Cannot access 'Info' when device connected to computer.

Don't know if this is a Q for the iTunes section or the iPhone section, but will give it a go...
Whenever I connect my iPhone to iTunes and it has finished syncing, in the devices section, I cannot access the 'Info' tab. Each time I do it crashes and won't respond. The error message just says that the AppleMobileDeviceHelper has encountered a problem and needs to close. I end up have to shut it down manually and restart my computer, otherwise iTunes doesn't run properly if I just re-open it.
Any ideas anyone?

Follow the directions here to remove & then re-install itunes:

What version of iTunes is on the computer? You need at least 11.4.

    Hey All
I have actually managed to find out what it is so thanks for any suggestions up to now.
At work, we use McAfee AntiVirus.  Part of this is McAfee SiteAdvisor 3.5 for Internet Security.
In Policy Catalog in the McAfee ePO system under SiteAdvisor, there is Hardening setting.  What this does is block any unauthorised browser from being able to run.  Safari, along with the likes of Opera and some others are automatically blocked by this.  Once you uncheck, to allow users to run Safari, it works fine.

Firefox would not load Yahoo home page properly, checked add ons and plugins-no problem. So unistalled. When reinstalling, went through until the end, then I get:
Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access this item.
I went through the Help section on this page, even to right clicking the file and "run as administrator". It went through and restarted the computer. When I went to look for the program, it wasn't listed in All programs. I searched files and the only thing there was the same message as above.

Do a clean (re)install and delete the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\).
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    *Firefox 13.0.x: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible.

Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

  • HT204053 Seems my iCloud password is not the same as my iTunes.  Where do I go to reset my iCloud password?  I cannot access anything when prompted to put in my iCloud password because I do NOT KNOW it.  Thanks!

Seems my iCloud password is not the same as my iTunes.  Where do I go to reset my iCloud password?  I cannot access anything when prompted to put in my iCloud password because I do NOT know it.  Thanks!  I've used my iTunes password for everything else Apple does and would like to use the same one for my iCloud.

    Do the following:
Make sure you are signed into iMessage and FaceTime with your current ID.  If they are signed into the old ID, go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive and Settings>FaceTime, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with your current ID.
Then temporarily recreate the old ID by going to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  (You should not have to verify the old email account so it doesn’t matter if you no longer have access to it.)  Now go to Settings>iCloud, turn off Find My iDevice and enter your current password when prompted (even though it prompts you for the password for your old ID).  Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Sign Out (or Delete Account if you are not running iOS 8) and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign back in with your current iCloud ID and password (your data will download back to your device).

  • Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file.

NOTE:  My access is through terminal services.
I received a new server to load my IBM Rational products.  I was able to load ClearQuest, Req Pro and ClearCase with no problems.  Because this machine is being used as a web interface for the products, I needed to also load Crystal Reports XI along with the embedded report server.  Well, I got everything installed but the embedded reports server.
On my attempt to double click on the file that would extract and install the addins needed I received the error message:
Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file.  You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.
After some testing I see that if I select any executable associated with installing an application, I get this error.
I've been searching all over the internet for a solution to this proble.  Does anyone know why this happens and what I can do to fix it?

Ok this will be a long post, and for starters I wanted to point something out to everyone - there is two separate discussions going on in this thread. On one side you have a discussion about servers and people using thin clients or Citrix having this error
code and changing Internet Explorer to resolve this conflict. Then on the other side all the stand alone home users with XP and Vista and 7 trying to figure out what is going on with their install that has the exact same error code. Microsoft in their infinite
wisdom has given this error code to relate to multiple different errors hence the confusion.
Now here is my story, with out a resolution yet.
Ok, so I ran into a real nasty trojan virus, that is now resolved and gone. However, when I went into the process of being able to resolve this issue a sticky byproduct was this permissions issue. This is how it happens, I download a video with Firefox or
any browser Opera, IE whatever. Then after I have downloaded it into the proper location I can see it within the downloads list from the browser, should I double click to launch the video with WMV it will fail with that error "Windows cannot access the
specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permission to access the item". However, should I open the directory and then launch from the true download location, rather in the list of the files within the browser download list it
will launch fine. This is the problem I can utilize the programs directly launching them from explorer, however should I try and launch a program from inside another program it will fail to launch.
This is a Vista 64 bit installation, and I am pretty tech savvy individual. What I have tried thus far is to take owner ship of the directory since trusted installer was the owner previously. After I had done that I went into the permissions of the exe and
sought to make sure that the file was open for everyone to be able to modify and have full control - it was. After that I also tried launching the browsers as admin privileges to see if it would still launch. It will not it refuses to allow calls to this directory.
That being said it is also a big problem when I use Corel DVD Moviefactory, because this program is trying to launch other programs from this directory to run. So, I need to figure out why is it that I am not able to have programs make calls to this directory
and try and launch exe files and fail, yet the permissions are fine and I can launch them from directly clicking on the item in a directory?
Further clarification as to what happens:
    Firefox downloads to Harvester\downloads
All my pictures, movies, executable, rar/zip, reside in this directory "downloads"
In the browser Firefox there is a "downloads" [contrl+J] list that shows what you have downloaded through the browser
All of these items are able to double click and execute from this list with out having to navigate to the "downloads" directory
When executing a WMV file it will fail and error out with the "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permission to access the item" error.
However, navigating to this directory will allow me to launch all programs with out any problem, the difference is I am launching from the file rather than through a program making a call to the x86 directory to launch the file. If I have an item that doesn't
require a program to launch from the x86 directory it will launch ok through Firefox, ex InfanView, HJsplit, etc.
This is a problem with other programs making calls to external programs residing in the x86 directory like Corel Moviefactory 7. While running it will make the same error "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the
appropriate permission to access the item" when trying to make a new DVD, because it utilizes something in that directory an external program.
This happens with Opera as well, don't know about IE I don't use it.
What I have done thus far:
Removed my firewall that was MS native firewall
Removed my anti-virus and malware software - AVG, MalwareBytes, Windows Defender, Windows Security Essentials, Spybot Search and Destroy, Spy cop, and a few others
Went and took ownership of the directory
    Tried registry hacks
Altered AVG to exclude the (x86) directory
Re-installed AVG and MalwareBytes to see if I can repair the file
Shared the (x86) directory for everyone and inherited the permissions
Tried CLI restoring of default permissions
Tried to make changes in safe mode still shut down.
This is where I am now....waiting for a scan to end to reboot and check to see if I was able to make any progress.

Installed FF 16, 17, 18. Will not open in normal administrator login, nor with "Run as administrator" but will in W7 safe mode. Changed permissions (had to do it in W7 Safe Mode, normal login would not allow (logged in as an administrator) could not delete the Mozilla files in normal login. On rare occasions, with a new install, I could get it to open once, then not again. Searched the reg for any mention of Mozilla or FF and cleaned it. Tried FF safe mode, no luck. Checked permissions after taking ownership and propagating full ownership rights to all FF files, many reboots, no luck. Chrome, IE and SeaMonkey work fine. Using a fairly new install of W7 Professional 64 bit, on a Dell Optiplex 990 i7, 16GB ram. Had the same problem with another user on an identical box. No problem on other computers No other program problems.

I should have been a bit more definitive.
I have uninstalled FF, with the windows uninstaller, by manually cleaning the files and the registry of any mention of FF or Mozilla, and by running Revo uninstaller - always rebooting and checking to see if the files are indeed gone. (I have set windows file preferences to see all files, including system files.) I have run 4 AV/malware scanners and found nothing but a few tracking cookies. I download, from Mozilla.org, (http://download.cdn.mozilla.net/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/18.0/win32/en-US/Firefox%20Setup%2018.0.exe) a fresh copy of the Firefox Setup 18.0.exe each time and install when logged in as an administrator and choose "Run as Administrator". I get the same result each time I try to open Firefox. Consistently does not open, gives the error: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla\firefox.exe Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." This happens even when I run the .exe file from the x86 program directory. I have also attempted to run in XPsp3 compatibility mode to no avail,
    I make the following assumptions:
    The system is not infected
    I am doing clean installs
There is no existing trace of FF on the system
I get identical results on one other W7 64 bit Optiplex 990 system with an i7 processor and 16 GB or ram.
I CAN run in windows safe mode with networking.
I have no other software or hardware issues.

  • "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file, you may not have appropriate permission to access the item" Why?

Whenever i try to access any folder on my computer(Windows 7), it tells me "Windows
cannot access the specified device, path, or file, you may not have appropriate permission to access the item",
    this happens even for My
Computer and Control Panel. It's driving me nuts! I'll be honest here, I was trying to uninstall Visual
Studio 2013 Communityfrom my computer by going to Programs
and Features but for some reason, it was getting stuck at "Configuring
Your System". After trying it numerous times, I went to the visual studio installation directory, and removed
the installation files from there. I even removed the files from the C:\Program
Data folder, then i went back to Programs
and Features and tried to remove the listing there, but I got a dialog box saying "you
don't have sufficient access to uninstall visual studio" . I googled this problem and found this  solution
    (http://superuser.com/a/174198)
then i tried using the solution, I used SubinAcl and
changed the registry permissions as mentioned in the solution and ended up like this!
All the access permissions are set correctly (that's what I can make out...)
    Please Help!

  • Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.

Hi, i'm a Windows 7 user of HP Pavilion dm4.
It has been weeks since iTunes works properly on my computer. I'm here to seek help from professionals or people who had encountered it before. Whenever I double-click on iTunes, it prompt me a message "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." But another thing is, i'm the only adminstrator on this laptop. If I don't have permission, who has? Sigh.
I had tried uninstalling and installing iTunes from official website many times but to no avail.

    Hi,
Also, please make sure your current user is a administrator account and have permission to open the file.
Right-click the file or folder, and then click Properties.
    Click the Security tab.
Under Group or User names, click your name to see the permissions you have.
Have you installed 3rd software in you computer? please turn off them temporarily to check if this issue still occurs.
Here is an article you can refer to.

  • "Windows cannot access the specified device....

So Itunes has been giving me trouble for about a week. I occurred multiple problems and was able to fix all of them except for this one. I am the admin, and i have tried "Run as administartor". But every time i click on Itunes i get this error...
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Itunes\Itunes.exe
Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.
    I need some help here...

I think something ghastly may have happened to the Access Control Lists (ACLs) on your system, Lebz. There's just too many permissions errors cropping up for this to be a happenstance thing.
Usually, when people suffer from something like this, we try using a batch file for the subinacl tool. Unfortunately, the relavant script we use is designed for 32-bit systems:
[Solving setup errors by using the SubInACL tool to repair file and registry permissions|http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archive/2006/09/04/solving-setup-err ors-by-using-the-subinacl-tool-to-repair-file-and-registry-permissions.aspx]
In addition to the advice given by Mr Stebner in the Comments to that blog entry:
Hi Dharamg - The reset.cmd script currently doesn't work on 64-bit operating systems. I can post a fix later, but in the meantime, all you need to do is change the item that says %ProgramFiles% to say %ProgramFiles(x86)% instead and then it should run correctly. The error you see about "subinacl is not recognized..." means that the full path listed for subinacl.exe in reset.cmd doesn't match the location that it is actually installed on your system.
... I think it's plausible that you might need to add another line granting permissions to the Program Files (x86) folder too. But I'm not sure about that.
So, perhaps it might be best to post a query at the blog there, asking if you need to do that or not.
