Cannot access correct iPhoto library during iPhone sync

Hi, I have several iPhoto libraries, and currently have the main one identified as the default. However, when I sync my iPhone it only sees one of the others (which I accessed yesterday). I have opened and closed ITunes and iPhoto several times each in an attempt to reset them, but no dice.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks...

OK, thanks. Did all that...but I can't tell what's going on.
The iPhoto library it's pointing to has no albums at all, so I have only the choice of "All photos and albums" or the number of events.
If I scroll down to the Pictures folder in the Sync photos from option, it contains the folders from the other library.
This pretty much what it's looked like since I started having the problem -- even though can't say for sure when that was...

  • Cannot access my iPhoto Library

Cannot access my iPhoto Library. I have tried rebuilding the library and even moved my library back to my local hdd (as it was on an external hdd), but I still cannot access my iPhoto library. I can create a new library so I believe the software is ok.
Repair the iPhoto Library (check); Recover orphaned photos in the iPhoto Library folder (check); Examine and repair iPhoto Library file permissions (check).
I have tried each box in Rebuilding Photo Library, even Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup as I do have a backup system.
Two events took place that may have caused the issue: 1) My external drive was repaired due to some error(s) found on the drive 2) I changed the Computer Name.
Below is a screen shot of what happens in opening up iPhoto. After the initial indication that it is rebuilding something, it goes to this continous circular rotation. But again no access to the library.
Conclusion: I have my iPhoto library on two disks (local and an external HDD), but cannot access either one.

Called Apple and was awarded a "one-time only" support for my issue for which i was excited to save $49. The culprit was the "DataModelVersion.plist" For some reason it was blank. Copied the same file from the new library I had created and then choose "Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" and it began doing its thing of rebuilding. The only loss was having to re-organize 1200 photos from an event called "Recovered Project" which contained photos from my latest additions and renames.
Thanks for the suggestion Terrence on the iPhoto Library Manager...I had seen that you had recommended that in times past. For now, I'm glad the solution only "cost" a few hours on a free tech support with Senior Advisor.

  • I cannot access my iPhoto library?

I am unable to access my iPhoto library. It appears as though it has been deleted or something, however it hasn't? I can access the blue iPhoto folder, but the only thing that comes up in it is the acknowledgements. Also, I am able to access my pictures through my documents, and when I am uploading an image to a site, such as Facebook, I am able to access the iPhoto program, but only briefly when I am uploading the photo(s). I'm not sure if that made absolutely any sense at all, but this has been very frustrating and it would be fantastic if I could get some feedback. Thank you!

LarryHN is correct. I would also suggest completing your profile detaling what hardware you have because answers or even suggestion often depend on what device you are using.
There is however something you might like to try before you reply.
You could run Disk Utility and verify your hard drive.  It's possible that Disk Utilility will identify an error somewhere and offer to fix it, or suggest ways to fix it.
If no problems are identified, again using Disk Utility, try repairing 'Permissions'. It might also help to restart your Mac holding down the Shift key the moment that you hear the chime. Continue holding the Shift key down until you see the spinnning gear wheel.
Your Mac will now be starting up into 'Safe mode'. This time it will be clearing out certain temorary file files that may have become corrupted and the Mac will take a little longer to start up. But you needn't worry because this will be normal and you will shortly get to the usual Login screen.
When you get to log in screen you will see 'Safe mode' or 'Safe boot' at the top right of the screen.  No need to go any further. Just restart normally.
    Is it okay now?
No?  Well it's possible that the HDD directory may have become damaged in some way that Disk Utility is unable to itself fix.  In which case I would suggest getting hold of a copy of Disk Warrior from Alsoft.  This may cost you a few pence though.  Visit their website for a description of the problems it solves and give it some consideration.
Yes, I do use Disk Warrior myself. I am just a customer of theirs though.  I use DW every few months to optimise my Mac HDD directory. DW has saved my bacon several times since i first used it with my old PowerMac 6500/300 many years ago.

  • Photo booth cannot access my iPhoto library. Can you tell me why please?

I am trying to access my photo library through photo booth.  It asks me to "choose existing" and then user, photos.  I can see my iPhoto library there but I am not able to click and access it.  Could anyone tell me why please?

PhotoBooth and iPhoto has totally separate libraries and neither can access the other's library - there is nothing common between the two programs  --  use iPhoto to access your iPhoto library

  • Upgraded to iPhoto 6/iLife and cannot access my iPhoto Library - help!!!

I upgraded to iPhoto 6 tonight and ran sofware update so I was sure to have the latest version. Went to open it and it said I needed to upgrade my Library. So I start the upgrade of the library and it goes all the way through till it gets to "examining photo Library" Then when it looks like it is almost finished, a window pops up and says that there is a problem accessing one or more files in my photo library folder and goes through directions to go in the finder and check to be sure permissions are all set to read and write.
I cannot figure out how to find the locked file.
    Please Help!!!
    Thanks.
    imac g4 20"   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

The first thing you want to do is quit iPhoto, select your iPhoto Library in the Finder, and Get Info. Under Ownership and Permissions, click the triangle to show its expanded form.
If you are the owner and have read and write permissions, you will be able to click a button that says "Apply to enclosed items". Once you've entered your password, all items inside the library will have the right permissions.
If you're still getting the message, then some file inside is locked. I have no idea how they get that way, but iPhoto can't upgrade your library if a file is locked.
In your Applications/Utilities/ folder, launch Console and then launch iPhoto and get the message. Console should indicate which files are locked. Go to each of those files in the Finder, and Get Info on each. Uncheck the box that says "Locked" for each file listed in Console (there are usually only a couple or so).
Launch iPhoto again and it should work fine.

  • Downgraded operating system now cannot access my iphoto library?

I had to downgrade operating system to Mac OSX v 10.6.8 as my 2009 imac could not cope with more recent operation system. It was unresponsive and slow eg took ages to sync an ipod, slow to open applications like Mail, Adobe PS and Adobe Illustrator (creative cloud versions) were  impossibly slow to run.
Its running more like a normal imac since the macshop genuis guy wiped the whole lot and reinstalled a lesser operating systme but now I can not open my old iphoto library (which is on an external drive) as it was created with more recent software. Is it possible to upgrade just iPhoto so I can open the library OR to save it down somehow?
    Thanks for your suggestions.

If your iPhoto Library was last used with that more recent operating system, then you have to upgrade your version of iPhoto to the version you had. Since that version requires the more recent operating system and you cannot downgrade the library, I'm afraid either you lose the library or reinstall that more recent operating system.
I'm afraid what you should have done was to figure out how to make the new system work properly or had a full backup of your old system to reinstall along with your old iPhoto Library and iPhoto.
So you're pretty much between a rock and a hard place right now because you ran to your macshop genius guy.

  • I cannot access my iphoto library on my external Hard drive

    Hello,
I backed up my iphoto library to an external hard drive. Now when I try to access it, all I get are dotted outlines where the pictures should be and then when I click on a the dotted outline it gives me an exclamation mark in a triangle. Help! I hope I haven't lost all my photos!

i also had to copy the iphoto library to another 2nd external hard drive (because the first one stopped working)
Whatt does "stopped working" mean? If there is damage to a diks then there is a certain risk to material stored on it.
Has it ever worked on the second disk? If not then there are two places this can go wrong: the library damaged when the original disk went down or the process of copying may have not completed properly.

  • I cannot access my iPhoto library after Photos took over.

I have read a number earlier postings and potential solutions (without effect), but somehow am unable to access my large iPhoto library with the iPhoto program?  I made a copy (..after Photo's update) on an external HD but iPhoto can access neither this copy nor the former original library folder.  Photos looks fine but I need the simple ability to 'name' the photograph upon export whereas Photos simply uses the camera-given file name.  Is there a removal tool for Photos?  I'd appreciate any help thanks.

Are you using this menu option after selecting the photo to export?
which takes you to this window

  • Cannot access old iPhoto library in external drive that i used white macbook

I just bought new MBP and I tried holding down the command key and selected my old white macbook iPhoto library but it does not show any photos- help? (i already repaired permissions based on some instructions i found here - alt+command and double click iphoto) but still does not show the photos.
Please help, I have almost 200gb of photos here

move the library to the new machine - Connect the two Macs together (network, firewire target mode, etc)  or use an external hard drive formed Mac OS extended (journaled) and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity from the old Mac to the pictures folder of the new Mac - launch iPhoto on the new mac and it will open the library and convert it as needed and you will be ready move forward.

  • How do I update iPhoto after installing Mavericks, I cannot access my iPhoto library?

I updated my OS to Mavericks from OS Lion and now my iPhoto is out of date and will not open so I can access my photos. I tried to update it from the apps store and it told me my Apple ID was not the one that had been registered or created when the Mac was bought.
Please help, I need my photos!

Contact App Store support. There's a link on the right hand side of the App Store Window. They're the only ones who can sort out account issues.

The iPhoto library should be in your user folder/Pictures unless it was moved.

  • My IPhoto library will not sync all my photo's and videos to my IPhone 4

My IPhoto library will not sync all my photo's and videos to my IPhone 4. It comes up well short every time. After syncing, I get a message,  "example 1171 photo's could not be synced, please see Itunes for help". I have lots of space/gb on my Iphone, so I'm confused. I've done a factory reset and done all the usual stuff, but to no avail. My Iphone is a 32gb IPhone 4, my IMAC is OS10.6.8 and my IPhoto is IPhoto 08. I appologise in advance if i'm posting in the wrong place, so please no nasty trolls. I just need good, honest, kindly advice and a solution to this. I use my IPhone as a further external backup for my photo's
    Kindest regards
    Paul

Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for the iPod Photo Cache.
Trash it. Start iPhoto and try sync again.

I believe Gmail has an option for Two-Step verification that may require a different password for mobile devices than for your computer.

    Hi, BartleyBauer.
If the media that you are attempting to sync plays in iTunes, try removing the preference to sync music as this remove the media from the device.  Once this is done, try syncing the media again.
