Cannot activate iCloud services for contacts under Mavericks 10.9

Just completed my 10.9 transition today.
Small glitches, nothing major, little snitch wants an upgrade, EPSON scan no longer working but built in work around, airport 5.6 no longer working (I liked the statistical functions), ... little things.
The only major issue was that my address book data had disappeared. No panic (yet) - everything backed into the cloud.
Now the tricky part:
I can activate the iCloud service in the "system preferences", but I cannot see or seem to be able to add the same in the "contacts - preferences - accounts". It asks me to enter my AppleID nd PW but it is not added to the acounts.
At a loss here, I have "reset documents & data" via my iCloud web access, multiple re-boots with iCloud / Contacts services on/off - no change.
Any help out there to help me look what is going wrong or even a quick fix.
Thanks,
--- Carsten

Found the problem.
I was using a symbolic link to share the addressbook / contacts between multiple accounts on the same computer. Just deleted it and had Contacts re-establish the folder. This worked fine under 10.7 Lion, no longer works under 10.9.
iCloud recovered the addressbook / Contacts data - Works fine now.

  • Does Office365 EWS provides Push Notification service for Contacts and Calendar Events?

Can any one suggest if there is a way to achieve this.

  • Upgraded to Mavericks yesterday. Cannot get iCloud or Mail, Contacts, etc. Pref Panes to open.

Very odd behavior by several of the Pref Panes in the System Preferences app. I cannot get the iCloud pref pane to launch. There is no spinning beach ball and the Force Quit Applications box doesn't show that System Preferences is not responding. Same goes for the Mail, Contacts & Calendars pref pane. This is really not cool at all (along with Safari not working any more).
Lucky for me, I upgraded to Mavericks on a clone of my primary hard drive, so all I've lost is the time it took to clone the primary drive and perform the Mavericks upgrade. I thought about holding off upgrading until the first major Mavericks update came out. I've not run into any major problems with any of my OS X installs or upgrades until Mavericks.
Oh, yeah, Finder is syrupy-slow under Mavericks as well. All the supposed memory use improvements in Mavericks have not resulted in a snappier system performance on my early-2011 MBP.

Problem solved: it took a long time for Mavericks to sync data to the newly upgraded drive from iCloud, apparently. I rebooted and let the laptop simmer overnight. When I got up the next morning, all the problems I mentioned were gone.
I have since done a Mavericks upgrade on another of my hard drives and let the system "settle" for a few hours after the upgrade. This seems to be the answer: if things that depend on iCloud aren't accessible right away, wait at least 30 minutes and then see how your system's behaving.
Hope this will help anyone with the same issue.

  • Cannot add icloud account to Contacts so all my icloud contacts are stuck on the cloud and I can't actually get them on my desktop imac

So all my devices have my contacts on them from my icloud account.  However on my desktop imac when I go to the Contact application there are none in there.  When I go to the preferences for contacts and try to add the icloud account I get through the login process of user account and password but then nothing else happens, no contacts get added to the imac.  Hmmm.  Now what?

Yes that is all correct.  Now, I think I know why it isn't working, I just don't know how to fix it.  Several years ago before icloud really was up and going I used dropbox to sync my contacts between my computers.  I suspect that is the problem.  WHen I open Contacts in Maverick on my imac it knows there are vcards somewhere and asks if I want to add them.  I click yes but then it sits there and does nothing.  There is no "Library" file that I can find in Maverick to move that old address book file back to the application support file.  That's what I have to figure out.

  • ICloud restore for contacts I deleted!

    Hi,
I went and deleted contacts on my phone - not realising it then deleted them from my husbands phone, via iCloud.
Any way of restoring these contacts??
I'm a little worried about doing a restore in case I restore the wrong backup
Any help would be much appreciated!
    Thanks

    From Apple:
You get 5GB of free iCloud storage for:
Photos and videos in the Camera Roll
Device settings (for example: Phone Favorites, Wallpaper, and Mail, Contacts, Calendar accounts)
    App data
    Home screen and app organization
    Messages (iMessage, SMS, and MMS)
    Ringtones
Data like contacts are not part of the backup because they are kept in icloud as part of the syncing feature.  When you delete a contact on a device that is connected to icloud, then the contact is deleted from icloud and all other devices associated with that icloud account.  When you restore a backup you get all the data listed above and then services like ical, mail, and contacts are synced with the icloud data (not the backup).  If some of that was deleted, then you don't get it back.
HOWEVER... if your computer is part of the icloud contact syncing, then your backup of the computer (e.g. Time Machine on a Mac) should have the data.  Try restoring from that.

  • When using Icloud service for windows to synchronize with outlook, what outlook profile does it use - is there a way to specify which one?

After loading  - iCloud Control Panel for Windows v1.1 and logging in icloud
I have options to synchronize several Outlook Items with icloud.
    Mail, contacts, calendar, etc.
The questions is to what outlook profile icloud control panel will connect to synchronize.
I am asking because on this PC, I have 3 profiles -> all with differnt contacts, and calendar items.
Each profile has a different name.
iCloud Control Panel simply says "contacts" -> Outlook ==> which profile in outlook.
    Thank you

Under "tools", "Options" , "applications" on my computer there isn't a "mailto". so these instructions don't work. Any other ideas?

  • Cannot search iCloud sync'd Contact details in Outlook instant search

    Relevent topology:
iCloud (contact database) > iCloud Control Panel for Windows v1.1 > 32-bit Outlook 2010 (fully updated)
I am able to perform "Instant Search"'s on iCloud sync'd contacts in Outlook.  What I am having trouble with is trying to performa "Instant Search" on the contact details, which works flawlessly on normal Outlook-generated contact folders.
As this document (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4861) explains some issues with the Outlook Calendar, I was wondering if there was a similar issue with Contacts, and if there are any work-arounds.
    Thank you

I've had a very painful experience with multilingual support on Microsoft's products and this is one reason that I ditched Windows Mobile (the other being that I was terrified by its user friendliness).
To be honest, I'd be perfectly happy to ditch Microsoft Outlook as soon as a perfect substitute for Outlook Tasks appears on the Mac OS X platform (NB: I am aware of the iPhone/iPad task management solutions or the web-based ones - I am not interested in those).
From the entire Outlook suite, Apple covers Mail, Calendar, Contacts reasonably well.  They are not so advanced in features as Outlook but they do the job.  Tasks is the only one that doesn't exist on Mac OS X - to my knowledge, at least.  If someone knows something I don't, then please fill me in on the missing bits.
I can see the benefit of the iCloud but only among Apple's devices.  I think that once it hits the PC platform, issues are propping up (inevitably).
Is anyone aware of whether this issue still persists in MS Outlook 2010?  I am using Outlook 2007 for now as I don't any reason for the upgrade.  But if the situation with those iCloud sync folders in Outlook is better in the 2010 version, then I might think about upgrading.

If you mean that Find My Phone is asking for a password to a different Apple ID to your current Apple ID.
This feature has been introduced to make stolen phones useless to those that have stolen them.
However it can also arise when the user has changed their Apple ID details with Apple and not made the same changes to their iCloud account/Find My Phone on their device before upgrading to iOS 7, or if you restore from a previous back up made before you changed your details.
The only solution is to change your Apple ID back to its previous state with Apple at My Apple ID using your current password, you don’t need access to this address if it’s previously been used with your Apple ID, once you have saved these details enter the password as requested on your device and then turn off "find my phone" and delete the account from your device.
You should then change your Apple ID back to its current state, save it once again and then log back in using your current Apple ID. Finally, turn "find my phone" back on once again.

  • HT201328 Hello, my name is Caterina Taverna. I call the telstra online service in Melbourne Australia and asked for my phone to be unlocked.  I am now in the USA and have purchased a temporary sim card and cannot activate.  Asking for Activation Required.

This is now urgent as I need to have contact with my mother and nan who is very sick.

TJBUSMC1973 is correct. Back up your iPhone and then restore to factory settings. During set up you will be prompted to download and install Network Carrier Settings(this is the unlock).

  • Photosmart C4500s cannot be set up for Wifi under Mac OS X Yosemite

    Hi,
I use an HP Photosmart C4524 with a Mac OS X Yosemite. Unfortunately, the only way to use the printer is by connecting to its own 'hdsetup' wifi-network. I would like to connect the printer to my own wifi network, but the product offers neither a set-up wizard nor auto wireless connect (I think) or a WPS system and it is not recognised in the Apple Printer and Scanner Settings.
I used to be able to set up the printer thrugh USB under older OS Xs, when I could still use the HP Desktop Software.
After the Apple Driver Update this software has become obsolete and was deleted from my computer.
I tried installing the software and using it without the drivers update.  It worked up to a certain point but always crashed while connecting printer to network.
I also tried changing the network options when accessing the printer's IP address, but I was unsure about what I was doing.
Are there any solutions to change my printer's wifi network?
    This question was solved.

Hello @Arnau, I hope you are well and welcome to the forums
I have a few suggestions that might work, to have your printer connected wireless with Yosemite. It may not work, but it could be worth the attempt, right?
To get started, there is no driver available for the Photosmart C4524 on Yosemite. The same process for Mavericks may work. Here are my suggestions:
    Reset the printing system
    Repair disk permissions
    Restart the Mac
Follow this guide: HP Printers - Installing a Mac Printer Driver Using Apple Software Update
In addition, download this driver: HP Printer Drivers v3.0 for OS X
If you still cannot connect wireless, see this post from @MissTeriLynn  and try her steps to connect through the Embedded Web Server: Re: Photosmart C4780
Best wishes to you, I hope this helps

  • Telstra Air, cannot activate the service.

I have tried many times to activate Telstra Air without success, not even an email or an error message from Telstra. I have a compatible gateway T797I have an active ADSL2  Bizessentials account, the account number begins with N and ends with RI have a bigpond email address that ends with [email protected] have the Telstra Air app installed on my Android phone.I have checked my router admin panel 10.0.0.138 many times but cannot see any sign of Telstra Air. I think the problem is that my Bigpond email address is an old address that I created many years ago and it does not associate with my current Bizessentials account number that begins with N and ends with RIt is the only bigpond.com email address that I have. I have searched through all the configuration details for my current ADSL account and cannot find an associated Bigpond email address. Is there another way to activate a Telstra Air service on my gateway without using an email address, perhaps using my Bizesssentials account number instead?

Telstra Air is currently only available for consumer customers, they have not announced it for business customers as yet.
The FAQ does specify that it is only for Home Broadband customers unfortunately:
    Compatible plans
The following Telstra home broadband plans are compatible with Telstra Air™:
    ADSL
    Cable
    NBN
Satellite and Velocity plans are incompatible.

  • I cannot activate icloud foto. When I click on icloud the window comes up but in seconds the possibility to click to activate foto freezes. Can anyone help. I have spent so many hours trying to solve the problem.

i am so tired. Have used many hours now to find a way to get my fotos from my Iphone to my PC'er (windows 7). I have downloaded Icloud, but I cannot aktivate "foto" When I click on icloud there comes a window, where it seems that I can click on foto. But within sekonds the 3. (foto) possibility freezes and the vindow sort of changes: You can still se the choice "Foto" but it cannot be activated. Can anyone help, please!

Thanks for the link to your system.
You have a Combination BluRay and Surround System that includes WIRELESS Rear Speakers:
Rear wireless ready: Yes, 5.1ch wireless system included, 7.1ch wireless option with purchase of SH-FX67 + SB-HS100A
This could account for why the BluRay is generating interference with your wireless network signal.
You can go thru the process of changing the wireless  channels and other changes to the Verizon Actiontec Router or hook up your old router which was working before you switched to FIOS.
FIOS has a Superior Product over any cable system and I would hate to see you leave over something that was out of their control.
By the way, looking at the picture of the rear connections for your Panasonic you would want to have an Optical Toslink cable go from the back of the Verizon HD Set Top Box (Optical Out) to the Optical In jack on the back of the Panasonic.   This connection will provide you with Dolby Digital sound (If Broadcast by Channel) while you are watching TV.  You may need to switch inputs on the Panasonic Remote to get this to work.  You may also have an Optical Out jack on the TV that could be connect as well if you are using an HDMI Cable.
Your Verizon STB  would be connected to the TV by either HDMI, Component, Composet, or Coax (Highest Quality to Lowest Quality).  The HDMI would also provide sound to your TV so that it's internal speakers would work if desired.
