Cannnot exit firefox, maximize or minimize without clearing history. Also cannot adjust desired time on videos such as fast foward, rewind or maximize screen.

Firefox started acting weird like this two days ago. Like I said, videos are being made to be watched all the way from the start with no option to adjust desired time, as well as the top right X esc button on the firefox browser, maximize and minimize will not work as well until the history is cleared. I just reset firefox and it is still having the same complications. Also before, I was able to center click the mouse wheel to open new tabs and thus it is not working any more. All help is greatly appreciated.

• I still have a problem clearing history and i did select time range to Everything

I still have a problem clearing history and i did select time range to "Everything". I tested using Internet explorer and I could clear the history there so its not a problem with the Xp secondary account. I even disabled the add ons in firefox and still get the same issue

sorry, scratch this, the first post did enable me to find a solution, it was the signon.sqlite file that had become corrupted.
As an interesting aside, this has also fixed the problem with using Xmarksspace which was giving me an "error 3" synchronising problem.
Apologies for the tone of my previous posting, you did provide the information that enabled me to find a solution, thank you and sorry.

• How can i clear history. also how can i make Firefox my default browser

i had some answers from i think from one of your Forums, however i must not of had the steps clear. there are really had those clear

If you want to clear history go to Settings-->Tools-->Privacy-->Clear Data and now choose what you would like to remove.
And if you want to set firefox as your default browser try this article Make Firefox the default browser on Android

• Clear history also clears search history

I've finally "upgraded" (if you would call it that) to Safari 5. After figuring out how to disable "top sites", I was almost happy (other than several crashes per day). One REALLY irritating thing is that when I clear my browsing history, my search history is also cleared. Is there a way to clear these two histories independently? Often I want to clear my browsing history but like my search history there to remind me of stuff.

HI,
You can clear history Manually from Safari / Preferences - General but not independent of one another.
There might be a productivity Safari Extension available though...

• Website won't update changes without clearing history/cache?

I am in charge of a construction project website that I update weekly for a local community. I make the updates  and the files upload to the server correctly, but webpages' changes do not show up for me unless I clear my history, or put a "?" at the end of the url. This is fine for me to do this, but for visitors who bookmark my website and/or visit it frequently, I don't think it is realistic to have each visitor clear their history each week before visiting the website. What can I do so that they see the updates easily? Thank you for any suggestions.

If you want to prevent the files from being cached at all, you can add the following <meta> tags in the <head> of the page:
<meta http-equiv="Pragma" content="no-cache">
<meta http-equiv="Cache-control" content="no-cache">
<meta http-equiv="Expires" content="-1">
However, this won't necessarily affect the behaviour of proxy servers. Some ISPs use proxy servers to store web pages to speed up their delivery. If you're having to clear your cache each time, it could be a proxy server that's not being cleared on a regular basis.

• Clearing history one page at a time

HELP! Unlike Explorer, I can't find a way to remove just one site (page) from history at a time. It just has a clear option that wipes everything out. Does anyone know if it is possible to clear one page at a time?

Hi
Welcome to Apple Discussions
To clear one or more entries at a time, open your Bookmarks Manager (Apple/Option/B keys pressed at the same time). On the left side of the Manager, click on History in the collections column. On the right, individual entries appear. Highlight the one you want to delete, then press the "delete" key. If you want multiple non-consecutive entries cleared, click on the specific ones while holding down the Apple key. Again, press the "delete" key to remove. Consecutive entries - click on the first item, then holding down the shift key, click on the last item. Everything in-between is highlighted. Again..."delete".
In OS X Tiger, the Spotlight panel in the Bookmarks Manager is a great aid. You would simply type in the name and any matching entries appear in the list. There are other feature incentives for upgrading to Tiger, including Safari 2, or perhaps even Leopard after its October debut.
I see your tag says 10.3.5. The latest version of OS X Panther is 10.3.9, which would also give you a more recent version of Safari - 1.3.2. To do so, go to Software Update in System Preferences and see what's available. If you upgrade to .9, do not use the computer during the installation. Afterwards, go to your Applications>Utility folder, open Disk Utility and "repair permissions" on your HD via the First AiD panel.
Lastly, how much RAM or memory do you have in your iBook? To check, go to the Apple Menu>About this Mac.

• Firefox often freezes and will not close; also cannot open bookmarks

After operating normally for a few minutes firefox freezes and will not allow me to open legitimate pop-ups or access another website.
At the same time my bookmarks folder will not open.

Which security software (firewall) do you have?
Did you check the Firefox rules and make sure that is doesn't block Firefox?
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

• All CBS, Youtube & Xinmsn videos fail to play on Firefox 4.0 all day long. Once 12 am (Singapore Time), ALL videos start to play Perfectly. Even Headline News takes forever to download until midnight, such problem suddenly disappears. WHY?

My Fujitsu laptop is one-month old. Initially I use IE8 and had problem watching videos. Once, an Action Message appeared advising me my API Driver is not working and directed me to HP instead. Fujitsu advised me it's a malware and a scan of Malicious Software Removal Tool was executed, nothing was detected. Ive had Norton Internet Security on my laptop. I switched to Firefox 4.0. All videos - CBS, Youtube and Xinmsn videos fail to play during the day, between 1 pm till night (11 pm). The only time every of these videos start playing Perfectly is around Midnight 12 am. (Singapore Time). This happens every day and night. How is it that during the day and night, every site including Headline News takes forever to download (transferring data takes unusually long time) but around midnight, such problem instantly disappears (and I can download sites very fast)? Also, ALL videos malfunction all day long till night but miraculously return to perfect function around midnight. This is real weird. Can some kind soul help me with this please? "

i would suggest you backup and reformat the windows.
Previously i also encounter similar error you encountered found out is malware attack, some of the antivirus are not even able to detect them. There are alot of users posted online which you can google around.
i had tried remove the malware using those so-called malware removal but things gets worst. So finally i reformat the Windows and everything go back to normal.
Personal advice, don't click or install those unknown message prompted from website. No antivirus or malware protection software can prevent this if you are letting then to get in your system.
Cheers and hope i did help you in resolving your error.

• What happended to the prompt to clear history on exit?

I used to get a prompt to clear my history selections on exit. Now it seems I have to choose automatic clearing or doing it manually from the Tools menu.
Also, I would like to clear history over X days old. The save history for X days doesn't seem to do anything any more. Either I have history for months or all is cleared. I would really like my history to clear automatically for more than 2 days old. There isn't even a manual way to do it. I can clear recent history or all history, but not older history. This is pretty worthless.
Did I just dream that Firefox had a setting to clear history older than X days? I know that Internet Explorer has it.

Thank you so much for the quick reply. The good news is that I was not dreaming that Mozilla took something away. The better news was an add-on brings it back.
Now that you've shown me the add-on, I see there are many other posts on this topic. For some reason (bad search questions, I suppose), I couldn't find them before I posted my original question.

• Having trouble connect consistantly with websites, clear history then it works and an hour later, need to do the same thing (clear history to connect)

Just purchased new laptop with Windows 8, loaded firefox for browser as have always used in other computers. Am having trouble accessing websites, for example when I go to my gmail gmail.com, an error comes up that it can't access the website, check connections. But if I go and clear history, includidng the cache, then close Firefox and reopen and then try it works. Then I'll move onto other things and go back and it still works. Not sure what is the trigger, but when I try to go back to my gmail for example.(as it happens on other sites as well, my banking, my facebook, etc) I get that error again, I then have to again clear history,...then everything works!!! It's very frustrating as I have to clear history at least a dozen times per day! What is happening!

Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a Clean reinstall. This means you remove Firefox and any leftover program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps one by one:
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu) and confirm all upcoming messages.
#Now, uninstall Firefox by following the steps mentioned in the Uninstall Firefox article.
IMPORTANT: On Windows, the uninstaller has the option to remove your personal data and settings. Make sure that you do not check this option; otherwise all of your bookmarks, passwords, extensions, user customizations and other Firefox user profile data will be removed from your computer.
After uninstalling Firefox on Windows, delete the "Mozilla Firefox" program folder, located by default in one of these locations:
* (On 32-bit Windows) C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
* (On 64-bit Windows) C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#Go to the Windows Start menu and click on "Computer".
#In the Explorer window that opens, double click Local Disk (C:) to open the C:\ drive.
#Find the "Program Files (x86)" folder or "Program Files" folder.
#* On 32-bit Windows, double-click the Program Files folder to open it.
#* On 64-bit Windows, you will see a "Program Files (x86)" folder AND a "Program Files" folder. Open the Program Files (x86) folder.
#Look for a Mozilla Firefox folder. If you find one, right-click it and select Delete and confirm that you want to move the folder to the Recycle Bin.
Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
#Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
#Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
Please report back to see if this helped you!

Firefox opens up, it starts in a minimized state, with the small window, The file button with File, view, help, thos buttons in it, the File button is next to the back button, to maximize the page I have to go to full screen mode, then the address bar doesn't appear and none of the toolbars appear.

• Why aren't Flash cookies cleared the first time I exit Firefox?

I am running XP, Firefox 16.0.1 and Flash Player 11.4.402.287 and have Firefox configured to "Clear history when Firefox closes", with "Cookies" (amongst other options) checked in the "Settings for Clearing History". I also have Flash Player configured to "Block all sites from storing information on this computer."
As I understand things, starting with Firefox 4 and Flash Player 10.3, having Firefox configured this way should cause Flash cookies to be deleted upon exiting Firefox. I also understand that even though I have Flash configured as I do, a list of sites that attempt to plant a Flash cookie will still be recorded in the main settings.sol cookie.
I have noticed, though, that this list of empty Flash cookies is not deleted the first time I exit Firefox; rather, the list is deleted after launching and then exiting Firefox again.
Here's a step-by-step example:
1) Control Panel -> Flash Player -> Storage tab -> Local Storage Settings by Site... button -> confirm that the list is empty
2) Exit the Flash Player Settings Manage
3) Launch Firefox -> go to www.hulu.com and click on a video to start it playing
4) Relaunch Control Panel -> Flash Player -> Storage tab -> Local Storage Settings by Site... button -> confirm that the list shows www.hulu.com, 0 bytes, Block
5) Exit the Flash Player Settings Manager
6) Exit Firefox
7) Relaunch Control Panel -> Flash Player -> Storage tab -> Local Storage Settings by Site... button -> NOTE THAT THE LIST STILL SHOWS www.hulu.com, 0 bytes, Block
8) Exit the Flash Player Settings Manager
9) Relaunch Firefox
10) Relaunch Control Panel -> Flash Player -> Storage tab -> Local Storage Settings by Site... button -> NOTE THAT THE LIST STILL SHOWS www.hulu.com, 0 bytes, Block
11) Exit the Flash Player Settings Manager
12) Exit Firefox
13) Relaunch Control Panel -> Flash Player -> Storage tab -> Local Storage Settings by Site... button -> NOTE THAT THE LIST IS NOW EMPTY
So again my question is - why isn't this list emptied the first time around?

Ok, so I created a new profile and followed the steps I spelled out in my first post several times - each time the Hulu flash cookie was cleared the first time I closed Firefox.
So what would you recommend I do next to get to the bottom of the behavior in my current profile? Should I go about disabling my extensions and plugins one by one and repeating the test each time?
Thanks again so much for your time and help.
PS: I never have a problem with Hulu playing with my flash local storage set to zero - interesting that you do...

• Following the latest upgrade how to exit Firefox without shuting down

Computer type: Mac BookPro Mac OS X Version 10.6.8
I use both the Mac Safari & Firefox browsers for blogging. Since yesterday when I downloaded the Mozilla Firefox upgrade I am unable to exit Firefox at all (no button or tab to select an exit to return to desktop and Safire). To exit Firefox I must press the manual quit button to restart the computer. I need a Firefox exit link out to reenter the Safire browser and desktop without shutting down the computer.

You should see the Firefox menu bar on Mac as that is controlled by the Mac OS and have Firefox > Quit.

• Can I clear the history on exiting firefox?

I'd like to clear my browsing history when exiting Firefox, and I don't find any way to do this.
Is it possible?

That setting is on the Privacy tab in Options.
History - Firefox will: Use custom settings for history - that has to be selected to be able to see the custom settings.
