Cannot Access Firefox Sync in Linux

I have installed the Sync add-on for my Ubuntu Linux desktop version 10.10. I have Firefox 4.0 for Linux installed. The add-on installs fine and I am able to complete the setup process. When I go to the Sync tab in Preferences I get a error stating "Incorrect account name or password". I've tried the reset and update options with no success. If I choose the "Sync Now" option from the new Firefox button, I get a status message on the bottom of the browser that states "Sync encountered an error while connecting: Incorrect account name or password". I've even tried setting up a new account with a different email address and the results are always the same.

If you are the only user then there is a easy way to have Plugins for browsers like Firefox. Make a plugins folder in .mozilla and place the libflashplayer.so there.
~/.mozilla/plugins/
Note that the current version of Flash player for Linux is 11.2.202.4'''42''' as older versions are on blocklist.

  • Upon reinstalling Firefox, I cannot access my sync key-there is no "Manage Account"

    Once upon a time , after updating Firefox & before the treacherous AVG toolbar wreaked havoc- I had synced my new iTouch with Firefox.
    They were living happily ever after until the above mentioned treachery took place. The devastation left no alternative but to uninstall my beloved Firefox & reinstall.
    All went smoothly until... I tired to reunite my iTouch with it's long lost Firefox Sync.
    The Fairy Tale ending is in tatters as I write this (drat you AVG toolbar!)...
    simply put:
    - going to Tools->Options->Sync only allows me to Set Up Firefox Sync.
    - there is no Manage Account option.
    - which means I cannot access my sync key...
    After researching & failing to find a workable solution to this dilemma, I decided to set up a new account;
    it says '[email protected]' is already in use... it's a vicious circle...
    Can anyone help straighten this out so my Fairy Tale ends happily?

    I followed your advice- a plausible solution to be sure & one to finally reunite my iTouch & Firefox Sync...in fact, I've followed you advice several times over the last month as I continue to get the following Oops message:
    ''Oh dear.
    Looks like one of the dinosaurs escaped again. We keep them away from the data, so that should be safe.
    Please try again later when we've wrestled him back onto the treadmill.''
    Does anyone know when the escapee might be returned to his treadmill?

  • Cannot access my sync account

    I cannot access my sync account on any computer. I have tried to get it to send me the password so I can access it, but I never get the e-mail. Although I attempt to set up a new account in the event that I did not use that e-mail to set up my account and it says it is already in use. So I cannot access my account and I cannot create a new account with my current e-mail. I cannot move forward or backward here. Is my only option to go back to IE?

    You are right. Sync's reset password feature is broken at the moment.
    I found a bug where the issue is being tracked and as soon as a fix is posted there I'll update this post. It looks like the server that sends the emails is offline or having some other sort of technical issue. I can't say for sure b/c I don't work for Mozilla.
    Anyway, even the Mozilla employees themselves are unable to get their password reset emails. So take comfort in knowing that you aren't the only one with this problem. :) As far as how soon you can expect a fix? I didn't see any timetable for that. I'll let you know if that changes.

  • I cannot access Firefox at all anymore other than a blank screen and a "Firefox is not responding" message.

    I updated the versions of both Firefox and Adobe and now I cannot access Firefox at all. There is a blank screen with Mozilla Firefox top left. A couple of seconds later "(not responding)" appears. An attempt to close the window results in a box with the message "Firefox is not responding"

    You may need to delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing the latest Firefox.<br />
    In case you still have problems after installing then check your security software.
    A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
    Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • I deleated Firefox 4 from my PPC machine, reloaded 3.6, and cannot access my Sync or replace the sync.

    I do not recall my sync password, and cannot replace my sync account. The Email is still in use by an account I cannot replace the password for.
    Is there any way to recover my original account?

    Has anyone figured out how to get it working again?

  • Cannot configure firefox sync and do not have add a device option

    I am very frustrated. I have spent a lot of time over the past two days trying to figure out how to ocnfigure Firefox sync. I am specifically trying to sync my iphone to my account. I have downloaded two apps from the Apple App store, both of which are designed to allow me to do so. When I open both of these apps they provide me with a pass code that is broken up into three sections each containing 4 letter and or number combinations, just as I see in all the articles designed to assist me with this issue. However, I open my sync dashboard and do not see ANY tab that states "Add a Device" as the articles also say. So I click on the "I am not near my computer" tab in the apps (both appear to work identically) and I am asked to enter my account, password, and sync key info. I cannot find an article anywhere that tells me what my sync key is or how to recover it if I have forgotten it~!!!@!!!!!!!! Please freaking help me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Apps in the Apple App Store are not from Mozilla and possibly no longer work with Firefox as Firefox has now moved from Sync to Firefox Accounts. Mozilla does not have any apps out there in the Apple app store however, 3rd parties may but they're not vetted by Mozilla.

  • I cannot access Firefox from my Mac desktop.

    I use Firefox all the time on my MacBook. Today, after using it all day, I exited the computer. Then when I tried to access Firefox again, nothing happened. The icon in the desktop usually jumps up and down but this is not happening. If I go to Finder and click on the last entry under Firefox, the computer grinds away and then I have told that the computer cannot access this application (1712).

    Try downloading Firefox from [http://www.getfirefox.com www.getfirefox.com] and installing it over your existing Firefox.

  • I cannot access Firefox (didn't like new version, so did System Restore to go back to 3.6.15).

    I'm using a laptop with Windows XP. I updated to newest version of Firefox, but really didn't like some changes it made, especially to my Gmail. So I did a System Restore. Since then I have not been able to access Firefox, although I've tried 4 different ways several times--it just won't come up on the screen, so I've had to use Internet Explorer. I went to the control panel (Add or Remove Program), and found that I still have version 3.6.15, and it even says that I last used it today, even though it never came up on the screen. I hope that someone can help me with this problem. I. E. is slow!

  • Cannot uninstall Firefox Sync 1.7

    I installed Firefox Sync 1.7 about 2 days ago. It keeps erroring out when it syncs. I went to uninstall it. It does not show up as an Add-On or Plug-In anywhere in my menus. How do I get rid of it?

    Hi - using the Microsoft fix-it tool available here, running as administrator, did the trick for me: http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
    I selected the options that allowed me to manually choose which program to uninstall...then I was able to re-install java from the Oracle Java 7 download/installer.
    Good luck!

  • I added a plugin and now cannot access Firefox web page

    I have lost access to Firefox webpage and pray for step 1 in how to once again regain access

    To avoid confusion.<br />
    Did you add a plugin (Tools > Add-ons > Plugins) or installed a Firefox extension (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions)?
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Customizing+Firefox+with+add-ons
    In case of the latter, try to start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
    *Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

    Hi Bernard, normally, when doing a Reset, Firefox moves your old profile folder to the desktop (in a folder named Old Firefox Data), creates a new profile folder incorporating some of the data from your old profile, and updates a configuration file with the new profile folder name. It sounds as though this broke down somewhere along the way. Let's see whether it was that third step.
    In order to ease the next few steps, please make sure that you can view hidden files and folders. This article has the steps:
    * Windows XP: http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/win_fcab_show_file_extensions.mspx
    * Newer Windows: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/show-hidden-files
    To open your Firefox data folder, you can type or paste the following into either the Start menu Run box, Search box, or into the address bar of a Windows Explorer/My Computer window:
    %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox
    In the folder that loads, you should see a Profiles folder and a file named profiles.ini (it's a text file you can edit with Notepad).
    Click into the Profiles folder to see whether you can find a semi-randomly-named folder. If you find it, click into it to confirm that it contains some files and isn't empty. If there is stuff there, let's work with it. Up in the address bar of Windows Explorer, select and copy the semi-random name of the folder, or you can make a note of it somewhere.
    Return back up to the Firefox folder. Right-click>Edit the profiles.ini file and it should open in Notepad. You should see something like the following:
    [General]
    StartWithLastProfile=1
    [Profile0]
    Name=default
    IsRelative=1
    Path=Profiles/'''asdf1234.default'''
    Default=1
    The part of Path after Profiles/ needs to match the name of the folder you copied or noted earlier. Go ahead and fix it and save the file.
    Then try to start Firefox again. Any luck?
    If the existing profile (post-Reset) is missing completely, or is missing important data, we can grab one of the earlier profile folders from the Old Firefox Data folder on your desktop. For the steps to do that, please see this post: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1025708#answer-641099

  • I cannot access firefox because it says it is already running. It is asking me to close the program that is running I cannot find where it is. I uninstalled and reinstalled the latest version. It did not correct the problem

    when I click the firefox link a window pops up saying a the program is already running and I must close that program in order to run a current one. I went through task manager and then completly uninstalled firefox and reinstalled the newest version. This did not help.

    Firefox worked fine, had multiple pages upon opening for weeks, then switched back to single tab home page, then switched back to multiple.
