Cannot add artwork to certain files

I am using the latest version of iTunes (7.3.2(6)) and I am having a frustrating problem. For certain music files, I am unable to add artwork. I am aware that some people were having this issue with AIFF files, but I am also having it with AAC files. For instance, I have one album consisting of 10 tracks, all of them AAC files at 192 kbps. I see the "Drag Artwork Here" message in the lower right corner of my screen, and when I drag an appropriately sized jpeg to the image, it seems to stay put. If I highlight another file, and then go back to the first one, the artwork that was there a minute ago has vanished. There doesn't seem to be any way to add artwork to these files.
I have had the same issue with other albums: can add artwork to some tracks and they stay just fine, and others disappear immediately after adding them. I did not have this problem with previous versions of iTunes.
Anyone else experiencing this issue with AAC files? Any suggestions?
Thanks!

I had the same problem. So I closed iTunes and located the files in the finder and it turned out some of the files I had ripped eons ago were .mpg instead of .mp3. I just changed the extension on these old files to .mp3 and the artwork I had pasted miraculously appeared the next time I opened iTunes. Not sure if just changing the extension is the best way to deal with this for all file types, but it worked for me.
PS I was also having problems with the files holding artist name changes - this also fixed that problem.

  • Can't seem to add artwork to pdf files

In the "Books" tab, I can add artwork to epub books, but I can't seem to add artwork to pdf files. Is this a normal thing? Or is there something I'm doing wrong?
Also, do you know what I should be setting my page widths to if I want the pdf files I create to display nicely in Portrait mode on an iPhone? The ones I made seem to only look nice in Landscape mode.

Devin,  If they end in .ogg, they are OGG Vorbis files.  This is a well-known open-source music format, but iTunes is unable to play it.
Also, as you have just learned, when iTunes encounters a file that is not copmatible, it "errors silently," i.e. gives no indication of what they problem is.
To resolve it, use a 3rd party conversion program such as Switch to convert the OGG files into MP3, and then they will add to iTunes.

  • Cannot add lyrics to AAC files on SMB share

A really odd behavior. I cannot add lyrics to AAC files living on an SMB-mounted share that holds all of my songs. It works for MP3s, but whenever I add lyrics and press OK, or use an automatic lyric finding script, the pasted lyrics disappear. I know that the share is not write protected, and neither are the songs in question. I have no trouble adding new songs to that same volume.
Any help or idea what to check for would be greatly appreciated.

I'm sortof figuring that but I can always hope - I just wish I could find some solid documentation that says yes/no... and I haven't been able to.....

  • Can't add Album artwork to certain files.

Hi, I've come across an anomaly in iTunes. There are certain audio files that cannot, for any reason update album artwork. I update album art work but selecting the file in iTunes then "get info" -> "add album artwork". But on certain files these tabs, as well as lyrics, are greyed out. The audio files are ACC 128bits. The only thing I found in common with the files that won't get album art work or lyrics is that they were encoded with iTunes 4.7. The only fix I can see is reconverting them in another version of iTunes, but this seems like a really dumb fix. Mostly I'm just wondering if there are any other people that have this problem and what fix you came up with, or what would cause a specific version of iTunes to not allow artwork.

Instead of opening the album under "Get Info" and going into the Artwork tab, try clicking on the square box with a triangle in it located on the bottom left side of the iTunes window. This will display the ablum artwork inside the side bar. Click on the top of the album artwork box where it says "Now Playing" and it will change into "Selected Item". Select a song you're trying to get the album artwork for and see what it says in the box. If it says "Album Artwork Not Modifiable" then you might have a problem with the kind of file the music is. Granted, this shouldn't be any different than going into "Get Info" and trying it there, but at least this way you can tell for sure what the issue is. If the box says "Drag Album Artwork Here" then go ahead and drag the picture there and it should work. Sometimes checking the album artwork box helps you more understand what the issue is. Hope this helps!

  • Cannot add artwork from computer to itunes 12.1

I can add add artwork from itunes store but most of my collection are old and itunes cannot find them. I have loaded them onto Helium ( It found them) But I cannot get them in itunes. Add artwork way, Copy and paste, Drag them Nothing works.

iTunes 12.1 should support three ways to add artwork using existing image files on your PC, all starting with right-click > Get Info and then the Artwork tab,  Then:
click the Add Artwork button, navigate to and select an image file on your computer, or
drag and drop an image file from your computer to the Artwork tab, or
copy an image to the clipboard, for example, from a web page, go to the Artwork tab and press Ctrl-V (the right-click > Paste option that was available in prior releases is not available in iTunes 12.0 or 12.1)
However, there are three cases in which you can follow these procedures but artwork is not correctly associated with or embedded in your media files:
your media are in a format that doesn't accommodate embedded artwork - typically WAV files.  To embed artwork you'll need to convert to another format - Apple Lossless or AIFF if you want to preserve lossless quality, AAC or MP3 otherwise.
your media files are read only - to fix this, use Windows Explorer to find the folder that contains your files, right-click and select Properties.  On the General tab there's a check box labeled "Read-only" - if this is checked, or is grey (sometimes blue), click the box so that the flag is unchecked and the box is white.  Click OK, and then OK again when the "Apply changes to this folder, subfolders and files" option selected.  Now try adding the artwork again.
Windows permissions issues are preventing iTunes from updating your media files (there's some anecdotal evidence of a change in this behavior in iTunes 12).  See turingtest2's notes on Repair security permissions for iTunes for Windows for advice on fixing this, then try adding the artwork again.

  • ITunes 12.1.0.50 Cannot add Artwork.

Basic problem... which should not be a problem!
    Add Artwork option greyed out.
    Cannot drag artwork to file.
Pressing Option Key whilst Get Info doesn't work like others mention on Forum.
Any way to 'fix' this Bug rather than waiting for Apples next update?

    Great workaround!!!! CHEERS!
12.0.1 we could use option/get info, but that stopped in 12.1...
but this select 2 or more movies/get info & paste, lets me put ANY artwork on ANY movie again!!! WOOHOO
FYi all my media files are on a NAS.

  • Cannot add artwork and tags to movies in itunes

I am importing m4v movies into intunes from handbrake and have done this for over 100 movies successfully. Now though when I add artwork and other tags to the movies in itunes they don't get saved and there are no errors, i just don't see the artwork in itunes.
I have been using atomic parsley (i am on vista) to get around this but some of my recent movies are longer (between 3 and 3.5 gigs) and atomic parsley is saying it is too long to process.
Does anyone know how i can get itunes to work for this again? And if not, any other alternatives to tag these?
    any help is appreciated.
    peter

In the case of a movie, for instance, select the movie title then right-click and select get info.
At the bottom, in the Genre box there may or may not be something listed there.  Select the drop down and search for a suitable genre.  If none found and you want to add then select none or custom so that the box becomes empty.  Now simply type in your own genre.  It will be added to the list.

  • Can't edit informations or add artwork to certain tracks...

    Hi all,
is there somebody that can help me with this?
I have iTunes 8. Among the several tracks i added to my library, there are some that are basically unaccessible: I right-click on them and go to the "Get Info" menu'; whereas the blanks can usually be filled and artwork can be added, these tracks seem locked... and the only visible informations in the blanks seem hard-wired into them... What can I do??
I've also gone into the hard-disk folder where the files are, taken off every kind of restriction/lock (always by right-clicking and going to "Get Info" menu') and re-importing them into the iTunes Library. However, same result...
Needless to say that the result is an anonimous cover in "Cover Flow".
    Thank you everybody
    alessio.cap

    Hi,
I'm afraid I'm not familiar enough with Mac file security, but on a PC not only would you you generally need to remove any restrictions, but you would also need to expicity grant your account permission to write to the file. On the PC these permission problems generally happen after the fact. The boxes are editable, and the screen may even update, but when you go back to the file the original values reappear. Are these purchased tracks by any chance? I bought some of the Pixar films from iTunes which had certain fixed fields similar to those you describe. In particular I recall the video kind was fixed to Movie which was annoying as I wanted to combine them into TV Show grouping in order to tidy up my library. Interestingly, iTunes 8 has removed this restriction for me, but perhaps iTunes has some undocumented locks on various fields which are affecting you. Have you tried a 3rd party tag editor?
    tt2
Ah - as I was writing mine - you were writing yours...
Surely you can select the top level of your iTunes music folders & then explictly replace the permissions on all child objects, files & sub-folders in one operation to avoid further problems.

  • Can't add artwork for WAV file?

It's true. I tried. Is that supposed to happen? Why can't I put artwork on a WAV file in iTunes?

i think and am pretty sure that the album art is saved into the tracks data tags. There is a difference between the data tag on a file and the iTunes database infomation. Things like artist, album, genre go into the tracks data tag. Things like ratings and playcount go into the database file (see ~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Database). If the artwork were stored in iTunes then it would global and across all formats and would not be retained if music is moved around. I think that album art is preserved if a track is moved and as you've pointed out album art can't be added to some formats such as WAV so i'm guessing that album art is a codec limitation. WAV is pretty old a raw uncompressed format that is much larger than mp3 or aac. You would need to convert the audio to one of these formats to add album art. To do this set your import options to one of these codecs under the importing tab in the advanced pane of the iTunes preferences. Then with the WAVs selected in iTunes go to the Advanced Menu in the main menu bar and click on 'Convert Selection to <Codec you chose>'
    Hope that helps

  • Cannot add TV commercial .mpg file to encoder - error while decompressing source

    Hello!
I'm attempting to add a .mpg file to the CS5 Media Encoder but receive the error "Error while decompressing the source file". This file was recorded and is being used as a TV commercial. Would this mean that the file has a different encoding/compression that makes it impossible for the Encoder to decompress? I'm stumped because It is a .mpg file, which should be accepted. I've attempted adding other .mpg files and have no trouble. Is there any way around this?
Thank you, in advance, for your help!

  • Why can't I add artwork for wav files

I have a few music in my iTunes that are in WAV audio format, in the get info I am not able to add missing artwork like I can do all the others audio format and yes I have tried the get album artwork from iTunes but it says could not be found.  What is this?

Perhaps if you asked in the iTunes for Windows forum rather than here in the iPad in the Enterprise forum, someone might have suggestions.
    Regards.

  • I cannot add artwork after update of Itunes

I updated Itunes. Not only did some files get 'mixed up', but I also lost some album artwork. I was able to replace some of the artwork. Some of my Pearl Jam 'official bootleg' collection, I could put the artwork back on some of them, but not all of them. I don't get it. This is not the first time this has happened over the years, I am on my third Ipod, but I usually can fix it, not this time, I am going crazy here. I tried to change the tags, they do not seem to be write protected. They are not wav files or anything...
If anyone can help...Please...I am desperate. Thanks, Rose

I think you are on the right track. I run the program but it does not work, however, the permissions idea was a good one. It turns out that everything on my external hard drive (previous to me moving to Windows 7) is uneditable. I can't edit anything on them. New music added using Windows 7, no problems using Itunes to edit. Old stuff, prior to conversion, can't edit them anywhere (ie Itunes, WM, Explorer).
Only if I change properties per song, can I make changes. Problem is we are talking 130GBs plus. That is not cool. I can't do it. So the problem is in the actual song file. Any quick fixes to this aside from manually going by song and editing permissions?
Please help and thank you for your time.

  • Cannot add a specific Indesign file to Review

A client sent me 9 InDesign files. I opened them all in CS5 and saved with new names.  Then I added them to a review online; however, one of the 9 won't let me add it. The button is grayed out in the CS Review panel. Any ideas why this would happen? It's a one page form with just text and one small logo that is not linked.

    Oh pity.
Adding a "source" file which is not really a source file and prefixing every line with comment characters is quite ugly way of doing it. In some ways Vivado does support adding text files to project (I adds upgrade logs and others); Could it be possible for users to create such files, too, in a future release of Vivado?

  • Adding artwork to .wav files

Why can you not add artwork to .wav files?
I am a DJ, and create mix cd's. I have iTunes 7. I wanted to use iTunes to burn the CD's, and I thought it would be nice for my listeners to have a copy of my album artwork for each particular CD. Is there not a way to at least add a file to a cd that you are burning from a playlist? It doesn't even give you the option. It just starts burning the CD. I guess I could just do it manually through windows, and add the jpeg file, but it says there is not enough space on my blank disc. Why would the files be larger? It says I have to get rid of 25 MB os stuff from the disc. The picture file is only 3 MB. Plus, this is a CD that I've been burning for over a year. No problems before. Why won't iTunes work with it? Am I missing something?
Also, some of my track names are long. I list the original artist - track name - and sometimes who did the particular remix. Maybe I'm missing something here, but why is it that when I import a song to iTunes, part of the file name is cut off? Windows has been pestering me with this for so long. Anytime I move a file, or copy the music file contents of a folder, the names get cut short, and I have to sit, and rename each of them. It makes me sick! Now, iTunes is doing it.
I imported the Songs into iTunes. I burned a CD. I ejected the CD, and re-inserted it. It pops up in iTunes with all of the track information that I put into it. However, if I click on the drive in windows, there are no track names.
    what gives?

    figment222,
A couple of things. .wav files are uncompressed audio files with no support for "tagging" information to them. When you insert an audio CD in a Windows-based PC they appear as .wav files to allow you to drag and drop them as a way of importing them as uncompressed audio. On a Mac they will appear as AIFF.
The artwork is stored in a "tag" in an MP3 or AAC file. This article has more information:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93672
When you enter information for an Audio CD, iTunes can not write that information to the CD, but will remember that information on your computer. This article gives more information:

  • Can't Set Poster Frame - or - Add Artwork on 3 MP4 Movies

    Hi all,
Itunes 7.2 with a DVD library of MP4 files specifically ripped for Apple TV.
Out of 47 movies, three will not allow me to add artwork. In fact, If I attempt to add artwork, the movie file becomes corrupted with only a white screen showing for the entire movie. Once I replace the move (I have backups) all is fine.
If I attempt to set poster frame - nothing happens at all.
Two Piglet Movies and Peter Pan.
All other, including many other kids movies are perfect.
    Big bug here?
    Thanks,
    Stu

Same exact thing happens for me. Once the screen and thumbnail go white there is no fixing it iTunes 7.2 and 7.3 and 7.3.1 no difference for me. Some movies I can some I can't.
I am Using HandBrake to rip with Buit in settings for Apple TV to rip DVD'S
Sometimes it won't go white but won't change either the artwork from the original rip just stayes and nothing changes or sometimes iTunes just freezes and doesn't respond. I then have to force quit iTunes just for it to not remember any changes that I made that did work...
