Cannot boot after installing airport extreme

I tried to install my new airport extreme card on my powerbook G4 (at the back, as described in the instructions). the software had been installed before. when i tried to boot my computer (re-start), it did not boot, but showed a funny message:
Apple Powerbook 6, 1 4.5.f4 Boot ROM built on 01/14/03
Welcome to Open FOrmware, the system time and date (...)
The battery capacity (...)
To continue booting, type "mac-boot" and press return
To shut down, type "shut-down"and press return.
please help, i don't know what to do next and am afraid of loosing all my data.

This document shows a card that looks different from my card. The antenna is in the center in the picture and my card has the antenna to the side. The card seem a little smaller than the slot but it does go in and seats ok.
Do I need an old style card? I can't find anything but the Airport Extreme card in the apple store.

After installing Airport Extreme my internet works well, however I can't recieve email on my comcast/outlook. Outgoing works I have rechecked my settings and they all seem to be ok. Help?

Trouble with Maya 8.5 after installing Airport Extreme

Installed Airport Extreme 802.11n a couple weeks ago - using OS 10.4 on an iMac and 10.3 on G4 Quicksilver.
Network is working fine.
Tried to use Maya 8.5 this week and program freezes on startup. Only change to Mac system is installing network.
Is Autodesk license manager unable to recognize computer with network setup?

Maya not being able to recognize the license dat file will not cause Maya to lock up or crash. Have you run a Maya crash log to confirm what is causing this? Since upgrading from Tiger to Leopard I also upgraded to Maya 2008 (don't know why Autodesk didn't call it 9.0..lol) from 8.5. I haven't experienced any system crashes on Leopard, even on the MacBook Pro (Core 2 Duo 2.33 GHz, 3 GB RAM, ATI X1600). Note: I'm also using the AEBS in the SOHO and no issues with the license server.

you have an ibook G3?? if so, then you need the old "Airport Card", which apple no longer makes and you'll have to get from macmall or macwireless.com

Problems after installing Airport Extreme Update 2008-001

ever since I installed the Airport Extreme update 2008-001 my internet connection has been dropping and it's so frustrating. I normally wait and don't install updates immediately after they are released. I installed this one and now my internet connection keeps dropping.

Same scenario here, though I'm running 10.4.9. on a Mac Pro. I've tried every known fix, but Safari still stalls every few minutes - taking upwards of a minute to continue loading whatever page I was browsing to.
Other apps, including Mail, Firefox, and Remote Desktop screen sharing aren't affected - I can ping away without issue while Safari is choking, and there is no unusual Safari CPU consumption in Activity Monitor

Cant restart MBP1.83 after installing AirPort Extreme Update 2007-001, Help

Today I have installed that update on my macbook pro 1.83 mghz as the only update available, accordingly to apple software update utility. After a succesfull download and preinstallation, when I have restarted a lot of unix command lines appeared on a black screen. Then restarted again and the same thing happened (command lines stopping at a empty line). After a hard restart, the system tries to start but it stays on fisrt screen (apple logo with round timer keeping rotating).
Help please!!! and be carefull anyone who tries to install this patch. Thanks!
PS: I have tried disk check and permissions test and everything is ok, the problem continues

You cant have a macbook pro 1.83 you must just have a normal macbook 1.83ghz processor. The lowest model of macbook pro has a 2.16ghz processor. I currently have a 2.0Ghz macbook core duo machine and after installing the airport update the machine restarted then came up with a dialog box instead of booting the os saying that i should do a hard restart in order for everything to work properly so once i did a hard restart by holding down the power button till the machine went off everything has worked fine so far.

PowerMac G4 (FW 800) Won't Start After Installing Airport Extreme Card!

After installing an Airport Extreme Card in my G4 FW 800, the computer will not Chime or Start Up; shortly thereafter, the Fan begins to Run erratically.
Without the Airport Card installed, the CPU runs normal, with the exception of the clock needing to be reset.

Hey Tom, thanks for the response. I have tried holding Command-Option-R-P down (resetting the PRAM) at startup with no avail. I have also pressed the PMU button with and without the Airport Card installed. Still no luck. I am pretty stumped. I ran a hardware check on the machine, and it has come back successful without the card.
The previous owner installed an extra internal HD and some memory. I have since installed a new PCI graphics card. Do you think these have anything to do with it?

IBook G4 won't start up after installing Airport Extreme card

Hi,
just installed an Airport Extreme Card into girlfriends iBook G4 (10.4.5), which now won't start up. After pressing the start button all I hear is the fan spin (pretty fast actually), but nothing else happens.
When I remove the card the iBook starts up normally.
Any thoughts what could be wrong? Bad card? Bad connection?

Are you certain that you have an AirPort Extreme card?
Are you certain that it is an iBook G4? The iBook G3s require the original AirPort card.
If both of those are OK, then one (or more) of these is true:
The card isn't installed correctly.
The AirPort Extreme card is defective.
The iBook's motherboard is defective.

Blank screen on my eMac after installing Airport Extreme Card

I just bought and installed (the right way, I checked) the Airport Extreme card on my eMac G4 desktop and at first the computer couldn't find it at all and after restarting several times, now the computer turns on but the screen is absolutely blank. I took the card out and restarted and it came on just fine. Can the card be affecting the screen? ANy help appreciated, I have no idea on this one.

This symptom is commonly seen when the Airport card is not FULLY seated into its socket. It can take a fair bit of force to do this.

Imac 24 won't sleep after installing Airport Extreme

This topic may have been covered already, but does anyone know why I can't seem to get either my Imac 24 display or the internal HD to automatically sleep after installing the Airport Extreme .11n?
Both the display and internal HD would sleep just fine when directly connected to modem, but now with Airport Extreme, only the screen saver appears and I can't get either the display or drive to sleep.

hi all - after reading around the forums - i bought this off ebay

but when i boot up i all i get is the screen of death - kernal panic - and need to reboot to another kernal panic
i have tried it in slots 2-5 and the result is the same - i have now taken it out and the machine boots fine.
I am keen to use it as a media streamer for appletv - have i bought the wrong card or is there something i can try/do?

Hi-
I would consider the problem to possibly be incompatibility with Leopard.
The seller states 10.2/10.3/10.4 "and above", but does this include 10.5x? Leopard is not specifically mentioned. "And above" could mean up to 10.4.11.......
If you have a drive with OS 10.4x on it, try booting to that volume with the card.
If it works, then it's an OS incompatibility.
If it doesn't, then the card is the problem.
Biggest problem, is it looks like some generic brand. Not knowing the maker really makes trouble shooting difficult.
Is is a Broadcom chipset?
While generic Broadcom chipset cards worked well up through 10.4.11, Leopard seems to have "broken" that generic support that was previously enjoyed, for at least some of those chips. Seems to be an "era" related thing......
If the chipset is Atheros, the previously successful Orangeware driver also doesn't work in Leopard.

System slows down after installing AirPort Extreme Update 2007-001

my macbook's internet related performance has been significantly slowed down recently. i have windows xp installed on my mac from where i can compare the performance of ie and safari or ie and firefox on mac. the result is ie on windows xp is much faster. the wireless connection is even more reliable and has more signal strenth under windows. these "slow" situations of mac only happens recently, and the only thing that i can think of to mark the change is the installation of AirPort Extreme Update 2007-001. please advise what i can do to bring back the good performance of mac. (i.e.:if i type in www.google.ca in the address bar of safari, the blue bar will just be stuck around "http://" for a long time before the simple page gets loaded while the status bar of safari is showing contacting google.ca)

Help after installing airport extreme on my ibook G4

Hi,
I installed an airport extreme card but then how do I know that my G4 recognizes it? Does it need any software or should it automatically pick it up? Help Im new to mac so Im still learning how to get around it. I have os 10.39 on it.

Choose About this Mac from the Apple menu and click on More Info, or open the Network pane of System Preferences.
