Cannot add a device to Firefox Sync using passcode.

I am running Firefox/3.6.15 on a MacBook Pro, Mac OS 10.6.6. Each time I click Add a device in the Sync Preferences window, I am taken to the How do I add a device to Firefox Sync web page. It does not display the window where I can enter a passcode as shown in the online manual. Please help me figure out what the problem is. Thanks!

Hi, the new 'passcode'-based easy setup process is only supported in Firefox 4. To add a device in Firefox 3.6, please follow the [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/How%20to%20sync%20Firefox%20settings%20between%20computers instructions for adding a device without easy setup].

  • Re: "How do I add a device to Firefox Sync?" There is no link for add new device.

The code for the new device is some 21 alpha numeric characters long. Only a few of the characters fit in the three boxes -- they do not all fit.

The sync key is 26 characters and needs to be entered on the account page (I don't have the device), but if you have the code supplied by another device then you only have a code of 12 characters.

  • I cannot add another computer via Firefox Sync.

    I followed these instructions:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/add-a-device-to-firefox-sync#w_add-another-computer
However, when I click "I Have A Firefox Sync Account" I get redirected to the "Add a Device" page.
    How can this be fixed?
Is there another way to migrate FF from a Win XP 32-bit to a Win 7 64-bit OS?

  • Cannot find "Add a Device" link under Sync tab

Hi! I'm trying to make Sync work between my two computers.
I signed up on one laptop and then am instructed to go to the other and "Add a device".
However, when I click on the Sync tab in Options there is no 'Add a device" button.... the window doesn't look the same as the one in Firefox Help. All that exists in my "Sync" window is a button called "Set up Firefox Sync".
If I click on that I get to a page where I can "Connect" to my Firefox sync account. Then I'm taken to a page that says I should go to the other computer and "Add a device"
The other computer also doesn't have any button called "Add a device".
We just updated both computers to the newest version of Firefox, so that can't be it. We are on Windows XP.
Please help! Thank you so much!!

If you see the "Set up Firefox Sync" button if you go the the Option > Sync tab then that means that Sync isn't installed on that computer.
You first need to create a Sync account on the first computer and then you can connect on the other computer to that sync account.

  • I want to disable firefox sync using lockpref

how do i lock the firefox sync using lockpref?
do you have a good recommendation for reference to lock down firefox option?

Try to lock the server URL (services.sync.serverURL) and other Sync URLs to empty strings.<br />
Then it is impossible to connect to the server.

  • Cannot generate a Key. Manage Account menu doesn't show up even after following Help articles. Correct username, e-mail and password. I already have a Firefox Sync Account but cannot Add a Device. No way to Sync due to no Key.

I cannot generate a Key to Sync between two computers. Manage Account menu doesn't show under Options > Sync > Firefox Sync Setup > I already have a Firefox Sync Account > I don't have the Device with me. No Sync Key no matter how hard I tried.

Yes I did. '''''I solved this issue last night.''''' First I had to Clear My Sync Data, then Yes I Already Have a Sync Account [enter User, Password] and only then the Key appeared in its proper field. Went to the 2nd computer and wrote down the Key after I Already Have a Sync Account. The bottleneck was to enter into Mozilla server after resetting pass and user, and then, clear data.

  • How can I enter the sync key from my phone? Clicking "add a device" in Firefox 4b11 does nothing.

I'm running Firefox 4b11 on Windows 7 and nothing I do allows me to add my phone to sync. Clicking on "add a device", "change password," or "My Sync Key" does nothing, so I can't even get my sync key to add the phone manually.

You should be able to add a device by opening the Firefox Mobile preferences and then scrolling to the Sync section. Press the connect button and you will get a 12 character pass phrase. On your desktop open the options window and then the Sync tab then use the add a device button to enter the 12 character code from your mobile.
If you are not near your computer you will need the Sync Key that was given to you when setting up Sync.

  • Some bookmarks missing on mobile device after firefox sync

I have Firefox 12 installed on my iMac, running Mac OSX 10.6.8. I've successfully setup my Firefox sync and linked both my iPad 3rd gen, and my iPhone 4S running iOS 5.1.1. Besides the sync process taking forever, I also noticed that a few bookmarks are missing on my devices. I've tried re-syncing, and unlinking the devices and relinking them, and I even deleted, recreated and resynced my account but the problem persists. Happens to be the same bookmarks missing on both devices. What do you advise?

Consider switching to a cloud-based bookmarking platform where there's no need to backup, sync or import your bookmarks because they are automatically backed up and inherently synched, and all your bookmarks are always available using any browser from any computer, mobile phone or tablet. My company operates http://iCrumz.com, a free cloud-based Internet bookmarking service. The iCrumz interface allows you to have 100 or more bookmarks on a single webpage without being cluttered. iCrumz also offers an import function, so you can import and consolidate all your bookmarks from all your browsers on all your devices. • Is there a way to remotely remove an Android device from Firefox sync?

I don't currently have access to my Android device that has the Firefox app with Firefox Sync linked to my desktop browser. Is there a way to remotely unlink the Android app?

No, you will have to change the password of your sync account and re-add all other devices.

  • Cannot add another device as Account Owner

I am trying to add another device to add my boyfriend onto my plan. Whenever I try to do this, I get a screen telling me that it is not authorized because I am not an Account Manager. However, on my My Verizon page it says that I am an Account Owner, supposedly a higher designation than Account Manager. So why can I not add a device to my own plan?

Just for the asking Have you Called Customer service and talked to a Rep. you might give that a try Customer service opens at 7:30am unless those Hours have Changed have them look over your Account with you they may ask to check your Credit even if is in Good standing and once that is done see if the Rep will go to your My Verizon just to make sure nothing is hanging up..

  • I cannot find the sync options that has "add a device" on firefox, all I find is "syncronizing" under tools and when I click on it I get how to set up

    ''dupe of https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/915557''
I cannot find the "sync options" on my firefox desk top. I can only find "Syncronise now" under tools. I am trying to find "add device" where is it

  • I'm trying to update to the new sync, but cannot find "unlink device" in Options/Sync.

I am trying to sync two PCs. I have successfully used FF Sync on two previous computers. I am now using 2 other computers, with FF 36.0.4 on both. I believe I have not used Sync on one of these computers before, but I think I've used it on the other one. (I'm talking about the "new" Sync.) However, it's possible that I haven't used Sync on either of these computers in the past--that is, I have an existing Sync account but it is not associated with either of the computers I'm trying to sync.
I've tried to follow the instructions, but they don't help me at all. When I click on the menu button, I do not see "Sign into Sync" as the Mozilla help page illustrates; instead, I see my email address. When I click on Options > Sync, I do not see "unlink this device" anywhere (see screenshot). This is true of both computers.
I don't know what to do.

hi, your screenshot shows that your firefox is already linked to a new sync account - no action is needed in this regard...

  • Manually add search engines to firefox for use with Omnibar?

One extension I really enjoyed with Chrome was QuickMarks, which allowed you to type 'b ' in the omnibox to search and open bookmarks. I found you can use the '*' key in firefox but it doesn't work as efficiently as it doesn't bring it up for you, you have to tab through suggestions.
I use omnibar and like the way you can use multiple search engines with keywords at the beginning. Like 'g <search>' to search google for <search>. Is there a way to add manual search engines to this list? And better yet, is there any way to add bookmarks as a search engine? That way I could set the keyword to b, type 'b mo' <ENTER> and it would open up a Mozilla bookmark.

There probably is a way to open bookmarks in a tab, perhaps using the internal address of the Bookmarks Sidebar. But when I experiment with searches in the sidebar (Ctrl+b) or Library dialog (Ctrl+Shift+b) the order of the results is... I have no idea what order that is. So it doesn't strike me as more useful than the address bar in getting to the right result quickly.

  • Cannot add bluetooth device

Cannot seem to add a Bluetooth Audio device in Yosemite. Neither in Bluetooth Preferences not up in the toolbar do I see an option to add a new device ?
    Any hint ?

So it looks like I have found a solution to this problem. There is no "Add devices" button anywhere, but if you put your BT device like a headset into pairing mode it will appear in the System Preferences > Bluetooth space with a "Pair" button.
    This solved it for me.
