Cannon HD Video Camera's
Hi,
Has anyone used the Cannon Vixia HF S100 or HG20 HD video cameras? Are they compatible with with imovie 09 that I am using with my Imac? I shoot mostly digital stills, but would like to start getting into video as well.
Thanks for the help.
I have decided to go with the HFS100. I tried a test video at the computer store and imovie 09 worked perfect with this camera. The picture looked great on the 24" Imac that they had at at the store.
Thanks for the reply.

Trying to import mts files from my cannon hd video camera
trying to import mts files into my final cut pro trial version and it does not recognize this file type. any help would be appreciated. I am trying to decide whether to continue using adobe premier for editing or consider purchasing final cut pro
I am on a 13 inch mac book pro, my first apple product, just got it a week ago and trying to get used to it
Thanks , TomGot it now.Your hint about importing from the top level of the file system makes sense, and yes I was not importing correctly from the camera. I was triying to import manaully by searching for the sream file and selecting the mts files on there. when I tryed imporing from the inernal memory of the camera and not from the sd card it worked just fine. Thanks
If I am using files on the sd card can I import them in some way ? -
Can't capture from my cannon video camera to Final Cut or iMovie.
Hi. I can't capture from my cannon video camera to FInal Cut or iMovie. ANy help would be greatly appreciated. I don't think my iMac is recognizing the camera. I was told I don't need a firewire, that USB would work if I'm just capturing. If I need a firewire what kind (the one I was sold didn't fit). I'm getting an "unable to locate external device message". Not sure of next steps to try. Thanks.

You require a firewire cable.
The camera connection end will be four pin and the Mac is nine pin to the 800 port.
Ask for a 9 to 4 pin firewire cable. Sounds like you have the wrong one as they can also be 4 to 4 or 4 to 6 pin!!
Also you will need the correct Easy Setup in FCE so FCE talk to the camera, exactly which one depends on what type of footage is being sent to FCE from the camera during capture.

Cannon PowerShot USB Camera as Web Cam?
I’m pretty sure the answer is a big fat “no,” but I thought I might as well ask…
Is there any way to use a Cannon PowerShot camera (set to video and connected via USB) as a makeshift web cam? I’ve been able to use my firewire video camera, but the PowerShot would be great if I could make it work because it can easily be mounted on top of my Cinema Display.PowerShot cameras don't provide a live web feed, so no, not without a lot of workaround. There have been workarounds posted for Windows systems and it might be possible to do the same on a Mac, but with USB webcams so cheap, it's probably not worth the headache.
BTW, the company's name is spelled "Canon", one "n". It'll make a difference if you do a web search for their products.

Re: Satellite L - How to connect my digital video cam?
I have a Canon digital video camera (bought in 2004). I have been using it to transfer movies onto my other Toshiba laptop, but there is no place to plug in on my new laptop. I did use a iEEE1394 but it doesn't work on this one.
What alternative is there?
Also on turning on the laptop I get a message saying TOSHIBA SERVICE STATION NOT WORKING and proceeds to solve it but nothing happens.
Any suggestions pls.Hey,
What notebook model you have it exactly? Some notebooks dont have firewire port but if your camera has USB port can use this port. As far as I know all notebooks have USB port
> Also on turning on the laptop I get a message saying TOSHIBA SERVICE STATION NOT WORKING and proceeds to solve it but nothing happens.
You should try to reinstall Service Station, I think this should work. Just download the newest version of Toshiba service station on official Toshiba website and install it:

But dont forget to remove the old version first before you install the newest one. ;) -
I am trying to open CR2 files from a Cannon EOS 1DX camera in Photoshop CS6 and I have already updated the Camera Raw Plug in but Photoshop is still giving me the cannot open files dialog box? Help?
Canon 1DX support was added to ACR in version 6.7, 7.1. An updated CS6 should be at level ACR 8.6. If your ACR is not at level 8.6 try using CS6 menu Help>Updates. If that does not install ACR 8.6 try downloading the ACR and DNG 8.6 converter and see if ACR 8.6 will install into your CS6.

I just upgraded to Mavericks (up from Mountain Lion) last week. Today, I tried to upload movies to my MacBook Pro, and it no longer 'sees' the camera when plugged into the USB port. I have tired iMovie, iPhoto, and also direct access, via the hard drive. Nothing works. I have even restarted the computer with the camera plugged in and it is still not being recognized, and I cannot get the movies 'out' of the camera. I have never had a problem before , In fact I loaded movies last week, just by pluggin it into the USB.
Are there ANY suggestions on how or what to do for it to start to pick up on the fact that my video camera is indeed plugged in and has movies that can be imported?
Thanks!

I have just uploaded a large number of files from a panasonic video camera on to imovie. I have never had this problem in the past, but when I try to play back the files on my laptop there is no sound. I have tried increasing the sound and normalising via the audio settings, and the sound is playing fine on the video camera. Is there anything I can do?
I have also checked that the files are MOV not MPEG etc

FCE: Possible to Capture SD footage from digital video cam?
Ok, probably a daft question this. Don't laugh...
I'm thinking of purchasing a digital video camera that uses SD cards. I currently use a MiniDV cam and connect via Firewire.
Is it possible to capture footage shot on SD cards into FCE?
And, if so, should I use USB from the camera, or insert the SD card into my card-reader?
The camera I'm looking at is able to record HD footage to a 2gb SD card (about 40 mins worth)
Thanks for your time!Cheers Tom, I think you just saved me a small fortune..
Here's the camera: http://reviews.cnet.co.uk/camcorders/0,39029967,49263047,00.htm

In case the link get removed by a moderator, the model is the Sanyo VPC-HD1 -
How can I connect my Powerbook or iPad Retina via HDMI cable to 4K digital video camera to be a "control monitor"
That won't work with the iPad, unless maybe there's a "control monitor" app somewhere.

which cable do I need to connect my Mac Book Pro to my Panasonic PV-GS150 video camera for transferring video to iMovie?
I totally understand.
Check some things from here, I have 2 and they have been great so far.
Check here, lots of storage and reasonable prices. Also great support, you get to speak to a person
Clean off your on the G5 drive and off you go.
I suggest buying a second drive and setting it up for a back up, Time Machine or Carbon Copy Cloner, or SuperDuper (both "bootable" back up) All searchable on the web.
http://eshop.macsales.com/search/elite+pro
You can talk to a person for REAL advice, Phone: 800.275.4576 Ask about exporting to your G5 and and exporting to your existing OSX, you may only need a small inexpensive drive for this.
Quick delivery and willing to help.
Hope this makes you back up and running :-)
Do get a back up drive, as it is not ""whether my drive will fail, as much as "when my drive fails"

I have Video camera movies that are HD format.. I am doing editing work on them using Final Cut Pro, but using DV PAL format for the projects I am editing. When I then tried to copy my work done in FCP Project that's originally DV PAL , into a new FCP Project that is HD, and tried reconnect media with original HD movies (video), the sequence project got distorted for all the text, shapes used and all.. everything changed its orientation and scale.. Is there a way by which I can preserve my work done on DV PAL and switch it preserving its proportions, scale and orientation, but on a HD project sequence?? Appreciate your help and advice..
Yes. A couple of ways that might work.
First Way
What you need to do is load one of your hd clips in the viewer and edit into a new HD sequence. Does it display correctionly?
OK, select the clip in the hd timeline and copy (command-c). Now go to the HD sequence with the material that's distorted. Select all (command-a) and paste attributes (option-v) and choose basic motion and distort. That should maek things work. What won't work is anything that you've adjusted as far as basic motion or distort in your PAL sequence. That I'm pretty sure you'll have to redo.
Second Way.
Choose your original PAL sequence and do a Media Manage changing the sequence preset to the appropriate HD paramenters with the media offline. You then should be able to reconnect these clips with your original HD media. -
Would Like To Buy A Bluetooth Digital Camera or Video Camera
I'm having a very hard time finding any type of camera that uses Bluetooth. Are there any? I basically just want to take good pictures and transfer them to my computer wirelessly. Would a Palm device be good for this? Help. Please...
I'm now starting to look at Palm device for the very first time. Can somebody please post a list of all Palm devices that have a built-in camera? From a quick search, it doesn't seem like there are many. Is there some master list of ALL Bluetooth devices (digital cameras, video cameras, Palm devices)?sachikolex wrote:

Then you need/want a MacBook Pro with as much CPU & GPU as you can afford. The only models with a dedicated GPU are the 15" & 17". Also consider the antiglare screen, again only available with the 15" & 17" models. Both the MBA & 13" MBP would be poor choices for your intended use. -
Video camera - Need to shoot in Black and White
We need to shoot video in black and white, We have tried to shoot in night mode. But the result is the colors being brighter and not lighter. We need to do video coding with these so the colors being too bright is not working out. any imput on a video camera that will shoot in black and white and has an SD card slot?
I have internal memory on some of my cameras and I NEVER use it. It's faster and cheaper to use a USB reader. Why run down your batteries and go looking for a cable.
What can you do with $100 savings? Click on this link...
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/PNY+-+32GB+Secure+Digital+High+Capacity+(SDHC)+Class+10+Memory+Card/2300...
You might even find cheaper SD memory elsewhere. My local computer dealer is selling 16gb for under $10!
With the $100 savings you can spend it on a second battery. Then again, consider spending it on an extended battery so you can record more than 30 minutes. Unless you plan to use the camera connected to the wall at all times. -
My macbook pro is failing to read a new sd card with movies recorded on it. Any ideas please? A previously used SD card has downloaded without problems. I have tried using a card reader as well as downloading from the video camera itself, neither works.
I can view the latest recordings on the video camera so know they are there somewhere. I am now thinking I should have formatted or initialised the new card before using it but didn't think of that at the time. Obviously don't want to do this now as it will wipe the movies.Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
