Cannot Access Satellite C50-A-1G6 Boot Menu

Hello,
I have a Satellite C50-A-1G6 that originally came with Windows 8.1. I had successfully disabled UEFI and Secure boot to install Windows 7 in legacy boot mode.
However, I now want to upgrade to Windows 8.1 again, but I cannot access the boot menu or BIOS anymore, I have tried all the F-keys, either with or without holding Fn, to no avail. The laptop shows a blinking cursor for one second before proceeding to boot from the hard drive. Trying to boot from USB or CD/DVD as-is does not work, either.
To summarize, the laptop is currently not in UEFI mode, it's booting Windows 7 in legacy mode, I intend to install Windows 8.1 in legacy boot mode, but cannot access the boot menu, or boot the laptop from USB or CD/DVD.
Any help on this issue is much appreciated.
Greetings,
Rick

Managed to find a solution to my own problem, I've outlined it below for anyone else that's running into the same situation.
The problem is that the laptop is set to "Fast Boot", in which it apparently disregards the boot order and will only accept the HDD as a valid boot device. You cannot enter the BIOS at this point, you will need a small tool called "Toshiba System Settings Utility", I got it from http://support1.toshiba-tro.de/tedd-...0127165632.zip.
Once you have installed the utility, open it, and go to Boot Options, set USB as the first boot option, then scroll down and set the Boot Speed to Normal. It should look like this:
After that, you'll be able to enter BIOS/Boot USB or DVD.
Best regards,
Rick

  • Satellite C50-A634 wont boot from USB or DVD

My new toshiba Satellite C50-A634 wont boot from usb, or dvd ,
i have downloaded win 8.1 and burn image to dvd but i still get an error message "no bootable device......please restart system" .
    Can some one plz help?

    Hi
Does Satellite C50-A634 supports internal CD/DVD drive or did you try to boot from external optical disk drive?
You have to know that _Satellite C50 & Satellite C50D models *without* a built-in ODD_ are not able to boot from an external ODD due to a technical limitation.
    Details here:
[Limitation of external boot media for Satellite, Satellite Pro C50 & C50D devices|http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB3B03JA0000R01.htm]
Only USB flash drives are supported as external boot devices!
It is necessary you can use a USB flash drive as recovery media on notebooks without a built-in ODD.

  • Satellite C50-A-1G6 doesn't start

My Satellite C50-A (6 months old) doesn't start up at all.
With the power adapter attached, a white light is on. When I push the powerbutton, it turns white for a second together with a second white light in front, next to the power light.
The computer tries to start and I can hear a click sound and immediately the light of the powerbutton and second light on the front turn off. After 6 seconds both lights turn on again for a second (a click sound is heared) and the lights turn off again, etc.
I tried to remove the battery and power adapter and waited for some time and tried it again, without battery and with battery.
This is my second Satellite C50-A-1G6....
The first died in a when it was a few days old, with a non functioning black display and I got a new one... this one that seems to be dead too.

On this virtual way it is not easy to say why this happen. I have similar problem on my older machine when I use standby or hibernation mode. Notebook tries to start but make click sound, goes off and try to restart. I can stop this just if notebook has no any power supply anymore.
After connecting Ac power supply machine starts properly and everything is OK again.
To be honest I don't know why this happen.
In your case best thing you can do is to contact your local dealer or Toshiba service directly and ask for help. The warranty is still valid so you must not pay for any kind of repair.
My machine is old and I don't want to spend any money for repair?

  • Cannot Access Time Capsule Disk from Boot Camp

    Hi,
I've set up a Time Capsule and I've been able to read and write from:
    1) My MacBook Pro and another MacBook
    2) A Windows XP (SP3) PC connected by Ethernet
3 )A Dell Laptop running Windows XP (wirelessly)
I can copy files to and from the disk and perform Time Machine Backups (on the Macs).
However, I have not been able to even connect to the disk (but I can use the internet normally) on the Time Capsule on my MacBook Pro Boot Camp Windows XP SP3. I can connect wirelessly and surf the net on the 5 Ghz (and 2.4 Ghz) (non-public/Guest Shared) network. (The password I entered to access the disk are the same on all machines listed, which was not confused with the Network Password) Does anyone face such a problem or know the cause/fix?
    Thank You in advance.

I use FileBrowser app. It works. Their latest version is much easier to configure than earlier versions. You need to turn file sharing on and SMB on your time capsule disk.
I use the time capsule disk to store a few files which I never want to be on my iPhone or iPad, but do want access to them. They are not backed up on the time capsule but since they also exist on my Mac, they are backed up from there.

  • U300s: Cannot access BIOS to change boot order

I was dual booting Windows 8.1 Update and Ubnutu 14.04
From the windows disk manager I deleted all Ubuntu partitions and rebooted my notebook. I was immediatlly present with the grub rescue promt. Normally this is a quick and easy fix, by booting a windows USB/CD and repairing the windows MBR.
My problem is I can't access the bios or the boot menu to change the boot order. Nothing I've tried has let me get into the bios to set my USB stick as the first boot option.
Using the small recovery key button on the side of the notebook which normally boots the notebook to the screen where you can choose which drive to boot does the same as the power button. There is no bios flash screen or abililty to press any keys before getting to the grub screen.
I've drained the battery and left over night hoping this would reset the state it seems to be stuck in but that also did nothing.
Here is a short video showing what happens when I boot the notebook http://youtu.be/2FpC2Deuawk

I think the problem is in deleting Ubuntu. According to this video after the deletion of the Ubuntu partitions they must be combined back to the Windows partition.

  • Satellite C50-A-1DV - Cannot boot from USB

    Satellite C50-A-1DV PSCG6E-08P01CEN
I could previously boot from USB by selecting Secure boot to off and CSM boot in the system bios. Since I have upgraded my bios from 1.3 to 1.4 I can't seem to boot from a USB drive. I can boot from the CD but not USB.
    Any Ideas?
    Booji

    hello
if you want install os in laptop then you should have to change the boot mode in BIOS menu.
for win 7 select the CSM boot mode
for win 8 select the UEFI boot mode
then boot by the pen drive and also CD/DVD.
Restart the system and hold the F2 key then you get your BIOS setup
if not get the BIOS setup by the process then you should tried power drainage.
Power Drainage process: just remove the battery and adapter of the laptop then hold the power key for 30 sec
after that connect adapter of the laptop then turn on system.
    Try it...:)

  • How to enter BIOS and boot menu on Satellite C50-A-1GZ?

    Hi,
that is, how can I start the BIOS and the boot menu of my Toshiba C50-A-1GZ?
    Thank you

    Hi
At first you must perform complete shutdown. How to do this you can read on http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB2B03EY0002R01.htm
Restart your notebook and press F12. There you should find setup options for BIOS settings.

  • Cannot access boot menu/ThinkVantage setup/boot from DVD

So I am trying to install W7 from an external DVD drive but I am not able to
    a) Access the boot menu: Immediately after I power on the notebook, the computer boots into Win 8. There is no message displayed "Press enter to interrup booting" (or similar), but the loading-throbbler is shown directly. Other keys don't work either (F1, DEL, F12,...)
    b) Boot from DVD
    c) Access the "ThinkVantage Setup": The manual says I have to enter ThinkVantage Setup and select to install Win 7 there, but I can't find such tool on the computer.

This is from memory, hopefully it's close:
Within Win 8, bring up the charms bar.   Then Settings.  At the bottom is "Change PC Settings" it looks like a title, but it is a link.  Click it.  Select "General" on the left.  Then scroll down the right panel to "Advanced Startup"  select "Restart Now".
Here's where  my memory is a little hazy: either "continue" or "turn off your PC".  On restart you should be able to hit ENTER (or whatever key it is on your machine) to get to BIOS.
You may need to disable Secure Boot and change the boot mode to Legacy or UEFI + Legacy to boot your DVD.
My understanding is that since Win 8 actually hibernates instead of doing a full shutdown as the default, access to BIOS and boot options is disabled.  It's necessary to force a full shutdown before BIOS and boot options can be safely accessed.

  • Lenovo U310 cannot access bios or boot menu

OK so I'm not dumb, and consider myself pretty tech-savvy.
I've got Windows 8.1 I've installed myself on the SSD.
I've tried using novo key, f2, f12, b, also windows reboot-to-bios feature, nothing works.
When using novo key, and selecting setup or boot menu, it just boots to win 8.1 anyway.
Now, I can't reflash the bios, because I'm on the newest version, and the flasher throws error 182 (bios already equal or higher version).
What do I do now to reflash the BIOS, and thus allow me to access the setup/boot menu?

Other folks have had similar problems with the U310 and SSD  Here is the link to that discussion in case you had missed it.....

which security settings did you try to alter? Do you have a USB mouse that you could use in place of your non-operating trackpad?

  • Satellite Pro M70-220 - how to start Advanced Boot Menu

What key must I press on my Satellite Pro M70-220 during startup of Win XP, in order to get into the "Advanced Start Menu" - that is, the menu that gives various boot options, such as Safe Mode, Last Good Startup Congiguration, Normal Windows Startup, etc. ?
On my old Satellite 5105-S702 laptop it was the F8 key, but pressing the F8 key on my Pro M70 does not appear to bring up the "Advanced Start Menu".
The Advanced Start Menu came up on its own a couple days ago, after an abnormal shutdown, so it would appear that it does exist on the Pro M70.
Thanks for any advice anyone can offer.
    AlanCB

    Hi
The Advanced Boot Menu can be reached pressing the F8 button.
Its a Windows based menu and its no matter what notebook it is.
It should work on all computers.
Maybe you cannot enable the Advanced Boot Menu because the Windows OS is muddled up.

  • Unable to access boot menu - P875-S7310

This does not work. I have tried the other fn keys which also don't work. they work fine in Windows.

the UEFI and only accessible from windows PC settings.
Not so. By default, Windows 8 does not shut down completely. It hibernates the kernel (so that startup if faster).  When restoring from hibernation, It doesn't check for the F2 key.
You can shut down completely by depressing the Shift key when you click Shut down. Restart shuts down completely (so that system files can be changed).

M new unit does not show the menu on bootup.
So i cannot access my files

    Hi
Are you able to set the Stor.E TV to default (factory) settigns?
    Choose:
Setup -> General Setup -> Default
But if you do not see even this point then I assume that this Store TV does not boot anymore and this might be related to a hardware malfunction :(

My laptop does not have a disk drive, an it still says the hard disk drive is available, but when i go to the boot menu it does not give me the hdd recovery option. Please help me out fixing this problem. I have even tried f2 and stilll nothing. Please reply back with some answers

    f12 to reach the recovery.
No boot device can mean a bad hard drive or did something get changed in the bios? f2 to reach bios and set to the defaults.
