Cannaot boot with DVD os 10.4.6

Question

Hi, i'v forget my password and try to reset it, Put DVD OS x, Hold C key but the DVD drive lights on few second and nothing appen. I format the drive with windows to wipe everthing, put back drive in Mac, try again with DVD: same thing appenned Plus a screen with few lines of text : Kernel and that and that...& that big box saying: You must reboot (in 6 language). I never seen the Utility windows while pressing C key with DVD & reset button. How can I re-install OS X ? My Keyboard is a Windows One. Mac G4, 512 meg, 30gig HD, DVD-RW, PC mouse wheel 2 buttons.

There are two basic versions of 10.4.6 & beyond: one for PPC Macs & one for Intel ones. AFAIK, there is as yet no retail version for the Intel Macs -- you must use the disks that come with them for installing that version of the OS on them.
Gray disk sets come with Macs, PPC or Intel. The retail version of 10.4.x (only for PPC Macs) is black. Typically, gray disk sets include bundled software extras, for instance iLife with most "non-pro" Macs like iMacs, Mac Mini's, etc. These extras are usually well protected against installation on other models; the OS itself may or may not be, depending on the model, OS version, year of release, & so on. If the gray disk allows installation of the OS, it usually will work for other models, as long as they are older ones, released well before the installer release. If the model requires extensions released after the disk's release, it will not work -- it may install OK but the Mac won't boot.
A special case is "drop in" installers, apparently called that because they were dropped into the boxes of some Macs shipped after a new major OS version was released, but before that OS version was installed on production line Macs. IOW, the Mac shipped with an older OS version installed but the (added) drop in installer allowed the user to upgrade to the newer major version for free. These are fairly rare, but seem to show up on eBay & the like with some regularity. They generally do not work with other models.
Important: From a legal standpoint, you are required to have a license for the OS version -- the actual disk is incidental to this requirement in legal terms. A black retail version of the OS always meets this requirement, as long as the previous owner is not still using the license to run the OS on another Mac, whether while in possession of the disk or not. In general, a gray disk set is licensed only for use with the Mac it came with, although at least one reseller sells some of these gray sets with new licenses (included with the purchase) from Apple. Most individuals reselling these disks are not so careful -- if possible, request the original license agreement & software coupons to make sure you are buying the complete product (disk + license to use it).
Note also that your license to use the major OS version that comes with your Mac is for that version only. IOW, if it came with 10.3.x, you have a license to use that version, from whatever source you install it, but not 10.4.x. Conversely, if your Mac came with any version of 10.4, you do hold a license to use it on a single Mac, even if you install it from some other disk.
