Cannot access iPad or other tablets presets when creating Alternate Layouts

I'm all for repurposing but here's what bugs me. Suppose I create a cover for some magazine. Next, I'd like to create an Alternate Layout to see how the design would look on a tablet device. Fair? Suppose the Cover size is standard letter size. When I launch the Create Alternate Layout command, the size menu only lists "print-based" formats like Tabloid or Legal or A4 and so on. Why, on earth, wouldn't the "Digital Publishing"-oriented size not be listed there? Like Surfacei or Pad or Android or Kindle or Xoom? I mean, what's the point of this command? I have no choice but to choose "Custom" and enter 1024 pixels by 768 pixels, for instance. Yet, when I'm done typing, InDesign CC immediately converts to some equivalent "inches", like 14 some odd inches by whatever? It is unable to retain my custom units? Why?
I'm curious to know what rule is applied to convert between these units systems at this point? Is it standard 72dpi? I can't figure this out.
Another thing that bugs me in Creating Alternate Layout is the business of Bleeds. Suppose again, in my Cover design, that I use the standard 0.25" bleed margins, how can I get rid of them in the Alternate Layouts I create? Suppose again for a tablet design? I have not found a way to tell InDesign about resetting the bleeds on that Alternate Layouts. The net effect is that, the generated alternate layout looks silly on screen, with its stupid red guides that extends all around the page.
So that's my question. Thank's.

"The assumption is that a document will either be used for Print or for Digital Publishing or for Web".
So, it is an either or proposition.
I probably have a fantasy or a grossly preconceived notion of what Alternate Layouts are all about.
But blame it on Terry White and the other "evangelists", in AdobeTV and Tutorial videos who position this feature with the very purpose of doing a Print to Web to Digital Publishing workflow. It a user *has* to chose, at the onset, the intent of a given document then, this feature, in my eyes, has limited value.
I confess I'm not knowledgeable in all of Adobe's new products, in particular those designed specifically to "port" content from one type of media to another, like from Print to Digital. It's entirely possible that Adobe already has a solution for this "problem", that many, in the print business face, day in day out. I gather that if InDesign was actually delivering on this functionality, maybe it would actually be cannibalizing Adobe's other products, that are specifically designed with this functionality in mind?
So, I won't say that this feature is broken but as far as allowing a true "purpose-independent" kind of workflow, we'll say that Alternate Layouts will allow "portability" within one kind of media or another, not accross various media types.
Thank's Steve, for your patient and kind help.

That sounds like you've engaged one of the automatic syncing options for your nano.
Plug the nano in, and go into the Device screen for the nano in itunes. Is "manually manage ..." unchecked? If so, check the box for it, and click okay. Disconnect and reconnect the nano. Is the content on the nano able to be selected in your iTunes now?

Apologies, I was looking at the wrong schematic for the Apple TV 1. There isn't a button. So lets try this instead...
Remove the power cord and wait 20 seconds.
Plug it back in and let it boot (Give it 10 minutes, it's being tempremental)
Try and navigate to the the advanced menu and do a factory restore
If that doesn't work then if you are using the white remote hold down the menu button for six seconds and release this should bring up a hidden menu which will allow you to access the advanced configuration settings.
Again, if this fails there isn't much to do than tap it with a hammer to see if that fixes it (hard to believe how many times that actually works. (No responsibility taken if it breaks!, but at least you'd have a good reason to buy Apple TV 3)

  • InDesign CC 2014 crashes when creating alternative layouts

InDesign CC 2014 crashes when creating alternative layouts. I successfully created alternative layouts in 3 documents, now I cannot create any at all, it just crashes the program.

I just taught a class using Alternative Layouts in InDesign CC 2014 without crashing.
Start by telling us what kind of computer and operating system you're running. Are you having any other problems in InDesign CC 2014? Have you try restoring your preferences?

  • Applications suddenly cannot access iPad 2's music library.

Apps running on the iPad 2 suddenly cannot access the music library. The music is on the iPad, I can access it through the iPod app just fine, but when attempting to create a playlist within an application that allows it, or trying to add music to an iMovie project for example, simply nothing happens.
I'm stumped, I did a hard reset and an extensive search online, but can't find any results.
Any help would be much appreciated, thanks much!

You may need to resort to restoring it to the factory settings.

  • Cannot access iPad Apps Screen

While playing solitaire on my iPad, the screen froze. Cannot access my Apps screen. Tried turning off and on. Siri is available, but no help. How can I retrieve my Apps Screen icons? Thanks

A reset may help. Tap and hold the Home button and the On/Off buttons for approximately 10-15 seconds, until the Apple logo reappears. When the logo appears, release both buttons.

no intersection between iPadiPhone and Java ..?CorrectThe blame is of course to be placed upon Apple and all their rules (yay lets all program Objective C and basically be forced to resort to low level C also, because I say so), and Google for basically ripping Java for their own purposes and thus breaking up what could have been a thing of beauty. Hopefully in a couple of years Dalvik will be as good as the JVM built into Java 5 :/

  • Cannot access gradient tools other than the default option.

I am using photoshop CS6 extended. I cannot access the alternative gradient tools and am wondering if the plug-in failed to download or if I have somehow disabled them in the preferences.

Select the gradient tool, then click on the gradient chip at the top left of the screen to open the Gradient Editor, or click on the little arrow next to the same gradient color chip to access a palette other gradients. To make a new gradient, etc., click the tiny icon in the upper right of that palette to get a drop-down menu.

  • Apple Applications cannot Access the Internet, Others can

I've owned my MacBook for about 1.5 years now and it's starting to have some stability issues. Daily hard-locks are becoming the norm. I suspect hard drive issues may be to blame. I have repaired permissions and verified and repaired the disk. That seemed to help for a little while, but this latest problem is throwing me for a loop...
Apple applications cannot access the Internet. Apple Mail (RSS, POP, ad IMAP), Safari, iTunes (PodCasts, iTunes Store), and Software Update all time out while trying to contact servers. Firefox, OpenVPN, command line SSH, ping, etc, all have no problems.
My next step is a reformat, but this week is a really inconvenient time for me to do a backup and restore and I'd love a quick-fix if there is one. Any suggestions?

Thanks. I just realized that is was serious user error. I forgot I had enabled Socks proxy in Internet connections a couple of days ago and that my Mac apps would still be using that while my other apps would not. Thanks!

  • My apple 5th gen ipod is connected to wifi but still cannot access safari and other websites..can some1 help me out?

my apple 5th gen ipod is connected to wifi but still cannot access safari, itunes and other websites. the ip address is not strtng wid 169 and i have reset the network settings also..can some one help me out

The 169 IP address mans it did not correctly negotiate with the router:
Does the iOS device connect to other networks? If yes that tend to indicate a problem with your network.
Does the iOS device see the network?
    Any error messages?
    Do other devices now connect?
Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on your router
.- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem and it does not connect to any networks make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Cannot access purchase on other devices

I recently purchased an album on iTunes, but I cannot download it on other devices associated with my apple id. I have checked and verified all of my devices are set up to receive automatic downloads. I have also gone in to the section of iTunes store where "check for available downloads" is, and I keep getting "all purchases have been download to this apple ID." I do not even see the album in the purchases section of my iTunes library on my other devices, it is only available on the original device I purchased it on. If I look in my account settings on all of my associated devices, the invoice is there that shows I bought it, and I don't even have the option to purchase it again. On my other devices on iTunes the songs and album are greyed out "purchased". All of my devices are all on the same version of iTunes as well

Same boat.  I am a little tired of seeing several shows in the TV Show "Purchased" part of the Apple TV.  I always run into some free shows I got, cause they were free or stuff like that, the shows turned out to be terrible and now I have to be reminded of them every time I want to watch anything else.  They really do need to find a way to manage it.  You should be able to remove it and sign a thing saying "yes I understand I can never download this again...bla bla"

  • Cannot access a disposed object that was just created.

    Here is my code:
    Imports System.Data.SqlClient
    Imports System.Diagnostics
    Imports System.IO
    Imports System.Threading
    Imports System.Text
    Imports System.Windows.Forms
    Module MigrationControl
    Dim FormBulkLoadFailed As MessagePlatform
    If runCommand(comSQL, cmdLoad, True) = -99 Then
'Informing user the Bulk Load failed.
    FormBulkLoadFailed = New MessagePlatform(11)
    FormBulkLoadFailed.ShowDialog()
    End
    End If
The FormBulkLoadFailed.ShowDialog() does nothing and the runtime properties says:
    Cannot access a disposed object.
    Object name: 'MessagePlatform'
How can something that was just created already be disposed?
    Thank you,
    Charlie

Does the MessagePlayform accept constructor accept an integer parameter?  You are passing an 11 to the form.  You probably have two constructors in the form.  The default with zero parameters and the one you are using with one parameter.
I suspect the constructor is closing the form before it is displayed.  Test for nothing like in the changes below
    Dim FormBulkLoadFailed As MessagePlatform
    If runCommand(comSQL, cmdLoad, True) = -99 Then
'Informing user the Bulk Load failed.
    FormBulkLoadFailed = New MessagePlatform(11)
if not FormBulkLoadFailed is nothing then
    FormBulkLoadFailed.ShowDialog()
    End
    End If

  • Cannot change Tracking to Primary and Secondary when creating Item

We are on Inventory Management 11.5.10.2 but not on WMS. We notice that we cannot track an item with a Secondary UOM when creating it. The only way to track is by
Primary UOM. Is this because we are not on WMS or are we hitting a bug?

As I know seconday UOM feature is used for Process Manufacturing installed customers. If you do not have that you may not be able to use that.
    Thanks
