Cannot open iPhoto after downloading Yosemite. I have upgraded to iPhoto 6.9 and have downloaded iPhoto upgrader 1.1 to no avail.

Did you go to your Applications/Utilities folder and actually double click on the updater to run it?

I have resolved this issue with the apple chat support by going to the "purchases" tab in the app store - where there was a message that I had to accept updates for the apps that wouldn't update.  Once I did this, signing in for each of them, they all updated just fine.

  • I purchased iPhoto after installing Yosemite, but App store shows the download is "waiting"

I purchased iPhoto after installing Yosemite, but App store shows the download is "waiting", with a greyed out box that says pause.

    Hi exyankee,
Thanks for the question. If I understand correctly, an app is stuck on waiting. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you isolate or resolve the issue.

  • All of my pictures are gone from iPhoto after installing Yosemite..how do i get them back?

I have tried everything to get my pictures back after installing Yosemite on my laptop. Are they gone? Or is there a way to retrieve them?

Define "everything" because if you've tried everything then your last recourse is:
1 - restore your backup copy of your iPhoto Library created just prior to your Yosemite upgrade or
2 - Starting over from scratch with new library
Start over with a new library and import the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from your original library as follows:
    1. Open the library package like this.
    2. Launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
    3. Drag the subfolders of the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from the open iPhoto Library package into the open iPhoto window a few at a time.
This will create a new library with the same Events (but not necessarily the same Event names) as the original library but will not keep the metadata, albums, books slideshows and other projects.
Note:  your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.

  • Could not open iPhoto after installing Yosemite.

Could not open iPhoto from dock or launch pad after installing Yosemite. Went into the iPhoto application in applications and clicked on MAC OS and then clicked on iPhoto.  iPhoto then opened but when I closed the exec window iPhoto closed.

Could not open iPhoto as a guest user.
Was able to open iPhoto in my account when I went to the application list, right clicked on the iPhoto application then chose Show Package Contents, then clicked on Contents and then clicked on MAC OS which then opened iPhoto.
This is the only way I have been able to open it.
    Thanks

  • I can't update iPhoto after installing yosemite

i can't update or open iPhoto after installing yosemite

Ok so here's what you gonna do. (had this problem myself today, and after some fiddling figured out what to do.)
Find your old iPhoto with a cross through it, right-click it and select 'show package contents'. A folder will open. In that folder go to Contents>MacOS and there will be three little things there. Click on the one called 'iPhoto' and terminal will open. Leave terminal open and wait four seconds and VOILA! iPhoto opens. Leave terminal open until you are finished with iPhoto, because if you close terminal, iPhoto will close with it. THX! ENJOY! Hope it works.
    P.S.
You can close terminal once you close iPhoto. I also suggest backing up your iPhoto library while you can.

  • Unable to update iPhoto after installing yosemite on iMac

recently installed yosemite OS, but cannot open iPhoto without update  and cannot find update.

Its been like this for 2 hours...
It may be hanging, because you are running out of storage - do you have at least 10GB of fee disk space?
Or something is interfering with your connection to the App Store - anti virus software, a firewall. If you have any such software running, restart yor mac in Safe Mode and try reinstalling in this mode:  Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode
If that does not help either, ask in the App Store forum.

  • Cannot open iPhoto after downloading yosemite

After downloading Yosemite, I could not open iPhoto.
    OSX Yosemite 10.10
    1. Click on iPhoto icon
    2. pop-up opens stating "To open your library with this version of iPhoto, it first needs to be prepared". I click "Learn more".
    3. Library Upgrader opens and I click on Download.
    4. I double click on the box icon in the new window.
    5.  "This tool prepares libraries from iPhoto 7 or earlier so they can be upgraded with the current version of iPhoto" opens in a new box. I click "continue"  and agree with the agreement.
    6. Click "install" in a new window and "install" again.
    7. "The installation was completed successfully" appears.
    8. I click on iPhoto icon and the process starts from the beginning.
I have tried this app. four times.

Locate your iPhoto library and then use the iPhoto 6 and later: Rebuilding the iPhoto library - Apple Support link for instructions and then test.
If you still have troubles reset both the SMC and PRAM 2-3 times back to back. You can find instructions for this by clicking iMac SMC and PRAM reset
Post back with the results after rebuilding your library and doing the resets if you need to.

  • Unable to access iPhoto after installing iLife 06

I installed iLife 06. After doing so, my iPhoto folder cannot be accessed. I get a message saying "There is a problem accessing 1 or more files in iPhoto library folder. In the Finder, select iPhoto library folder. Choose File >Get Info. Make sure you have read and write permissions for the folder and then apply this setting to all enclosed items." I have done this, but I still can't get it to open. Any ideas?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. That has happened to a number of users for some unknown reason. Try the following: download and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, substituting your account name for mine. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field. Good luck.

  • I cannot update iphoto after installing Mavericks

I updated to Mavericks and now the app store is saying I have an update for iphoto. I cannot get the update, I am getting this error message " failed to verify preflight file. It is not signed by apple".  Is there spmethign that I am missing? I tried to donload the update 9.4.3 and when I attempt to install the update I am getting a message that says iphoto has to be updated through the app store. Any ideas ?

I solved this problem from a post I read on another thread (can't remember how I got there).  Here are the steps that fixed it for me:
    Close App Store
Go to Keychain Access, Preferences, Certificates tab
Change the OCSP and CRL to "best attempt"
Exit Preferences and then Keychain access
Restart (this may not be necessary, but it the next step I took)
Launch App Store, Purchases, Click on the one that would not install before - good luck
For me, it was iPhoto and iMovie, but I later discovered that no app would download, even new ones from under "Featured".  I also updraded a Mac Pro last night with Mavericks and it did not have this problem.  In checking later, I discovered that these preferences were already set as described above.

  • Can't play videos on iPhoto after installing Yosemite, also getting JRE error. Are they related?

When I start Mac, I get following error regarding JRE requirement. I have updated JRE 8 from Oracle website, but I still get the same error. This has started after I updated to Yosemite.
Also when I click on video I get following error: "A necessary data reference could not be resolved." Hence am unable to play any videos.
Are these related, can someone help?
Do note that I have MacBook Pro (13-inch, Early 2011) with OS X Yosemite (10.10) and iPhoto 9.6.

I'd ask about the JRE issue on the Using Mac OS X forum.
The videos are not necessarily gone:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Cannot access store after installing version 6

    Folks,
Katrina has been kind enough to lead me through the basics of resolving my problem, and has referred me to this forum.
    The issue
When I attempt to access the music store in version 6, the progress bar freezes at about 90% and there is no further action. If I end the program, an iTunes process remains resident using every available CPU cycle. I had no trouble accessing the store with my previous version of iTunes.
    What I've done to diagnose/resolve
    - un-installed iTunes/Quicktime and re-installed (reboot in between)
    - un-installed just Quicktime and re-installed (reboot in between)
    - disabled all firewalls, virus scanners and antispyware software both during install and when running iTunes
    - used msconfig to disable processes and determined that with non-MS processes disabled this problem still occurs. The only processes running are alg, csrss, ctfmon, explorer, iTunes, lsass, services, smss, spoolsv, several instances of svchost, System, System Idle Process, qttask, taskmgr, vsmon (a ZoneAlarm process which cannot be stopped, but all ZoneAlarm functions were disabled), wdfmgr and winlogon.
    - confirmed with my ISP that they do nothing to filter/screen any data and they have have no reported issues with iTunes
    - my Internet connection works fine for all other functions, in and out of iTunes
    Data
XP Pro SP2 patched to 2-Jan-2006
    iTunes 6.0.1.3
    high-speed (500k) cable Internet connection
Thanks in advance for ideas that may help.
    Jon

Well, sounds like a network problem. I can get into
iTMS just dandy, so I don't suspect an iTunes server
    problem.
That might depend on how the servers are organized, are they geographic? I'd be surprised if Canadian customers weren't routed to a different server.
Report it to your cable provider. If you can connect
sometimes, your PC and the software are set up OK.
I'd say there's nothing to report to my cable provider, many other Internet services are running fast and with no problems (various browsers, Skype, MSN). 55ms average ping to Apple.com. 53ms to Apple.ca and iTunes.ca. Connection to many other sites is fast.
The cNet bandwidth test reports 500.6 kBps, which is what my ISP has my connection throttled to.
But even when I can sign on to iTunes the site is painfully slow in response.
So I don't think there's any problem with my internet connection.
I forget if you told me your PC is malware free?
That's the only other thing I can think of.
I have a variety of security software, and the last full spyware scan was today. Hopefully I don't have hidden malware installed surreptitiously by a music CD from a disreputable music company. But I'm thinking by now my security software (NOD32, Spysweeper, MS Anti-spyware, ZoneAlarm) would have cleaned that out.
    Good luck!
    Thanks!
    Jon

  • Cannot access iPhoto after Maverick upgrade

After upgrading to OSX 10.9.1, I am unable to access my photos. I get an error message stating that the photos are on a locked disk. It tries to repair teh access but top no avail. I can view my photos on my phone.

Your phone access to photos is strictly on your phone.   It sounds like you put your photos on another account, or an external hard drive that doesn't have the right permissions.  You could sync up the photos from your phone to your computer, but that requires these steps:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4252343
The Pictures folder should not be outside your Users -> yourname -> folder.  Otherwise iPhoto generally won't know where to find it, without a rebuild of the library.  If you did put it outside of there, command-option keys need to be held simultaneously while launching iPhoto, and locate the iPhoto Library xml file in the folder that has your library once it asks you to relocate the folder.
