Cannot backup after migration

Hello,
I changed computer (from MBP 2007 to MB 2009) and transfered all data with migration assistant. Everything works just fine, except backup. Time machine gives me this error: +"The backup disk image could not be created.".+
In backup messages (widget) I get this:
+Starting standard backup+
+Mounted network destination using URL: afp://[email protected]/M%20Time%20Capsule+
+Backup destination mounted at path: /Volumes/M Time Capsule+
+Creating disk image /Volumes/M Time Capsule+
+Error moving disk image from /Volumes/M Time Capsule.tmp. to /Volumes/M Time Capsule - Error Domain=NSCocoaErrorDomain Code=512 UserInfo=0x522fb0 "“M Time Capsule.tmp..sparsebundle” could not be moved to “Volumes”."+
+Failed to create disk image+
+Backup failed with error: 20+
+Ejected Time Machine network volume.+
Since we use this Time Capsule in the office I did not restore it or make any other modifications. Time Capsule is up-to-date to v.7.4.2
I tried with another Time Capsule, and the error is the same - so I guess the problem is in the computer.
Can you please help me with suggestions what to do?
Thank you.
Best regards,
M.

  • How to continue use Time Machine backup after migration?

    Hi,
I just purchased a new mac and migrated using my Time Machine backup from my NAS.
This went smooth but now I would like to keep this backup as base for my new mac.  Unfortunately, this does not seem to work as my mac tries now to create a new image.
As I have pretty important documents on my previous backup, it would be nice if there would still be a way to continue using this one.  I saw somewhere that the migration assistant should ask if we want to continue based on this backup after migration but I did not receive this question.
Is there still a way to solve this?
Thanks in advance for your input!
    Kind regards,
    Fred

    Hi Leonie,
Thanks for your link!  I am migrating from Leopard to Mavericks.  If I understand correctly, this is the reason why I cannot inherit from previous backup.
The procudure to tweak seems pretty complicated though... not sure I will risk it.
    Thanks anyway!
    KR,
    Fred

  • Time machine dropping old backups after migrating

I recently changed from an iMac to a retina Macbook Pro. I read that I could continue my time machine after migrating my mac. My new macbook keeps trying to create a brand new backup. I enter time machine and go back to find all my old dates but it drops after a minute or so. Is my mac trying to create new backups instead of continuing? I have a second backup portable hard drive with thunderbolt. It only took an hour to do what my network storge was taking 22 hours! how can I keep my old backups without my mac trying to restart again?

  • Time Machine: Cannot access old backups after migrating to a new mac

    Hello,
I have bought a new Mac (With Snow Leopard installed on it). I have used it for about half an hour to have fun with it.
Then, I have decided to use Time Machine & Migration Assistant to restore all my files from my old Mac (Leopard). The restoration was successful and I was very happy to see that all my files and settings were there.
However, when I try to access my old backups (the ones I have done prior to buying the new Mac), Time Machine says I do not have the permissions to access it.
Is there an way to fix this? I would like to be able to access these old files.

I am having a similar problem and do not understand the solution. I have a new Macbook and transferred my data from my Powerbook G4. However, I cannot access anything! There is a no entry sign on the folders and if I click them I get this message: 'The folder “Pictures” can’t be opened because you don’t have permission to see its contents.'
Help - but please, in simple language
    Thanks

  • TM doesn't see its backup after migrating to new iMac and restoring system.

TM doesn't see its backup even though it still exists on the HD. I just migrated to a new iMac. After using OS X disc to 'Restore System From Backup' with TM backup it was showing the latest backup attempt had failed. The same disk was highlighted under TM Preferences too. But once I reset it TM began to make a new backup under a new folder/computer name (adding a number to the end). Is there a way to make TM see the existing BU and continue on?

I'll try to recall to the best of my memory what I did... It's been stressful, frustrating, trying to deal with it.
    Computers:
    1) iMac6,1 (Late 2006) Intel 2.16 GHz Nvidia OS X 10.5.6
    2) iMac8,1 (Early 2008) Intel 2.8 GHz ATI OS X 10.5.4
Perform final backup of iMac #1 with TM and SuperDuper!
    Shut down and disconnect.
Hook up iMac #2 and power up.
After OS X intro select 'Transfer from another Mac' with Set Up Assistant (note: this was from the SD! backup).
Everything was selected for transfer; Users, Apps, Network,..etc. (I assumed it would update OS X too).
    Transfer complete.
    Restart.
    * I have both Admin and User account. I noticed things weren't performance was off; log in was slow (Menu Bar items took longer to display, clock too), and generally overall apps,..etc seemed slow. Apps were asking for license and reg info too.
Second attempt (restore system from TM backup):
Startup from OS X 10.5.6 disc.
    Erase HD with DU.
    Select 'Restore System from Backup'.
    Select TM backup.
    After that completed, restart computer.
And that brings us to now. Well, sort of.
So what is the proper way to migrate as it were from between two different Intel iMac's? I have to assume I transfered over system files that caused a conflict with the new iMac's HW, correct? What can I do now? I've already performed new backups of both SD! and TM. I didn't think it mattered since either way the backups come from my old system. I'm guessing I should have updated OS X first on the new iMac and only selected User files, Apps, Network settings,.. etc., for transfer, or maybe installed apps fresh. I thought I was doing it correctly.
    The new iMac still seems off with performance to me. I've tried performing multiple 'Repair Disk Permissions' too. There are about 32 differing permissions but DU doesn't seem able to repair them as they come up again and again. Here are some examples;
    2009-05-15 09:23:47 -0700: Permissions differ on "System/Library/CoreServices/Front Row.app/Contents/CodeResources", should be -rw-r--r-- , they are lrw-r--r-- .

My final attempt to straighten this out is to install from OS X disc fresh (erase/install). Transfer only User files, Network settings, anything pertinent to my Users (email, browser, keychain,..),... and nothing else. Reinstall 3rd-Party Apps. I had to do this before after updating from Tiger to Leopard because it didn't take well.
    Any help/insight appreciated.

  • Time capsule backup after migration

My son dropped my macbook pro and the casualty was my hard drive. It was damaged; however I have a time capsule which backed up all my data. (except for the last month)
I used system migration to get the data from my time capsule. My problem now is that it is trying to back-up as a separate computer! And is not using the old back-up which I had migrated. Consequently, now I can't back-up since I do not have enough hard drive space.
Help!! How do I resolve this.
    Thanks:D

Once you do a full restore, Time Machine will conduct a full backup.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1338
The problem with this is, like in your case, most don't have enough disk space to have these separate backups. So you can delete some older backups or others you don't want to keep, to try and make the backup (sparsebundle) smaller, or erase the Time Capsule disk and restart new backups. If you need help in doing either just ask.

  • Cannot backup after itunes update to 10.5.0.142

After updating itunes on win7 32bit, backup operation won't complete.
After several tries, the error message could not be saved on your computer appeared.
I deleted all backups as this article suggests http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2529 and now I connect iphone, try to backup and nothing happens. It stays there forever. In the meanwhile, the backup folder remains in a size of 5,1mb when the progress bar is diplayed (a little progress only, usually does not show the progress bar at all. I've tried to delete the folder a lot of times, nothing happens.
Ive restarted iphone, the pc, nothing changes. BTW this article is stupid http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2529 it does not answer if another user account doesnt backup either !
    Any help? any ideas?

I'm pasting what worked for me after going through a lot of forums etc. Don't even remember where i found it, give it a try though. it worked for me. I wonder why it was so hard to find... Cheers mates:
This solution has been documented on this forum by several people, but the solution is usually deep in multiple threads.  I really don't know who came up with it first, but it does indeed work.
I had an issue with iTunes.exe, APSDaemon, and AppleMobileDeviceHelper.exe using 100% CPU per core.  (Showed as 25% in Task Manager.)
I could not backup my iPhone and the CPU spike happened as soon as iTunes
10.5 was started on Windows 7 Home Premium x64.
    This solved it.
    Sounds stupid but works:
    1. Quit iTunes.
    2. Start an elevated command prompt (Start Menu -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Right Click "Command Prompt" -> "Run as Administrator")
    3. Once in the command prompt, type "netsh winsock reset" and hit ENTER.
    4. Reboot your machine.
    5. Restart iTunes.
    6. ???
    7. Profit!

  • Office v.X Applications - Cannot open after migration to new MBP

Used target disk mode to move all files from G4 Titanium PowerBook running OS 10.4.7 and cannot open any Office v.X applications.
    MBP 15-inch   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   2 GB RAM

Well, I had no choice. I lost the video on the Ti G4 and bought the MBP. I could only operate the Ti G4 in the target disk mode to get the files from itt. I was concerned that I had lost everything to the old laptop. I did not knowingly use Migration Assistant. When I first booted up the MBP, it asked if I wanted to move the files from the old laptop, and I said "yes". I guess that was a form of Migration Assistand, but the MBP was new to me and it sounded OK to do.
Also, I have a separate copy of MS Entourage that is not part of Office. It works fine with the MBP.
I thought Office v.x or 2004 would run on Intel-based Macs, but not as fast.

  • Time machine backup after HD crashed

Hi, my HD on my MacBook crashed and i had it replaced which is fine, the OS (10.5) was reloaded as well. My question is what is the best way to restore from Time Machine to my previous system.
Before the HD crashed certain programs (word, safari and handbrake mainly) were causing major spikes in Processes and causing the fans to spin at over 6000rpm. I was concerened that this may be caused by corrupt system files, preference files or caches. I ask because if corrupt files were the problem, will restoring from Time Machine re install these corrupt files and again cause problems?
What would be the best way to restore from Time Machine in this case?
    Any help would be great!

Ok, however i cant access the thread link that you posted? it says i dont have rights to access the thread? no idea why. Is there another link to the page at all?
Sorry, I forgot you might not be able to access it.
Just to clarify do you mean to archive and install from the Time Machine drive? That is where i am confused because the OS was erased an installed the apple store so its all new now?
Ahhh, you never explained that clearly earlier. All this time I thought you hadn't done anything yet to the system. So you already have the Mac OS re-installed, you just don't have your user data yet?
Then in that case forget the Archive & Install. You need to now use Migration Assistant to move your User data over form the Time Machine backup. Have you already launch the Mac OS and created an new account, or have you NOT started the Mac yet? It makes a difference what you do below.
*Using Time Machine Before Initial Launch of New Mac*
Before starting the new Mac for the first time, attach the hard disk that contains the Time Machine backups from the old Mac. (For Time Capsule/AirDisk users: If you will be attempting this wirelessly, ensure that you are in range of your Airport wireless device. Alternatively, for faster migration of large quantities of data, connect your Mac via ethernet to your wireless device.)
    Procedure:
Startup the new Mac and begin the setup process. You will initially see the video introduction.
At “Welcome” select your country and then preferred keyboard.
At “Do You Already Own a Mac?” you are asked “Would you like to transfer your information?”
    +from another Mac+
+from another volume on this Mac+
    +from a Time Machine backup+
+Do not transfer my information now+
Select “from a Time Machine backup” and click “Continue”.
At “Select a Backup Volume” choose your Time Machine backup disk and click “Continue”. (If you are attempting the migration wirelessly, then click “Join...” and select your network first.)
At “Transfer Your Information” check all the categories you wish to migrate over. If you wish your Mac to be in the same state as your last backup, then check everything. If, however, you are only interested in transferring one user account, then click the little disclosure triangle next to "Users". A list of all the previous users will appear. Just uncheck the user accounts you do NOT wish to migrate over. In other words, have only the desired account checked.
Give the installer time to calculate sizes.
Once that is complete, the “Transfer” button will become active and you can click it.
After the migration, verify the registration information, click “Connect” and you are done.
Once the migration is complete use Disk Utility to repair any permissions issues.
*Using Time Machine After Initial Launch of New Mac*
If you happened to initially set up the new Mac using a different username than the username on the account you wish to migrate, then skip to “Attach the hard disk containing...”.
If, on the other hand, it is the same username as the account you wish to migrate over, then do the following:
Go to System Preferences --> Accounts.
You may need to unlock the lock in the lower left to make changes.
Below the pane on the left click "+" and create a brand new Administrator User account on the Mac with a completely unique name - not the name of your own User account.
Now logout of the account you are currently in and log back in using the new Admin account you just created.
Attach the hard disk containing the previous Macs' Time Machine backups to the new computer. (For Time Capsule/AirDisk users migration will be much faster if you connect your Mac directly to the router via ethernet. [See “Wirelessly or Directly Connected” above])
Now go to Applications --> Utilities --> and launch Migration Assistant.
At the welcome dialogue click "Continue." You may be required to enter your Admin password.
For Migration Method chose "From a Time Machine backup or other disk". (Do not choose…
"Full System Restore" unless it is exactly the same Mac you are restoring to.)
At “Select the System to Transfer” choose the hard disk containing the previous Time Machine backups and click “Continue”. Give Migration Assistant some time as it connects to the drive and scans the disk for eligible data to migrate.
At “Select User Accounts to Transfer” put a check beside each account you would like migrate over to the new Mac.
At “Select the Items to Transfer” you can choose to migrate “Applications” over. If an application already resides on your new Mac, only the newest version will be transferred. Additionally, other “Files and Folders” that resided at the top level of your old Mac can be transferred at this point as well. Files from the “Library” folder of your old Mac will always be transferred over unless you uncheck the other two options.
    Click “Continue”.
At “Select Computer Settings to Transfer” choose which settings you would prefer transferring to the new Mac. If you want a completely fresh system to start with, then do not check any of these options. This can be helpful if your previous system was experiencing issues.
    Click “Transfer”.
If you have already created a User Account on the new Mac and it happens to be named the same as the User Account that is being migrated then Migration Assistant will report,
+"There is an existing user account with the same name as an account you are transferring."+
At that point, you will be able to choose one of the following:
+• Rename the user account you are transferring+
+• Replace the existing user account with the one you're transferring+
+• Do not transfer this user account+
If you wish the new Mac environment to be exactly the same as your old Mac, then avoid selecting “Rename the user account...”. Rather, select “Replace the existing user account...”. It will not be deleted but saved in a new folder labeled “Deleted Users” found in the main Users folder. Click “Next”.
At this point the transfer will begin with a bar displaying the progress. Once completed click “Quit”.
*Full Backup After Migration to New Mac*
Bear in mind that in all cases Time Machine will not continue to backup the previous Macs’ backup sets but will perform a new full backup. This is normal. Time Machine will resume incremental backups after the full backup has completed. To view previous backups, Control-click or right-click the Time Machine icon in your Dock or Option-click the Time Machine menu extra and Choose "Browse Other Time Machine Disks," then select the previous Mac’s backup set. You will enter Time Machine and be able to browse your previous back ups and restore files. (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1338)
Let us know if this was helpful.
    Cheers!

    Hi All,
After migrating from SP 2010 to SP2013 i found list View filter option is changed and filter is not working Pls help its really urgent.... you can check field 1 and field 2 in following screen shot.

    Hi  ,
According to your description, my understanding is that your list filter cannot work after Migrating from SharePoint 2010 to SharePoint 2013.
For your issue, please check your log files for any issues. Also you can refer to the blogs for troubleshooting SharePoint 2013 migration:
Firstly try running Test-SPContentDatabase on your source database for any issues -
    Test-SPContentDatabase - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff607941.aspx
Troubleshoot site collection upgrade issues in SharePoint 2013 http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj219648.aspx
Verify database upgrades in SharePoint 2013 -http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc424972.aspx
And please have a look at your custom solution on your site.

  • Using Time Machine AFTER Migrating

I used Migration assistant to switch from a macbook to a macbook pro (successfully). However, now Time Machine failed to find the old Time Machine backup drive. I had hoped that I would be able to retain my backups after migrating. Is this not possible?

Actually, Time Machine does not use an IP address in the name of the backupdb, but rather the MAC address, the hardware address hard-coded into each individual Mac.
I just upgraded to a newer Mac last week, so looked into this. I thought it would be nice to keep all my backups back to my Leopard installation.
While it is possible to "merge" the backups from the older Mac to the newer one, on reflection it seemed to me to be more hassle (and potential danger, if you inadvertently restore an older system-type file) than it's worth.
Instead, I decided to keep the old backupdb around for a few weeks, just in case I remember that I've lost something; its files can still be accessed. If I don't realize I'm missing something within that time, I probably never will. So I will eventually just delete the old backupdb to free up space.
It's important to remember that the primary purpose of Time Machine is to enable restoration of a failed hard drive or inadvertently deleted file. TM is not intended to be a permanent archive of everything on the drive; none of us has enough spare hard drive space for that. For those files I want to archive in virtual perpetuity, I archive them separately to a safe location or DVD/CD.
Another option, if you want to retain that older backupdb, is to use SuperDuper! to create a disk image of it which you can store and access at will.
    Hope this helps.

  • Files From Old Computer Cannot Be Opened On New Computer After Migration

After migrating User Data (i.e.: documents, downloads, music, movies, etc.) from my old iMac to my new MacBook Pro, the data cannot be opened because on my new MacBook Pro I "do not have permission to view the contents." Is there a way I can be authorized to view my data on my MacBook Pro? Should I give up on Migration Assistant and simply transfer my information using a USB drive or other device?

Hi, and welcome to the forums.
Your best bet may be to start over: erase your internal HD, reinstall OSX from the disc that came with your new Mac, and use +Setup Assistant+ when it restarts, to transfer your stuff.
See [Setting up a new Mac from an old one or its backups|http://web.me.com/pondini/AppleTips/Setup.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of the +Snow Leopard > Installation and Setup+ forum) for detailed instructions.

You cannot run Photoshop CS on a new Intel-based Mac running OS X Mavericks. CS is far too old.
You'll have to buy Photoshop CS6 or Photoshop Elements 12. Or subscribe to CC.

  • Cannot backup and sync after updated iTunes

Cannot backup and sync after updated iTunes. Have tried to hard reset iPhone (all data lost- sad) and reinstalled iTunes. Still cannot work.

It sounds like you bough the song only, not the song and the ringtone.
Ringtones via itunes are available in the U.S. only.
In the U.S. to make a ringtone you:
Buy the song with a bell - 99 cents
Find the song in your library and click the bell
    This bring up the editor.
You edit the song to the portion you want.
Then click buy to purchase the ringtone - another 99 cents.
Then it shows up in ringtones and you can sync.
As I said, this method of creating ringtones is available in the U.S. only.
There are, however, many ways to make ringtones:
