Cannot add a Canon Network printer to iMac (Intel) OS 10.8.3

I have never been able to connect this mac to the networked printer(Canon ImageRunner Advanced C5045).  The printer is detected as a printer nearby connecting through bonjour, but it won't print with the updated drivers, it wont print with generic drivers.  I've added it by IP address, by advanced settings with IP address, When I use the canon drivers, it gives me a driver error -50.  When I use the generic drivers it says its connecting and says it sent the prints, but nothing comes out of the printer.  I'm kind of at a loss.  Any suggestions?  Please?

been sitting here non stop for two days trying to make it work.
Under Adding it by default:
Ive used the canon driver UFR II (both US and UK) 2.43 which is supposed to work with 10.8. This leads to an error "Cannot communicate with the printer, or the printer is not supported. If the printer is supported, check the printer connection and add it again, then start Printer Utility to get the printer information." Ive used the generic PostScript printer driver and the generic PCL printer driver.  These say they have printed - but nothing comes out of the printer.
Under adding it by IP
Ive used IPP with canon drivers/generic drivers (canon drivers error -50 - generic drivers say they have printed but nothing comes out)   Ive used Jet Direct with canon/generic drivers (no results) Ive used LPD with canon/generic drivers (no results)
Under adding it by windows
I've found what I believe to be the printer, but it asks me to log into the printer with a user name and password - I dont have either and didnt need any such thing to set it up on the windows machine right next to it.
Under adding it by advanced
under canon CUPS BDL - got error -50
under canon CUPS Uni-direct IP - got error -50
under canon CUPS Uni-direct USB - got error 50 and Printer is not responding.Check the printer power and connection, and then try sending printing job again.
under canon UFR - got error 50
under IPP - got couldnt connect would you like to continue - yes - says printed - no results
under IPP (http) got error -50
under IPP (https) - got error 50
under IPP (ipps) got error 50
under Jet direct - got no results
under LPD/LPR - got no results
under windows with spoolss - got log into printer with user name and password - followed by error -50

  • After upgrade to latest firmware canon network printer won't print

after upgrade to latest firmware canon network printer won't print. It's a canon MP540 on a wireless network. It will print a test page but won't print from any application, just sits there with the message 'copying print data'!
Running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2 (11C74), with firmware SMC Version (system):          1.73f63.
    Any help gratefully received.

First off if you can print a test page there is absolutely no reason you wouldn't be able to print from a application...none.  But stranger things have happened now that we have Lion.  Within the application are you selecting the wireless printer........just had to check.
I have the MP620 which is simlar to your MP540 and have no problems printing from my MBA (June 2011).  I too have the latest firmware and software......without problems printing.
A few things I'd try would be to remove the wireless printer from your computer (in Preferences, printers), restart, and repair permissions.  Then add the wireless printer back, and see if it works.  If not.....power OFF the printer and turn back on.
If the above fails reinstall the printer driver (yours) I think you will have to plug in the USB cable.
Keep me updated and I'll tyr and help!

  • I cannot get my Canon 5220 printer to come up in the add printer list. Where did it go?

My Canon 5220 printer was not showing a connection to my computer. I decided to delete it and readd. When I went to add the printer again, it would not come up in the list. I have done this before so I am not sure what the issue is now. I have it set up as wi-fi. Any suggestions?

  • Windows Cannot Connect to Canon MP530 Printer via AEBSn

OK, here's my setup, and my problem:
    1. Mac mini, Windows Vista PC, Windows XP PC all connected to an AEBSn via Ethernet.
    2. Bonjour for Windows installed on both PCs.
    3. Ministack w/built-in powered USB2.0 Hub & Internal HDD connected to AEBSn's USB port.
    3. External HDD in USB 2.0 enclosure attached to Ministack via USB port.
    4. Canon MP530 Printer connected to Ministack via USB port.
I can read and write to the Minstack's internal HDD and the other External HDD from any computer on the network, no problem. I can print to the printer from the Macintosh. But I CANNOT print from the Windows PC.
I can, allegedly, see the printer from the Windows machines and add it via Bonjour. I have also tried to add it via the method listed at iFelix's website (i.e. adding a printer by creating a new TCP/IP printer port). But nothing works.
Here is what happens: everything "appears" to work and the printer shows up on the Windows machines and in fact quite often once it is set up I can print a test page. However, once I try to use the machine later on, after the initial set-up it never works, this has happened now over about 15-20 cycles of installing, uninstalling, and re-installing the printer.
What I notice happens by looking at the Windows printer queue when i send a document to the printer in Windows is the following:
    1. Sometimes the print dialog will simply say something like "Checking printer status" and just freeze there and nothing prints.
    2. Sometimes it will add the document to the queue and then immediately delete it and nothing prints.
    3. Quite often it will simply say something like "Printer is not responding" or "Printer is offline" and the print job just sits in the queue and nothing prints.
    4. Sometimes, and I am not joking, the document will print out minutes later, inexplicably, once ten minutes later after the computer was turned off!
This is maddening and I would love a solution, even if that solution is ditch the Canon and buy "insert printer name" or "known working printer", because at this point I just need to print from the network with some consistency. I can print from any computer if the Canon is directly connected, but that is a horrible process of plugging and unplugging USB cables, and this is SUPPOSED to work.
Also, I would note that I am not adverse to using a switch with the printer, and would prefer an auto switch if anyone knows one that is know to work with PCs and Mac. I would prefer one that did not take an Ethernet port (like the new Belkin one) as I need all three of them for wired connections.
Any help greatly appreciated as I have been battling this problem for many days now with no help, and the Apple Geniuses at my local store could not provide a solution or even recommend a printer that was known to work with Windows via the AEBSn.

    Thanks, Arimaris!
    Appreciate the response!
Your first link should be: http://www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/8013.html
That is the link for the compatibility list for the NEWER AEBSn, the one you provided is for the older base station. I've seen this list before and the problem is that most of the printers are older there, and hard to find, and there is no certainty that if you do buy that older printer it will workk as the disclaimer on the article reads: "Please also note that due to changes in firmware and software upgrades some printers which are in this list may no longer in fact be compatible."
I would love to see an OFFICIAL lost from Apple about which printers are KNOWN to work with the AEBSn via USB, but I am thinking they might not do that so as not to anger their partners who cannot seem to make their printers function properly via Windows.
I've also tried the method mentioned in your second link, many times, and it does not work for me, either consistently or reliably. I've gotten the printer to work that way (creating a new printer port via TCP/IP w/ AEBS IP addy) maybe once or twice, usually right after I set it up, and then immediately after the test print, or after a restart, it stops working. I've also had it not work after set-up. I've also experienced the "It doesn't work, walk away, and then it prints 15 mins later" syndrome, with this approach. Also, it is a pain to later delete this new TCP/IP port and try again.
Something has got to give, someone has got to know the answer to this problem. I valiantly tried to get answers from the "experts" and "geniuses" at MacWorld this month, to no avail. Sorry you are experiencing the same, I feel your pain.

  • Need help installing Canon network printer on Mountain Lion

I am trying to install a Canon MF4270 network printer with my Macbook Air running Mountain Lion.
I added the printer using its IP, and selected the MF4200 driver from the list that came installed with the OS.  The printer worked, but it would not allow me to print double-sided (the option was greyed out). Some research showed that other people with similar problems simply updated the printer driver.
I checked the driver version and it said 2.0. I went to the Canon website and downloaded the newest version of the driver, which said 2.43.
I re-added the printer with the new driver. Same problem.
So I deleted the driver and the list of associated files, given to me by Canon tech support (I verified then that the MF4200 driver was no longer on the list), then installed the new driver (restarting my computer at every step).  I re-added the printer.
Now, it doesn't work at all. When I try to print, I get the following message: "Canon UFR II Printer Driver / Cannot communicate with the printer, or the printer is not supported. If the printer is supported, check the printer connection and add it again, then start Printer Utility to get the printer information."
I tried adding the printer using the Generic PostScript Printer driver, and when I print, it says that it is printing and I get no errors, but nothing prints.
Now, I can't print at all, and no one at Canon or Apple has been able to solve the problem.
    Please help.

First, delete the print queue in the Print & Scan preference pane, if you haven't already done so.
    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Caches/Canon/CUPSCAPT/CCPD/ccpd.conf
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu. A Finder window should open with a file selected. Move the selected file to the Trash. You may be prompted for your login password.
    Recreate the print queue.

  • Cannot find HP AiO networked printer

Spent over 1.5 hrs with HP support to no avail...thought someone here may have some additional information.
Have an HP PS3210 AiO printer connect via USB to my MBP. My wife can print fine as long as I'm home and my computer is on. When I am away she must connect her PB to print. No big deal but an inconvenience.
The 3210 has built in networking so I tried to connect it to the wireless router for network printing with a wired (Cat 5) connection. HP software could not find the printer. Uninstalled and re-installed software with most current version, still could not find the printer. Here's what's weird. Both machines can find the printer by entering the IP address in a browser window. It prints, scans, shows ink levels, tech data, everything. On the PB I can manually install the printer by going to printer setup utility, add, default browser, more printers, then selecting HP IP printer from the drop down menu but I cannot do it on the MBP. HP IP printing is not offered as an option. Even after adding the printer manually, printing a test page so I know it works, when I run the HP device setup program it still does not find the printer.
I have tried disabling the firewall on both machines, no change. HP says I have a problem with Bonjour, that it must be working properly in order for the software to see the printer on the network. If that's so, how come everything else seems to see the printer?
I have alot more faith in the knowledge available on this board than anythig HP can do for me. Any ideas or suggestions????
    Thanks!
    MBP 2.33 C2Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

You're very welcome, and that's great news. Now because you were able to add the printer and successfully print from the EWS, it let's us know that everything is set up properly we just need to contact the router manufacturer and have them open up some ports that may be blocked.
When you contact them please tell them to make sure that the bonjour multicasting is enabled on the router. Now you will need to make sure that the following ports are unblocked:
    UDP: 427, 161, 137, 138,
    TCP: 9100, 9220, 9500, 137, 139, 427
    Bonjour Ports: 80, 443, 5222, 5223
Once these settings are changed and ports unblocked you should now be able to successfully print to your D110a.
Let me know how everything works out!

  • Need to install Canon Network Printer drivers on server...?

I am about to add a Canon PIXMA iP5200R network printer to my intranet via its Ethernet connection. I have configured and tested printing sucessfully from my PowerBook G4 directly to the printer via my intranet after installing the necessary drivers and software from Canon.
Now I will like to use Mac OS X Server running on my Xserve G5 to manage the printer, and I do have some questions pertaining to this:
First question: since I don't think Canon supplies any PPD file for most of its printers, do I need to install the iP5200R drivers and Canon IJ Network Utility on the Xserve?
Second question: is there a Command Line Interface for Printer Setup Utility, or their relevant commands in CUPS, or do I need to use ARD to get the GUI of Printer Setup Utility on my Xserve?
Third question: after using the GUI or CLI of Printer Setup Utility to setup the printer on the server side, will this appear in WGM when I bring up the window to add a new Print Queue in Print service?
Fourth question: according to the Apple Print Service Documentation, if I share the Print Queue via IPP (I will only be turning this protocol on) and I have installed the Canon drivers and software on all the Mac (client) computers on the intranet, then I can use specific features of the Canon printer (such as direct CD/DVD Labeling), assuming if the Mac computers select this Print Queue via their Printer Setup Utility?
Fifth question: this Canon iP5200R printer has the ability to allow only certain computers to send print jobs to the printer via a table of either MAC ID or IP addresses, so if I enable this feature on the printer and limit to print jobs coming from the server only, I should be able to prevent user from bypassing the server to print, assuming I am also locking down the selection of printers in Print Setup using WGM?
    Thank you for reading.

    Hi @al_in_SC ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue with the HP Officejet 8620 Printer not adding to your printers and scanners on your Mac 10.10 system. Here is a link to the software and drivers for the printer. This might help see it.
The Mac should not be connect to a guest network as this will not let the printer print to it.
Here is a document to check the Network Settings. This will tell you if you are connected Wireless to the router. What is the Ip address?

The queue information is corrrect for the v10.1.0 driver, so not sure what is causing your symptom.
To rule out a network issue, I suggest you connect the MF48xx to the USB port on the MBPro, create a new print queue and see if this prints. If it has the same result then at least it rules out it being a network issue and something to do with the UFR2 driver.
For this new MBPro, did you migrate data from another Mac? And was this previous Mac printing okay to the same MF48xx series via the wireless network?

  • Network printer to imac g5 issues

I'm trying to network my 'sharp' printer/scanner to the imac over an local IP,.. do I need to have another computer connected & turned on with the printer for this to work? I don't see an ethernet data jack in the back of the printer. Thanks.

Which specific printer (model) do you have?
Unless it is a native network printer you will need to connect it to a computer.

  • Network printing via an Intel Netport Express print server

We have a 'complicated' network at home comprising two Macs (G4 800MHZs) and 6 PCs.Printing is either wirelessly to an HP D125xi which also serves as the network scanner, and wired via the Intel Netport Express Pro 100 to an HP690c and Epson 740C. However, I cannot get the Epson or HP 690 to print via the print server. Currently the Epson is served directly via a very long tortuous USB cable, and I can't be bothered with the HP690. I know all the IP addresses of the network, including the print server, but although I can see the print server on the network, when trying to access the printer ports on it, I have nothing to latch on to. Will this combination simply not work? I can access the print servier via my browser and set it up, but I can't get Printer Set-up Utility to get through to the printers, which are on LPT1 and LPT 2. The PCs have no problems with this arrangement and can print and scan across the network easily. PS I'm a user, not a tecchie, so please, any explanations in layman's terms. Thanks.

Network printing/Windows printing only works with a driver that was meant for network printing. To use the OS X built-in CUPS network choices, you need a CUPS driver. For postscript printers, it's not an issue, because postscript is the native output of OS X, and can easily be routed to the various CUPS choices in Printer Setup.
Non-postscript printers are Very Different. Except for Brother, no manufacturer has provided CUPS drivers. Instead, what you get are Carbonized, OS9 legacy drivers, that have the comm protocol written into the driver (mostly USB). They can only print via local connection.
Here are the sources of CUPS drivers I know of:
    http://www.linuxprinting.org/macosx/
    http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=1537
    http://www.printfab.net
    http://www.easysw.com/printpro/
Then, after you have the driver, to setup for the print server you need to carefully read the manual to decide which protocol(s) are supported and then enter the right info into Printer Setup. The IPP and LPD protocols both require a device-specific queue name (also called port name), which should be in the manual. HP Jetdirect protocol doesn't use queue name. Common queue names are L1, lp, P1 etc. (If you know for sure it's LPT1 and LPT2, that good!) If the manual is no help, you can find the info in Windows printer properties > Ports > select port > Configure port.
    Good luck.

  • I cannot install a Canon MX420 printer to my Imac.  It will not show up in the printer preference bar

I am trying to install an all-in-one printer CanonMX420 and the printer is not showing up as a printer option.  At a loss

Have you downloaded latest drivers from Canon web site ?
Have you tried setting the printer using its IP address ? (you can configure it either from the web interface embeded within the printer or via the config screen)
Mine is just showing up in the preference pane. My only issue (after having setup vuescan and removing it) is that I can not access it using default interface. I have to use VueScan and nothing else...
    But i's working fine.

  • Cannot add HP Deskjet 3820 printer

We have been using an HP Deskjet 3820 printer with an iMac forever with no problems. The printer is connected from the printer parallel port to the USB port on the computer using an adapter cable. Last time we tried to print the print job stopped in the middle of printing. Occasionally this would happen in the past but if I deleted the printer and then added it back everything was fine. Now, though, when I try to add the printer under the USB heading, I get a question mark, the printer name, and "driver not installed". I have tried reinstalling the software that came with the printer, and downloaded and installed the latest drivers for my system software - all with no change. HP is really no help except to tell me that a talk with a tech will cost me $30 or I can buy a new printer. The weird thing is that I can print a test page, so there is some communication between the computer and printer, but I can't actually install it to print from within an application.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Try:
    Repair permissions (Disk Utility).
Delete Print Prefs - search for files that start with com.apple.print (File>Find) and delete them.
Restart the Mac. Try adding in Print Center again.

  • [SOLVED] I cannot add a local USB printer through cups

    Hi all.
I have a DCP-7065dn from Brother. It is a mono-laser/scanner combo. Using the instructions here http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/bs … index.html and the repackaged drivers from the AUR I was able to get scanning and the scan button to work (plugged into laptop via usb). But I can't seem to add the device as a printer. when I visit the cups url [http://localhost:631] I go to Administration --> Add Printer. But there is nothing listed under Local Printers. Brother offers lpr and cupswrapper drivers as well ad ppds. They are deb and rpm packages but are also availible in the AUR. I have downloaded and installed these packages from the AUR but still cannot detect the printer. Am I missing something simple?
