Cannon Scanner Sharing

Can you share a Cannon flat bed scanner that is connected to my Imac 24 with another machine which is a Macbook Pro? Both machines are on a network and files can be shared. Just wondering if the scanner can be.
New to apple any info is appreciated.

I have to say that we never had a problem with it.
I've been scanning via USB and Firewire 400 to the host Mac Pro from a G5 running Snow Leopard (I think) and Intel iMac running 10.8 over ethernet. I think it even works over wireless to Intel laptop running Lion.
The most annoying thing is it means I've got to keep yet another dual boot System unless the old G5 has scanner sharing, in which case it can bear the load of the scannner. I was hoping to clear out my old Macs but it seems I've got to keep them all running – back to G3 iBook for its serial modem – for the facilities they have that have been dropped from newer versions of OSX and Macs.

  • Where is the "scanner sharing" option in OS X Mavericks?

I updated my MacBook Pro and my iMac to Mavericks and now I see that the scanner sharing option in System Preferences is disapperad..
    Can someone help me?
    Thanks in advance.

System Preferences > Printers & Scanners >  Scan
Are you aware you can use Image Capture located in HD > Applications to scan with?
Connect the scanner to your Mac whether Wi-Fi or USB.
    Launch Image Capture.
Click the very small black box bottom left side of the Image Capture window.
You'll see this pop up menu:   Connecting this (device) opens:
You can select a default app to scan (Image Capture) and select a folder from the Imort To pop up menu on the right to save scanned files to.

  • Scanner sharing not possible

I have two scanners (Canon Canoscan 3200 F, Lexmark X1190) connected to a PowerMac G4 (Mac OS X 10.4.11) via Firewire (the Canon) and USB (the Lexmark). In Image Capture I set up to share both the scanners. They appear on my MacBook Pro which is connected to my local network. But Image Capture tells me that they are not connected although both devices uses TWAIN drivers which are installed on my MacBook Pro, too. How can I scan over the network? All sources on the internet claim setting up the scanner sharing feature is very easy. It is - but it doesn't work.

Oh right, that possibility. Digital Cameras which mount as a disk image when you tether them to the Mac can be shared. Not all Digital Cameras offer that ability. I forget which ones offered that capability, though I wouldn't be surprised if this list includes some of them, since it mentions use of Image Capture with Digital Cameras:

  • Scanner sharing in System Preferences doesn't work

I have an Epson AcuLaser CX11NF networked by ethernet with a couple of other devices and my Mac Pro, and a wireless LAN connected to BT Infinity for broadband access. The various MacBooks and remote desktop Macs rely on the wireless network for access to the Epson. Print access through printer sharing works fine, but I can't establish scanner sharing. In System Preferences > Sharing, Scanner Sharing is ticked, but no scanner appears in the window (I was expecting something analogous to the Printer Sharing pair, Printers: and Users:, but there is just one window). In System Preferences > Print & Fax, with the Epson and the Scan tab selected, if I tick the box for "Share this scanner on the network", it doesn't stay ticked. If I navigate to another preference pane and return, it is unticked.
Further evidence that something is failing to work properly comes from System Preferences > Security > Firewall > Advanced..., where File Sharing (AFP), Printer Sharing, and Web Sharing all show "Allow incoming connections" as they should, but Scanner Sharing doesn't appear.
NB: 10.6.8 on all OS X machines in question. We've got Lion on a MacBook Air, but we're not even trying this with the Epson yet.
    What's going wrong?

No, it's located in a different room from the router; neither can be changed. It's not plugged directly into a Mac, but into an ethernet switch into which the Mac is also plugged.
Surely if I could plug it into the router, that would make it directly accessible to all devices on the wireless network. That's not the issue. Because I can't do that, I want to make it available through Scanner Sharing. This is what isn't working, although Printer Sharing of the same device in the same configuration is working.

  • Epson RX 620 - Drivers removed - ghost in Scanner sharing

I'am trying to get rid of Scanner Sharing with My Epson RX620.
I have deleted all the driver files for Epson, but the entry is still there?
In printed sharing the entry is gone..
This causes the symptom that I can't enable (it won't stay) my new HP-All_in-ONE scanner sharing option.
    Can you please help?

Thanks for your answer John but I have tried also that. If I reset the printing system printer disappears on the list. Then when I add HP Photosmart premium driver back to the list and try to share scnner it just does not "stay on" and the Scanner sharing still shows Epson Stylus Photo RX620 even there is no driver for that printer anymore?? I can't get rid of that Epson entry and I have tried to grep -lr different kind of things in /System/Library -files also.
Pictures to help you see what is the problem.

Epson printer on scsnner sharing and even there is no driver for that:

When I go back to print&fax scanner sharing is off on HP printer??

  • Scanner Sharing through Image Capture, 10.6.4

Just got a new G5 with 10.6.4, upgrading from a non-intel G5 running 10.5.8. Under 10.5.8 I could share our Art Department's Epson Perfection V600 Photo scanner with other Macs in our network simply by selecting the Sharing feature in Image Capture's preferences. Quite simple, and it worked. Now that feature isn't available under 10.6.4. Is there any other way to share this scanner? I'm a little annoyed that this feature is not readily available. Did Apple think this was an unnecessary feature?

I'm probably wrong but I think you're looking for the Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Sharing -> Scanner Sharing.
Don't have a 10.5 machine with me so I can't take a look if it's the same settings you're looking for or not but hopefully it is.

  • Scanner Sharing missing?

I apologise if this has been posted about already, but I havent found anything on the forums or the internet. Has anyone else noticed that scanner sharing has disappeared in Mavericks? I'd gotten use to using my shared usb document feeding scanner over the network. It's not a huge issue for me because I have a HP all-in-one with a scan bed I can use. Just an annoyance I want to make people aware of, unless of course scanner sharing is supposed to still be there and it's just missing on mine for some strange reason.

I have to say that we never had a problem with it.

  • Scanner sharing with ADF

    Hello all,
I'm currently trying to share a Canon MX330 series over the network. The scanner sharing works perfectly, except (and that's when it's needed the most) when we decide to use the Automatic Document Feeder... Only the last page gets saved be the remote computer with the Image tranfering tool included in Snow Leopard.
Any idea of how to make this work?
    Thanks in advance

surfmb70: Are you sure you were able to scan wirelessly from even one computer i.e. Macboo Pro? "On my Macbook Pro, I can print and scan wirelessly. Under my print & fax settings in system preferences there are TWO tabs at the top of the window, "
I don't have two tabs if the printer/scanner is connected through the Time Capsule. Only if it is directly connected to my Macbook I get those tabs.
Every discussion-room is stating that scanning wirelessly is not supported (unless a wireless scanner is used).
    Please confirm.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Scanners I no longer own still in scanner sharing list

I have had two different Samsung SCX-4300 multi function devices connected to my iMac. Both have been returned as they were faulty. They are no longer shown in the 'Print and Fax' section of 'System Properties'. However, they are both still shown with tick boxes next to them in the 'Scanner Sharing' list in the 'Sharing' section of 'System Properties'. I can't find any way of deleting them. I don't think it's causing a problem, but I like things to be tidy!

    Thanks!
Sorry to see these changes though.
The browser was great before the recent "fixes."

  • Remove a scanner from scanner sharing pane

I had a Canon MP620 printer/scanner, and have since gotten rid of it. I've removed the printer fine, but it still shows itself in the scanner sharing pane of preferences. Any idea how to remove this? I've already removed all the plist files related to this printer.

    NingK wrote:

I've installed a number of scanner and AIO's over time and a large number of these which have long been removed from the Mac are still listed in the Shared Scanner pane. I had a look through the Library and System folders and could not find a plist or other file that referenced these devices.
So at this stage I would say that there is not a simple way to remove any listed scanner. A reset of the printing system does not help nor does removing all the scanner driver files from Library > Image Capture > TWAIN Data Sources and Library > Image Capture > Devices.
Will keep looking. This is an interesting one...

  • Anyone success with Scanner Sharing?

    Hello,
I have a MacPro with an Epson Perfection 3200 scanner attached via Firewire. In the Sharing Preferences, I activated the sharing for this scanner. On my MacBook Pro, I opened Image Capture, but the scanner doesn't show up as a shared device and I have no idea what could be wrong. Is there anyone who has Scanner Sharing working with success?
Both machines running 10.6, and there are no network problems as both machines can see each other in the Finder, via SSH and other means.
    Greetz,
    Ringo

I was able to get a shared scanner to show but only when I was logged into the computer with the scanner physically attached to it. Without being logged in, the scanner didn't show up as a shared scanner in Image Capture

  • Scanner Sharing Only Working With a User Logged Into Host Computer

I have been able to get my Brother MFC7020 to work perfectly with the network. I have gotten the scanning to work over the sharing system as well but with a weird glitch. I must have a user logged into the host computer in order for the shared scanner to appear in Image Capture. If I log out of the host computer, the scanner disappears. I have double checked my settings, I have locked the preference pane, and I still have this issue. For some reason when the host computer is idle at the login window I cannot access the shared scanner. Printing usually works however.
I am running Snow Leopard 10.6.4 on all machines in the network and the host is a mini.

Probably because the process is set up as a launch agent instead of a launch daemon. Agents launch when somebody logs in. Daemons can run when the system starts up or when someone logs in. You could try moving the plist (which is probably in /Library/LaunchAgents) to the /Library/LaunchDaemons folder and see what happens. But, if it is not designed to run in that environment, it won't work right.
The plist should have a name like com.brother.something.plist. You will need to restart to get it to register correctly.
