Cannot auto-connect to wi-fi after sleep

I'm having troubles to reconnect to wi-fi once iPhone 3G goes to sleep mode (once auto-lock is activated when not being used for 1 minute).
This started to happen after 2.1 update.
My son's iPhone 3G which is still running version 2 firmware does not suffer from this.
We have a Belkin wi-fi router in house and when connected the signal strength is full all around the house, but whenever I "wake-up" my iPhone from Sleep mode, it instantly connects to 3G and never auto-connects to wi-fi (even when I'm standing next to the router). It can see and finds the router (under wi-fi settings) but is refusing to connect to it even when I select it.
I have to force this by switching on and off the airplane mode, then it reconnects to wi-fi instantly with full strength.
This useless excercise is so frustrating, especially considering that local provider Telstra is charging $2 per MB for casual use
of data on their 3G network and my iPhone is just happily eating up costly 3G bandwidth when I have a 4 mbits/sec internet connection over home wi-fi network.
Anybody else noticed this after 2.1 upgrade ?
Router is configured for WEP encryption, I've already rebooted my iPhone and the router.
Cheers

I noticed that it takes a few seconds longer to reconnect to wi-fi after sleep, but it has consistently connected.

  • Iphone 4s cannot auto connect to home wifi after updating to ios 6.1.2

My iphone 4s will not auto connect to my home wifi after updating to IOS 6.1.2.  I can manually connect to my phone to wifi but it will get disconnect if I'mnot using the phone. Any way to reslove?

Once the phone goes into sleep mode, it is supposed to auto disconnect from wifi to save battery. Are you saying that once you wake the phone up it will not auto connect at that time?
Suggest you try and forget the network, then go in and try the reset network settings again and then try to rediscover the network and connect again. Have you tried to do a reset of the phone, but holding the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release?

  • Not auto-connecting on restart or after sleep - help

I have an Apple Airport Extreme router configured with 128 WEB.
When I start up my MacBook I have to go up to the Airport status and select the network. Since I have already entered and saved the password, it connects and then all is fine - until it sleeps or I shut it down. Then I have to go back up to the status icon and reselect. There are no other wireless networks detectable.
Now what is weird is that I have an intel iMac and it always connects. When I go to the sys prefs > Network on my iMac it says by default join Automatic. But on the sys prefs > Network on my MacBook it only gives me the option of joining a specific network. I tell it to automatically join that network but it doesn't do it!
Both OSs are up to date.
    Any thoughts?

That happened to me on both my macbooks i just found a fix go to your network settings and have it only connect to prefered networks then ad your netowork 5 times this causes the computer to keep rescaninggng

iCloud email on OSX 10.8 does not connect to the server after sleep.  The only way I can reconnect the iCloud email is to restart the computer. Does anyone have any ideas how to resolve this issue?

I would suggest you try opening "Mail">click on "Mailboxes" in the Menu Bar> and select "Rebuild" from the list.  That may solve it.

  • Cannot automatically connect to wi-fi after restart

    Hi all,
I just set up my E1200 router to my PC running Windows 7 and it works perfectly in my house, except that after I restart or power off my computer, I have to manually reconnect to my wi-fi network everytime and re-enter my password. The check box next to "Connect automatically when this network is in range" is definitely selected. Is there a setting in the advanced settings of Cisco Connect that could be causing this?
The PC in question is the computer which has Cisco Connect installed in it. I've been connecting to my wi-fi network without interruption with my iPhone, FWIW.
    Thank you!

  • Wireless connection not restored immediately after sleep

    Hi,
Since I have updated to Mavericks (OS X 10.9.1), my wireless connection doesn't restore automatically anymore after sleep.
This recently also started to happen when I boot my computer. I always have to click the wifi icon, select my network and then it still says "can't connect to network".
When I click the wifi icon and select my network a second time, it works.
I have tried setting the order of network services (WiFi first, then Bluetooth and finally Thunderbolt bridge), deleting my saved home network and adding it again, deleting all other saved wireless networks.
What can I do to fix this?
    Thank you.

Test after taking each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Back up all data before making any changes.
    1. Make sure the network is on the preferred list by following these instructions. It's important to read the article carefully, as it's the starting point for any further efforts to solve the problem. If you skip any of the steps, the problem may not be solved. Make sure the box marked
Remember networks this computer has joined
    is checked.
    2. Follow the instructions in this support article under the heading "Symptom: The network connection drops unexpectedly."
    3. Make a note of all your settings for Wi-Fi in the Network preference pane, then delete the connection from the connection list and recreate it with the same settings. You do this by clicking the plus-sign icon below the connection list, and selecting Wi-Fi as the interface in the sheet that opens. Select Join other network from the Network Name menu, then select your network. Enter the password when prompted and save it in the keychain.
    4. From the Location menu at the top of the Network preference pane, select Edit Locations. A sheet will drop down. Click the plus-sign button to create a new location. Give it any name you want. In the new location, set up the Wi-Fi service with the same settings you used before. Click Apply and test.
    5. Launch the Keychain Access application. Search for and delete all AirPort network password items that refer to the network. Make a note of the password first.
    6. Repair permissions on the startup volume.
    7. Turn off Bluetooth and test.
    8. Reset the System Management Controller.
    9. Reset the PRAM.
    10. Reinstall OS X.

  • G580(2189) Wi-Fi doesn't want to connect to a network after sleep.

    Hi.
My G580(2189) don't want to connect to a Wi-Fi network after sleep. It's not just my network at home, but at work and other points of interest as well. It usually after a reboot it works again. And sometimes, al tho rarely after just going back to sleep and waking it up again.
I've tried updating drivers, but always been confused to what hardware is being used in this laptop since it just says "broadcom" or something.
I did update my device to Win 8.1. But I'm pretty sure I had this problem before that tho.
And I tried to contact Lenovo support, since I'm not really a forum-kind-of-guy. But their support site it so confusing for simple person to person contact.
Tanks in advance for any advice.

  • HT1750 network connection is randomly disconnected after sleep.

I have a iMac OS X (10.5.8) I purchased in 2009 brand new.  For the last 6 months, I have to go thru network diagnostics to verify my network name and re-enter my password for the network.  I have an Ipad, Ipod, and laptop PC that have no issues connecting to the network after I have contacted my network to troubleshoot problem, it is not the network.  My system software is currently up to date, I did notice that 10.7 Lion had a software update for this problem that I am experiencing.  Can anyone give me a solution to troubleshoot this problem?

    Possible fixes...
Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712
The Interface that connects to the Internet, needs to be drug to the top of System Preferences>Network>Show:>Network Port Configurations and checked ON.
    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.

Solved! I trashed the internet connect preference in the library, and it worked!

  • Messages won't connect to AIM network after sleep.  What's up with this?

I am having some problems with Messages.  I just upgraded to Mountain Lion yesterday and I have found out that after my Mac Mini (Mid 2011 model) goes to sleep, Messages refuses to connect to the AIM network.  I used to have a similar problem with iChat, but I was usually able to get it to connect again by turning the WiFi on on my Mac.  (I use and Ethernet cable to connect to the wireless router.)  However, that does not work with Messages.  The only way I have found to be able to connect is to restart the computer.  Any ideas?

    Hi Malik666,
Actually I am set to Threaded view.
However a thread that gets a bit longer than this one will stop showing the individual posts in this staggered manner.
At the top of an Apple Support Communities page use the "Your Stuff" items > Then Preferences in it's menu.
This takes you to a two tabbed page.
    You need General Preferences.
It may pay to start another thread about the computer losing it's Communities Login.
I spend about 3 hours each evening here and only have to login once.

  • Cannot re-connect to SL Server after upgrade to Lion

    Hi all,
I faced a problem yesterday and I'm not sure what the reason could be.
    First:
I have a Mini running SL Server for some time, all Open Directory users have mobile profiles.
For testing purposes I disconnected my MBA from the OD on the server, removed all mobile users except the local admin, and started the Lion upgrade.
After the successful (seemless!) upgrade I wanted to re-connect to the SL Server's OD.
That's were I'm stuck: I always get something like "Cannot connect to xxxxx. Error: -2100" (free translation from the german message)
Any idea what I was doing wrong?
    Thanks in advance

After doing a lion server upgrade, i cannot logon to the server.app. asking me for administrator password but everything i type will not let me in.
Has the upgrade messed with security settings ?
Note: I can logon to the server direct ok, but i see this problem when clicking on the server app under applications

  • IPad (especially iPad 2) issue with WiFi connection 1-minute delay after sleep or new connection

This is a tip and not a question.
I had a customer who was complaining that their iPad 2 would take about 1 minute before WiFi would work after coming out of sleep. They are on 5580 controller with 802.11n APs. If they took it home, it didn't have this issue. They also tried with iPad 1 and it didn't seem to have this problem. It was happening every time on iPad 2, wait until it goes to seep, then wait about a minute, then press home button, unlock and try to launch safari, it won't connect and wifi icon in the top bar is missing, 1 minute later wifi icon reappears and safari works. I was also able to reproduce it on iPad 1 and iPad 2 when creating new wifi connection in the settings, wifi icon wouldn't appear for about a minute.
After some 5580 controller upgrades, trying different wireless settings, researching on google, and capturing with AirPcap, I finally figure it out.
Once it comes back out of sleep or once the connection is created, iPad actually associates to the APs just fine and gets an IP address. You are able to ping it during that first minute of "outage" (when wifi icon is missing), but you can't use any network apps like Safari from the iPad during that minute. It turns out that right after getting IP address, iPad sends out DNS query for www.apple.com and then tries some HTTP query on  184.24.93.15 (www.apple.com). I didn't bother investigating what it's trying to do with that HTTP query, but it looks like if that TCP session is not established, you can't use wireless for about a minute. And indeed, my customer's firewall blocks HTTP traffic that's not coming from proxies. Once they opened HTTP traffic to 184.24.93.15 on the firewall, it fixed the issue, the wifi icon now appears as soon as iPad 2 comes out of sleep and Safari works. (They use it for intranet only in case you are wondering)
    Hope this helps.

I saw on another discussion thread to shut down the hot spot (in my case my HTC Thunderbolt) for 10 seconds and then restart it.  It worked and my WiFi downloads seem to be as fast as before.  Thanks Philly_Phan.

  • Powerbook g3 will  not auto reconnect to iMac airport after sleep

iMac is a late-2006 intel, airport extreme. I'm internet sharing. If the powerbook sleeps, it will not auto-reconnect after waking. I can't even enter the password to reconnect; it displays an error message. I have to turn off-and-on the iMac's airport, and then the powerbook auto-reconnects.

    Welcome to the discussions, Dan!
If the powerbook sleeps, it will not auto-reconnect after waking.
The AirPort Extreme is "always on", there are no "sleep" related adjustments on this device. The "sleep" issue is with your powerbook or the operating system that the powerbook is using.
Suggest that you post in the PowerBook Forum for your specific question.
