  • Insufficient privileges, permissions error, cannot authorise computer for Itunes

I am trying to authorise my computer to itunes and get this error message: "The required file was not found or has a permissions error. Correct this permissions problem and try again, or deauthorize this computer if the permissions cannot be changed."
How do I add my computer to the devices on itunes if I do not appear to have the correct privileges or permissions?

Yes, this worked for me.  I was hesitant to use terminal b/c I know that an error could wipe out my hard drive or render my computer unusable.  So to be SURE I didn't make an error, I carefully copied the command from that page you recommended and *pasted* it into terminal.  In my case, the folder was there, so I needed the command to change permissions on the folder, not to create one.  What was confusing for me was that the iTunes error message said to change permissions in the FINDER, which is what I was trying to do.  It didn't mention Terminal, and people who are not computer savvy or comfortable using a command line app will be intimidated by Terminal.  What would really be helpful is if Apple included a link to a page like this in their error message.
Also, before I could do anything in terminal, I had to go change my admin password (it had been a blank password before and that's not acceptable for making changes in Terminal).  People need to know how to do that, too.  For the casual user who just wants to watch or listen to their iTunes purchases, this can all be pretty intimidating and frustrating.  I like to experiment and see what different GUI commands do, and try out freeware, but even I am cautious about using Terminal.

Did you fail to maintain a backup copy?
If so, then you can buy a third party program to extract the music not purchased from itunes.
Itunes purchases can be transferred to your computer:  File>Transfer Purchases.

  • Synched iTunes on computer with iTunes on iPad.  I cannot find my slideshow (slideshow.movie) anywhere on the iPad.  (Not in Videos, either)  Where is it???

Synched my iTunes on computer with iTunes on iPad.  All synched, but cannot find my slideshow inn iTunes on iPad. (Format is slideshow.movie and is under Movies in iTunes).  Not under Videos, either.  Where is it?

Are you sure that the movie was transferred? You actually checked the movie to sync in the movies tab in iTunes?
Actually after re- reading your post - these are the supported video formats for the iPad. I am not a video converting expert, but I don't see that particular format listed here.
Video formats supported: H.264 video up to 1080p, 30 frames per second, High Profile level 4.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format

  • Cannot sync ipod with itunes after setting up new computer with newest version of itunes

Cannot sync ipod with itunes after setting up on new computer, only songs which tansferred were songs bought on new computer after set up, tried to sync songs and it deleted old songs from ipod.  How can I get them back on ipod??  They are showing in music library on itunes still.

If the iPod database gets corrupted, it will add files to "Other" instead of where they really belong.
Restoring the iPod will erase this database and recreate it.
And if I do this, won't I just have the same issue when my iPod is re-updated to the most recent version again?
No, it shouldn't. This is why you Restore the iPod. It erases the corrupt database.

  • Error with iTunes "The iPod Group Storage cannot be used with iTunes...."

I bought a usb hub to accomodate my multiple usb devices. I plugged my iPod into this and got the following error:
"The iPod Group Storage cannot be used with iTunes because it is not formatted properly."
I plugged the iPod into the computer rather than the hub. Same thing
Tried to restore, per the error message's direction. It says it has restored it to factory settings, then it brings up that message again.
I uninstalled and re-installed iTunes. Same thing. It was playing fine but it needs re-charging now and it won't because of the error.
Does anyone have any ideas? I don't know what to do now.
    Thanks.

Try to reset your iPod using the recovery mode as described in this support article
However, this will erase the iPod completely. If you have an iTunes-backup on your computer you can restore your iPod settings later from the backup.
I have never tried this in WIndows, however. The procedure might be slightly differeent.

  • Is my ipad2 dependant on a computer with itunes?

I recently bought an ipad 2.  (wi-fi, just upgraded to IOS 5)  We bought this because our home computer died, I don't do much on a computer so I've been told by several people that a tablet would be fine.   I quickly learned that I needed to borrow a mac with itunes to get my ipad going, the IT department at work hooked me up and let me get going.   The also let me upgrade my IOS.   At the apple store the guy told me with a connection kit I could get the music from my ipod shuffle to the itunes on my ipad2.    But I can't get it to work.
So question 1 - Is there a way to get the music from my shuffle to my ipad without another computer with itunes on it?  I have the camera connection kit
Question 2 - My expectation was that the ipad was a complete stand alone device.   Am I going to have to keep going back to a mac/pc with itunes to do things from time to time?
I guess since I'm at it, when using my camera connection kit to move pics from my camera to my ipad I am able to get the kit to recognize and upload by pulling the Mem Card out of the camera, but I cannot get the kit to recognize the USB if I just try to connect direct from camera to ipad.
I'm new with the ipad and not a computer guy to start with so any help is greatly appreciated.   Thank you!

Prior to IOS 5, the iPad was not a standalone device. It needed to be synced to iTunes. Now you can use it without a need for that. However, music cannot be transferred via the connection kit. If you have purchased songs you can load them from icloud
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519
For unpurchased you will need iTunes to sync or iTunes match to put them in the cloud.
For the other question, are you receiving an error when you connect via USB?

  • When i try and authorize my computer with itunes it says the itunes store is temporarily unavailable

when i try and authorize my computer with itunes it says the itunes store is temporarily unavailable

    Hello Alark26,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
If you're continuing to receive the error where you cannot connect to the iTunes Store, I'd like you to please follow the directions outlined below.
    Troubleshoot issues in Windows
If you haven't been able to connect to the iTunes Store for more than a day (and other customers on our discussion boards aren't experiencing similar issues) a software or Internet service provider (ISP) configuration issue may be blocking your access to the iTunes Store. Find out which ports and servers need to be allowed for iTunes Store access.
Update iTunes to the latest version.
If iTunes Store appears empty and only displays the message iTunes Store, follow these steps.
Try the steps to troubleshoot iTunes Store connectivity in Windows.
As with all firewalls not manufactured by Apple, you may need to configure Windows Firewall to allow iTunes to access the iTunes Store. Follow these steps for Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7.
Try disabling any proxies built-in to Windows. You should avoid proxies because they can cause issues.
If you're receiving a specific error message, follow these steps.
If the issue still persists, contact your Internet service provider and confirm that these ports and serversare enabled over your network.
Note: The hosts file may be blocking the iTunes Store.
Microsoft's article How do I reset the hosts file back to the default? has instructions and a FixIt to have Windows try to reset the hosts defaults for you.
Note: Some workplaces may put internal resources in the hosts file and may block iTunes Store. The FixIt doesn't work for Windows 8.
To create a copy of your hosts file and replace it with an empty hosts file, follow the instructions below:
You can find the hosts file at: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC.
Select the hosts file. There should now be a duplicate of the hosts file named "Copy of hosts" (Windows XP) or "hosts-copy" (Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8).
Drag the original hosts file to your desktop.
Right-click the duplicate file and choose Open. You may be prompted to choose the program you want to use to open this file. Double-click Notepad.
When Notepad opens, choose Edit > Select All.
    Choose Edit > Delete.
    Choose File > Save.
    Close Notepad.
Right-click the duplicate file, and choose Rename.
Type "hosts" (without quotation marks) and press Enter.
Restart your computer and try connecting to the iTunes Store.
If you still can't connect to the iTunes Store, your security software or firewall may be blocking the ability of iTunes to communicate with the Internet. Learn how to resolve security software issues.

If the steps above didn't resolve your issue, be sure that your specific alert isn't listed as a possible iTunes Store error. Then, if your issue is still unresolved, follow these steps.

  • De-authorizing itunes? Several of my authorized pc's have died, and have no way to deauthorize iTunes on them. Now I am unable to synch purchases on my Iphone to new computer with iTunes because I already have 5 computers authorized. What can be done?

Several of my authorized pc laptops and desktops have completely died over the years, and have no way to deauthorize iTunes on them. Now I am unable to synch purchases on my Iphone to new computer with iTunes because I already have 5 computers authorized. What can be done?

Deauthorise all to reset to zero, then authorize again.
    Following quote from Apple Support:
If you need to authorize your new computer and are unable due to already having five authorized computers, you can deauthorize all computers by doing the following:
Click iTunes Store on the left side of iTunes.
If you're not signed in to the store, click the Account button, then enter your account name and password.
Click the Account button again (your Apple ID appears on the button), enter your password, and then click View Account.
In the Account Information window, click Deauthorize All.
Note: You may only use this feature once per year. The Deauthorize All button will not appear if you have fewer than two authorized computers. If you need assistance on using this feature, please contact iTunes Store support via email (http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/store/).

I want to use an old 3 GS iPhone that is no longer in service as a phone now as just an iPod to play music. When I connect the phone to the computer with iTunes running, iTunes says it can't connect to the device because it didn't get a valid response from the device. How can I get the system to recognize the phone, and let me rename it as my iPod, instead of my phone?
As an aside, the current installed operating system on this old iPhone is 4.2.1, but that wasn't one of the selectable options in the operating system list dropdown below. Don't know if that makes any difference.

  • HT5649 Our family has a shared computer with itune software. We have multiple apple devices and multiple itunes accounts. Can we share the computer and iTunes software to back up each apple device separately?

How do multiple users with multiple devices share one computer with iTunes software to back up multiple devices and individual iTune libraries?

    Hi Goodguy147,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
The easiest way to have multiple users with multiple devices share a single computer is to create a User Account on your Windows PC for each person.  Each person should also have a unique Apple ID.  That will keep each individual's iTunes Library separate from the others and each individual can associate and backup several devices to their iTunes library.

The article below is a troubleshooting article for Windows.  I'm just quoting the section from it that explains how to create user accounts:
iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8: Fix unexpected quits or launch issues
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1717?viewlocale=nl_nl
Follow the steps below to create a new user account in Windows Vista or Windows 7:
    Choose Start > Control Panel.
Open "Add or remove user accounts." (If you're using the Classic view in Windows Vista, open "User Accounts," and then open "Manage another account.")
Select "Create a new account" and follow the instructions to set up the account.
Once you create the new account, choose     Start > Log Off.
Log in to the new user account.

    Yes, you will.
Do you have the songs still?
