Cannot activate imessage on ipad 2

THANKS TO ANSWERS FROM PREVIOUS QUESTION I WAS ABLE TO UPDATE MY IPAD FROM IOS 6 TO 8 BY CONNECTING TO LAPTOP AND UPDATING SINCE STORAGE WAS LIMITED ON IPAD.  UNFORTUNATELY, I CANNOT ACTIVATE IMESSAGE.  I HAVE BEEN USING THIS FOR YEARS. CAN SOMEONE TELL ME WHY?  I KNOW I AM USING PROPER APPLE ID AND PASSWORD  BECAUSE I RESET ON PURPOSE DUE TO CONTINUALLY GETTING THIS ERROR.  HELP!

Hi Smhawk1,
As someone who uses iMessage daily I know I would be upset if it was not functioning for me. If you are having an issue with activating iMessage on your iPad, I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article -

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
If restarting doesn't help, reboot the iPad.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
If that doesn't help, sign out in Settings>iTunes and App Store. Tap your ID and sign out. Restart the iPad, sign in again and try iMessage again.

Have you updated your iOS to 5.1? Just confirming as it says "iPhone 4S, iOS 5.0.1" in your thread.
Double check if you have credit in your mobile in order to activate iMessage.
Turn iMessage off and on again, than turn off your phone (long press display off and on button) and slide to turn off. Turn your phone back on, enter your "Apple I.D" in the iMessage window and wait till it verifies everything.
Tell us if it solves the issue.

It seems a lot of people are having this problem...you can try restarting your device, making sure Date & Time settings are on automatic, or changing your DNS to 8.8.8.8. However, most people posting about this problem have tried everything including data resets, restores, etc. and it doesn't seem to work. It seems to be an issue on Apple's end with the servers...hopefully they can resolve it quickly

  • I cannot activate iMessage on my iPod touch

I get a "cannot activate iMessage" note when trying to sign in. iMessage works perfectly with my iPhone on the same network. I have restored the iPod. I have turned on and off wifi. I have adjusted DNs to 8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4. I have reset the iPod. But no luck activating. I have also checked date and time are auto updated. Software is up to date. Location services is on. I have literally gone through all trouble shooting available online. Have I missed any tricks?

    You can try here:

However, I suspect an Apple server problem. Many users have been reporting problems with Messages and Facetime today.

If you go to a local Apple retailer they can help you. You can also read the manual: iPad 2 User Guide (For iOS 4.3 Software). Also, see iPad User Guide (For iOS 5.1 Software).

  • I cannot activate iMessage and Facetime in my iPad and Macbook Pro

    Hi everyone,
Last month, my iPad Air 3G (ran iOS 7.2) and my Macbook Pro (ran Yosemite OS 10.10), I could use iMessage and Facetime in both of them normally. But after upgrading iPad to 8.3, I can not sign in with my Apple ID on 2 devices anymore. It always has error: 'Could not sign in with your Apple ID. Please check your internet connection" when signing up in iPad and Macbook Pro.
I tried many ways: reset network, reset device... with iPad but it didn't work. Please help me. Thanks a lot.

  • I cannot activate imessage or facetime in the ipad settings

I have an ipad 4 running version 5.1.1 When I attempt to activate messages or facetime in settings the slide immediately reverts to the 'off' position. When I attempt to sign into imessage I receive a message telling me I can't sign in and to check the wifi connection. (The wifi connection is fine.) I assume this is because imessages haven't been activated in settings. Can anyone assist?

  • Cannot activate iMessage or FaceTime on my iPad 2

When I try to activate iMessage or FaceTime from settings-general-..., I get "iMessage (or FaceTime) Activation   Could not sign in. Please check your network connection and try again.". I get the same result trying to activate from within FaceTime. At one time all of this worked fine without issue. I was able to send and receive messages or FaceTime sessions. One day trying to FaceTime I get the login requirement. This has been the case now for about 3 or four months. Periodically I have come back to try without success.
Have tried the numerous suggestions from this site from DNS IP changes to time zone to logging out of iTune to resetting the devise etc, etc, etc. Results are always the same. I have an iPhone that works fine for these two apps. Seems I crossed a line somewhere in the past and can't get back over.
Can't seem to find a solution here or otherwise on the NET.
    Any suggestions.
    Brad
