Cannot attach files in Mail app - claims file is empty

I have tried to attach several files to to an email through the mail app and when sent out they arrive as empty shells with the same filename.  If i try to drag the file into the window it will appear but the file is empty.  If I use the attach (paperclip) it simply does not appear at all.
I have tried to delete the /Library/Containers/com.apple.mail/Data/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist for it is no longer located in /Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist.
I have tried a Time Machine Restore from several weeks ago but apparently it existed then too.  I have tried repairing permissions through Disk Utility.
when attaching Console says this:
4/13/13 8:54:24.941 AM sandboxd[729]: ([718]) Mail(718) deny file-read-xattr /Users/Username/Desktop/Test copy.JPG
when i load the mail app i get this:
4/13/13 8:53:49.465 AM Mail[718]: Keychain sandbox consume extension error: s=-1 p= Cannot allocate memory

Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folder.
Back up all data.
Triple-click the line below to select it:
~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder — not just its contents — to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Quit and relaunch Mail, and test. If the problem is resolved, you may have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window. If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Post your results.
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • Cannot forward one page PDF files from mail app

My earlier topic had incorrect problem report so I've created a new topic.
The problem is i cannot forward one page PDF file from mail apps. I use imap set up for my work email.
Multi page PDFs, photos, docs, numbers, all forward OK for both windows and Mac formats.

Update: I hade had a reply from the Good Reader app developer saying this is a known issue even for them. However, they don't know if Apple will fix this or not.
Basically mail app treats all one page PDF as if it's an image and will forward it the same as it would an image. Any non-apple based mail programs will have issues viewing this file..

  • How to import .eml files to Mail.app?

    Hello,
I've been trying to find a less tedious way to migrate from Gmail to iCloud. Trying to drag and drop (or simply move via mail.app options) results in errors. I've been able to move over about 10000 of my 60000 messages so far, but it's been a long process disrupted by the aforementioned errors. Therefore, I've decided to simply download the Gmail messages. Unfortunately, they are in .eml files. Obviously I can open them in mail.app if I ever need them, but it would be much easier to import them into mail.app so they are on the iCloud server on not on my mac. This is good because it saves room on my mac, and also makes searching for old messages easier.
So my question is (and I've been searching all over for this), is there still no way to import .eml files into mail.app? Are there no programs that can at least convert .eml to .mbox?
A workable solution would be a time (life) saver and greatly appreciated!!!

In case anyone runs into this issue in the future, here is how I moved Gmail messages to iCloud.
    1) Download an app for mac called Backup Gmail. Proceed to backup all your Gmail messages to your mac by following instructions given. The files will be in .eml.
    2) Download emailchemy from the link above. Proceed to convert .eml messages to .mbox.
    3) Open mail.app and go to File > Import Mailboxes. Follow on screen instructions. Depending on how many messages you have, this can take a while. When done you will see a folder called "import-1" in your mail.app under On My Mac. At this point your Gmail messages are able to be used in mail.app and if you are happy with this, don't go to step 4. In step 4 we will move the messages to your iCloud server.
    4) This is where things get tedious and tricky if you have a lot of messages. Go to each folder in your "import-1" folder and select all messages. Then drag and drop them either in your iCloud inbox or any designated folder in iCloud. It appears that your sent messages are mixed in here, so it's not a clean solution, but the best one I've found so far. This process can take a long time if you have a lot of messages and you might run into some errors, but it works.s
If anyone has an easier solution, please do share!

  • Cannot send email in mail app. using POP account with Wi-Fi

I recently moved to an apartment that only has wireless internet access. Since moving I cannot send email using my POP account, although I can receive email. I was also not able to receive email using my .mac account, but I learned through this forum to change server port to 587 in .mac account and now I can send via .mac account in mail app. But I still cannot sent email with mail app. using my POP account. I changed no settings when I moved, and have never had this problem with cable. Any suggestions?

It all depends on the policy of whoever is the ISP at your new location and the method used by the outgoing (SMTP) server to determine whether you’re a legitimate user.
In an attempt to fight spam, many ISPs restrict the ability to send using an outgoing (SMTP) server not owned by them, usually by blocking port 25 for all traffic outside their own network, which means you cannot send with an SMTP server not owned by them if configured to use that port number. And it may happen the other way around as well, i.e. the outgoing server itself may look at the IP address you’re connecting from and refuse the connection if you’re outside its own network.
Something that often works is changing the outgoing server port to 587 (or whatever alternate port number the outgoing server listens to) instead of 25 and using some form of authentication in Preferences > Accounts > Account Information > Outgoing Mail Server > Server Settings, but two conditions must be satisfied for this change to work: (1) the ISP must not block that port as well AND (2) the outgoing server in question must listen to that port and accept a form of authentication not based on the IP address you’re connecting from.
Independent mail service providers not tied to a particular ISP, such as .Mac and Gmail, do allow authenticated SMTP access on port 587, which is the reason changing the outgoing server port number solves the problem for them if the ISP doesn’t block that port as well.
The following article, for example, describes several ways to address this issue in the case of .Mac, but can be useful for other mail accounts as well (not just .Mac), and applies to all versions of Mac OS X (not just Mac OS X 10.4.2 and earlier as the article states):

  • Package IPA file, *then* edit app descriptor file? - possible?

    Hi,
I've run into a problem. In order to support for Facebook connections in my app, I need to add some lines to my app descriptor file's <InfoAdditions> node:
However, the app descriptor file is generated when I package the IPA from Flash Professional, and there's to way to tell Flash to add something into the <InfoAdditions> node when generating the file. I've even tried to package the IPA, then unzip the IPA file, edit the app descriptor file and reinsert it into the IPA, but that causes the IPA file to become corrupted; apparently it checks for manual edits like these.
Is there any way to edit that <InfoAdditions> node in my app descriptor file before or after it is packaged into the IPA file? I sure don't hope the only way to do it is to use the ADT prompt or something. That tool is godawful and impossible to use (who's using a DOS prompt in 2012??).

Open your iOS settings to set everything else up, don't forget to check the box that says to remember your password. Close that dialog and then edit the app descriptor file to add the Facebook lines, and do a Save. Now select Publish from the File menu in Flash Pro. Don't go back into the iOS settings to publish, that would end up deleting the lines you have added.

  • Cannot delete accounts in Mail.app

Title states the problem. I cannot delete accounts in Mail.app whether in the Mail preferences or Internet Accounts tab of the System Preferences. I have dead e-mail addresses and when I click the minus, in Internet Accounts, the account flashes off and comes right back, complete with a fancy little animation. When I do it in Mail, it tells me "The operation couldn't be completed." and I should try going to Internet Accounts.
How do I purge these accounts from the system? I've already deleted the mailboxes in ~/Library/Mail/V2.
    Thanks.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then take the action that isn't working the way you expect. Select any lines that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

  • 'OSF is undefined' script error in o15apptofilemappingtable.js file when Mail App launched

I created a Mail App for Office using Visual Studio 2013 "App for Office" project template. After I installed the app in my OWA, I am get intermittent errors when launching the app in IE9.
The error is "'OSF' is undefined' and happens when executing script in o15apptofilemappingtable.js file, which is part of Office API. Other browsers are not affected.
Does anyone has an idea how to fix this. The screenshot is attached below:

    Hi Philip,
It's not an issue with a 3rd party. I created a brand new App for Office project in Visual Studio 2013. If you want, I can provide you the code, but it is really only pure Microsoft code, no changes of my own.  I deployed it in my IIS and installed
in Exchange 2013 CU6. I am able to repro the issue with IE9 on Windows 7 and Windows 2008 R2. Here are the steps to reproduce it:
    1.  Check "Display a notification about every script error" and enabled debuggers in IE 9 Internet Options.
    2. Open a message inside the Inbox and start the App. Trigger some events inside the app. In the VS2013 template app, I am using, there are some click handlers attached to the Sender's name. After that, open another message and launch
    the app.
    3. Repeat few times. It may not reproduce on the first try.
The issue usually happens after onblur fires when switching between messages in the inbox while the app is opened or when loading the next message. It looks like onblur fires after some javascript object were already destroyed.
Below are screenshots of the VS2013 template app.
    Thank you,

  • Mail.app Stripping File Extensions

    Greetings,
I have had a very odd issue with Apple Mail stripping away file extensions from the end of attachments. Several folks I send to have issues opening these attachments and have to add the suffix onto the end of the filename (and yes they were on the end when sent). They are using both Macs and Windows boxes.
I have tried to correct the issue in numerous ways including:
    - Defaulting Mail to send Windows friendly attachments
    - Defaulting my OS to always show file extensions
    - Trying numerous SMTP servers
    - Trying both my .Mac account and Earthlink account
    - Using different ISPs to send on all of the accounts and servers listed above
    - Sending in both RTF and plain text messaging
The only way I have been successful in retaining the suffix has been to send through both the Earthlink and .Mac webmail services. The test file I have been using then arrives with no issues.
All of the above makes me pretty sure it is a Mail.app issue. I am about to install Entourage (ick) but would prefer to find a solution. After lots of searching I am throwing it out there to see if anyone else has had the same issue.
    Any thoughts?
PPC iMac and MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

OK, here is the latest. Anyone else feel free to pipe in with possible solutions!
    - Sending to a Mac and receiving in Mailsmith from Mail.app results in the file extension being stripped away. The person I sent to has no issues with anyone else sending her files
    - Sending to the same Mac and using Mail instead of Mailsmith results in the extension being preserved.
    - I set up Outlook Express on my Parallels partition and it seemed to preserve the extension when I sent it from Mail.
So it looks like there is some issue with Apple Mail and some e-mail clients. The ones I know I have had problems sending to are Mailsmith on Mac and Goldmine on Windows. At this point I am thinking it is not a server based problem.
If anyone has any possible solutions I would appreciate the input.

  • HT2954 unable to attach anything in mail app mac os x

When using the mail app in mac os x 10.8.2 I can't attach any files to an e-mail.  When I press the paper clip, I get no action, Attach a file as a menu choice does nothing either.  Help!

As stated in my original post, looking at the contents of the disc shows nothing at all. No files, folders or anything, just a blank white space.
The MacDrive/MediaFour solution, also stated in my post, from what I can tell that's a 3rd party program is it not? The website shows it as a $49 program.
I ran the installation for WinXP with SP2, it installed fine, I then put the OSX DVD into the drive for the drivers. Literally. No other programs were run or installed, as soon as XP was loaded I took the disc out and stuck the OSX disc into the drive. Currently no network card drivers so, can't update via the internet.
I have since then deleted the partition, recreated it, re-ran the installation of XP and same thing.
I'll have to say, I prefer the beta version of Boot Camp better for having made a driver disc. If they left it that way but gave the option to save to USB it would have been much better.
I think I know where the old Boot Camp driver CD is so will try that when back at work on Thursday.
I have to ask about the MediaFour/MACDrive solution though. I have seen a few posts like this and someone always brings that up as a solution. Is it supposed to be on the computer or is it indeed a 3rd party program you purchase? Because I didn't see it as part of the directions for BootCamp and can't see Apple producing something that requires 3rd party software to work.

  • Cannot attach attachments in mail - Leopard

    Hi there,
I get a weird behaviour of mail app. I upgraded from Tiger to Leopard 4 days ago. Until today everything worked as supposed. Suddenly today, without any user-change mail simply stopped adding attachments to new emails. Connection is OK, receiving attachments ok, sending empty emails also OK.
I have installed update 10.5.1, but it did not help...
Anyone experiencing the same problem? Could anyone help, please
    Regards
    Ondrej

Hello and welcome to the Discussions.
Click on Edit before trying to attach a file, place cursor on Attachments, and deselect the option to Always Insert Attachments at the End of the Message. Now try to attach. Let us know if this alters the behavior? I am chasing a better definition on this behavior, but I can experience the problem you are having depending upon whether this new feature is selected.

  • Cannot send email with Mail app-..can't connect to AOL server anymore??

Up until today my MAIL app in my iMac let me use an email address that is from the AOL.com group (netscape.net)…I cannot send emails now because I can't get the computer to connect to the server. My iPad will….but not the desktop. I tried using a different server name; smtp.nestcape.net, which is the one I used in the iPad…but the iMac won't let me change it to that one..so back to the old smtp.aol.com……Still my MAIL app is not recognizing this or letting me connect!?!. I tried creating a new password at the wedpage of that email account.. successfully..but it has made no difference. I am stumped and have wasted half the day trying to deal with this. Anyone else have such an experience? HELP…PLEASE!

Thank you Eric for sending the links. Fortunately after I wrote this post…I don't know what happened but I filled in my mail preference settings for the umteenth time with my new email password and voila! It worked. For some reason however…now when I open the Mail App I do still get a prompt asking me if I want to use this server….and it is, of course, the one and only I have listed.!?!?! The thing that irritates me…is…that I had done NOTHING to cause a problem to begin with. I think my email account at aol (nestcape) may have been hacked and my password stolen or compromised in some way??...and perhaps that caused a glitch in my mail app??? I am no techy, but I should have started out with my intuition and changed the password first before going mental….When something like this happens it makes one feel so vulnerable.…I usually feel well secured with my lone iMac and now my new iPad…ANYWAY…thank tyou  for addressing my issue and I have bookmarked those links…for future reference which I hope I never need. Hey..is that your kitty??? She is beeeooootiful!
Take care and again, thanx~ D

I cannot seem to send any mail from my desktop mail app for some reason (it USED to work!!).

I just received the update last night. Now today I am also unable to send. I called support, Apple said it was my ISP, they said it was Apple. I still can't send. I think it is Apple, but limited support has not helped.

  • Mail Security certificate issue and cannot send email from mail app on surface 2

well im have the same issue like others and coincidently we all started to have this issue just recently like few days ago. Please help us out as on the surface 2 mail app my Hotmail account ( The main account )
cannot send mails and on the account setting it says there is a problem with the server security certificate. So how to fix it ???

Does this issue only happen with Hotmail account? Have you tested the account in other mail programs or send a email via web mail in a browser? What is the result if we delete the account then recreate the account?

  • Receiving attachment problems in Mail.app

I'm having a problem with attachments being received by Mail.app (version 3.3 on 10.5.4). Basically, the messages show that attachments are associated with the message, but they have zero size. I'm connecting to an IMAP server over SSL (uw-imapd on Debian). If I use Thunderbird on the same iMac the attachments are there just fine. This seems to be related to people sending mail from AOL.
Any suggestions on where I should look for a solution to the problem?

The icons are there at the bottom of the message. On mouse over they say "Not yet Downloaded". If I control-click the icon and select "Quick look" I get:
"Mail was unable to save the attachment “CIMG7512.JPG” to disk. Please verify your downloads folder exists and is writable."
    Control-click/open results in nothing.
Attachments from other messages work fine, so the download folder exists and is writable.
There are 3 attachments. Header on first is:
