  • Cannot erase Macbook Air SSD

    Hi,
I'm having a Macbook Air with 128GB SSD and 4GB RAM with OS X Mavericks. I was using my Mac normally but suddenly chrome got stuck. So I held down the power button and shut down the Mac. When I switched my Mac on again, it wont start.
I tried to repair my SSD using diskutility from Recovery Partition. But it says something is wrong with my Partition Map and that I have to erase and reinstall OS X. But I cannot erase my SSD. The progress bar gets stuck at 50%.
When I used command line diskutil eraseDisk, it shows Waiting for disks to reappear and is stuck at 50%.
Is it a problem with my SSD. If yes, will I be eligible for Warranty?

Is this MBA functional?  Will it boot to an OSX?
You may try OPTION+COMMAND+R which would install the original OSX.
You could get an appropriate enclosure for the SSD and connect it to a working Mac and erase it that way.
    Ciao.

  • Cannot connect Macbook Air to Samsung TV via HDMI

Hello, I have been completely unable to get my Macbook Air (13-inch, Mid 2011, running OS X 10.9.1) to connect to my new Samsung TV (UN32EH5000F)  I feel like I have tried everything I can think of, have spent hours now looking for a solution online.  I also consulted Samsung tech support, who were not helpful in that they insisted the problem is with my Macbook (because the HDMI port on the TV works when I hook up my DVD player).
I'm trying to connect my Macbook Air to the TV using a Mini DisplayPort (Thunderbolt Compatible) to HDMI cable.  I have gotten the connection to work on my LG monitor (via the same HDMI cable), but this did require some switching back and forth between sources before it would appear as an external monitor on my Mac and doesn’t seem to work reliably.  Sometimes I can get the LG monitor to work as an external display over HDMI and sometimes I can’t.
I have also gotten the TV to work ONCE on my Macbook Pro (15-inch, Late 2008, running 10.9) by plugging the cable into the Mini DisplayPort while the computer was asleep.  I have not been able to replicate this in many tries since that first time.
When I insert either end of the cable (either into the TV or the Macbook Air), the screen flashes as if recognizing that the cable is plugged in, but the TV always says "No Signal."
    I have also tried:
Every possible combination of plugging in cables
Shutting down my Mac and the TV and rebooting
Switching the source on my TV back and forth
Plugging the HDMI cable into both ports on the TV
Changing the name of the HDMI source on my TV (to available options like "PC", "DVI", "DVI PC", etc.)
    Battery power and AC adaptor
Resetting the PRAM and the SMC
Using the Option button in Display preferences to click “Detect Displays”
    Any help would be appreciated!

  • Why cannot my macbook air read my external hard drive?

First of all, I have an external hard drive (Western Digital - WD5000H1U-00). I went to their website, downloaded the WD driver installer, and then installed the drivers. I even had restarted my MBA but when i plug the usb cable of my external hard drive, MBA can't read it. Why is that so? In my other computers, the external hard drive could be read.

It's probably formatted for Windows. Plug the hard drive into your MacBook Air. Open Disk Utility (User Name>Applications>Utilities). Go to the Partition tab. Select 1 under Volume Scheme and also click on options and choose GUID. Click Apply. That's it. But if you have any files on that drive, back it up because this option is going to erase your drive.

  • Cannot charge macbook air.

first time encounter that i plug in my macbook air to charge and the amber/green light doesn't come on, and my macbook doesn't charge. How can I resolve this issue?

Press the option key down and click the battery icon in the menu bar.
If the condition is "Normal", reset SMC.
    Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    Choose the method for:
"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
If this does not help, you may have to take the computer to the Apple store to have it checked out.
    Best.

  • Cannot restore MacBook Air

Mac started glitching and then shut itself down. Now it will only come back on in recovery mode and ask me to reinstall OSX 10.7. I cannot access the app store to get it and I never purchased 10.7, my computer came preloaded with 10.6. Is there any way that I can do this without purchasing the software? It won't let me erase it, re-partition, or buy it and also if I try to just do a reinstall of Lion it says verifying eligability with Apple and gets stuck in a loading loop that I can't escape without manually shutting the computer down.

You will have to contact Apple Customer Service for duplicate installation media.  Have you MBA serial number ready and there is a charge.
I suspect that your problem is that Lion is registered under a different Apple ID, therefore you will have to start with Snow Leopard and establish your own Apple ID.
    Ciao.

  • Macbook Air will not find network wireless printer, ipad   PC print ok

Deskjet 3055a printer on wireless connection to Virgin Superhub.
ipad and a PC print ok.
I cannot add MacBook Air (in same room) to the Network.
    Please help.

    Hi Dagnabit47,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like there is an issue adding a wireless printer on your MacBook Air. The article linked below will walk you through the process of adding the printer and ensure the MacBook Air setup correctly.
OS X Mavericks: Set up a printer
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14143
    Add a Wi-Fi printer
Follow the instructions that came with the printer to connect it to your Wi-Fi network and turn it on. Use the instructions to unpack the printer, install ink or toner, and add paper. For more information, see this article:
Apple Support article: Connecting a Wi-Fi printer to your Wi-Fi network
Choose Apple menu > Software Update to make sure OS X has the latest information about printer software it can download from Apple. If Software Update doesn’t list an update for your printer, you have the latest software.
Open a document to print, then choose File > Print.
Open the Printer pop-up menu and choose your printer in the Nearby Printers section of the menu. If you don’t see your printer, choose Add Printer from the Printer pop-up menu.
A dialog appears listing printers on your local network. It may take a minute or two for your printer to appear.
If you’re asked for an administrator name and password
Select your printer when it appears in the list, and then click Add. OS X automatically uses AirPrint if your printer supports it, or it selects printer software (also called a printer driver) and downloads it from Apple if necessary.
    I hope this helps.

  • Configure MacBook Air at Apple Premium Resellers in Singapore

    Hello Community,
I am Abhimanyu, located in Singapore. I have a question for you all: Can I configure MacBook Air at one of the Apple Premium Resellers?
I want to buy 13" MacBook Air, but I need 8 GB Memory, instead of default 4 GB memory. Can I get my system configure at one of Apple Premium Resellers? Is it safe to do it? Does that void warrenty?
BTW, what is difference between Apple Premium Resellers and Apple Authorised Reseller?
If I cannot get MacBook Air configure at Apple Premium Resellers, can I get it configure at Apple Authorised Resellers?

The MacBook Air's memory has to be configured at the factory, it is not possible to change it as it is directly built in to the logic board. See if your reselled can special order one for you from Apple. You can also order them yourself online at http://store.apple.com/sg
    Best of luck.

  • I had Microsoft Office installed in my Macbook Air by one of the technicians in the store, it was working fine the first week but after that it started popping a notice saying it cannot verify my suscription online and now I cannot open any documents?

I just bought a Macbook Air almost a month now. When I bought it, the technician installed Microsoft Office 365 as they were having a promotion at the time. However after a week of using it, it started popping up a notice saying that it cannot verify Microsoft Office. I still managed to open the word document but as of today, it will not open. I took it to the Mac store last week, and they said that there was nothing wrong with it and they could not figure out any problem.
I don't know what to do and I am in desperate need of help. I cannot open my documents at all and I have my research paper that I need to finish writing. This is very disappointing and extremely stressful for me. If anyone has any suggestions of how this can be fixed, please let me know. I do not want to lose my hard work =(

Microsoft Office 365 is a subscription - based service. You have to pay for it... and keep paying for it... and paying for it... as in 365 days a year... or lose your hard work.
Office Home Premium is a mere $10 a month, but a convenient annual subscription is only $100 a year. This is a substantial discount to Microsoft's Office 365 business products ($150 / employee / year).
Such a deal! Are you not absolutely thrilled?
Here are some slightly more reasonable alternatives, all of which are compatible with their Office equivalents:
    LibreOffice (donation-supported)
NeoOffice ($10 but older version is free if you can find it)
    OpenOffice (completely free)
    Numbers ($19.99)
    Pages ($19.99)

  • Cannot install Windows 8 on MacBook Air

I am trying to install Win 8.1 Pro with Boot Camp on a 13 inch MacBook Air (early 2014) with 4G RAM and 256G storage. The machine is a new purchase and the OS was upgraded from Mavericks to Yosemite before attempting to use Boot Camp.
I have made a number of attempts at this using both a USB/ISO and DVD in an external drive (non-Apple). All attempts fail at the same point where Windows setup attempts to install on the BOOTCAMP drive. The message is “Windows cannot be installed to this hard disk space. Windows must be installed to a partition formatted to NTFS.” There are 4 hard disks listed
      Drive 0 partition 1:EFI   200 MB    173 MB freeSystem
      Drive 0 partition 2        53.4GB      0.0MB free Primary
      Drive 0 partition 3         619MB       0.0MB free Primary
      Drive 0 partition 4:Bootcamp 179.5GB     179.5GB free Primary
On returning to OSX after this the Air works fine and Disk Utility has a Macintosh HD (57GB) and Bootcamp (format is MS-DOS FAT32) (192.7GB).
    I have tried the following:
    1. Ensuring that there was only one external device attached ie the USB created by Boot camp
    2. Swapping the USB port ie have used both USB ports
    3. Trying to install Win from a DVD
    4. Different partition sizes
I am at a loss as to what to do next. Any suggestions welcome.
    Bernard

    1. Select Partition4: Bootcamp. You should see advanced Options.
    2. Click Format and convert the partition to NTFS.
    3. Click Next.

Early 2009 MacBook Air. On startup no keyboard or mouse me to login. Neither is the USB working so I cannot use an external mouse or keyboard either. If I keep restarting the machine suddenly sometime I get mouse and keyboard control and I am able to login and work. • HT1338 cannot connect my MacBook Air to a projector  -does not detect and 2nd monitor. I have a new Mini port to VGA cable made by apple. When I read online I see that many people have the same problem - Is this an Apple defect??????????????????

I cannot connect my MacBook Air to a projector - It will not detect a 2nd monitor or display. I am using an Apple made Mini Display port to VGA adapter. As I read online I see that many other peple are having the same problem. Is this an Apple defect!!???? If so it just burst the bubble about how great macs are. I never had a problem with that on a PC. I hope I am wrong. What can you tell me?

    Hi There,
I have had the exact same issue but with a projector.
The issue lies with Mountian Lion 10.8.2.
I tried many a combination with no luck to get HDMI working.
Took my mac into the apple store and came to the conclusion it was the software, so I asked them to install 10.8 onto it (this is destructive so a backup is a must)
Bought my macbook home and voila, now displaying through my projector.
There is a small graphics update after 10.8.1 which seems to be the cause.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks.

Still the same problem. How can I continue to install when it keeps asking for a password it doesn't recognize over and over again? How many times do I have to reset it then? Advice please

You have to provide your computer's administrator password in order to install Flash Player.
