Cannot access help

For some reason I cannot access help in finder. I get the following message; "The selected topic is currently unavailable.Make sure you are connected to the internet. For help connecting, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Network, and click “Assist me.”
If you’re connected to the Internet, and the content still doesn’t appear, try again later."
As I am currently connected to the internet, this seems strange to me. I am able to access anything else I wish to, just not any Apple Help topics.

I tried all the procedures such as deleting help preferences , deleting caches , etc etc - none of them worked. they even tried to blame my isp - apparently the help system connects to the net. .. not messing with that stuff , not when everything else just works..
I do have one mac - an old mac pro where help does work so I thought i'd see what i'm missing...
All help does is link you to apple's knowledge base library ( which you can easily access via google search ) or offer a few rudimentary tips that you can find in any product's pdf help files ( another google search )
If you have prblems with a printer , a scanner , your mac or anything else - forget the 'help' menu - it's hopeless
Try here or macrumors or macnn or many of the dozens of mac help forums filled with people having similar problems to you - a lot of them having problems with this crappy help viewer !!!
I bought a mac mini from the applestore and the hellp stuff wasn't even pre-installed - and due to the os being pre installed i cant use pacifist to get a help pkg and reinstall....!
Nuff said !

    There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 10 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
    Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • I cannot access "Help"  in Elements 5.0

    I loaded Elements 5.0 but cannot access the Help files. When clicking on the drop down menu "Help", and then "Photoshop Elements Help..." I get an error message "The operation could not be completed"
    I get the same response when I click on "Tutorials..." and "Glossary of terms...".
    I run Microsoft XP on a new Dell PC.
    I have never used Photoshop before, and use Adobe Reader 8.0.

    Did you disable your antivirus and all Norton products before installing? Did you install from and are you running the program as an administrator?

    1- Update the firmware to:

    2- Open terminal and use this command to mount:
         sudo mount -t nfs -o resvport <server ip address>:/mnt/ide1/<sharename> /<mounting point>
    OR: apple+K (( connect to server)):
         smb://username:password@<server address>/<sharename>

  • Cannot access 'Help' files in Adobe Captivate v5.0.1.625

    Running WinXp\SP3 & IE7. Dual Core with 4 GB RAM, When trying to access 'Help' Captivate temporarily freezes. I can access other web links within the program. No error messages appear, program just resumes. Also applied the latest patch for Captivate 5.

    Lilybiri is absolutely right. The Help in CP is AIRHelp. So have you already installed AIR?
    I believe now you have installed CP in your own PC and you are doing this for the first time and you are unable to access HELP file, so you should check in your PC that wheteher the AIR is installed or not?
    If you have installed CP in the default drive (C:\Program Files\) there inside the common files (C:\Program Files\Common Files) you will find the folder for AIR.
    So just make sure is that installed in your PC or not?

    THE GREAT SOLUTION TO "HELP VIEWER" NOT SHOWING ANYTHING/STALLING/CRASHING/NOT LINKING.
    Help viewer has some hiccups, which mainly surround its function of connecting to the internet in order to retreive extra help documents to supplement the ones on your hard disk.
    When you are plugged into a non-internet network (ie your ethernet cable is plugged in, you have an ip active, but you cannot go online), help sits there and tries to get its extra online documents. But it hangs.
    So (and I found this out today by accident when using an iBook connected to an internal network):
    Step 1: Realise that you need to use help to find out x.
    Step 2: Before opening the help viewer, save all open files, get yourself to a bare desktop with no network/airport orientated applications running, then disconnect your ethernet cable from your Apple, turn Airport off, and ensure no network activity is occuring.
    Step 3: Start Help Viewer, ensuring "Include product support searches" is unchecked.
    Step 4: Use Help Viewer, and be amazed that it works.
    Basically, the objective is to entirely disconnect the computer from ANY network source (ie make it standalone) before an instance of hanging/lagging/blank "Help Viewer" will work.

    F1 should cause your web browser to open Photoshop Help | Photoshop Help Something must be messed up in your installation perhaps some file system permissions were not set correctly.

  • Cannot Use Help In Verizon Yahoo?

    Hello. From my Verizon/Yahoo homepage or Verizon email I cannot access Help.  For example, if I am in my email and click on Help, the webpage that appears has a Help Index on the left side listing options you can click on, such as Troubleshooting, Email, Member Center, etc.  If I click on Email, I get a webpage that has email topic headings you can click on.  If I try to type in a search topic in the Help Index search box, I keep getting a webpage that reads " Internet Explorer Cannot Display This Webpage".  I have tried to Refresh without any results and always end up clicking on Diagnose Possible Connection Problems that sends a report to Microsoft. 
    There is also a box to click for More Information.  I have tried what was suggested like working offline, going to favorites, making sure that under Internet Options certain things were checked and still cannot resolve this issue.  Anyone know what the problem could be?

    That is peculiar. I have not heard of this happening before. Please try deleting your temporary internet files and cookies, close your browser, then try again.

    It should. So they aren't shown in the Last Import smart album, right? Try the following:
    1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
    2 - Run Option #4, Rebuild Database, followed by Option #1 if needed.

    I have the same problem, I tried the solution of Dr Cox but that didn't work as he said go to system preference then mail, contacts etc. but I don't have that.  Can someone help?

    In System Preferences>iCloud: Sign Out, reboot and then Sign In with your ID and password.
    If Find My Mac is switched on you will be unable to sign out without the previous owners password.

  • I cannot access itunes on my pc it works on my laptop but not on my desktop. It used to work and no longer does it just keeeps trying all the time but doesn't connect. I have tried apple suggestions but still not accessing store. Help?

    I have been using this desktop for itunes for years. Never any problems. Recently I cannot access the store it keeps trying but does not load. I can access form my laptop but not from the desktop. I get automatic updates form microsoft so the system is up to date. It is very frustrating and means that I haven't and ups to date library on my desktop and I play my music on this whn I'm upstairs. Can anyone help me with this one?

    Your Apple ID still exists with the most recent password that you used.  You can use it to erase your iPad. Read this.

    Paldeng, thanks for the suggestion.  I've done all that.  I can connect to the server, but apparently they are not recognizing my ID and password.  I can use the server program if I don't go through Mail (using the same ID and password).  My mother in another state with another provider has had the same email issue, as also my husband on his laptop who uses the same internet connection I do.  His worked fine until we had it repaired at the Apple store and all the original programs reloaded (with the required updates, I assume).  We can receive email in Mail, we just cannot send.
    I contacted my service provider, and we went over my connections.  They said it was not their problem and connected me with Apple, resulting in a charge to me because my warranty is long expired.  Apple swears it is not their problem, it is the provider, so here I sit.  My son was able to fix my Mom's Mail (she's 97) and got my husband's working also, until mine went out, by tweaking connection descriptions and ports remotely.  The thing is, we had not messed with any of those settings, so what changed?  I just did not want to bother my son again, as he has many other demands on his time.
    Since this fiasco with the Mail v4.6 update, I'm wondering if something else was updated that works well with Lion and Mountain Lion, but does not work well with Snow Leopard and Leopard.  I think the problem I had with the Mail update was that my Mail program had been renamed to Mail (original), and therefore was not being recognized by the update.  Perhaps they had another tweak in there somewhere that is affecting outgoing mail connections?

    I am having the same issue!  I see several people are having this problem, and I see there is no solution from Apple!  Why is it I only see problems on this site and never any solutions?
