Cannot backup therefore cannot update ipad

Ok im having issues and im extreamly frustrated and over it.
My ipad 2 currently on 5.1.1 wont backup onto my computer and therefore wont update to current 6.1.3 It attempts to back up but then cannot backup to this computer, last time i was able to back it up was nearly 12 months ago, it had been backing up to icloud but apparently that isnt sufficient to be able to do a software update.

It is if you update over WiFi. You are already running iOS 5.1.1 which is all that you need in order to update that way. I updated over WiFi when iOS 6 came out and have done every updat over WiFi since iOS 5 was released. Settings>General>Software Update.
Is your computer's hard drive almost full? That will prevent a backup in iTunes from taking place.
You may have a corrupt backup as well. Launch iTunes and go to Edit>Preferences>Devices. See if you have multiple backups. If you do delete all but one backup. Quit iTunes, restart your PC, restart the iPad and try again.

  • HT4623 Cannot update iPad?

Cannot update iPad tells me it up to date offers no new upgrades

The original iPad is now 4 years old.
Apple is already on their 5th or 6th generations of the iPad if you include the IPad Mini.
The next generation is coming ssometime this year, again.
This is the plight of the early adopter.
I got over two years out of my iPad 1, I bought an iPad 3 and my wife got the use out of my iPad 1 for over a year before I got her an older, but great shape 64 GB storage iPad 2.

  • Ios7 cannot update ipad apps

Ever since the update, I cannot update my iPad apps. The message says that all the update notices are from the US store and I must go to the Canadian store to update. I have signed out and signed back in, checked my account, and nothing has changed. Very frustrating.

    Hi,
I had the same issue. All you need to do is to re-verify your credit card details on the your phone once again and that should do it.
    Change App Store
    1. Tap "Settings"
    2. Tap "iTunes & App Stores"
    3. Tap on your Apple ID
    4.Tap "View Apple ID"
    5. Enter your user name and password.
    6. Tap "Payment information."
    7. Re-confirm you credit card information
    8. Tap "Done".

  • Cannot update iPad with iTunes 11

Cannot update iTunes 11 giving me message on my computer that I need to upgrade with 10.6.3
    Help!!!!

Ckuan's advice is good, here's a small supplement beacuse you said "10.6.3".
I think what's happening is you really meant "10.6.8", which is the minimum version of Apple's Mac OS X operating system that you need to run iTunes 11.  So I suspect you're really behind in lots of software.  (The current version of OS X is 10.8.2.)
Anyway, presumably you have a Mac and need to get it up to at least OS X 10.6.8 to run iTunes 11.
    Good luck.

  • I cannot update iPad to newer s/w iOS 8.0.2

I am trying to help my parents with an iPad that is probably a couple of years old.  I was trying to update to a newer s/w push to 8.0.2 and it says it needs 1.8 GB to upload.  I tried to update an app that needed 915 MB and both of them would not upload.  They both said I needed more storage space.  I deleted all apps that I could and the device says I have 1.9 GB available and 11.4 GB used.
My parents received this iPad after purchasing a cadillac vehicle but it does not seem they can do a lot with currently.  Do I need to reset this iPad?  I attempted to back up stuff to the iCloud but I cannot seem to check to make sure the back up worked.  I pushed the Back up now tab and it says it took but I thought I could sign into the cloud to actually check but I cannot find the actual sign in screen to check.
    Thanks for the help.

    FORCE IPAD INTO RECOVERY MODE
    1. Turn off iPad
    2. Turn on computer and launch iTunes (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)
    3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port
    4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port.
DO NOT RELEASE BUTTON until you see picture of iTunes and plug
    5. Release Home button.
    ON COMPUTER
    6. iTunes has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes.
    7. Select "Restore iPad"...
    Note:
    1. Data will be lost if you do not have backup
    2. You must follow step 1 to step 4 VERY CLOSELY.
    3. Repeat the process if necessary.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).
Tip 2 - If you are updating using wifi, locate your iPad close to your router so you don't get a wifi dropout (can cause update corruption).

  • Cannot update iPad or iPod to ios 6

I have an iPad 2 and two 4th generation iPod touches that I cannot get to update to ios 6.  When I try to update within the various devices the download appears to happen, but then I get a message that the there was an error downloading the file.  When I connect the devices to iTunes and try to update from there, the download appears to complete, but during the "unpacking" phase I get a message that the download was corrupted.
I have been trying daily to update since iOS 6 came out, but I'm getting the same error every time.
I have no other problems with my Internet connection, and all other firmware upgrades have gone perfectly.  I have updated iTunes to the latest version.
Any suggestions (other than not to upgrade)?
    Thanks!

    You are welcome.

So why did that setting fix the problem?  What would a DNS server have to do with not being able to download an update file?
    Thanks again!
There are many things involved during a DNS lookup.
I think it has to do with your Internet provider DNS. Too many sharing a connection? DNS Spoofing? Cache corruptions? There are too many to mention.

  • Cannot update iPad 2 to iOS 5.1?

Hi everyone! I recently got an iPad from my cousin for my birthday. She registered it under her Apple ID at first, but when I got it I re-registered it as mine. She had previously marked it as "Manually manage music and videos". So...when I tried to update the software, I got a message saying that if I updated it, all of the music and videos (that my cousin added) would be erased. What could be the problem? I really want to get it updated, but at the same time I want to keep all the songs she added. Help!!! Thanks so much.
    ~CrazyKitty4

There is no problem. That is how this process works. You should backup the iPad, and transfer purchases before you update the iOS.
Read this before updating your iPad.
How to update your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch
And - If she bought the music with her Apple ID - the music does not belong to you. She may have bought the songs for you, but that is not how iTunes "sees" it. The purchases are tied to her ID - not to yours.

  • Cannot Update iPad 2 to iOS 5.0.1

Im getting a constant error message when I try to check for an update over wi-fi, I had an issue with my iPhone 4 initially also but was resolved after I found a thread that suggested I change my DNS settings, no such luck with the iPad though I don't have access to a computer right now so hooking it up is not an option.

You may not be connected to the internet.
Look at iOS Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections  http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398
    Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.

  • TS4062 unable to update iTunes becuse of elderly computer so cannot update iPad IOS

Have elderly Windows XP computer and my iPD2 is synched with it. The computer will not accept the last few iTunes uodates, so my iPad is languishing in the do,drums. Can I sych it with a different computer? Only trouble is the old computer has all my music on it, and it is a *** to load all the cds onto another cmputer. The old computer dvd drive no longer works.

These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
If you have an iOS device that syncs with contact & calendar data on your computer you should migrate this information too. If that isn't possible create a dummy entry of each type in your new profile and iTunes should offer to merge the existing data from the device into the computer, otherwise the danger is that it will wipe the information from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data. If you don't have any Apple devices then see HT2519 - Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store.

  • Cannot update IPAD on 3.2 to latest ipad software

I have an original Ipad on the software that came with the device (3.2) from Apple.  I have not gotten around to updating the ipad until now but when I accept the update to to latest ipad release software option I get a message stating the ipad is not entitled to the new ipad software.  So what are Apple charging now to update to a new IOS level to fix things like the Wifi issue on the ipad 1.  I still have full Applecare on the ipad and yet Apple will not allow me to update to the latest supported release of the iPad software.  Has anyone had a similar problem with the original ipad?  Perhaps I have to purchase a new ipad 2 or the latest IOS is not compatible with the iPad 1?

I have the same by updating from 4.2.1. to the new 4.3.3. iOS.
I am receiving each time the same error code (1394) without proper description.
The help screen doesn't tell what the real fault is, the suggest to instal the latest version of iTunes, what I did.
    Even this won't help.
    Any suggestions ?

  • Cannot update iPad 3g error 1651

    Hello , i just bought an apple ipad 3g ( 32gb )
    Version : 4.2.1(8C148)
    I've also got a Macbook
But i am getting an error when i am trying to update via iTunes 10.1.2 (error 1651)
It's exactly the same problem with the one here http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3655 .
I've already asked the technical service here in Greece ( macsupport.gr) but they couldn't help me .
    Thank you in advance.

I also had come with this error 1651 when I first connected my new iPad to iTunes and it was there ever since.
Every solution found on Apple forum and tested on my system was useless. The AppleCare expert contacted, after a long trial and error phone session, believed it was a hardware problem. Even the proposed solution from Apple at discussions.apple.com—2762611 was useless to me because I already have the most recent version of iTunes.
    Oui mais voilà!
Today, I once again connected my iPad to iTunes and, surprise!, iTunes was asking to install a new version of iOS on my iPad instead of displaying the same error message. I authorized downloading and installing of update 4.3.4(8K2). The procedure went on perfectly well and the error message 1651 appeared again after the installation!
My conclusion is that this error message is, well..., an error, to be  ignored, since it does not prevent iTunes from searching and installing updates correctly.
Maybe the problem is different for some users but in my case, this is it.
Oh! by the way, the sim card has nothing to do with it. I don't have one either.

  • HT4972 cannot update ipad on windows 7 done everything it just will not connect to update server

the itunes update  server could not be contacted .Please check your internet connection or try again later . this is as far as i get and my pc is on internet

Might be a problem with firewall or antivirus.
A way out is to download the new iOS version manually. Then connect the iPad and hold Shift when you click Update. That opens a dialogue to allow you to navigate to the downloaded file
This page has links to Apple's download servers. Make sure you pick the right file for your device. This is how I do all my updates

I am trying to update my iPad 1 to the new iOS and when I look at the general tab it won't let me access the area to upgrade and it does not say software upgrade or anything. Please help.

If you are still on iOS 4 then you will need to do the update via your computer's iTunes, it is only when you've got iOS 5 installed that future updates can be downloaded directly on the iPad
