Cannot add music to library - insufficient privileges.

Hello all. I have a Time machine backup that i have files in. The backups were done in snow leopard, but i recently sold that computer and bought another on from someone and it only has leopard. So Of course i can't load a time machine backup due to OS differences.
So I tried to simply go into the time machine backup and just navigate to the folder that had some music in it, but it wasn't an itunes folder. Just some music in a lone folder. When I tried to add it to the itunes library then it said something like I didn't have enough privileges. So i went to the folder and changed the privileges for everyone to have read and write access to that folder and the files inside of it. Itunes still gives me the same error. I even changed the privs in the itunes music folder in which the music would go to when added to itunes and i changed those privs....no good.
So now what do I do? I'll end up getting the snow leopard soon, but i still want to get some files in there now. I am also afraid that i might not have enough space on this hard drive because the time machine backup had ALOT of stuff in there. Unless time machine is smart and doesn't add all the system files in there or something.

I cannot add music from my computer onto my itunes library. I have tried dragging the songs, importing them, going to Add files and Add folders, copy and pasting. They just won't turn up in my itunes library.

You don't say where you are having problems. The best answer will depend upon what exactly you are trying to do. If you are trying to add one or two files, copy them to a flash drive, then drag them from the drive to an iTunes playlist. If you are trying to move your whole library that requires a different answer.
Note .wma files will work with iTunes on a PC but cannot be added to a Mac iTunes. Convert them to another format on the PC first (but I don't think you can do that if they are protected format).

Afetr uprading to Itunes 11 I cannot add songs to Library. I need Help.

I hope someone can help as I am having a similiar problem. I have multi users on one macbook. I have Itunes for all users set to the same shared folder for music (to eliminate multi copies of music files) I just added new music to the shared folder by dragging it into the folder (not thru itunes). The user I orginally did the dragging and dropping in, I was able to add to the library however, Now I am not able to add to the library on the other users. When I go to add to librabry and select the itunes folder with all the music nothing happens. Even if i try one song folder at a time nothing happens. I have had this macbook for a week and am new to mac (this is my first mac) I am geting frustrated so any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Importing content setting problems - and cannot add music & still photos

Sorry for the newbie questions, but just starting with iMovie and I'm having some serious problems.
When I import movies from my harddisk iMovie seems to make a second copy and much larger version of the movie file stored in the iMovie folders (a 900mb master created a 1.4gb duplicate). How can I stop it from duplicating (& changing) the master? I certainly don't want to 'move' as it seems the original will be deleted. Probably just a check button somewhere (I hope).
Also, when trying to create a movie I cannot add music of photos! The music and photo browsers are empty. How can I navigate the disk to select a song or a photo still? There must be some settings to tell it where to find music/photos on the disk.

Is it on a NTFS drive?
Mac can read but not write to NTFS, and it does not see all NTFS drives equally well.
To write to NTFS I use and recommend Paragon Software $20 NTFS for Mac OS X.
Ideally move iTunes to a Mac HFSX format drive though.

We buy apple why?
Quality.
Intuitive interface.
Stable software.
Design.
All that Steve Jobs consider sacrosanct.
Quality is about ongoing support longevity of product.
Its not about trying to sell to every person on the planet, others are way ahead of you.
So try respective the customers you have, it wont be long before theirs a better operating system and your lead in hardware is marginal.

If you have an iPhone or iPad do not update to ISO 7 unless you want an operating system that looks like windows 8. The graphics looks like it was designed by a artistically challenged mongoose and the operating system is not intuitive something apple users expect. Overly complicated ugly and generally change for the sake of apples paranoia since the death of Steve Jobs.

Cannot add music to my ipod

I just updated my ipod touch 4 gen and now I cannot add music to it in itunes. The "add to" button is gone. I also lost all of my purchased music and cannot add it back.

If you have iTunes 11 turn on the Sidebar. Go to iTunes>View and click on Show Sidebar. You can also do a Crtl+S to show the sidebar. The sidebar is where Devices appears. and Control+B to show the Menu bar
To sync to your iPod go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Sync your iPod.... and follow the instructions.

Cannot restore TM backup of iPhoto Library - insufficient privileges

This seems to be a long-standing problem. I am experiencing problems caused by Apple's lousy implementation of user-defined places in iPhoto 11 and cannot afford to test whether reducing the radius of a place that overlaps one hundred or so other user-defined places will solve the problem, because, if it doesn't -- in versions prior to iPhoto 9.4 doing that caused all photos assigned to the overlapped places to be reassigned to the overlapping place, and the only way to undo the damage was to manually assign them to the correct places -- I cannot restore a previous version of iPhoto Library from a Time Machine backup. When I try to, I receive an error message about having insufficient privileges.
Has anybody received a solution to this problem? I have not been impressed with Apple Care. First-level support usually just piddles around creating a new user account in which to try to recreate the problem, and when the case finally is escalated, the agent usually ends up referring the problem to "Engineering", never to be heard from again.

User account with sharing permissions to home iTunes library but I cannot add music to playlist created

I have created a new user account on my iMac and set up itunes which will allow me to see and play music from my "home" or main user's library. I wanted to create a new playlist in the new user side however itunes is not allowing me to add music to this playlist. I am getting the following message:
There was a problem downloading "Song Name". You do not have enough access privileges for this operation. Please check that the connection to the network is active and try again.
How can I correct this problem?

So I have been searching the iStore for Airplay and I find lots of information about what it is, but nothing about how much it costs, how/where to buy it, etc.?
Fortunately, AirPlay does not cost anything as it is a streaming protocol used by Apple. Currently, the AirPort Express and Apple TV are AirPlay-ready. A number of other companies, like JBL, iHome, Denon and Klipsch are also rumored to be working on AirPlay versions of their products.
Your other option would be to get an AirPort Express and connect it to your Onkyo analog or optical digital audio input and stream from iTunes that way. I currently do this with my 10+ year old Harmon Kardon HT receiver.

Cannot Add MP4 to Library

I cannot add any mp4 files to iTunes, I have tried dragging and "Add file to library" but nothing happens, it does not appear in the library, any help much appreciated.

this is just a suggestion. If you reinstall itunes again, make sure you follow the directions in the support section of this site for uninstalling itunes and quicktime. Another thing they don't say in that article that I did when i had to uninstall itunes was to do a search. You know, pressing the start button and then "Search". Make sure when you do, click the search "All files and folders". Then set it to look in "Local Hard Drives (C:)" and type in the "all or part of the file name" itunes. After the search is done you should have a bunch of different itunes components in the results. Btw do the same for quicktime as a search. Make sure to DELETE every itunes and quicktime file there. If some of your music files happened to come up in the search use commone sense. Get rid of every component so itunes and quicktime is completely erased from the system. Make sure that you do this after you've restarted your computer once (according to the uninstallation article). Then just empty your recycle bin, reboot your computer, and finally reinstall itunes. Hopefully that will work to at least get rid of that APP error. Good luck and ask me anything you have some questions!!

I recently restored my complete iTunes library to my Mac HD from my external HD.
Now that i hgave done this i cannot add any music from my Macbook to my iPhone in iTunes.

I am also VERY fed up with this. Not only does it not sync any new music or changes to the device but it also corrupts my music from the previous sync. I have had to completely restore my phone several times over the peroid of this "update." Feels a bit rediculous that people pay for a product yet it is no longer able to complete a simple task.

Make sure that you are adding actual files - not a windows media player 'playlist'.

4. In iTunes: File > Add File to library ....Or Add Folder to library > locate the files, select them and add.
Note: It's best to chose a Media Player that you fancy the most to handle your media. If you use two media players to play the same files - then it may cause a conflict between them resulting in duplicate files, files that are not found and automatic renaming of files etc.

Can not add music to library.

I have tried adding music files (MP3) to library and it opens fine and allows me to select it but then it does not appear in the library. I've tried dragging and dropping but nothing. I have also manually added files to the Itunes folder. They appear but not in Itunes. If I uninstall Itunes and reinstall how will this effect the Iphone, and Ipod information apps ect? Will I have to redo all the sign in junk associated? Because honestly with an Iphone and two separate Ipods all with different info and logins is a nightmare I dont want to revisit.

Help me i cant add music from my seagate freeagent go to my itunes. i tried to drag it in but it doesnt appear in the library

if those files are MP3s, try running them by _*MP3 Validator*_ before adding.
could also be due to permissions problems.
check if you have read & write permissions for your music folder. in finder, right-click on it and +get info+. unlock the little padlock (you may have to enter your admin password) and change the permission settings. next, click on the little gear-shaped icon and +apply to enclosed items+ like so
the important part is to *apply to enclosed items* !
