Cannot any longer save new smart collections

Hi, after reinstalling Photoshop CS6 I cannot any longer save smart collections in Bridge. Always I want to create a smart collection by entering criteria, but when I click on SAVE, it is not saved. After some time of waiting, I always have to cancel, to close the pop-up window that should allow me to save the new smart collection. In my old installation (before I had to install a new hard disk), setting up and saving smart collections never was a problem.
ALL updates of CS6 have been installed. And I am under WINDOWS 7. Version of CS6 is: 13.01 x64
Before, I used a regular hard disk for the system, now I have a SSD, plus several hard disks for data storage.
Can anybody help me with advice what the problem is?
That whould be great. Thanx,
Jochen

  • LR 3.2 new smart collection not getting correct capture date?

Just created a new smart collection after updating to LR 3.2.
It's showing photos taken in 2008 and 2009, well beyond the last two months. Checked the capture date displayed in LR. The older photos shown have been edited within the last two months.
Bug or am I doing something wrong?
    Thanks.

There was bug with "months" since Lightroom 2. Looks like it has never been fixed.
Try setting "60 days" instead of "2 months".

  • Stickies no longer save new data

I've got a iMac Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB Ram running Snow Leopard 10.6.7. I have used stickies on this for a good two years with no problems. It has resided in the dock all that time.  Suddenly, when I add information to a stickie, exit and return - it is not there. If I add a new stickie with new information and come back to it after a power down, it is not there.  I've got two "steady state" stickies and that's it.  Any ideas on how to restore this program to full functionality? I have looked through the answers presently here, but none were 100% on target. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Adobe Reader can only save filled forms when this were enabled by Adobe Acrobat.

  • Safari no longer saves new Bookmarks (OS X 10.8.3 - Safari 6.03)

I am trying to save bookmarks as I always had done, simply no bookmark gets saved. I reset Safari.

Copy the same line of text to the Clipboard again.
Quit Safari. Disable Safari synchronization in iCloud, if applicable.
    Select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the Finder menu bar. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
A folder window should open with a file named "Bookmarks.plist" selected. Move the selected file to the Desktop, leaving the folder open.
Relaunch Safari. It will open with the default set of bookmarks. Delete them all. Select
    File ▹ Import Bookmarks
from the Safari menu bar. Import from the bookmarks file you moved to the Desktop. Arrange the bookmark folders as you wish.
Re-enable synchronization if you disabled it. If Safari now performs normally, you can delete the old bookmarks file. Otherwise, quit Safari again and put back the file you moved, replacing the newer one with the same name. Close the Finder window and post again.

  • Smart Collection not letting me click Save

    Hello,
I have no smart collections or regular collections created.
I am trying to create a smart collection containing all the photographs with the keyword Goofy in them.
    1. I click "Create new smart collection"
    2. Look in: 'my photos' folder
    3. Criteria; select Keywords - contains - and type in Goofy
    4. In results, Match if any criteria are met and both check boxes stay selected.
    5. Click Save.
When I click save, nothing happens, the window stays open and it doesnt seem like it acknowledge my click.
    Suggestions?

    That is odd.
I don't know what influence startup scripts have but you might check and see if you have them checked in preferences/startup scripts.
Is this on an internal dirve?  If external may have permission problems.  Just as a test close Bridge, right click on Bridge icon and choose "run as administrator".
If that does not work I am out of bullets.  Might want to try reset preferences.  Hold down Ctrl key and start Bridge.  Should get a reset window with 3 options.

  • "any" vs "all" when filtering SMART COLLECTIONS

Need help from the pros in this group. I've to teach a specific skill to some students tomorrow, and--I must admit--I'm a little lost. Can sometime provide detailed answers to me? I'd be much obliged.
I need to know the distinction between filtering between "any" and "all" in smart collections.
Basically, what does that mean? I mean, to me, filtering between, say, "any" clips with the a certain attribute would be the same as my wanting to see "all" of the same. I'm a bit embarrassed to say I can't wrap my mind around the concept.
The first choice of "all" vs. "any" is when you go into the first level of the filter, itself:
Then, you have the same options for each filter variable:
I've an excercise where I have students have to filter smart collections based on keywords and shot compositioin. And the devil is in being able to distinguish between "any" and all"
Any help for "any" or "all" of you would be greatly appreciated.

the words "any" and "all" do not refer to clips, but to criteria.
    "any" means "or"
    "all" means "and"
    In your example:
    1) you would set a smart collection for clips satisfying ALL of
         - having the keyword "shoes"
         - being favorites
    2) similarly, but ANY (as in either or)
    3) is a bit of combination of both; you have  (two people or group) AND Favorites, so you need to set "all";
and in the people category choose "any".

  • Sudden ultra-slow importing issue in LR5.2 - possibly smart collection related?

I've been using LR for almost two years now, and have never seen this before:
This evening I wanted to import a series of images from my card reader using LR (just updated to 5.2 from the 5.2RC); I have ~240 images to import. I always have LR set to convert to DNG on import, and also to save a backup of the original raw file (NEF) onto a separate HDD at the same time. LR has always been pretty fast to carry out this process: normally just a few minutes are required for that amount of images (not including rendering previews once the DNGs are imported). However, today it's suddenly become painfully slow - as I type this, it's so far managed to import a mere 58 images, having so far taken about an hour and twenty minutes! Each image is being added one at a time, with a long pause before the next one clocks up in the 'current import' folder. I've never seen such slow performance with LR before.
I wonder if this is a bug connected to the final release of 5.2? I doubt it, as I would have expected to have heard about this by now, but you never know...
I have recently - in the past few days - set up a number (at least 80) of new smart collections that pick up raw images taken at specific focal lengths, as well as another set picking up specific apertures used for each raw shot in the catalogue (unlike the majority of my pre-existing smart collections, these new collections are purely there for interest really - nice to see which focal lengths are the most used for example - but don't serve as an aid to any specific workflow). In short, I've greatly increased the number of smart collections running in my catalogue. Would having a significant number of smart collections slow down the image ingestion process? For example, is LR updating individual smart collections on the fly as images are imported, and thus having to pick through each collection in order to complete the import (I'd always assumed that this would all be added to a central index in the catalogue that the smart collections feed from, but perhaps there are multiple indexes, one for each smart collection)?
I guess the other possible cause could be a corrupt catalogue, although both the catalogue integrity check and optimisation complete without a hitch and everything else seems to be fine.
I'm on Win7 x64, running the LR catalogue and previews from an SSD (with images stored on a separate HDD), with an i7 3770K CPU, 16GB RAM, and an AMD 5850 Radeon graphics card.
I'd be most grateful to hear the opinions of other LR users.
    M

This just started happening to me as well. EVerything was fine and import was what I consider normal until 2 days ago. Had trouble with one camera which kept losing connection. I import from the camera directly...copy as DNG to an internal hard drive. Now all my cameras are importing at a ridiculously slow rate of speed. As far as I know I changed nothing to make this happen. Very odd and cannot find anything about it except for your post. Anyone else out there experiencing this?

  • Smart Collection features I don't see in LR4 beta and wonder why not

I've been playing with the new LR4 beta for all of 10 minutes now, and am disappointed to see that Smart Collections haven't moved forward at all.
    Things I'd hoped to see:
In the Edit Smart Collection window, why when you add a new rule does it always default to "Rating"? How is that the most likely thing I want? Sure, make it the default for the first rule, but thereafter, I think it would be a lot more useful if it added another rule of the type on the line you pressed '+' on. That is, if I have a "Keywords...Doesn't Contain" rule and press the '+' button on that line, there's a better chance that I want another such rule than that I want yet another "Rating" rule.
Continuing the previous, I think the second rule added should follow slightly different logic. If the default Rating rule wasn't changed to a different type, the default for the second rule shouldn't be "Rating" again to clone the first rule, but rather pick the second most likely rule type. Does Adobe have usage statistics for people's Smart Collections to draw on?
For Keywords rules, there aren't negative operators to match all of the positive operators. So we have Contains, and Doesn't Contain, but we have Contains All and lack Doesn't Contain Any, and we have Contains Words but not Doesn't Contain Words. You can get the desired effect by nesting the positive version in a "None of the following are true" sub-rule, but this feels clumsy. Either give us a symmetric set of logical operators, or take away the negatives and give a clean way to negate arbitrary rules without nesting rules when not needed.
Nested rule sets aren't discoverable. I stumbled across this feature by accident, and only then because I knew how to do the same in iTunes. I'd rather see a third button to the right of each rule line that gave a way to create a nesting than the current magic Option trick. One of the great things about Lightroom is how discoverable most things are; you scarcely need the manual. This is a sharp corner than needs to be knocked off.
There's still no way to refer to one Smart Collection from another! iTunes has had this since approximately forever. It is very useful to be able to extract common rule sets from multiple Smart Collections and simply refer to it from others. We call this the DRY Principle in programming, and it's a Good Thing.
No new Smart Collection rule types. At minimum, I'd hoped to see rules for megapixels and pixel dimensions. I'd like to be able to find all the pics with a long edge 640 pixels or less, for example. Megapixels is actually less useful, because it can be fooled by high aspect ratio images. A banner 4000 px wide and 100 px tall is "only" 0.4 Mpx, but it probably doesn't need to be any bigger. (Yes, I'm aware of Jeffrey Friedl's plugin. He wants this built into LR4, too. )
We don't even get one new rule having to do with geoencoding. Just off the top of my head, I'd kind of like to have a Smart Collection that found photos taken within 100 feet of my home's lat/long and didn't contain the keyword "home". I have many such Smart Collections in a Collection Set called "Warnings", each of which automatically checks my photos for something that I often forget.
You can't reorder rules or move them into or out of groups. I have Smart Collections with a dozen or so rules, and some with logic nested three levels. When assembling such complex little beasts, it isn't always clear while building it what logic order will give the desired result. You have to iterate, and that often means taking a perfectly good rule and moving it somewhere else. Lacking the ability to reorganize the existing rules, that means creating a new "Rating" rule, changing its type to match, cut-and-pasting the match criteria [if text] and deleting the old rule. Pfagh.
    That's enough for now.

Ooops, found one new Smart Collection rule: "Metadata Status". One. Want more.

  • Smart Collections BCS4: Multiple drives???

    Hello everyone,
I am trying to create a Smart Collection that gathers images from several external HDs. It seems I can only select one drive...
    Anyone managed to work this?
    Thanks for any help.

You may want to add a feature request for this option, maybe something as the possibility to add another disk criteria with a plus sign as it is already in the find criteria.
You can however create a smart collection for one disk, fill in the desired find criteria and after that action create an other new smart collection and choose another device using the browse option. (the first time the disk starts indexing, depending on the amount of content this can take a while). Using new smart collection does not change the find criteria so you only have to save it.
Then you can drag the content of each smart collection to 1 new simple collection. Hope this is a workaround that is useful for you :-)

  • Learning Filtering: Smart Collections doesn't show all filtered images

I'm studying using Classroom In A Book so this test is small and only using the few images provided on the CIAB CD.
It says in the book that a Smart Collection is a selection filtered according to whatever rules you specify.
This is fine, but when I click the down arrow to the left side of the screen to see the listings under Smart Collections only some of the filtered images are shown. Images that I marked with red are shown as a Smart Collection. Images that I marked with Green (only one) does not show. A single image that I marked with five stars shows up as a Smart Collection, so it can't be that you need more than one item marked before it shows up as a Smart Collection. I made sure that I have highlighted the folder that contains the images (made it local) and that they are displayed in Library Mode and in Grid View.
What might cause some of the images I have applied filter attributes to not to show up in Smart Collections?
    TIA,
    Ken

What does the book say? It says "a Smart Collection is a selection filtered according to whatever rules you specify." It means the rules you specify for you r smart collection. These are default "canned" lightroom collections. The first happens to have the rule "show labelled with red", the second — "show 5-star images". Images tha match the rules defined in a SC - are displayed in that SC.
Double-click any smart collection to see its rules.
To create a new smart collection with your own rules, click Library>New Smart Collection.
The Smart Collections I have were created without me double-clicking on anything. The book just told me to try out some of the ways to mark images and to try out each way. All of a sudden, Smart Collections appeared with some of the marked images. I was just wondering why it stopped at some but did not do them all? Also, what if I don't want Smart Collections at this point? How do I turn it off from making arbitrary Smart Collections without my prompting?
Don't get me wrong dorin_nicolaescu, I am a beginner and know nothing. You sound like you have a good grip on what Smart Collections are and how they work. What you have writtenis helpful, especially the part about "To create a new smart collection with your own rules, click Library>New Smart Collection."
I am still in a Fog about why Smart Collections starts collections on its own.

  • Unable to Create Smart Collection in Bridge CC

I've recently ungraded to Bridge CC, and one of the first things I wanted to get set up again are my smart collections. When I click the "new smart collection" icon the dialog box appears, I specify the type of folder I want to create (exactly how I have done hundreds of times before in CS6) and then I hit "Save" and nothing happens? It shows an active blue "save" button, but when I hit save nothing happens? Anyone else experience anything like this?

I just found an article to which you had replied Jim.
Your comment leads me to believe that my assumption was correct ... if the NAS is connected (original images) then the histogram in the Develop Module should show "Original+Smart Previews".

  • How do I put raw images into smart collections?

I have just created some smart collections, however the CR files were rejected.  Is there a way to include them?  I shoot raw/jpeg, so would like both formats in the collection.
    Thanks.

I just checked Raw images in smart collections. It just worked like any other JPEG files. If u can view thumbnails of Raw in bridge,as per my assumption, there cannot be any problem in creating smart collection. If u can not view thumbnails u may need to update the bridge to read the particular camera model image.any contradiction will be received in right spirit

  • Smart Collection gymnastics

Who finds Smart Collections to behave in a most peculiar fashion? They certainly do when dealing with collections.
If I create a Smart Collection with attributes: "Match all; Collection contains all Jewellery brochure; Rating is 5 stars", then I find the smart collection contains all 5 star images from the "Jewellery brochure" collection. This is expected behaviour.
Now I edit the smart collection: "Match all; Collection contains all Jewellery brochure; Pick Flag is flagged" and expect all flagged images in the "Jewellery brochure" collection to be in the smart collection. Instead, no images appear in the smart collection. This is unexpected behaviour.
It gets weirder. I edit the smart collection: "Match all; Collection contains all Jewellery brochure; Pick Flag is unflagged" and expect only unflagged images in the "Jewellery brochure" collection to be in the smart collection. Instead, all images appear in the smart collection, even those flagged or rejected in the "Jewellery brochure" collection. Again, this is unexpected behaviour.
Now for the truly bizarre. I reject one of the images in the smart collection. Then I edit the smart collection: "Match all; Collection contains all Jewellery brochure; Pick Flag is rejected". I expect all rejected images in the "Jewellery brochure" collection to be in the smart collection but instead get the image previously rejected in the smart collection appearing the smart collection!
It appears that the smart collection is operating on itself and not on the "Jewellery brochure" collection. It is all truly weird and makes smart collections difficult to use. If smart collections are behaving in Adobe's intended fashion then I must be far dumber than any smart collection. If it's related to fact that flags are local then I'd like some insight on the "smarts" within a Smart Collection.

    >Pick and Reject flags are local, not global.
Indeed, but I still maintain (using my examples above) that Smart Collections do not work in an expected manner. The smart collection criteria should translate to an SQL query that, for example, finds all rejects in the Jewellery brochure collection. However, I cannot seem to compose a smart collection to do that.
