Cannot access "old" sparsebundle" on time capsule

My Macbook Pro broke down. I got a back-up machine now while my mbp is away for repair. My old harddrive was put into this - but now I cannot access time machine backups on the time capsule. Instead time machine produces new sparsebundles but the old one appear not accessible - though they still show up in finder on the capsule.
I urgently need some files - how can I access the "old" sparsebundles/backups?

I really appreciate you guys taking your time trying to help here!!
On the sparsebundles: I can see them no problem in the finder when opening the time capsule - but they simply arent accessed by time machine
trying to repair the bundle right this minute - but I think my problem is not a corrupted file - but time machine not recognizing the file as back-up
If Disk Utility is able to repair it, the sparse bundle is probably good and will be recognized by Time Machine. If not, you're out of options.
(oh my god - am I explaining this correctly??? English after all is not my mother tongue so excuse any stuff that does not make sense, please)
You're doing fine -- better that many native English speakers!

  • Cannot access information on my time capsule

My time capsule/airport was humming along on my 27" MAC until I took it in for a recall.
I received a new hard drive and was able to restore my itunes and a few other files to the new hard drive.
One day I lost the ability to get anything from the backup. i only need my photos but it is impossible for me to get anywhere. I've tried to use the dates on the right. I've tried the arrow on the botton, and even clicking on each individual window.
Any and ALL suggestions are welcomed and I'm sure helpful.
    Thank you in advanced
    Lonnie

Apple Time Machine is notorious for needing to wipe the slate clean and purge all old backups.  Do you remember getting a Time Machine Failed Backup message and being asked to start a new backup?  If this happened you no longer have access to your old backups.  Time Machine is great for day to day backup, but really critical files like photos should also be backed up on an external USB hard drive.  If you are really missing your old photos I would stop accessing the hard drive and consult with a data recovery expert (not cheap) but with luck you should be able to restore your photos.  If you use Apple's Photo Stream you might also have access to them that way via iCloud and your Apple ID.  Best of luck.

  • Cannot access folders on my Time Capsule

I have been using my Time capsule for backups via Time Machine, but also as an external disk where I would manually drop some folders.
It has now started behaving crazy.
I can no longer access some of these folders I placed on it. They keep appearing and disappearing.
Difficult to explain, please take a look at the short YouTube video I created:
    https://youtu.be/1Vaupg6pfLs
I've tried restarting it, mounting it via WiFi and via ethernet cable, accessing it from my iPhone, nothing.
Can no longer open up these folders.
Any ideas what I could try?
    Or is my data lost?
    Thank you.

This is pretty standard behaviour from Yosemite. Did you just upgrade or did you install the latest patch of yosemite which triggered it.
You might find permissions are messed up. But fixing them on a network drive is not easy..
The usual way you get around these kind of things.. copy the files to a different location via command line in terminal. You log in as SU and you should be able to do it.. rsync is a very powerful tool and I have tried to help someone else with the commands. It works for me but I am not sure if the poster was successful.
Just google for the rsync commands.. they are fairly simple to do.. you can copy all the directories that are hidden now, once you login as SU.
Or use the built in archive of the airport utility.. to a USB drive.. then you can plug that drive into the computer and fix the permissions..
Sorry I cannot give you a simpler way to fix it.. if you have any apple care left ring apple support and check if they have some simple method.. I have not seen one come up around here yet.

  • Downloaded software update today - cannot access my 1 TB Time Capsule. Help

Thanks for the new software download! Now my iMac will not recognize Time Capsule, I lost my Internet connection - have gone back to my old WiFi.

At the risk of stating the obvious, I just DL'd the new version of software for TC from the Airport Utility. After about 3 minutes TC restarted, then I got a message there was a problem and that I should restart the Airport Utility and try again. I had now lost my connection to TC and had no internet connection. I restarted Airport Utility as instructed, and was told that no TC could be found. What I then realized was that the problem was that my network had not been selected. By pulling down the airport menu, I selected my network and all returned. Seems odd that the Airport Utility update routine wouldn't have done this.

  • Cannot Access Airport Disk on Time Capsule(Error Message 67)

Hi I'm having a few issues connecting to the Airport disk on my Time Capsule.
Every time I start my computer The Airport Base Station Agent says:"The Airport Disk "Nasim's Time Capsule" became available. What do you want to do? And I click "Connect with Password" I enter the correct password and I receive a message that says: "Unknown user, incorrect password, or login is disabled. Please retype the login information or contact the disk's administrator (67)."
Is this possible to fix?(I have reset it about 4 times, each time after I have set it up I try to connect ends up wit the same message)

    Welcome to the discussions!
There are 2 passwords for the Time Capsule
One is a device password, which allows access to the TC. The other password is for your wireless network.
Might you be confusing these two? If you have not setup a device password, I believe that the default is "public".
Post back if you need more info.

  • Cannot Access Corp VPN through Time Capsule Since Update

Since updating to version 7.6.1, I am no longer able to VPN to our corporate servers from home... from any device. We know its the Time Capsule because:
    1) Connecting the laptop directly into the Provider and not using the Time Capsule, VPN will then work
    2) Taking the iPad off of the Time Capsule wireless and having it on 3G allows VPN to work
FYI - we do not use any type of "ADSL/Cable" modem here since our building has Optical and there direct-to-provider LAN through the optical switch in the building cabinet.
Steps I have Taken: I have scoured through the settings to see what might have changed... and honestly nothing changed on my Time Capsule. I went ahead and did a full reset of the device and upon reset checked to see if I could connect to our VPN server but still could not. I am able to setup a L2TP and PPTP VPN server inside my home and I am able to access it remotely.
On thing that is interesting is that I can do a traceroute out the port and it does get out, so its not like its being blocked.... I am at a complete lost to what is going on. Anyone have any insight?

What type of vpn exactly does your corporate server use? I presume it is ipsec of some sort.
I think BTMM (reintroduced with Lion and iCloud and 7.61 firmware) uses ipsec somewhere in the process.. so it is very likely Apple allocated those ports to its own usage.. and really have a could not care less if ipsec now fails for anybody else.
A solution is to simply go back to 7.5.2 firmware.. which I take as being the last that worked mostly properly!!
Another solution is bridge the TC and get another router.
As for fixing the TC.. apple have a record of breaking vpn in firmware upgrades and fixing them at some future point.. but don't hold your breath.

  • Access to a external time capsule through my home time capsule

How can I access my parents timecapsule through my own at home?
I have no problems in accessing my own time capsule through for example the network at work (using Automator - and a quite old apple Airport/router).
But if I'm at home, and on the home network established through my own time cap, I can't get access to i.e. my parents time cap - again using Automator.
Also I can't get access to my own time capsule through my parents time capsule...
    WHY????
    ...and what can I do?
    The answer I get is:
The server may not be available or is not available right now. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again.

    If this is still actual:
The easiest and cheapest you can do is to connect your Macbook to your amplifier. There are several options for that. If your Macbook has optical out (in the headphone/line-out connector), use that for best quality. Otherwise, use a USB DAC or a Griffin iMic. Alternatively, get a DisplayPort to HDMI converter, and use one of your amplifiers HDMI inputs (in that case all you need is a nice external display or a projector and you have yourself the beginning of a home cinema).

  • How can I set up a guest access point with a Time Capsule and an Airport Extreme? I am using a Telus router with the Time Capsule used as a wireless access point (bridge mode). I don't want the guest access point to have access to my network.

How can I set up a guest access point with a Time Capsule and an Airport Extreme? I am using a Telus router with the Time Capsule used as a wireless access point (bridge mode). I don't want the guest access point to have access to my network.

The Guest Network function of the Time Capsule and AirPort Extreme cannot be enabled when the device is in Bridge Mode. Unfortunately, with another router...the Telus...upstream on your network, Bridge Mode is indicated as the correct setting for all other routers on the network.
If you can replace the Telus gateway with a simple modem (that performs no routing functions), you should be able to configure either the Time Capsule or the AirPort Extreme....whichever is connected to the modem....to provide a Guest Network.

  • TS2706 I cannot connect to my airport (time capsule) from a Windows PC

Any information on how to connect to an aiport extreme (really the time capsule) from a Windows platform. Have no problem from our Mac's but cannot connect from a windows based platform.  I haven't been able to find any recent posts to help with this problem.

First off, Archon23, what you want to achieve is possible.  I have access to both my Time Capsule (TC) and the USB drive connected to it, from a Win. 7 and Win. XP machine.
Here is what I see from the Windows side of things:
From My Computer - TC USB Drive (Y)
From Windows HomeNet - Time Capsule:
Now getting there is the trick.
One caveat before proceeding:  I am not well versed in Windows Networks, Windows Sharing and Firewall settings so some of the following may not be elegant, may not be absolutely required, and may not be the best way of getting there.  But it is what I did to see both the TC drive and it's attached USB  drive on the Windows side of my network..
1.) First, I added Airport Utility to the Inbound rules of Win 7 Firewall
While poking around my Network Sharing and Firewall settings trying to figure this out, I got a Pop-up recommending I do that.  AND I did that. Oh, and while you are at it, make sure you have a Home network established.
2.) Next, on a hunch, I installed a USB Wi-Fi Adapter (under $20) to my Win PC, enabled that Wi-Fi connection and disabled my Ethernet connection.  I was getting no where on this matter with my Ethernet connection to a DSL Gateway.  But with a Wi-Fi connection to my AirPort Express Base Station, I made progress.
3.) Finally, while poking around my Network Sharing Center some more, one by one I started the various network device Setup Wizards in there, and Trouble Shooters, to find the elusive TC/USB devices in question...AND voila, it worked.   And it's stable, been this way for going on two weeks now.
    Good luck.

  • Can i access my data on time capsule from some other network

can i access my data on time capsule from some other network that is my data at home from office over internet

There is plenty of info out there if you google..
Here is a summary I just put into another thread.
Remote access has been added back into iCloud that was in MobileMe..
Read the info on setting it up from cloud service.. BTMM.
    http://www.apple.com/support/icloud/back-to-my-mac/
If you want to do it without the cloud service, you have one major issue.. the public IP for WAN..
The internal IP of the TC.. which will default to 10.0.1.1 btw.. is irrelevant. It is the IP of the WAN which you use to access the TC over the internet. And here you have a problem.. the TC does not include dyndns service. So unless you have a static IP address from your ISP, this will cause you grief.
(If it is offered by your ISP.. get a static IP.. that eliminates all the issues.. and is far superior. Even dyndns service has issues if your public IP rotates too often. It is generally an extra cost item and requires a business account but some ISP offer it cheap or even free.. I joined an ISP that offered static ip for free because it gives me the ability to remote access my network without all the hassles you will see below.)
There are ways around it.. setting up your own domain for instance.
    http://dyn.com/support/airport-time-capsule-with-dynamic-dns/
But it is easier to simply use a different router.. almost all of them have dyndns service available.. place the TC behind the router in bridge and forward port 548 TCP to it.
This is a bit old but still relevant.
    http://gigaom.com/apple/access-your-time-capsule-over-the-internet/
Note .. there is no ftp, http, ssh (there is actually but it isn't accessible), or any other service to allow connection other than AFP.. so you must use a Mac in remote location to access the TC.
The setup for the two methods is slightly different in the TC.. in the first instance, you need to turn on WAN access via disk sharing page in the manual setup.
In the second case you do not need this.
Remember security and put strong passwords on the disk. There are still security questions about this.
If security is important.. there is a third and better (IMO) method and that is vpn.. you will need to buy a vpn router as TC also missed out on that.. establish a vpn with the main router and that will allow you access to your network.. you will also then be able to use SMB remotely not just AFP.
Also if this office is a large company they should be running a firewall, which would block your access to home. You should check your IT admin people for what is allowed.. generally the only acceptable method is vpn otherwise you can drag viruses and trojans right into the network without the firewall catching them.

  • How to transfer backup file from old to new time capsule?

I'm having trouble copying the backup from my old to new time capsule.  I tried using this http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5097?viewlocale=en_US

You need to point out at which point you are failing.
You do need the two TC plugged into each other by ethernet.. do not even dream of doing this over wireless. So a computer is plugged into the primary TC as well.. the secondary TC is in bridge mode.. you then simply copy and paste the sparsebundle from one TC to the next.
IMHO this is not a good idea.. you are much better starting a new set of TM backups on the new TC.. keep the old TC for a few weeks to make sure there is nothing you need to recover then wipe it.
There are also instructions in pondini if you insist on doing it.
    Transfer TM backups..
    Apple doco. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5097
    Pondini doco http://pondini.org/TM/18.html
The apple doco you have already tried.

  • Access files stored in Time Capsule via iCloud

how to access files stored in Time Capsule via iCloud

Yes, you can remotely access files in the TC..
Did you read the apple instructions and do them??
    http://www.apple.com/au/support/icloud/back-to-my-mac/
It does depend on the main router being upnp or NAT-PMP capable.. so the best is if the TC is the main router.. otherwise you may have to manually forward the ports.

You might consider restoring to factory specs, as detailed in the booklet that shipped witht the machine, using the Setup Assistant on first boot, and then reinstalling those new programs. i've not moved pictures, so you could always give that a shot.
