Cannot access BIOS on a GT60 GT60 2PE Dominator 3K Edition.

Hello, I need to replace the hard drive in my GT60 2PE Dominator 3K Edition. I have searched online and the key to enter the BIOS is "DEL" but it will not go into the bios. Of course when i try to boot from a windows disk secure boot stops that from happening.
Any ideas how i can enter the BIOS
Thanks Guys.

Check your current BIOS version, and update to the latest version E16F4IMS. x17 (x can be 1, 3, 5 or 7) if yours isn't.
If so, then you need the BIOS update tool in windows, contact with the MSI and ask for it.
How to check BIOS version in Windows?
1. Run the command prompt. (Type "cmd" in search column and choose command prompt)
2. Type "dxdiag" and press enter.
3. In System Information page you will see the BIOS version.

  • Buying MSI GT60 2PE Dominator 3K Edition

    Hey MSI forum
I'm looking to buy a new laptop. I live in Denmark where the taxes is very high, but are going to Taiwan as exchange student and therefore considering to buy it there, but what is the price in Taiwan?
I have to configuration options in Denmark:
    3,000$
    MSI GT60 2PE 480NE Dominator Pro - 3K IPS Edition - 15.6" - Core i7 4800MQ - Windows 8.1 - 16 GB RAM - 1 TB HDD + 128 GB SSD
    or
    2,500$
    MSI GT60 2PC 485NE Dominator - 3K IPS Edition - 15.6" - Core i7 4800MQ - Windows 8.1 - 8 GB RAM - 1 TB HDD
I hope that someone can find something comparable and maybe where to buy in Taiwan.
    Thanks in Advance
    Nikolai

The only thing I would make mention of is the warranty. I'm not sure how that is handled or transferred. Just something to keep in mind, as it might end up being more costly that way.

Look at the surface of the design, Dragon logo with light from darkness on the cover, and the metallic material on top cover and palm rest side, which makes the GT60 Dominator Pro looks high quality and gaming style.
Take a look on the cover side, the Dragon Gaming Logo is really fancy and stylish with backlit. Brushed metal design makes the cover looks high quality and solid.
Sound by Dynaudio speaker system, the best famous mobile sound system on this top level GT60 Dominator Pro gaming notebook is really amazing, great on sound detail and real good acoustic of human vocal and great sound stage presents!
We put all the accessories together and boot up to check further detail on GT60 Dominator Pro 3K IPS version! The display quality is vivid.
Let’s take a look on the detail spec., 384GB SSD Super RAID, Intel Core i7 4800MQ @ 2.7GHz, top level GTX880M 8GB GDDR5 graphics, 32GB RAM. It’s all top level and could use for 3 more years of ultra-quality games!
When first time to use MSI gaming notebooks, you will feel amazing about the SteelSeries keyboard is really good typing feeling and solid based. It comes with multi-color backlit and move the windows key to right side, that really professional design as a gaming notebook keyboard, and the only one with real gaming design.
Take a look in the SteelSeries Engine, the exclusive gaming software only for MSI gaming notebooks. This macro keys software built in Keypress macro, Text macro, 1 key launch program and Disable key function, besides F1~F12, all other keys could be used for macros setup, and 4 layers of keyboards o setup 4 sets of macros with 4 sets of different backlit combinations, so this is really a great software for smarter and stylish gaming experience.
With CPU-Z tool to check, the upgraded Intel Core i7 4800MQ @ 2.7GHz, TDP 47W, 4 Cores 8 Threads is really great performance, CPU Boost could up to 3.5~3.7GHz.
Because of Core i7 4800MQ and GTX880M, the 3D benchmarks comes with breakthrough scores than ever on the notebook platform, 3D Mark Fire Strike: P5351 pts.
The GT60 Dominator Pro on 3D Mark 11 gains P8461 pts, it’s whole new level of the gaming notebooks, and It’s over 15% faster than GTX780M!
The 3D Mark Vantage boost up to P33115 scores, it’s 14% faster than GTX780M!
Then we check on other software of DirectX11 3D performance, the Heaven Benchmark is world’s 1st software tool to test DirectX11 effects, this time we use Heaven Benchmark version 3.0 to test.
Set the Tessellation on normal to enable DirectX11 effects and run Benchmark, the Full HD resolution could get 78.2 FPS(Frames Per Second) high score result.
Since this GT60 is 3K IPS panel edition, of course we have to try 3K resolution, you could see that the result block is smaller at 2880x1620 resolution, the result is 42.7 FPS with same setup, so we could say that 3K resolution will reduce over 45% of the FPS rate in this test, but GTX880M is too powerful, so still over 40FPS, and most games we need to get over 30 FPS to play and feel smoother, at least 20 FPS to play a game, if lower than 20 FPS, that will makes people feel lag obviously and feel dizzy easily.
Since we tried some benchmark, of course we have to try at least a famous game to the real world experience. Battlefield 4, the biggest FPS game title since end of 2013, is one of the heaviest loading games on PC platform.
First we made Battlefield 4 detail at 1920x1080 with Ultra Graphics Quality setup.
The gaming frames is 46 FPS, really smooth and around 20% faster than GTX780M.
Once we tune up the resolution to 2880x1620, the FPS drops a lot because the Ultra mode also set 4xMSAA (Anti-Aliasing), that will impact the performance a lot in higher resolution, also make graphics memory demand around 3GB~4GB, seems the 8GB GDDR5 with GTX880M is prepared for upcoming games with such as 3K or even higher resolutions!
We could see it’s about 24~28 FPS under 3K resolution with Ultra Graphics Quality, most time it will reduce over 40% FPS rate of the gaming performance.
Seems to set the Battlefield 4 with “High” graphics quality on 2880x1620 resolution is more suitable to play the game smoother in every theme.
It’s about 42 FPS, close to the 1920x1080 Ultra graphics quality. So if we want to play heavy loading games at 2880x1620 resolution, set to High graphics quality setup is a good option for 3K gaming!
After these 3D and gaming tests, let’s take a look on the temperature of the cooling system. The room temperature is 25 degree C, the temperature of fan out part is 71.2 degree C, it’s not a surprise because of GTX880M and Core i7 4800MQ, even it’s a bit lower than most gaming notebooks with this 2 combinations. The palm rest and keyboard side is 30.6 degree C, it’s really cool for users to hands on.
After the fabulous experience of great 3D performance, let’s take a look on the benefits of “Super RAID 2”, normal 2.5” HDD is about 80~100MB/s, single SSD is about 400~550MB/s, BUT, GT60 Dominator Pro boost over 1536MB/s and average is 1477MB/s, that’s 15x faster than single HDD, almost 3x faster than single SSD.
If we check on the AS SSD Benchmark tests, you could see more detail of the storage access performance is amazing, the Sequential read is 1116.76MB/s, write is 786.79MB/s. 4K-64Thrd read is 665.09MB/s, write is 461.18MB/s, it’s ultra fast!
The GT60 Dominator Pro 3K IPS edition comes with Killer Doubleshot LAN and WiFi, it provides faster response time of gaming experience, when you at different LAN/WiFi environment, Killer software will ask you to make an internet speed test, this will fine tune your LAN/WiFi for smoother and faster online experience.
MSI also got a new software tool called “Dragon Gaming Center”, this tool is also good for hardware monitor and utility launch tool. Also could show the status of Hybrid Power enable or disable.
The ultimate weapon for enthusiast gamers:
The GT60 2PE Dominator Pro 3K IPS version is extremely powerful, it comes with most of the features that a great gaming notebook could have, 3K IPS panel is really great effect of vision quality, SteelSeries keyboard with SSE is amazing for gamers to play their games smarter, Sound By Dybaudio present really good detail sound quality, Killer Doubleshot is faster for online gaming, of course the GTX880M is awesome for gamer to play Full HD even 3K resolution games, the backlit of Dragon logo and keyboard is really beautiful.
    Conclusion:
The overall score I will give this GT60 2PE Dominator Pro 3K IPS edition with Super Pack is 95 out of 100, this is really great machine for any hard core gaming or power user usage, I would recommend any one to must-have this notebook if it’s affordable for you!!

Ok either you work for MSI or you changed the settings in 3dmark11. I only scored around 5K with my GT60 2PE 3k. Any idea why I'm scoring 3k below you? Laptop was plugged in btw. Also how can you enter bios settings with this laptop? I suspect that maybe the hybrid gpu thing is affecting my score, and the Pc is probably not fully utilizing the GTX 880M, maybe in bios I can disable the integrated CPU's video card??? Please let me know. Thanks.

  • HP Pavilion DV6-3029tx Cannot Access BIOS Setup

Hello there, I have used this laptop for nearly two years, if I remember correctly.
Basically, the problem is that I want to disable Function key, but I cannot access BIOS setup.
I have tried every combination of keys at start-up screen, from ESC to F10, none of them worked.
So I thought maybe an BIOS update can solve the problem (My current version is F.07), I downloaded firmware from HP support site and run it, know what, the screen flashed and system get restarted, but nothing had changed, I didn't get even an error message.
The problem is actually found by a HP supporter when I send my laptop for cleaning last year, he didn't manage to fix it at the time and problem became devastating for me lately because certain software I am using rely heavily on function keys. The only things "big" I have ever done to my laptop were updating windows 7 Home to Ultimate (32-bit) and partition, I am not sure if they were the reason.
The following is InsydeFlash log, I searched the error code and find somebody with similar problem here: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-Systems-and/Pavillion-DV6-3125er-BIOS-UPDATE-Error/t...

In ASIA market, GT60 is really popular, especially the one with GTX880M and 3K panel.
I think right now onlt GTX880M could play most game smoothly at 2880x1620 resolution,
so if other brand come out GTX860M/GTX850M with 3K/4K panel, it's not able to play!!

  • Asphire one D255-KK116 cannot access bios

Good Day Guys. Hope you can help me with my problem. I brought a asphire one D255-KK116 online without a hard drive. So I brought a hard drive of 500GB,AF 4K sector and install the drive. But when I started to boot the laptop to install the OS, it won't boot in even in BIOS it cannot access or enter into it only shows a blinking cursor ( _ ) and the display only backlight is lighted. Hope you can help me with this.

OK, I disconnected all pci cards and ide drives....I only took the ide cables out at the drive ends and not the mobo ends. Disconnected the USB and Firewire cables. Then retried the CMOS suggestion cos I wasn't sure that I had turned on the pc when jumper set to 2 & 3. The problem still occurs. When you say turn on the pc with the jumper set to 2 & 3 what I did was I took the power lead out at the back then changed the jumper setting. Then I put the power lead back in and the pc wouldn't switch on. I then took the power lead back out, replaced the jumper to 1 & 2, replaced power lead and turned back on. Still the same problem.
Could it be the battery at all? That's the only thing I can think of now other than a fried mobo. If it is the battery what is the proper routine with this so I don't bugger up the mobo yet further?

  • Lenovo U310 cannot access bios or boot menu

OK so I'm not dumb, and consider myself pretty tech-savvy.
I've got Windows 8.1 I've installed myself on the SSD.
I've tried using novo key, f2, f12, b, also windows reboot-to-bios feature, nothing works.
When using novo key, and selecting setup or boot menu, it just boots to win 8.1 anyway.
Now, I can't reflash the bios, because I'm on the newest version, and the flasher throws error 182 (bios already equal or higher version).
What do I do now to reflash the BIOS, and thus allow me to access the setup/boot menu?

Other folks have had similar problems with the U310 and SSD  Here is the link to that discussion in case you had missed it.....

  • Tecra A11-1EG - cannot access BIOS after setting supervisor password

Hello, I wonder if anyone can help ?
We have just started to put a supervisor password onto our Tecra A11 laptops so our pupils cannot set passwords on the hard drive etc.
To get into the BIOS and set a BIOS password, we press F2 as the machine starts.
We then go into the security option, then supervisor password.
Having entered the password we want to use twice, we press F10 to save etc.
The machine starts ok and goes in to windows without a hitch.
The problem we have now is that we cannot get back into the bios at all.
As the machine starts we press the F2 key as before but unlike previously the screen just remains blank and the 'Toshiba leading Innovation >>>' screen no longer appears.
If we keep our finger on the F" key or keep pressing it the laptop just restarts without ever getting to the BIOS screen where I assume we will get asked for the supervisor password we set earlier?
Is there another key we should be pressing as the laptop starts ?
I should add we have added a supervisor password for the BIOS security screen on three of our laptops and all three have the same issue.
    Thanks
    Steve

I think this should be useful for you:
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB0B032D0000R01.htm
In some cases you need to press the "INS" key while Toshiba logo appears.
Then a prompt for the Supervisor Password would appear and if the password is certified then the BIOS could be entered by pressing the "F2" key.

  • U300s: Cannot access BIOS to change boot order

I was dual booting Windows 8.1 Update and Ubnutu 14.04
From the windows disk manager I deleted all Ubuntu partitions and rebooted my notebook. I was immediatlly present with the grub rescue promt. Normally this is a quick and easy fix, by booting a windows USB/CD and repairing the windows MBR.
My problem is I can't access the bios or the boot menu to change the boot order. Nothing I've tried has let me get into the bios to set my USB stick as the first boot option.
Using the small recovery key button on the side of the notebook which normally boots the notebook to the screen where you can choose which drive to boot does the same as the power button. There is no bios flash screen or abililty to press any keys before getting to the grub screen.
I've drained the battery and left over night hoping this would reset the state it seems to be stuck in but that also did nothing.
Here is a short video showing what happens when I boot the notebook http://youtu.be/2FpC2Deuawk

I think the problem is in deleting Ubuntu. According to this video after the deletion of the Ubuntu partitions they must be combined back to the Windows partition.

  • E531 Will Not Boot - Cannot Access BIOS.

Hi everyone, I'm running out of ideas here and I'm really hoping that someone out there can help me. I have a ThinkPad E531 which I cannot get to boot into Windows, or even into the BIOS. The screen just goes blank (but it's still on) and then hangs right there. I've tried various fixes already - draining the power by removing the battery and power cable, and then pressing and holding the power button all kinds of different lengths of time.
I've also tried re-seating everything I possible could to no avail (RAM, HDD, CMOS Battery, Processor, Optical Drive, Fans). As well I've also tried getting into the BIOS by booting with the HDD and optical drives disconnected. Tried swapping memory to a different DIMM slot.
What boggles my mind here is that there seems to be a consistent limit to what I can and cannot do:
If I try a "Normal" startup...
When it first starts, the Lenovo splash screen loads fine.
Once the splash screen goes away, it just hangs on the blank screen.
If I tap [Enter] on startup...
The Lenovo splash screen loads fine
When the splash screen goes away, the "Startup Interrupt Menu" appears
I can even hit [Enter] to Pause the default "Resume normal startup"
    From the "Startup Interrupt Menu",
If I hit [Esc] (Resume normal startup), I get a white cursor in the upper-left corner of the screen which flashes twice, then freezes and the system hangs.
If I hit [F1] (Enter BIOS Setup Utility), the white cursor in the upper-left corner flashes for about a millisecond, then disappears, and the system hangs.
If I hit [F10] (Diagnose Hardware), it hangs instantly with the cursor in the upper-left corner.
If I hit [F12] (Choose Temporary Startup Device), it brings me to the Boot Menu/Application Menu.
    From the Boot Menu,
If I select either the HDD or the ODD with a bootable disc, the screen just goes blank and hangs.
If I hit [Tab], I can switch the the "Application Menu".
    From the Application Menu,
If I choose the first option (Setup), the screen goes blank and the system hangs.
If I choose the second option (Diagnostic Splash Screen), the diagnostic splash screen actually loads:

  • GS70 cannot access bios, black screen

    Hello,
I have bricked my bios (I have the black screen with the flashing white line). My computer seems to work fine no problem otherwise. I only realized it wasn't working when trying to install Ubuntu.
I have read a plethora of information on the forums and online unfortunately nothing seems to be of much help.
All of MSI's guides seem to assume that you would be able to access the BIOS to flash the file, so I can't find the proper steps to take. Furthermore, the guides show that there are always 4 files or so in these zip files, however mine only comes with a bios file and a text file directing me to the guide.
Would anyone here be able to help me? These FLASHWIN64 bat files seem to be nonexistent, and seem to be what could help me fix my problem. I am in windows 8.1, GS70 2OD-001 machine.
Another funny thing is when I go to the support site for my specific model, MSI only shows the bios for windows 7, even though my machine was bought with windows 8. But if you type in google GS70 Stealth, it pops open with all the drivers etc and lists the correct speccs for my machine.
Thank you very much for your time.

Which model of GS70 do you have?
If you can enter the OS, then an BIOS update may be possible to fix the issue.

  • MSI GE60 cannot access BIOS (black screen + white underscore)

So I've tried accessing the BIOS using the DEL key but when I do it the only thing that shows up is a black screen with a white unblinking underscore. Why is this? My BIOS version is : E16GCIMS.517

You can check with the nearby local retailer first and see if they have the model you like.

  • Cannot Access BIOS or Boot Windows 8 After Changing UEFI BIOS to Legacy BIOS

    Acer V7-751, 500G HD, Windows 8.
I changed the BIOS settings from UEFI to Legacy BIOS when I was working on a problem. Now I can't even get into the BIOS (F2)
or change the Boot Order (F12). All I get is an error "Operating System not found". I can boot with a Win7, Win8, or Win8,1 DVD. I suppose I could boot with just about anything else bootable as well.
The problem seems to be caused because it's set to Legacy BIOS and Secure Boot Manager as default #1 boot device. Legacy BIOS
can't boot a Win8 drive that has been installed under UEFI (Secure Boot). I have to change the BIOS back to EUFI to boot the WIn8 drive, but the only way to change the BIOS is from within Win8. It's a very flawed way of doing things but it's the way it is.
Does anyone have any suggestions that they KNOW work. Please don't Google answers. I've already done that. And please (please)
don't tell me to power on and press "F2" (or any other key) to go into BIOS. If I could do that I wouldn't be posting.
Once again, I cannot get into the BIOS without going into Windows first. I cannot load Windows because the install was done
under UEFI. I cannot change from Legacy to UEFI because I can't get into the BIOS.

In this case, I flashed the BIOS with a newer version of the BIOS/Firmware and that returned everything to the Defaults (not Legacy BIOS). I believe you could also flash with the same version. I don't think you could flash with an earlier version, but no harm
in trying it. if you've flashed the BIOS previously, you may be able to restore the previous copy. It all depends on the manufacturer and how they handle flashing the BIOS.
I wasn't able to, but you may also be able to boot from a correctly formatted USB drive with another OS (Windows XP/Vista/7) because Legacy BIOS allows you to boot from external devices. Essentially, you need to be able to boot from a valid OS that is not on
the Hard Drive that was configured using the UEFI BIOS setting.
Please let me know if you have any more questions, and I'll do what I can to help. If this solves your problem, please mark my post as the answer. Thank you.
