Cannot adjust brightness in windows 7 64bit

Hi everyone, thanks for reading!
I cannot adjust the brightness in windows 7 64bit with my keyboard. I have tried reinstalling the latest bootcamp drivers but it still did not work.
The brightness of the monitor is just too bright for my eyes...
Is there anyway I can fix this problem? I really appreciate yr help!
My computer is an mid 2011 27" iMac. It has a i5 CPU, originally 4GB ram but i added another 16GB ram to it.
Thanks for your help again!

is your problem that you can't adjust the brightness from some keyboard shortcut or that you can't adjust it by any means in windows?
I have the same generation imac just 21" model and the apple support hardware video card driver auto adjust the brightness for me if one don't use the apple driver and let windows install some generic amd video card driver that may not be the case
check the amd catalyst display settings for more info also about brightness

  • Cannot install iTunes on windows 7 64bit

Okay, I like so many cannot install iTunes on Windows 7 64bit.
Now Orginally I got a message saying something to the effect of:
There was a problem with the install you do not have permission for something...
Through some investigating my iTunes was being installed and removing all my permissions to view and/or modify files within that folder. Even if I was logged in as admin and installed as admin all the permissions would simply block me out.
This kind of had a familar feeling as in the last few versions of iTunes I had to run as admin just to open it (this is really annoying by the way)
So I searched the net and many people were saying to uninstall everything "Apple" and try again.  So I did that.  Now I have this new message:
there is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor.
And again I scoured the internet for a way to fix this.  I apparently am supposed to goto Control Pannel/Programs and Features and select Apple Software Update and select repair.  The problem is that no longer exists in my programs list since I removed it in the earlier step. iTunes still refuses to install spitting out the same error forever. I tried the Microsoft "fix it" tool which is supposed to remove the Apple Software Update incomplete uninstall (which is apparently the whole problem) but it doesn't show up in the list for "fixing".
I am at a loss.  Why doesn't Apple fix this.  I cannot update my iPhone to the latest software in fear I may need to restore it. With no iTunes that is impossible.  I cannot change any of my music or do anything until this is resolved.  If/when iPhone 5 comes out I cannot get it either unless this issue is taken care of somhow.
I searched for an installer for just the Apple Software Update program But it seems to not exist as a standalone thing (it would be useful if it were though). If it were perhaps I could install it again and then successfully remove/repair it and iTunes might install finally.
Now I have had previous versions of iTunes working perfectly fine.  I do not recall which version I was using before I tried to update and fell into this abyss however.

Yes b noir. I've tried running just "iTunes64.msi" from the command-line and while it didn't produce the same error "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vender." it produced a different error in bold-type "iTunes Installer Completed" then "The installer encountered errors before iTunes could be configured...Errors occurred during installation. Your system has not been modified...Please run the installer again, or click Finish to exit". However, I discovered a wealth of options from the Windows Installer to try after typing "iTunes64.msi passive"...So I'll experiment some more when I have time.
P.S. I'm becoming more convinced that Apple is putting new software out there to get it debugged which was a trick that MicroSoft always seemed to do:-)

  • Cannot adjust brightness windows 8

    Hi
Need some help with envy23 I have windowes 8 I cannot adjust the brighness
    Please help
    Thank you !

    hi erin654,
    Welcome to the Forums.
It's possible that one of the updates that got installed changed the display driver that controls the brightness functionality
    Things that you can try:
    1. Press the Windows logo key‌ +R and type devmgmt.msc. On the Device Manager, navigate to the Display Adapter (right click > choose Properties) and on the Driver Tab, check if the Rollback Driver is clickable If it is, do a rollback to restore the previous display driver and try to adjust the brightness
    2. Navigate to the Control Panel > Programs and uninstall the display driver and reboot. Navigate to the D:\Drivers folder and locate the AMD Display driver installer or download and run the file below to re-install the display driver.
ATI Catalyst Install Manager (Chipset, AHCI, VGA)
           Microsoft Windows 8 (64-bit)
           Version: 8.982.7.1
After installing the driver, reboot the machine and try to adjust the brightness.
Alternatively, if you're pressing F11/F12 to adjust the brightness, try to open the ATI Control Manager and adjust the brightness settings there.

  • Cannot adjust brightness on win 8.1 x64(i have a WEIRD solution)

macbook pro 13' with retina display
    win 8.1 x64
i cannot adjust the screen brightness
i turned off "adjust my screen brightness automatically".
    i reinstalled boot camp.
i reinstalled the drivers of intel video card(5100).
    the above solutions help nothing.
BUT, at last, i found a WEIRD solution to fix this issue:
    1. adjust your screen resolution.
    2. select an option of resolution(whatever you want, select an option casually).
    3. click "Apply"
    4. press ESC(cancel to change screen resolution)
    5. now, adjusting screen brightness is AVAILABLE!
now, my question is: HOW TO FINALLY FIX THIS ISSUE?

I had a similar issue when I installed Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit on my last MacBook Pro. You know how Bootcamp downloads the support drivers for your machine? Those drivers are the instructions for the each component. I messed up a step on installing it and my secondary click wouldn't work, I couldn't adjust the brightness of the screen or keyboard, and I couldn't run games because the drivers didn't install correctly for my machine. You need a USB drive, an iSO Image, a blank DVD or CD with 4GB or more storage, a disk drive with read/write capabilities, and your Mac. If you have a desktop like the iMac or Mac mini, I believe you need a USB mouse and keyboard until the drivers are installed. Follow this video and in it there are two links, one for uTorrent and one for Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit. If you don't have uTorrent, download it and install from the link. Ignore the link to the Windows 7 32-Bit download. I found a 64-bit version if you'd like or browse the piratebay for windows 8, but I highly suggest a 64-bit version as I believe they can handle more and do more compared to a 32-bit.
Here's a link to the youtube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PqQmvMCbiwY

  • Cannot adjust brightness after display driver update on Satellite L855-118

    Hi.
I just bought an SATELLITE L855-118 , with ATI graphics today, it was between this and another one, but i know you have problems updating graphic drivers on a Sony-notebooks.
    I made a restore point.
So i uninstalled the ATI catalyst and then did an driver sweeper, and re-booted and then installed catalyst 12.6 , installed fine, but my screen went to maximum brightness and i cannot adjust it, the brighness osd appears but the screen brightness does not change.
So i used my restore point.
This time i overwrote the stock catalyst 8.9 with 12.6, just the same cannot adjust the brightness.
Does anybody know how to fix this.
My full spec in the link below.
    Satellite L855-118 - Product Specifications - Toshiba
    Thanks
    John.

This is not going to help you, but I have details on the internals of brightness control on this machine.
On other notebooks I've worked with, the hotkeys generated an event that was directly handled by the firmware (ACPI) that changed the brightness; this was done to avoid putting into the AMD video driver any system-dependent code.
On the L855 the ACPI does not really handle the notification, it just generates another event that is supposed to be handled by the video driver. For more technical details see:
Now this is where it gets ugly: if brightness control is indeed system-dependent (e.g. you have to poke some random GPIO) then the AMD driver will never support it (it would have to know the details of each and every model in circulation).
The good news - at least for Linux users - is that AMD just published the specification of its ACPI interface:
I've already done some experiments with it, keep an eye on the thread.
This may (or may not...) lead to a usable brightness control *for Linux*, but the same information *may* be used to create a similar driver for Windows.

  • Probook 4540s- cannot adjust brightness

after installing windows 7 i cannot adjust my screen brightness.

    You're very welcome.
There are two graphics drivers for your notebook -- AMD or Intel.
Whatever one you installed that gave that error, try installing the other one and see if that one works.
    One of them should work.

  • Cannot adjust brightness on R61 with Windows7

I installed windows7 build 7100 and then cannot adjust the monitor's brightness. Can some one help? Thanks.

Had the same issue with the installed driver. I upgraded to nVidia 190.15 (beta - modified by Guru3D ) and now works fine. In case you need WHQL, try the latest stable driver from the same site (modified inf to work on mobile/quadro cards)

  • Adjusting brightness on Windows XP

Anyone know how to adjust the screen brightness on the "dark side". I use bootcamp and have windows xp home addition. The screen seems to be darker than normal. I've looked on XP webside and they say to adjust brightness use controls on the screen. I don't have those controls on the screen of a macbook pro. When I use the F2 key on the laptop it does nothing. Any help appreciated

  • 27" ACD as second monitor -- cannot adjust brightness

I've connected a 27" LED ACD to my 27" iMac as a second monitor, but the keyboard commands for adjusting brightness do not affect the cinema display. I understand a common cause for this is that the USB isn't connected, but mine is and I can verify it is working because I have an external HD connected to the USB port of the ACD, and the iMac recognizes that it is connected.
Also, if I go into Display Preferences then I do see the Brightness slider for the second monitor. This is currently the only way I can adjust the brightness of that monitor.

True, Unless there's a shortcut for that, the only way to adjust the brightness of the second monitor is by using the display preferences . same here with a MBP / 27" display.

  • Cannot adjust brightness in new Windows 10 Update

Bravo! This solved the problem with a very dark built-in display and weirdly working brightness F-button on my VAIO VPC Z21 after otherwise smoothly upgrading it to Windows 10 couple of days ago. Thank you!

    Hi JacobRocks12!
BuFan is right about the official drivers and software update for Windows 10 operating System. Currently, Sony is testing Vaio computer to the new updates. It takes time since Sony needs to coordinate with certain vendors to validate those updates.

  • Cannot adjust brightness levels

I have an HP Envy 14 Notebook and as of recently, I cannot lower or higher my brightness settings. This laptop has Windows 7 Home Premium installed.
I recently updated my graphics card, or rather, the AMD Catalyst Control Center. Before installing that, the brightness control was working perfectly fine. Afterwards, it just stayed on 100% brightness and its killing my eyes. I tried going in to Control Panel > Device Manager > Monitor > Generic PnP Monitor > Uninstall > Scan for hardware changes, nothing worked. I tried adjusting the brightness level from both AMD CCC and Intel(R) HD Graphics, nothing. I tried booting up in to safe mode, still the brightness settings would not change. As it is right now, because I cannot stand the insanely bright screen I had to go in to CCC > My built-in displays > display color > Contrast to 20. It definitely dimmed the screen by a lot, and I can see a lot better now but my eyes still somewhat hurt from the incredibly bright light. Its a workaround, but I rather have this solved than have a workaround.
And the whole reason why I even updated the graphics card was because I continously have stutter when playing games and during cutscenes, but it seems that problem is still around...

    Hi ZeroArmada,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read your thread on your HP ENVY 14 Notebook and getting a blank or black screen on startup. Try performing a hard reset. When performing a hard reset please note remove any and all USB devices, and remove memory cards from the card reader slot. Disconnect all non-essential devices. If that does not help try to turn on the computer you start to press F11 repeatedly till the menu opens. You can do a system restore. Here is a link to a document on how to rollback drivers in the device manager.
    Thanks.

  • How do I adjust brightness in Windows 7 on my 27" iMac?

After installing all of the Boot Camp support files, I still can't adjust the brightness of my screen when I boot in to Windows 7 Ultimate.  The keyboard seems to work when I try to adjust the brightness, since the adjustment indicator (icons that look like a sun) comes up on screen.
    Is this an installation issue?

    Found the solution!
Control Panel > User Accounts > Change User Account Control settings > slide control to 'Never notify' > Reboot.
    Problem solved.

  • Trouble adjusting brightness in Windows 8.1

I know there are other threads on this, but none of the solutions seems to be working for me.
I manage multiple MBP-13in Retinas (Late 2013) and I'm having trouble adjusting the brightness of the laptop screen on all of them.
I have tried everything mentioned in other posts
    Adaptive Brightnss
    Disabling the Generic PnP driver
    Reinstalling everything
    Changing the resolution
The best work around I can figure out is hitting Comman + P (Windows Key + P) switching the display mode to extend (or anything else) and then switching it back to PC Display only. After doing that it works everytime.
It also seems to finally work if I leave the computer on for about 15 mins or so, or if I shut the lid and then open it back up again.
Would love a new release of BootCamp to fix this, any work arounds that people have discovered specifically for the 13in MBPr Late 2013 would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

Clean install 8.1 via boot camp
We make a few consistent changes but I can't imagine these are related but here's a full list
Disable hibernation, page file, adaptive brightness, system restore
Power settings never sleep while plugged
On display settings, try for best performance it will likely uncheck everything (we keep 5 but can't recall)

  • Cannot Adjust Brightness

The Fn down and up keys no longer adjust the screen brightness... the brightness icon and bars appear but it has no effect on the actual brightness of the screen. Setting the power management in the Lenovo energy managment screen also has no effect... I've uninstalled and reinstalled the power management software to no avail.
    Any ideas?

Backup your system and restore to default state - does the problem still remain?
