Cannot boot computer at all after partitioning in windows

i installed windows 7 no problems, but then i tried to partition the windows drive. all drives then were labelled 'Simple Volume' or something rather than 'Primary Partition'. unbenownst to me, this renders these hard drives unable to boot, so now i cannot boot my windows or mac partitions - they dont even appear on the screen when i hold option at startup. how can i fix this? or should i cut my losses and reformat everything (i was hoping i could avoid data loss)

FYI: be certain to clone both the Mac and the Windows partitions before attempting anything else when you are up and running again.

  • CANNOT USE COMPUTER AT ALL AFTER LOG IN. Only happening now.

Well, I turn on my computer tonight, and guess what? After I log in, it takes me to a set up assistant, as if I only installed Leopard now. I complete this set up assistant, and go back to the login screen. I log in, and get the same set up window again! It keeps repeating, no matter what account I am on. This is terrible because I have no access what so ever to my computer's files at all.

This is my history with the MAC this week.
    1st Login issues with 10.4.x
Could not find my 10.4 DVD, So I went to Best Buy and picked up a copy of 10.5.
Installed it changed my password no issues.
    WRONG.
Installed the new update now my keychains are broke, I've tried the fix all of them but cannot seem to get it back.
I was able to change my account login with out any issues but this keychain issue will not go away.
I've tried to modify it and change it was per the Support site under the KeyChain manager with the same result.
Does anyone really know how to fix this because it's starting to tick me off.
Someone better get a hold of Steve here before I go see Bill again.

  • I cannot connect to the Internet after installation of Windows Vista Ultimate edition.

I cannot connect to the Internet after installation of Windows Vista Ultimate edition. For some odd reason, it seems my ethernet has not yet been installed to my operating system and I do not know how to do that even with the internet, I have the LAN cable hooked up to my computer but I do not know exactly what to do about it. Is there some sort of driver I need to install, or what? How do I do that without the internet?
This operating system is on a separate partition to my other operating system that is connected to internet already (Windows Vista Premium) that I do not wish to use anymore because of it's corruption. I tell you this because you may know a way of finding the driver files on my previous operating system that I may be able to transfer to the other.

Cannot print a PDF file after upgrading to Windows 8.1
I can print anything else from either the Desktop or Start but not a PDF.  No error message but just does not print.
Update: down loaded Adobe Reader which runs on the desktop so when I read a PDF file it now runs on the desktop and I can print it.

  • Cannot boot computer out of safeboot after installing OS X Yosemite

    Hello,
I installed Yosemite on my macbook pro from early 2011 recently and I've had nothing but major problems. Right now, the major problem is that I cannot boot my computer out of safe mode. When I try to boot it outside of safe mode, it will either freeze on the sign in screen, or it will freeze after signing in. My computer is also paused in the middle of encrypting the hard drive for FileVault, saying to "connect to power to resume encryption." I know that it cannot finish this process unless the computer is not in safeboot mode. It's making my computer run much harder than usual and deplete the battery much quicker.
This is all very problematic for me. I'm a college student and my life pretty much relies on the usage of my computer.
Some other problems I've had since upgrading to Yosemite:
Speakers stopped working and didn't register (they work now)
Computer is extremely laggy in loading many things
I'm unable to search for any files through finder
There is nothing under "all my files" in finder.

    Update:
I was able to get into my computer out of safeboot mode and heres what happened
The encryption start and then paused permanently for several hours. I restart the computer, went into Terminal and typed in "sudo fd setup disable" as suggested by someone in a different thread. The encryption finished, I restarted my computer, and turned FileVault off. So far, things seem to be working much, much better. I guess time will tell if this is a permanent fix.

  • Cannot boot into Mac OS X after partitioning in Windows

My Mac is a Macbook Pro 17", I got it from my friend (no original disc).
So after upgrading it to Mavericks (I was unable to install Windows using Boot camp of 10.6.8), Boot Camp successfully let me install Windows 8.1 Pro (x64).
However, after installing, whenever I install the Software Support in Windows, Windows always show Blue screen after showing the logo. I was able to restore Windows back. Therefore, I am now using Windows with only basic components, no Boot Camp driver.
The problem is that, I shrink the Boot Camp partition, and create another NTFS partition. Now, I cannot boot into Mac OS anymore. Holding Command + Option + R does nothing, holding Option while startup shows a hard drive named Windows (instead of Mac HD).
Can I make the Mac bootable again? And if possible, is there any available driver for Windows 8.1?

    Hi iPragash,
At startup, hold down the Option Key (alt) to choose between Mac OS X and Windows.
To select what system you want to boot into by default:
    - when in Windows go to the Control Panel ->BootCamp ->Installed Startup Disks
    - when in Mac OS X go to System Preferences->Startup disk.

  • Mac Mini won't boot to Mac after partitioning for Windows 7

    system:
    Mac Mini, late 2009
    Intel
    4 gig ram
500 gig hard drive, brand new
    OSX
Mtn Lion with Mavericks just installed, runs ok
    problem:
Adding 90 gig partition for Windows 7, now won't boot to either Mac or Windows
After a little bit sticky install of Mavericks, I had the thing running fine. I downloaded support sw onto the USB drive as per Bootcamp instructions, and started going through the wizard to install Windows 7.
First try:  "error" while creating the partition. I ran the Disk Utitliy, Verify Disk, found an error, ran Repair, it fixed the error
Second try: it started making the partition again, and then apparently just zipped through the partition making real fast (it finished so fast I could hardly catch it), then shut down in an apparent restart (as it's supposed to?), and from then on it won't reboot all the way. I get about 15 seconds of gray screen, the Win 7 disk jerks a little, then screen goes blank and silence. No hd activity. Tried restarting with all the usual key combinations (Command-R, "X" key, Option key, etc, etc). Nothing will bring the Mac login screen up again.
What gives? It is such b.s. for this stuff to be so flaky. This is all totally current software on the Mac side, running fine for days, and an apparently ok partition created. Fix me, Apple.

Got it. Thanks for the help.  Isn't there any boot disk thing that I can just stick in there that will jerk the OS sideways and give me the Mac login screen, or did the Bootcamp/partition attack just wreck everything?  I don't see why I have to do an entire scrape of my totally updated and formerly working OSX just to retry a routine Bootcamp partition, which the girl at the Mac Store in Seattle here assured me has worked for them all the time.   It really is a crock. Maybe I shouldn't bother trying to put Windows 7 on there at all if all these latest versions are so flimsy. I wouldn't want to have to do it all again. But it looks like I'll have to at least once. And send Apple the bill for my wasted time. I ain't feelin' the glamour.

  • Cannot boot computer

tried to turn on my computer this morning, and suddenly it won't even turn on. I push the on button and it sits on the screen with the apple for a long time before replacing it with a circle with a line through it (kind of like a null set).
I try restarting holding down the option key, and it can't find either my mac hard drive or my partition for windows. The partition for windows has worked successfully for over a month, so I don't think that's the issue.
Any ideas what could be going on here? I really have no idea what to do, and I'm really worried I'm going to lose all my data.

Try booting from you DVD drive by holding down the C key with the install disk in. Then when you get to the window with a menu bar look there for Disk Utility and try repairing permissions. Sounds like your hard drive may be failing this could cause it not to see either partition on start up.

  • Cannot boot from ext drive after 10.5.2 update

I followed the procedure in tech article 306502 for creating and updating a bootable drive. I am in a PPC Mini environment. External drive is LaCie 160 GB rugged firewire portable with auxiliary power, I created the drive with 10.5.1 and it booted nicely to my two Minis (running 10.3.9 and 10.5.1). I then updated the external system with 10.5.2 from the Apple site and now it does not boot. Sits and spins with a white screen, grey apple, and whirligig. Whirled for 1/2 hour and tried deveral times.
I see this is not uncommon, but there have been no cures posted. One post suggested Disk Warrior. What would I do to with DW to move this problem forward. This is quite annoying, as I rely on being able to move around and boot from this drive when needed.
    Thanks for any help.
    Fred

after 10.5.2 two days ago, mine booted up regularly. however after the additional leopard graphics update last night, it no longer boots up at all. i have to usethis ****** vista to report the problem. my macbook is right beside me, with nothing but a plain blue screen. occasionaly the mouse cursor appears for about 30 seconds, then dissapears and the screen remains blue. what can i do? if i cant log in apple cant update my mac!!! help!!!

  • Cannot boot into mountain lion after I have set the start volume to CD drive

Previously I need to boot from CD so I have set the start volume to CD drive by pressing command+option+P+R at the same time and change the start up volume to CD drive.
But right now, it can just start from CD but cannot boot into Mac OS (Mountain Lion) which is installed in the hard disk.
I have tried to press command+option+P+R at teh same time during bootup but seems like right now it doesn't recognize this command.  I have tried pressing "X" or "option" or spacebar, etc during bootup but still it tries to boot from CD.
Anyway I can change the start volume back to my internal hard disk?
I have even disassembled my iMac and the CD drive to remove the previous CD as well.  Then it still tries to boot from CD drive but now saying the device is not bootable and ask me to insert a bootup disk.  I then tried to put the Mountain lion installation DVD (I previously created the installation DVD by following the DIY way from this link http://www.cultofmac.com/180925/how-to-make-a-bootable-disk-or-usb-drive-of-os-x -mountain-lion/) there in the drive but it still said the device is not bootable.
I have disassembled my iMac again to remove the mountain lion disk right now.  So the CD drive is now empty.  Anyway I can change the start volume back to my internal hard disk?
This is really frustrating .. Hope someone can help.
    thanks!

It is broken, take it to the Apple Store for repair.

  • After partitioning with Windows CD in drive, MBP restarts and doesn't go to the Windows Installer. Just restarts Lion again.

I've put the disk in yet the restart doesn't go to the Windows installer.

Try holding 'c' on startup or Option key - does the DVD show in EFI boot list?
It is a DVD, Windows 7 won't fit on CD.
And you aren't talking drivers, but the installer DVD, right?
You bought physical DVD, No? then you burned downloaded ISO but need to reburn at slowest possible speed.

  • Cannot boot computer past apple logo, text is displayed saying aDebugger called panic ?

    Hello
I have been having issues booting up an iMac computer, it doesn't get past the apple logo before prodcuing text and a greyed out screen that refers to 'Panics', 'double Panics', kernal traps, deBuggers?
Not sure where to even begin really.
It does the same when I try to boot in safe mode.
Any ideas, can some one show me where to begin?
    cheers

  • Cannot boot up, shut down after 5% progress bar

Newbie to Mac OS - recently ported over from Windows since July '12, when I gotten Mac Mini.
Shut down Mini as usual before I went to bed one fine night.
Strangely, I noticed the power light is still on the next morning.
Turn on monitor and saw a strange box with 4 options.
I click X to close it.
I could see the the title of this is Disc Utility.
It also presented me with 3 options now after clicking the X.
"Boot from Macintosh HD something..." or "cancel" or "Restart".
Being a newbie to Mac, I chose Restart, thinking it's a safe bet.
(Things I remember of this is vaguely now).
Now, the Mini refused to boot up.
It'll go to the initial screen with Apple logo.
    The spinning wheel is visible.
Also, there's a loading bar below it.
The bar will move like 5% only before it shuts down!
I've tried Safe Boot (holding down shift key), but nothing happen.
I may be doing it wrongly though.
Additional info, while performing shut down that night, keyboard is tuck away cramp in a bag. Could that changed something if some keys were pressed while shutting down?
Also wondering if wireless USB keyboard is working during boot up - in case that nothing happened when buttons are pressed.
Hope to continue my learning journey with Mac OS.
I guess best way of learning and trying things is when episodes like this happen and reading hours of info from the Internet.
    Thanks.

    Just gotten into Recovery now.
Verify Disk fail - Invalid key length.
    Prompted to run Repair Disk.
Repair Disk fail - Invalid key length. The volume Macintosh HD could not be verified completely.
"Error: Disk Utility can't repair this disk... disk, and restore your backed-up files."
    Quick question...
    1) does this confirm that hdd had failed?
    2) is there any way to retrieve data before any replacement?

  • Cannot boot up at all---t61 7664-17u

I was playing warcraft just now. Then the laptop suddenly stop and the screen has random blue line on the original picture. I shut it down and tried to reboot but cannot even see the first screen where LENOVO  logo was shown...The hard drive just stop at a blank screen...I was wondering whether it's the hard disk's problem. I have never seen this kinda situation before, usually we can at least see the first screen since it's store in the BIOS.

is this a T61 with nvidia gpu??? i think it maybe suffering the early instances of nvidia gpu failures.
But just to make sure, take out your battery, and press the power on button 10 times, with first 9 presses at 15 sec interval, and last one at 30 sec. Then plug back all your power and battery, and restart, if this doesn't work, you may probably need a new motherboard.
