Cannot access recovery mode - N

Just as the title says. Player will spuradically turn on and play but usually will not, in fact it rarely will play. And when it does, if I shut it off and try to turn it back on, it will not. However if I plug the player into the computer without holding the power button it will always work, with or without the battery. If I hold the power button while connecting the unit it will do nothing(I've held it for a full minute even)until I release it, and then it just comes up as a mass storage device. No new hardware, nothing. I've tried on the 4 desktop stations running various Windows versions and my one laptop and they all produce the same results. So basically I have a "thumb dri've" that requires a cable.
Any ideas? It seems there have been quite a few problems with the N200's and them acting a bit odd. And it also seems like they forgot recovery mode on my player unless there is something I am doing wrong.

drasticdesignz,
If recovery mode has been done before in the system, the new hardware wizard will not be prompting again. You can check this by having the player enter recovery mode via the usual steps and then go to device manager and see if the player are in recovery mode or Mass storage device mode.

  • Can't access Recovery Mode on old Mac

I've had an old Mac lying around unused for the last few years.
It is currently running (from "About this Mac")
    OS X version 10.5.8
    Dual 1.3 GHz PowerPC G4
2 MB L3 cache per processor
    768 MB SDRAM
    It's a Power Mac G4
I want to completely wipe this computer so it's in absolute factory settings with nothing left behind by me, so I can sell it for a small price and possibly take a couple of parts for a build I'm thinking about.
I Tried the Restart, Command + R method of accessing Recovery Mode multiple times with no success. It takes around 30 seconds to boot each time so I'm not missing the "window" to do it, I think. (I beggin the Key Combo when I hear the chime)
i don't have any disks for this computer as it was pre-owned, at least 5 years ago, from a guy I've lost touch with. I don't want to back up any files.
can anyone help me reset this dusty old calculator?

    Man in despair,
The pre-2006 PowerMacs this foru serves cannot run OS 10.6.8. What Mac to you have? We can get you moved to the proper forum for your Mac.
Never be hesitant to start a new thread. When you tag onto another, especially one like this that appears to be about a different Mac model, you dilute the help the original poster deserves. It is also confusing to the rest of use and some very knowlegeable helpers here will not respond to a tag-on (also known as a "thread-jack.")
So fast help require you to make a new thread in teh forum that matches you Mac model.

  • My admin login password was recently changed but I forgot it. I didn't get to shut off my mac, it entered sleep so now I cannot enter recovery mode.

I know it's a bad idea to change passwords when you're stressed but I changed my admin login password and promptly forgot it after 5 minutes (there was a big commotion in the background). The problem is that now I cannot enter recovery mode, I'm stuck with the user login screen. I can log in as a guest just fine, but I need access to my files on the Admin account.
Lastly, I also haven't linked my Apple ID to my AirBook, so that is out of the question too. What can I do to gain back control over my admin account, without wiping all my data? - Currently running OSX 10.9.4

Once I get into recovery mode, do I go through the migration set up process? Should I be logged out of my account on the old macbook before I set up the new one? I really thought I knew what I was doing but am seriously confused now.
    Thank you.

  • Player frozen & cannot access recovery mo

Hi there,This is the second time my Zen sleek photo has frozen. The first time the PC would not recognise the player when docked but recovery mode worked & i got it going again. This time it does'nt allow me to access recovery mode (frozen screen comes up) but player is recognised by PC when docked. I have reinstalled firmware & reformatted using media explorer but all to no avail. Is there any options left rather than a return to base Thanks,Lenny.

  • Accessing recovery mode with no power

Sorry if this has been posted before, but I can't find the answer in the forums.
I know how to enter recovery mode when I have power on my Creative V Plus, but how do I do it without power? I can't charge the player because it automatically enters rebuilding library mode and freezes. I can't enter recovery mode when the player is connected to the PC. Help!

Accessing recovery mode with no power; Your battery will need to be charged in order for you use the the functions in the recovery mode. A wall charger would solve that & you will not need it to be connected to the computer. The wall charger for the Zen Micro,Micro Photo,Zen are ok to use with it.http://cgi.ebay.com/CREATIVE-AC-Wall...em300300546789

  • Accessing Recovery Mode: Zen Vision M

I'm trying to access the recovery mode on my Zen Vision M (I'm experiencing the 'player not detected' syndrome). I followed the instructions by holding the power button toward the power symbol, and then gently poking a paper clip into the little reset hole at the bottom. The instructions say to do this til the creative logo appears, but it doesnt--the screen just stays blank. Am I not waiting long enough? I didnt think it would take much time. The battery level is at about 50%--should I recharge it all the way first?
Thanx for any and all help!!

I checked the device manager and the following message is what I get:
Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 9)
Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available.
I did the check for solutions but nothing came up

  • 3.1.2 Update Failure. Cannot escape recovery mode

I attempted to update my 3GS to 3.1.2 today but the installation failed and forced recovery mode (connect to itunes/usb screen).
I am running windows itunes 9.0.1.8 x64. I have uninstalled the drivers but windows cannot find the two drivers required, "No Driver Found". I have attempted to use the driver C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers\usbaapl64.inf but to no success. It seems to install but returns error "This device cannot start (code 10)".
I have reset the phone, restarted my computer, reinstalled itunes, cleared reg and more.
    Any help is much appreciated.
    Thanks

Hey I had this happen and found the fix, though admittedly some people may not be able to use it: I restored it on my other computer with an older version of the firmware. I don't know why but the firmware download seems to be screwing up the restore. Find a friend with an older version and make sure they don't upgrade, then use their PC to restore it. This is a common problem that Apple is denying, took it to the store and they couldn't get it working. IT seems to be very hit or miss, the guy in front of me could get his restored (his was a 3Gs, mine is 3G). I don't know if there is a way to uninstall the update, maybe go digging through your computer under the itunes files for downloads and delete it. Good luck!

  • Why can't I access recovery mode?

My iMac (2010, i3, 10.8.2) began running sluggishly last night. My sone turned it off and now I can't even boot into recovery mode. I have the Apple logo and the loading circle showing. Earlier attempts to access internet recovery and recovery resulted in a frozen screen. I'm beginning to think the hard drive is shot, even though I hear it spinning.

You didn't state how your attempting to boot into Recovery mode, if you haven't tried the following then please do:
When you hear the start up tone, hold down the OPTION key until you can choose the Recovery Partition. If your system can't see it then there is a fair chance  you have a damaged HD. Do you happen to also run MS Windows on your machine in Boot Camp, if so then you may have another issue and will need to post in the Boot Camp forum.

  • Computer boots normally but cannot access recovery

Currently runing OS X Mavericks on a 2011 MacBook Pro
I was unable to complete a Windows 7 bootcamp and was left with a paritioned harddrive after removing Windows 7 through disk utility. When I attempt to repartition the hardrive back to its original state also through disk utility, it comes up with the error "Partition failed with the error 'Couldn't unmount disk'".
Now I'm trying to do the partition through recovery, and whenever I try to access Recovery or Internet Recovery through Command + R and Command + Option + R respectively, my computer shuts down after the apple startup logo. The same for when I hold option during startup and manually choose the recovery option.
Using terminal, I am able to determine I have the following disks on my harddrive:
    /dev/disk0
       #:                       TYPE NAME                    SIZE       IDENTIFIER
       0:      GUID_partition_scheme                        *320.1 GB   disk0
       1:                        EFI EFI                     209.7 MB   disk0s1
       2:                  Apple_HFS Macintosh HD            264.2 GB   disk0s2
       3:                 Apple_Boot Recovery HD             650.0 MB   disk0s3
No CoreStorage logical volume groups found
Any idea how to get to recovery or partition my harddrive back to full capacity?
    Thanks.

    epw2,
log in as your administrative user and try the following command in Terminal:
    diskutil verifyDisk disk0
Does that command report any errors? If so, follow it with
    diskutil repairDisk disk0
After completing these commands, does trying to boot into Recovery mode still shut down after displaying the Apple logo?

  • IMac 7,1 running 10.5.8 can not access recovery mode, during update to 10.6.8 kernel panic

    Good day everybody.
I'm facing next issue. Having iMac v.7,1 running 10.5.8. EFI and SMC firmware update is done.
Trying to update to 10.6.8 thru bootable USB drive. After rebooting showing kernel panic. Made Apple Hardware Test (long one, took around 90 mins) no issues found. Trying booting in Single User Mode, showing "0x7" error.
My attempts to boot in Recovery Mode (cmd+r) completely ignored. Im not sure if there is one.
I tried to Boot in Recovery Mode via Bootable USB with 10.6.8 on it, holding "option" (alt) button, two scenarios, other complete ignore and keep booting to login screen OR again same Kernel Panic.
    Guys need some help.
Im ready to change parts, but no idea was that HD or RAM or whatever else.
    Some photos attached.
    Thanks to everybody in advance.

Recovery mode is only available in Lion (10.7) and later OSs. You can only upgrade to Snow Leopard by booting with an SL disc. You can get it from http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    27" i7 iMac (Mid 2011) refurb, OS X Mavericks (10.9.4), ML & SL, G4 450 MP w/Leopard, 9.2.2

  • Cannot exit recovery mode

Moved the AppleTV with 3.01 to use with another TV, but now it won't start anymore. It always goes to Recovery Mode after letting me choose language and resolution. Factory restore doesn't work, and the middle option says nothing's wrong. What shall I do?

remove all cables and leave them disconnected for 5 minutes.
connect and try a factory restore again.

  • Portege M200 - Cannot access recovery console

    Hi,
Yesterday my anti-virus software let me know a virus was trying to access my computer, had quarantined it and asked for a reboot of my Portege M200 to remove it completely. On rebooting, the notebook did not actually reboot and just hung. It gets past the Toshiba window and hangs. I have tried starting it in safe mode but to no avail. It starts loading files and hangs at a particular system file which is obviously now corrupt. I tried to get into my recovery console using Windows XP recovery disks but was unable to do so. The threads on this forum have been helpful however I have still not solved the issue.
I have my product recovery DVD-ROM but I am scared to use it as the warning coming with it says that reformatting will lose all of my work and I am not sure if it will automatically reformat my hard drive (as I have no back ups of my work) or will I be given a choice? Also, I see from your forums that it will not actually repair any corrupt OS files. I have also seen files about making a ghost image to a floppy drive but I do not have a floppy drive on my Portege M200.
Can anyone please provide me with steps to solve this issue as I am 11 hours trying to fix this but to no avail!
    Thanks

Moment. In my last posting I wrote about Microsoft WXP installation discs and not Toshiba recovery discs. There is a big difference.
Using Toshiba recovery disc you will not have repair option just option for clean OS installation (recovery image).
Anyway, to start bootable disc you can try to use old good method with C button. Start your notebook with bootable disc in ODD and when you see Toshiba welcome screen press C button several times. That should force ODD to start as first bootable device.
You can also start with F12 to enter boot menu.
    Check both options.

  • Re: Equium P300-P6T - dual boot, need to reinstall but cannot access recovery

    Hi
Have got a friends EQUIUM P300-P6T that he would like me to fix but having problems recovering.
He currently has windows 7 and WXP installed on separate partitions so can choose which OS to boot when loading. The factory for the laptop is Vista but he has replaced that with 7.
However, some of the booting files in Vista have become corrupt and cannot be fixed by the windows recovery so looks like a new install of Vista is needed.
This should not seem a problem but:
    a) I tried holding 0 down as I switch on to access the recovery partition (which does still exist as I can see it there from within computer management if I load xp) but it does nothing so I cannot recover from the recovery partition.
    b) I tried reinstalling Vista onto that partition using a vista OEM disc however, where it it gets to the stage of "completing install" the progress bar stays the same place forever about 3/4 of the way through as though it has crashed.
    c) I did manage to get an install of windows 7 on it however when I loaded it, it would not recognise the keyboard or touchpad (even though no problem with the drivers for each) yet the cursor could be moved with a USB mouse plugged in. Also, the boot partition now gave a choice of "xp, vista, older windows installations".
I have now put the computer back to the original state it was in for the time being. However, the route I would like to go down is to use the recovery partition to restore Vista and the factory settings on that particular partition.
Does anyone have any ideas how I can do this or what my best solution is? Like I say, holding 0 down whilst booting has no effect yet the recovery partition is still existent on the hard drive.
Unfortunately there are no recovery media that I have access to.
    Thanks

    Hi
The whole story is very interesting and I would like to help somehow. Your posting is pretty long with very useful information but, if I understand you right, you just want to install original Vista recovery image. Can you confirm this?
If you have more questions please ask one by one and then we can answer them one by one.
Anyway, if your answer is YES here is my explanation:
Recovery image saved on HDD can be used with factory settings only. With other words: when original recovery image is installed you will have full access to this recovery image. In case that some other OS is installed (Win7 or WXP) this original state will be overwritten and you will lose this recovery option ( HDD recovery installation ). Only way ti have factory settings again is to use recovery DVD disc. If your friend didnt create this disc (ignoring Toshibas recommendation) than you have big problem now.
Please tell us one more time what are your options now. what do you want to do now?
