Cannot access hotmail in Safari mail

I access my hotmail emails in safari, but, now safari won't let me.  I get different messages in safari depending on what i tamper with in it.  I can get safari to accept in and outgoing mail servers, but not at the same time.  The message constantly tells me that I need to verify my password, but when I enter it, I am told to do it again, therefore, presumably wrong.  Can i change it?  but this won't solve the problem of the server.  At wits end.  Windows looks a good option.  Please help.
I use Mavericks.  OS X 10.9.4.  Macbook pro mid 2010

Try going to Mail/Preferences/Accounts/Outgoing Mail Server/Edit SMTP Server List and set up a separate server for each account. That should fix the SMTP problem.

Is there any chance your AOL account has been hacked?  Check it to make sure your password is still what you think it is.
Also make sure caps lock isn't on when typing your password.

  • Cannot access Hotmail

I have just bought a new Apple Macbook. I am unable to access hotmail - Safari gives message re. unable to access server. I have cleared cache and reset Safari. No joy. I have gone to Preferences and enabled "cookies". Please can anybody help. I am absolutely frustrated. I can access other internet sites without any problems. Thank you, Helen Hall

thank you for your response. I will try Snow Leopard this evening. Made some progress. Set up Entourage for mail and redirected Hotmail through it. It appeared to work. However, I have noticed that I cannot sent messages to any hotmail.co.uk or hotmail.com account. They remain in the Outbox and there is a message to say that the Hotmail server has failed. All messages to other providers are sent without any problem. Thank you and I will keep in touch. Helen

  • Certificate authentication problem, accessing hotmail through safari

When trying to access hotmail on my Mac I keep getting a invalid security certificate. eg: The certificate for accessing blu169.mail.live.com is not valid etc.... When I click on expand the certificate looks ok (it is mail.live.com signed by Verisign).
I have checked the date and time are both correct and is set to auto. I have cleared cache and cookies with no change. It is isolated to the Mac, as I can still access the account from my iphone. It affects multiple accounts, as I cannot access using an alternate email address either.

This could be a complicated problem to solve, as there are several possible causes for it.
Back up all data, then take each of the following steps that you haven't already taken. Stop when the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
    From the menu bar, select
               ▹ System Preferences... ▹ Date & Time
Select the Time Zone tab in the preference pane that opens and check that the time zone matches your location. Then select the Date & Time tab. Check that the data and time shown (including the year) are correct, and correct them if not.
    Check the box marked
              Set date and time automatically
if it's not already checked, and select one of the Apple time servers from the menu next to it.
    Step 2
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /System/Library/Keychains/SystemCACertificates.keychain
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
              Services ▹ Show Info
from the contextual menu.* An Info dialog should open. The dialog should show "You can only read" in the Sharing & Permissions section.
    Repeat with this line:
    /System/Library/Keychains/SystemRootCertificates.keychain
If instead of the Info dialog, you get a message that either file can't be found, reinstall OS X.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Open a TextEdit window and paste into it by pressing command-V. Select the line you just pasted and continue as above.
    Step 3
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the icon grid.
In the upper left corner of the window, you should see a list headed Keychains. If not, click the button in the lower left corner that looks like a triangle inside a square.
In the Keychains list, there should be items named System and System Roots. If not, select
              File ▹ Add Keychain
from the menu bar and add the following items:
    /Library/Keychains/System.keychain
    /System/Library/Keychains/SystemRootCertificates.keychain
Open the View menu in the menu bar. If one of the items in the menu is
              Show Expired Certificates
select it. Otherwise it will show
              Hide Expired Certificates
    which is what you want.
From the Category list in the lower left corner of the window, select Certificates. Look carefully at the list of certificates in the right side of the window. If any of them has a a blue-and-white plus sign or a red "X" in the icon, double-click it. An inspection window will open. Click the disclosure triangle labeled Trust to disclose the trust settings for the certificate. From the menu labeled
              Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)
    select
              no value specified
Close the inspection window. You'll be prompted for your administrator password to update the settings.
Now open the same inspection window again, and select
When using this certificate: Use System Defaults
Save the change in the same way as before.
Revert all the certificates with non-default trust settings. Never again change any of those settings.
    Step 4
Select My Certificates from the Category list. From the list of certificates shown, delete any that are marked with a red X as expired or invalid.
Export all remaining certificates, delete them from the keychain, and reimport. For instructions, select
              Help ▹ Keychain Access Help
from the menu bar and search for the term "export" in the help window. Export each certificate as an individual file; don't combine them into one big file.
    Step 5
    From the menu bar, select
Keychain Access ▹ Preferences... ▹ Certificates
There are three menus in the window. Change the selection in the top two to Best attempt, and in the bottom one to  CRL.
    Step 6
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:
    /var/db/crls
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
A folder named "crls" should open. Move all the files in that folder to the Trash. You’ll be prompted for your administrator login password.
Restart the computer, empty the Trash, and test.
    Step 7
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    open -e /etc/hosts
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting. A TextEdit window should open. At the top of the window, you should see this:
    # Host Database
    # localhost is used to configure the loopback interface
    # when the system is booting.  Do not change this entry.
    127.0.0.1                              localhost
    255.255.255.255          broadcasthost
    ::1                                        localhost
    fe80::1%lo0                    localhost
If that's not what you see, post the contents of the window.

  • Accessing Hotmail with Safari from button in MSN Messenger.

I have just bought a new iBook and have installed MSN messenger on it which I use a lot. However, sometimes when I click the link to get to my Hotmail inbox, Safari opens but keeps repeating accessing the same links that always appear as you enter your inbox and goes round and round in circles, never getting to my Hotmail, with the screen staying blank.
I know there is no issue with my personal Hotmail account as if I then open Internet Explorer I can access my hotmail. It's a really weird problem which I never experienced on my old iMac.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks very much.

    I) Go to Hotmail, Messenger, My MSN
I delete all cookies after, signing out, so I start with none, before signing in it is possible this helps to avoid the circle of errors some get. In Safari 1 use to have to enable cookies to Always to sign out of Hotmail.
    2) click on the one which best describes your account for example My MSN
for me ( this is a free Passport hotmail account )
    3) Log in to My MSN/ Messenger or Hotmail , I have to log in again to get to hotmail, after logging into My MSN.
    4) Or you can click Windows Live ID just under "Sign in using enhanced security" you can choose to: "Use the Passport Network to sign in to MSN Messenger, MSN Hotmail, MSN Music, and other sites and services! The Passport Network works with Windows Live ID. It's free to access the Passport Network. After you sign up and create credentials, you can sign in on any site that displays Microsoft Passport Network or Windows Live ID". I have not done this, so i do not know how it works.
Logging in has change at least 3 times in the last two weeks, still I have been able to log in & using Safari. Hope this helps. please let me know since this has been an on going issue for many users. I have posted to this somewhat & I would like to know if it works. Thx.

  • Cannot access iCloud through Safari on iPad?

    Greetings from Malawi
iCloud is working on my iMac and according to all settings is actually on with the iPad 2. When I try to get access to icloud through Safari on the iPad it diverts me from icloud.com to icloud.com/ipad_welcome.
I then get suggested to "Set up iCloud on this device" But everything that this tells me to do I have done.
I have managed to upload some documents from iPad to my mac so something is working!
Should I delete account and start again?
What happens if I delete the account? Do i have to get new mail address and reset the desktop as well?
    My iMac is on 10.7.3
    Thanks in advance

Unlike a computer, https://www.icloud.com isn't accessible from any iPad browser AFAIK and that's almost certainly by design. If you have iCloud set up properly, everything you do on the iPad is already syncing (mail, contacts, Pages, Photo Stream, etc.).
You can also make any adjustments to your iCloud settings on the iPad. Settings > iCloud...
So there doesn't seem to be a need to access iCloud via Safari (or any web browser) from the iPad.
Others may figure out a work-around, but I'm not sure what it would accomplish.
I can see the need on a computer...particularly if you don't have yours with you and you want to access your mail or contacts...but it seems redundant to do it on the iPad.
Was there a reason you needed to have access with Safari?

  • I cannot access to my e-mail from my computer

Since I moved yesterday to ICloud, now is asking me "The SMTP server “smtp.me.com” rejected the password for user XXX". I do not understand what password is asking me. I use to have mobileme and I just can access to my e-mail trought ICloud now.  I have a @mac e-mail account, but is not working since yesterday from my computer and from my iphone either. Someone with the same problem?

Thanks!....I did alredy trought mobileme (that was before I moved to ICloud yesterday).  I am so confused about all this changes with ICloud.  Is supposed I have my @mac account paid until june 2012, and since yesterday in my iphone says "The user name or password to .Mac is incorrect" and another one "you account has expired".  My e-mail is not working from my Iphone anymore
Also, I received yesterday an e-mail from ICloud:  "Congratulations on moving to iCloud. Your Apple ID for iCloud is [email protected]". Says the same name of my account but with @me....So now my question: is my account  .Mac or .me?
When I access to my e-mail now, trought ICloud I put the same account (with @mac) and my same password as usual and I can access but if I try from my computer I am receiveng this message about the smtp.me.com.
Do I have to change something in my computer's settings about my account?
I will continue reading in the communities, maybe I can find a solution.

  • Cannot Delete Hotmail Mailbox in Mail 5.2

    Hi,
Im trying to delete my hotmail inbox from Mail 5.2 on my Mac. I tried "delete mailbox" by right click and from the Mailbox menu. Also tried dragging the mailbox to trash and nothing.
I had no problems deleting the mailbox on my ipad and iphone ... its on my Mac that it will not disappear.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks so much in advance.

If you're trying to delete the Hotmail account, open Mail preferences. Select the Accounts tab. Highlight the Hotmail account and click the "-" sign at the bottom of the window to remove the account.
You can't just delete the inbox of an active account like you were trying to do.

  • Cannot access bookmarks using Safari on I-Phone

I am suddenly unable to access bookmarks using Safari on my I-Phone. When I press the Bookmarks icon in the toolbar at the bottom, it doesn't come up with my bookmarks but shows another toolbar instead with a single button on the left hand side called "Edit". Bookmarks are all there and accessible when using Safari on my computer and have been imported to my I-Phone. The "Send webpage as URL" icon also doesn't do anything, neither does the "Home" icon. "previous" and "Next" icons do work.

Turning off wouldn't help because settings would remain even after you restarted. So contact your email provider and them for the correct settings.

  • Cannot access Web Link from Mail

When I try to access a Web Link from a mail message it is launching iPhoto and trying to create a subscription.  For the life of me I cannot find where I might be able to redirect this to launch Safari instead of iPhoto.  No idea how this was changed either?
    Can anybody help!

I knew it was sooooo easy, but I just kept glaning over it!!!  Thanks Linc.

  • Why can't I access hotmail through safari?

In the last two weeks, I can't access my hotmail account from safari on my desk top, anyone else having this problem?

  • I cannot access hotmail through Mozilla anymore, only through Explorer

About 4 days ago I received an email from a friend with glittering butterfly wings. I sent it back to her and got an email notice of non-delivery from hotmail which I put into junk mail. No problems until I got another notice of nondelivery the next day and this one I deleted and from April 2nd to today (April 4th) I can see my email titles but when I click on them the page doesn't change and I can't read them.I contacted webroot and they found that I could access my emails by getting them through Internet Explorer rather than Mozilla so this has temporarily helped but I want to be back on Mozilla.

    SOLVED!
Ok after hours of frustrating trial and error, I solved this on my system. ( I can login to hotmail, but, cant compose, view folders, send etc.)
    Change the HTTPS settings:
1.From your browser, login to Hotmail.
    2.Click Options (right hand top)
    3.More options
    4./customizing Hotmail
    5./advanced privacy settings
    6./using https for extra security
    7./goto https settings
    8./Use HTTPS automatically.
9./Click save, restart the browser and it worked!
Sometimes you can simply add a "s" to http:// in the address bar, making it https:// Then, your browser should popup asking if you want to always use https:// in which case you click yes and save.
BTW this https tip should work on any browser Mozilla, IE, Chrome etc.
Hope this helps someone out there!
