Cannot attach images in Mail

Hi,
I am wondering if this is just me, I tried to attach an image by dragging and dropping the actual image in the body of the email. It shows a Plus sign on the mouse pointer but nothing has been attached. Then I tried using the attach button on the compose window but it still does not work.
However, if I drag the file onto the dock, Mail will display a new compose message with the attachment.
So does anyone have the same problem??

I've been having issues as well. After toggling the "insert attachments at end" and getting varied results, I stumbled upon another potential workaround. In entirely blank messages, attachments cannot be added unless the sender first places the cursor in the message body and hits return once (that is with "insert at end" selected).
If replying to a message, this isn't any problem. It seems that Mail needs to know where the end of the message is, and can only do so if there is existing text (a reply or newly composed message), or at least a carriage return.

  • Cannot view images in Mail

    Hi All
Strange one, but ever since moving to Snow Leopard on the MacBook Pro, images will not load in the viewing screen of Mail. I have fiddled with the 'Display Remote Messages in HTML' preference, and for a second when I tick/un-tick that box I can see the image in Mail, before it disappears again.
I have never had this issue before...and the only new thing is moving to the MacBook Pro (via Time Machine) with Snow Leopard.
Any help on this would be great, as with my business I am unable to view stats in vital emails.

I've been having this issue since Tiger and cannot fix it (unless I reformat my mac and start from scratch). There has to be a corrupt preference file somewhere. Basically, no matter what option I choose in mail (either display remote images or no), the images NEVER display. It's something within my mail files as when I installed 10.6, I went with a fresh install, but manually copied over my mail and prefs.
It's been an issue for 2+ years. I have an old thread on these boards that never got to the bottom of it then, either. Argh.

  • Attaching images in Mail

    Hello!
I've only recently started using Mail.
I work from home, freelance as an illustrator.
As you can imagine I have to send a lot of images, usually as JPGs or PDFs.
I'm having a major problem with this:
Mail converts the PDFs into small thumbnails in the line of the email,
    which is fine.
but it's not attaching the file itself.
for example, I need to send a client a 300dpi A3 poster for them to print.
the image they are recieving is the thumbnail alone, 300Kb JPG
the file I need to send them is a 3MB PDF
I've tested it to three different recieving mail clients and it happens with them all. This is going to make Mail impossible for me to use for my work if this cannot be resolved
    help!

    pez_queen,
When I attach a document/picture an "Image Size" selection choice appears in the bottom right hand corner of the "New Message" window. This selection includes choices for:
    Actual Size
    Small
    Medium
    Large
Have you tried choosing another size?
    ;~)

  • Cannot attach files to Mail

Basic mail service is misbehaving on both computers: iBook G4 and IBook G3, both Tiger X.4.3 Cannot send a single or multiple attachment. Single attachment is never over 1.1 MB. Time of day is not a factor.
The G4 shows only "choose" not "browse" button: files will not attach. Just get error message.
The G3 shows "browse" button and I can upload file, but the mail stays stuck in the Outbox. I have tried every possible configuration of .Mac and SBCglobal mail.
Frequently, just plain mail gets stuck in Outbox.
Problem exists whether using .Mac or just plain Mail.
Problem exists in Safari and Internet Explorer, even using Yahoo.
2WIRE58 SBCGlobal claims it isn't their problem.
No improvement with modem attached compared to the airport.
Nothing in Apple or .Mac help answers question.

  • Cannot attach files in Mail app - claims file is empty

I have tried to attach several files to to an email through the mail app and when sent out they arrive as empty shells with the same filename.  If i try to drag the file into the window it will appear but the file is empty.  If I use the attach (paperclip) it simply does not appear at all.
I have tried to delete the /Library/Containers/com.apple.mail/Data/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist for it is no longer located in /Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist.
I have tried a Time Machine Restore from several weeks ago but apparently it existed then too.  I have tried repairing permissions through Disk Utility.
    when attaching Console says this:
    4/13/13 8:54:24.941 AM sandboxd[729]: ([718]) Mail(718) deny file-read-xattr /Users/Username/Desktop/Test copy.JPG
when i load the mail app i get this:
4/13/13 8:53:49.465 AM Mail[718]: Keychain sandbox consume extension error: s=-1 p= Cannot allocate memory

Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folder.

Quit and relaunch Mail, and test. If the problem is resolved, you may have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window. If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Post your results.
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.

    HI A macho mouse,
Welcome to the Apple Discussion Pages.
Can you tell us if your Mac Firewall is on ?
IF so is the port 5190 listed for UDP as well as TCP ?
The same would apply to your modem if you are using Port Triggering to open the ports - this also need s to specify that port 5190 is open to UDP as welll as TCP.

  • Cannot attach items in Mail after security update

This may be a bit of post hoc ergo propter hoc, but since applying the security update yesterday, I am unable to attach files (.jpg .pdf .xls .doc .gif have all been attempted) in Mail (Version 2.1.3 (753.1)).
I have tried by dragging files into the message both before and after the signature and using the attachment button on the message. I have put text in the subject line and body in case the signature were not enough to allow the attachment, this did not work.
I have verified and repaired the disc permissions just in case and have run the unix cleanup routines, these did not fix the issue.
I have tried this on two separate accounts (one IMAP the other POP) with the same result. I have not experienced this issue in the past.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

  • Cannot attach attachments in mail - Leopard

    Hi there,
I get a weird behaviour of mail app. I upgraded from Tiger to Leopard 4 days ago. Until today everything worked as supposed. Suddenly today, without any user-change mail simply stopped adding attachments to new emails. Connection is OK, receiving attachments ok, sending empty emails also OK.
I have installed update 10.5.1, but it did not help...
Anyone experiencing the same problem? Could anyone help, please
    Regards
    Ondrej

Hello and welcome to the Discussions.
Click on Edit before trying to attach a file, place cursor on Attachments, and deselect the option to Always Insert Attachments at the End of the Message. Now try to attach. Let us know if this alters the behavior? I am chasing a better definition on this behavior, but I can experience the problem you are having depending upon whether this new feature is selected.

  • Cannot attach documents in Mail?

I am unable to attach any documents/files to emails in Mail.  Have tried both clicking the paper clip icon and through the Attach Files function in the File menu but nothing happens other than my computer hanging for a minute.
Sending emails without attachments no problem.

  • Attaching pictures to Mail from within iPhoto

For my sister in law I am trying to find out, why she cannot attach photos to mails anymore, i.e. from within iPhoto. In iPhoto, when you select one or more photos, then click on Mail on icon list below the photos, the photos are prepared for attachment. In a pop-up window you can choose from different sizes, for example. When you click on ok, a progress bar appears. Once the process is complete nothing happens, Mail does not open. Also, there is no draft mail created in Mail. What went wrong? How do I fix it? Attaching photos by dragging them on the Mail icon in the dock works fine, though. Thanks a lot in advance.

Given that iPhoto goes through the motions of resizing etc, I would suspect the problem is at the Mail end.
Has she tried repairing permissions with Disk Utility?

  • Cannot save attached files in Mail

My problem has to do with using the Mail program on a MacBook Pro running Mavericks. Lately when I receive an email with a file attachment (image, Word doc, PPT file, whatever) I cannot save the attached file.
I point to the attachment "download" dialog box, and choose either the "save all" option or the specific attachment filename shown, then navigate to the desired folder and hit "save".  But no file is created.
The attachments are there - if I look at the same email using the gmail web-based mail utility I can easily download it. It's a problem with the Apple Mail client.
    Any suggestions?  Thank you.
    Jerry

Zips and other archived/compressed files won't work as expected on an iPad since you can't just preview/view the contents directly from the attachment currently like you can with quicktime-compatible or other common media formats. Basically you would need to be able to save the zip file to the finder and extract it, and view the contents from there. But since the iPad doesn't have anything like a user-accessible Finder, it's tricky to implement.
There may be third-party apps that deal with this eventually (or maybe even something from the upcoming 4.0 software, who knows), but it would probably be easier to just have people send you attachments that aren't zipped up for now.

  • Cannot load images anymore in incoming mail in V29

I cannot get images to load in incoming mail since installing V29, nor do I get the option to allow it to do so above the email

I'm having the same problem. No embedded images display (attached images do display) and no notice above the email to allow images either temporarily or permanently. V 24.5

  • How can you add an image in Mail without being an attachment?

How can you add an image in Mail without being an attachment?
In otherwords I'd like to put my logo in the email not as an attachment but as an image.
Is there a simpel solution to this problem?

    PBN1 wrote:

    You don't.
It's not possible. The e-mail protocol is designed for text; anything else has to go as an attachment.
Different mail clients (such as Mail.app, the mail client bundled with Mac OS X) may have different ways of handling such attachments, but they are still attachments. Each mail client has its own rules and methods, so one may display a picture as if it were in the body of the message, but another client may do something completely different.
A way of faking it is to format your message in HTML (which is a kind of text). The image is hosted on a remote server, not added to the message; instead, you include a link to it in the body of the message, as you would when building a web page. (This is also what the two tips helpfully provided by X423424X do, except that the link to the image is added in the signature, rather than the body of the message.) What exactly happens to it is, again, at the discretion of the mail client. In my case, for instance, displaying images in HTML messages is turned off, and will stay resolutely off.

  • Cannot attach with the attachment  button in mail. Can drag them in directly.  But they won't open.  or are corrupted

Cannot attach attachments via the attachment button in mail.
I can drag items into the draft but then they either wont open or are corrupted.
    Help!!!

At some point, Apple started doing this annoying stupid thing with certain app updates (among them QuickTime Player, and iTunes, and Mail) where if those apps do not reside in /Applications they will not be updated properly.
Correct. It has always been that way in OS X. Applications, particularly from Apple, belong in the Applications Folder, where update installers can find them and link to associated system files that may be updated as well without you realising it.

  • No longer able to attach .jpg images in Mail...

I'm having problems attaching .jpg images in Mail. This problem started two or three days ago. I can attach .zip files, but I'm unable to attach .pdf or .jpg files. I have not tried other formats, as these are the two most common formats used.
Has anyone else experienced this issue?
    Cheers. -m

There was a discussion posted on this a while back:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1545970&start=0&tstart=0
I get this problem on my PPC, but not my Intel machine. Instead of using Server Admin, best to set this value (maxAttachmentSize) in the /etc/wikid/wikid.conf file. The value in Server Admin will still show '0', but I was still able to attach files up to the size I specified in the wikid.conf file.
