Cannot access the general tab under tools options menu

I am using Firefox 3.6.12 . I wanted to change my home page. I go to the tolls menu, options sub-menu, but i can access all the tabs except the General tab. I am concerned there might be some other program preventing me from changing my options. Please help!!!

Default theme is enabled?
Do you have that problem when running in the Firefox SafeMode? <br />

  • I cannot access the "General" tab in Options.

    I recently received a browser highjack due to a sketchy program recommended by a friend. (Last time I listen to them.)
    I uninstalled the program but and restored my search engine, homepage, newtab page, and all that. (Some through the options, some through about:config)
    I uninstalled the program, removed all traces I could find through the registry. I even ran a anti-malware program.
    However, when I go into the Options menu in Firefox, my "General" tab does not load at all. All of the other work fine, but this one does not. I assume this was a thing the malware did to avoid me changing my preferences, but since I changed them all already through other means, I am mostly annoyed. (At least I think I changed everything back. I ''would'' check, but... y'know.)
    So is there any way to abilitate this option? Or will I be forced to always wonder if I got everything back to normal?

    I was suffering the same problem and found that disabling Ghostery corrected the problem. I cannot really see myself surfing the web without Ghostery though, so instead I went to Add-ons/Appearance to see if I was using a theme which maybe was contributing. I was still using theme FF came with (Default) and decided to try installing a theme to see if it would correct the problem and lo and behold it did. The theme I went with was Lava Fox V2.
    I then tried going back to the default theme and the problem re-appeared. So back to Lava Fox for me then. The previous answers helped by pointing me in the right direction so thanks to all.

    Have you tried to go here and select your Gateway, then follow the trouble shooting tips. Most gateways/routers default passwords at one point were changed to the serial number for security reasons. If that does not work, you may try resetting the gateway/router to get back to the default. Never leave your gateway/router with the default passwords. If you get into the gateway/router a Verizon firmware upgrade if it is a Verizon model, may even change the default password to the serial number so it is not the standard D-Link that is used with all their gateways.

    why is it that when trying to use a back up of my old iphone i click on devices and the options are all frey scaled? I cannot access the restore and back upo options

    Let me start with the general advise...
    When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
    (1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
    Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.
    Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:
    orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced
    On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"
    If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.
    (2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site, try either:
    * right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
    * Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
    In the dialog that opens, you can remove the site's cookies individually.
    Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

  • I cannot access the Content tab to enable or disable popups/popunders

    when I click on TOOLS, then OPTIONS, clicking on the CONTENT tab does nothing. There is a capital J and capital S on top of the CONTENT tab, but don't know what they mean.

    Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
    If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
    * Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

  • When I click tools/options I cannot access the privacy tab. all other tabs work. How do I access the privacy tab

    No further details required as the question as I've stated it seems clear

    Try the Firefox SafeMode. <br />
    ''A troubleshooting mode, which disables most Add-ons.'' <br />
    ''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default Theme.)''
    # You can open the Firefox 4/5/6/7 SafeMode by holding the '''Shft''' key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    # Or use the Help menu item, click on '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' while Firefox is running. <br />
    ''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the Firefox shortcut (without the Shft key) to open it again.''
    If it is good in the Firefox SafeMode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. <br />

  • Why does my Firefox slow down when I click on the "Advanced" tab in Tools Options?

    I click on "continue" then I and wait for a few more seconds till i'm at the "advanced" section.

    Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    See:
    * [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]
    If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.

  • Scheduled Task to run as Local System cannot access the Netlogon Share in Windows 8.1

    I've created a Scheduled Task that is setup to run as the local System Account which uses cscript.exe to execute a VBScript residing on the Domain Netlogon Share. It works perfectly on Windows 7, but fails miserably on Windows 8.1. When I open a command
    prompt as the System account and try to run the script from the Netlogon share manually, I get the following error:
    CScript Error: Loading script \\<FullyQualifiedomainName>\Netlogon\xyz.vbs failed (The account used is a computer account. Use your global user account or local user account to access this server. ).
    Is there something different I need to set in Windows 8 to get this to run?
    Thank you!!
    Eric Myers

    Hi Eric,
    What's the result of Arnav's question?
    How did you set it? Please set it as the following steps:
    1.Go to Start > Administrative Tools > Task Scheduler
    2.In the Task Scheduler window double click your task, and on the "General" tab, under "Security options" section,  click the "Change User or Group" button.
    4.Make sure "From this location" is set to the local machine name (to change click "Locations" button and select the local computer name)
    5.Type "SYSTEM" in the text box and press ok . Under "When running the task, use the following user account:" you should see "NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM".

  • Rather than go to the home page I have specified in the General tab of Options in the Tools menu, Firefox keeps going to a truncated version of this url.

    I have used the following URL as my firefox home page for quite some time:
    https://www.google.com/search?num=100&safe=off&hl=en&complete=0&q=Rochester-NY+CDC.gov+|+NIH.gov&btnG=Search
    Several months ago, malware of some sort replaced this url with one of their own. I got rid of the malware and put back my original home page, but I'm continuing have a problem: Every time firefox goes to my home page, rather than using the whole url that I've specified, firefox truncates this url to just the first 87 characters, and goes to this truncated url instead:
    https://www.google.com/search?num=100&safe=off&hl=en&complete=0&q=Rochester-NY+CDC.gov+
    Not only is this not the url that I have specified in the General tab under Options in the Tools menu, I always get an error message in an additional tab whenever Firefox goes to this truncated version of my home page. Can anyone tell me what I need to do to get firefox to use the entire url I have specified as my home page in the General Tab under Options?
    I do not know if this is relevant or not, but I noticed that prefs.js includes two other user prefs related to the home page in addition to the one that identifies the url I chose:
    user_pref("browser.startup.homepage", "https://www.google.com/search?num=100&safe=off&hl=en&complete=0&q=Rochester-NY+CDC.gov+|+NIH.gov&btnG=Search");
    user_pref("browser.startup.homepage_override.buildID", "20130617145905");
    user_pref("browser.startup.homepage_override.mstone", "22.0");

    You need to escape the pipe character as %7c if you want to include it in the URL

  • I am using firefox 3.6.23 on my old computer, I have a new laptop that I would like to transfer the bookmarks from the old to the new, but the old computers firefox does not have the sync tab under options, what now?

    I have a tower running windows XP, using Firefox 3.6.23. I have a new laptop running windows 7. I have just downloaded firefox 7. Now I want to bring the bookmarks form my old tower computer using firefox 3.6.23 to the new laptop using firefox 7.0. I got the instruction on how to sync the two computers, but I cannot find the sync tab under options in the firefox 3.6.23 computer. Will upgrading the tower's firefox to a newer version give me the sync tab under options?

    With firefox 3.6 I think you may have had to use sync as a separate add-on. If so try finding and installing that. Alternativly export your bookmarks from Firefox 3.6, then move that file, using any suitable method (eg removable media, email atacchment, computer network) to somewhere the new laptop can access it and imprt the bookmarks. Remember
    * back up your bookmarks (on both machines) before doing anything
    * importing standard firefox bookmarks overwwrites existing bookmarks
    * (if you just have a few bookmarks on one machine, consider exporting as HTML, when you import those they will append, instead of overwriting the existing files)
    See
    * [[backing up and restoring bookmarks]]
    * [[backing up your information]]
    * [[importing bookmarks and other data from other browsers]]

  • Under Tools, Options, Security; how do I add a site to the "exception" box to prevent a password from being saved?

    I would like to add a site to the "exceptions" box under "tools", "options", "security". This is to prevent the computer from saving a password for that site.

    Some sites (like and others) like PayPal, Yahoo, Windows Live and bank sites use ''autocomplete="off"'' to prevent Firefox from saving the name and the password.
    If a site uses ''autocomplete="off"'' then look at this article for a bookmarklet to remove that autocomplete attribute.
