Cannot add form fields in document

Acrobat Pro version 9.1.2
Windows XP SP 3
I have a document that I cannot add form fields to. When I try I get a message that says "You cannot edit the file as a form due to its security settings.
When I go to Advanced->Security->Show Security Properties. The security method is set to No Security and everything is "Allow" under the Document Restrictions Summary.
Where is there a security issue?

The fonts are not embedded and that may also be something to address. A lot of these issues may be related to the 3rd party product used to create the PDF.

Cannot add data to unknown document?

Hi there,
There are several computers working on a server and two other employees were working on the same indesign document at the same time, causing both of them to suddenly crash and then the file became corrupted. When I try and open the document I get the error message 'cannot add data to unknown document'. I still get the same message even when trying to open the file from my desktop. I am using CS5.5 and am on an imac....
I have tried to find a solution to this in the threads, but so far no luck! Have also tried to call Adobe but they were no help . Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

First off, two people shouldn't have the ability to work on the same file at the same time. That was a bug in the initial release of CS5 or CS5.5 (not sure which) but it was fixed in the first patch. If you haven't updated to 7.5.3 you need to do that to prevent future problems and take advantage of other bug fixes.
As far as your file, it doesn't sound all that hopeful. Try opening as a copy. If that doesn't work you may have to rebuild, or if more cost effective, use the Markzware recovery service: Bad InDesign or Quark File Recovery Submission Form

How to add custom field in Documents Tab of PO Header ?

Dear SRM Friends,
This is a challenging task as an ABAPer to confront to..
We are in the midst of a requirement where we have to add a custom field in the PO Header. But the requirement is to add the field in Documents Tab in PO Header Data as found in the following path of SRM Webpage :
Operational Purchaser > Purchase Orders > Process Purchase Order > Select a PO > Header Data > Documents.
As guided by "Note 672960 - User-defined fields 2" , on executing all the steps of the note the field is getting added, but in the Basic Data Tab of the PO. But this doesnt meet the client requirement.
Anybody having some solution to this, shall be greatly awarded.

Hi Vikas,
You can define a Text ID in Header data with F4 help. But the list of values will be fixed, but configurable. This will exactly solve your problem. This will be quite simple and straight forward solution with no custom developments.
Please Navigate to
SAP Implementation Guide -> Supplier Relationship Management -> SRM Server
-> Cross-Application Basic Settings -> Text Schema
1. Define Text Types
Select BBP_PD and double click text id. Add a new text id here.
2. Define Text Schema
Select PO and add the newly created text id and set required parameters.
3. Define Fixed Values for Texts
Select your PO transaction type and maintain the required values for F4 help / drop down.

IDCS3 error message "Cannot add data to unknown document"

I am using a Mac and last week I opened an ID document from my flash drive, worked on it, saved it back to my flash drive and reopened it just to make sure it saved right. Now when I try to open it, it says "Cannot add data to unknown document". All the permissions look fine. Is it a file problem? Is there anything I can do to recover it?

That is a very dangerous workflow. NEVER work off of removable media.
Always copy to your harddrive and work there.
That said, try copying the file to your harddrive now and working on that.

Add form fields to tags - not working

I have a fillable form with one simple text form field. I run the "Advanced > Accessibility > Add form fields to tags" but the tags do not change. After I run the command it is grayed out so it looks like it's done. I can save, close and reopen to make that command available again, but it never affects the tags and the accessibility check continues to give the error.
Anyone have that problem or know how to fix it? I'm using Acrobat Pro 9.3.3

Rather than use TORU for form fields why not use the "Find" feature on the Options menu from the Tags panel?
Find "Unmarked Annotations" then use the Tag Element button on the Find Element dialog.
Select "Form" for the element ("tag").
Add something useful to the "Title" field.
[edit: n.b., this method lets you avoid putting a marquee down that inadvertently encompasses undesired text]
This won't affect use of AT but gives you something to locate as you look over the structure tree.
This method puts the <Form> element at the bottom of the structure tree; so, the elements would have to be manually moved to the proper location in the structure.
Alternatively, place focus on the appropriate parent element for the PDF page content.
The new <Form> element will be placed there - still may have to adjust it location in the structure tree - just closer to that location.
As to working within the structure tree when adding elements.

I am using 8.8 PL15 I have implement Approval Procedure on every Return Document.After approval when I tried to add document using Logistic user it creates following error message.
Cannot add or update this document; rows are missing [Return - Freight - Freight Code][line: 0] [Message 131-198]
There is no any additional freight on Return & Delivery.There is no freight on base document also.
When i add same document through manager then it add successfully to system.

There may be two reason for this...
1. Freight accounts are not mapped . Doesn't matter you are using or not these in document .
2. Check items are not in negative ?

How can I add form field value to the file name in save as dialog box

I do not want the form to be saved automatically, just want the form to auto populate the "file name" only.
A little background on the forms I want to use: My company has 70 retail outlets, I'll use one of our pdf forms called an "Incident Report" as an example. I would like for a store manager to be able to complete the form, then email the form to the main office (I already have javascript to add field values and form name to the email subject line), once the main office receives it, I want for them to be able to file the pdf electronically on our server. We have mutliple forms that we use so I do not want any of the forms to automatically save anywhere, (at this time anyway) I just want the office personnel to be able to click "save as" (or whatever they will need to click) and the form automatically add certain field values from the pdf they have received, of which will be different each time the form is sent to the office (Date, store #, employee name etc.) in addition to the name of the form in the "File name" of the "Save As" dialog box. The main office employees will decide into which server file the pdf should be saved.
I'm using Acrobat 8 professional, the stores and office personnel use Adobe reader.
One little note: We currently print and file a lot of paper on a daily bases, as soon as I can get this to work, we are going green.
Me and a lot of trees in this will really apprecitate any help you can give with this! :-)

You might want to take a look at the document "Developing Acrobat Applications Using JavaScript" (js_developer_guide.pdf) which is part of the Adobe Acrobat SDK, which can be downloaded here. Read the "Privileged versus non-privileged context" (p. 45ff.). You will find an example for "Executing privileged methods in a non-privileged context". Should be almost exactly what you are looking for.
Small Outline: For security reasons ("the user always has to know what's going on") you are not allowed to use the "Doc.saveAs"-method without the user permission (--> in a non-privileged context). In order to reach the goal of a privileged context you can use a trusted function. You do this by creating a JavaScript file (*.js) in either the Application-JavaScript-Folder (default location on Windows systems: "%ProgramFiles%\Adobe\Acrobat 10.0\Acrobat\Javascripts") or the User-JavaScript-Folder (default location on Windows systems: "%AppData%\Adobe\Acrobat\10.0\JavaScripts"). Add the following content to the new file:

The developer guide actually wants you to add this content to the existing "config.js" file. I recommend creating a new file, since its easier to deploy in a network. Either way, every client/user who needs to be able to save documents this way, needs this JavaScript Code in his Application/User-JavaScript-Folder.
Within the Acrobat Document, which you want to obtain a certain file name, you can now use the trusted functions "myTrustedBrowseForDoc" and "myTrustedSaveAs" to store the file. To call the trusted functions and deliver the file name you can either you use a form field (button) or you add a new menu item. Add the following JavaScript Action to the button/menu item and change "Roller Coaster" to the name of the field which contains the value which you want to become the new file name:

Cannot Add new fields to standard QM datasource

I got this erro when I try to add new fields from LBWE.
Field ZZRFKIMG cannot be selected because of unit field VRKME -> see long text
Message no. MCEX032
Diagnosis
Field ZZRFKIMG cannot be transferred, since its unit field VRKME is either not in the communication structure, or was purposefully excluded from the selection.
Procedure
If you have chosen your own field, you must also create a user-defined unit field in the append and use it accordingly.
How can I resolve it.

My Understanding is that if the field is available in the Pool in LBWE then no need to enhance the datasource.
In my case the field is available in LBWE though it is ZFIELD (ZZRFKLMG and ZZNETPRC).
In RSA6 I added the this unit
ZZMEINS     MEINS     UNIT                                                                           Base Unit of Measure
ZZWAERK     WAERK     CUKY                                                                           SD Document Currency
I went back to LBWE and try to add the following Zfieds (ZZRFKLMG and ZZNETPRC) and the error is same.
Now I try to add the the field directly in the append structure * ZZMC05Q02ITM* but its asking to maintain the ref table and ref field.
I added ZZMC05Q02ITM as ref table and ZZRFKLMG as ref unit and I still get errors.
I am are that if I maintain it in RSA6 then I need to write user exit in CMOD but since it is available in LBWE I want to get it from the pool.
I have tried this and there was no errors during activation
ZZRFKLMG     ZZRQE_RFKLMG     QUAN     QMFE     ZZMEINS     Notification quantity in base units
I gave the table name and Unit.
Despite adding it, I still get data even though I did not used LBWE pool.

I like to know if anyone lately has successfully added
Form Fields (AFORMAUTLib.Fields) to a PDF document using IAC
in Visual Studio 2008 and Acrobat 9.3.4 Prof.
In this forum it was stated that bug in
"AcroForm.api/AFormAUT 1.0 Type Library/Interop.AFORMAUTLib.dll"
has been fixed in release 9.3.2
I applied updated Acrobat to 9.3.4 and it still blows with error message
"No document is currently open in the Acrobat Viewer"

Cannot add a field to a report

probably this has been covered extensively, but i guess i'm just unable to find it...MSDE 2003 (7.1.3088) with .NET framework 1.1 (1.1.4322 SP1), Crystal Reports for Visual Studio .NET
when editing an existing report, that does not have all the fields that are available (using an xsd as a datasource) already being used on the report,,,,,, how do i add a field?????
i'm just not understanding!
i see the field in the xsd,
i see the xsd being used as the datasource for the report,
i right click where i want the field to be added, and,,,, inser-field is grey'd out.....
what am i missing?

I am having an issue with this. We are using Visual Studio .NET 2003 as well as Crystal Reports 8.5 and 9.0.
Unfortunately, I am tasked with modifying a report that is used in VS 2003, but I cannot get it to open in Visual Studio. Every time I try to open the report, it instead opens in Crystal 9, and it cannot access the database (claiming that it cannot access crdb_adoplus.dll).
How can I get it to open in Visual Studio the way it is supposed to?

Captions - Is there a way to add form field captions in Acrobat Pro XI similar to LiveCycle?

I lost LiveCycle in the CreativeCloud transition and form field captions were easy. Is there an easy way to make form field captions in Acrobat Pro XI? Or do I just need to create separate caption fields for each field? I hope I'm just missing something obvious...

Use custom tags.
Create all the new fields on the JSP page using custom tags ... i,e through Java code.
