Cannot boot if HP ENVY Bios Virtualization enabled for Win8 Pro Hyper-V

HP Envy H8-1414 desktop machine (just bought last week)
Upgraded from Win8 to Win8 Pro
Win8 Pro has Hyper-V just like a Server OS, so I
- enabled Virtualizaiton in the Bios
- in Win8 Pro, Control Panel, Programs and Features, Add/Remove Windows Software
- enabled Hyper-V
- reboot
- won't get past Window logo with rotating "busy" circle underneath
Power off, into BIOS, disable Virtualization
Machine now boots, but Hyper-V won't work.
So, looks like the BIOD supports virtualization, but not for Windows 8.

To add some more details....
The HP specs for this machine say Gigabyte motherboard, but you can't find the model on Gigabyte's web site, and Gigabyte won't support it (I tried, they said it is not theirs - great). Anyway, some Gigabyte boards show a similar problem and the workaround is to disable USB 3 host in the bios, but this machine's BIOS does not show this option.
When I spoke with HP, they very quickly told me that I needed to call Microsoft. They would not provide support for this BIOS issue. Microsoft seemed pretty surprised that they would pass the buck so quickly and I can at least say that they are being very attentive to the problem.
With Microsoft support, they had me recreate the problem and wanted me to let it hang on the Windows logo screen for one hour. Then, they had me run a tool which dumps a bunch of logs and diagnostics to some files which I have sent to them.  That's the most recent step so I'm waiting to hear back from them.
I've used Hyper-V on a buch of HP machines with no problems, but none of them with Windows 8. I'm tempted to put in another drive and install Windows 2008 R2 or 2012 and see if Hyper-V works.
I've typically purchased HP machines (for work, so more than an individual woudl buy) because they have been reliable but I've never attempted to use HP support. I was surprised how poor it was. I would think that this would be an issue they would want to resolve and I expect it may be possible with a BIOS update.

  • Cannot boot....BIOS Corrupted ?

I have a lenovo 3000 Q, machine type 10003 Model Number 57054161 S/N SSxxxxxxxx M701W07, previously I change the motherboard and when it boot up it has this message invalid cpu serial number and error 00 something, but pressing enter to continue boot seem ok. But now I cannot boot the pc and cannot enter BIOS setup.
After the message usually I just press enter to continue, and it will boot up. Now it seem to stuck forever. Even pressing F1 to go to the BIOS also stuck at entering setup forever. Is the BIOS corrupted? I try to clear the BIOS by jumper pin, did not solved the problem. Searching for BIOS update / firmware for this type of PC on all over the internet did not find any BIOS firmware. It quite difficult to get info for this PC type with all the jumble up info at IBM and lenovo site.
Is there anyway to get this PC alive again ?
Moderator Note; s/n edited for members own protection

Already done that , I take out the battery for more than 3 days, and jump the clear CMOS jumper, but still when pressing F1, it stuck at Entering setup.
More detail on the boot up.
It come up with the ThinkCenter logo, Intel and Phoneix logo, then
ERROR 00CE Machine Type and Serial Number are Invalid!
Update the BIOS to correct this problem
    System is starting
(To interrupt normal startup, press ENTER)
-- Usually this will boot up to the operating system, but not it stuck forever.
-- Pressing ESC will bring the boot up screen. It shows the :-

    Lenovo Copyright.....

There is no info regarding the hard disk or the cdrom drive although both of them are there and connected.
At the lower leff bottom stated Press F1 for Setup
Pressing F1 will change it to Entering Setup..... and stuck there forever.
Is there any way to fixed this ? Can I update the bios for this PC ? If can how, coz I cannot access the OS and where in the world that I can get the current BIOS for this PC, searching on the intenet did not found one. and to change the motherboard
is like buying a new computer.
Is there a reason that the boot up sequence did not detect the hard disk and the cdrom. the hard disk is sata 500GB and the cdrom is an ide cdrom that come with the PC.
Hopefully someone can shade a light on this problem.

  • 802.11n Enabler for MacBook Pro not included

Apple's page about the Airport Extreme Base Station says, "Most new Mac computers ship with built-in 802.11n wireless support that can be easily enabled with the installation of enabler software included with new AirPort Extreme wireless base station (see sidebar)."
Yesterday I purchased the Airport Extreme 802.11n WiFi Wireless Base Station (Model MB053ZA/A A1143). I have installed it OK and it is running fine. But I now want to "enable" 802.11n on my MacBook Pro but can not figure out how to do it.
I have searched everywhere through the box and looked everywhere on the one install disk (disk version 2.1 2Z681-6107-A) but I can not find anything that looks like enabler software for the WiFi network card in my MacBook Pro 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo. The en1 page in Network Utility shows Model: Wireless Network Adapter (802.11 a/b/g).
How is the enabler normally shipped in the AirPort Extreme wireless base station package? On a separate disk? On the install disk? As a free download?

    Peter

There were several MacBook Pro models with 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo processors. Your computer must be have a Core 2 Duo processor to qualify for the enabler.
How is the enabler normally shipped in the AirPort Extreme wireless base station package? On a separate disk? On the install disk? As a free download?
There is only a single installation disk that is provided with the base station. The enabler software is located within the AirPort.mpkg package. There is a download, but it is not free. (ref: AirPort Extreme 802.11n Enabler for Mac)

  • BIOS Update Utility for Win8 x64?

I need to install a BIOS update available for the H430, but Lenovo doesn't offer an update utility that runs under 64-bit Windows. The instructions in the BIOS download say to download an ISO image file and burn it to a CD. That's fine, but I can't find any such file on the Lenovo site.
How do I install a BIOS update on an H430 running Win8 x64?

Hi, when I try to update the BIOS from 1.4 to 1.6 I get the following error message "The image file c:\....\7185v16\AWFL859G.exe is valid, but is for a machine type other than the current machine" .  The reason I am doing an up date is because its detecting my CPU at 0 revs.  But when i use another scoket on the MB (system fan) it reads it ok.  And when I put the system fan into CPU, its ok as well  .  Hence the Update.  Plus I cant get "live update 3.75" to work as get the following error all the time "service has not started" (not to bothered about this error).  I am currently using XP Pro x64 Edition  .

ok, let me understand. you want to update because the CPU fan shows 0 rpms in BIOS. if you put the system fan on the CPU fan connector, then it shows a correct value for rpms? then the BIOS is not a problem, but the fan is. did you check if the fan was actually spinning or the connector was properly inserted? anyway, have you also checked if the BIOS version you want to flash to contains a fix for your problem? you can see that in the BIOS release notes.
it seems to me that you are trying to flash with the wrong BIOS. make sure that if you flash, you use the correct one for your mobo.

  • HP Pavillion DV9705ea (DV9000 series) CD/DVD not showing - Cannot boot from CD/DVD - BIOS issues!

    All,
I'm having some issues here with a HP Pavillion DV9705ea machine (DV9700). I'm looking at this for a client. It had Vista home and it dropped the DVD - Wasn't in Device manager either. I checked the drivers and the Microsoft 'Fix It' man, which my client had used (Automated Troubleshooting Services) had put some random, unrelated driver in there. I removed the driver and restored the original, but to no avail.
After much playing within the OS, I managed to convince my client that a rebuild was a good idea - Both to fix this, and a great opportunity for a refresh. I managed to coax them into a Windows 7 upgrade, cool - Or so I thought.
I backed-up all of the data, popped the disk in and attempted to boot. Nothing. The machine is unaware of the DVD. Odd. I managed to ruin the Vista build on the HDD - This was partly because I was sure it was about to be wiped and partly because I wasn't exactly careful when moving data within it and powering it down incorrectly due to freezing! Academic, Vista is gone.
I attempted to boot the recovery manager, using F11 - This worked. However, it throws a zig-zag'ed, stripy screen at around 70%. Have tried this several times.
I booted from a USB HDD and ran a version of VistaPE to update the BIOS from 'F2; to 'F32'. Although this was a success, the DVD is still not recognised. I have used an independantly powered Lenovo USB CD/DVD Burner to boot from and have had no joy.
I took a second HDD, popped it into a different shell and built XP on it. I then put this in the Pavilion and booted - Got the message "Operating System Not Found". I have used my USB HDD again and booted a partition manager, I can see the HDD from here, no problems. I can also see them from VistaPE.
Going forwards - I am going to remove the DVD drive from the machine and attempt to boot from my external drive. I'm in abit of a corner at the moment as all roads arrive at the same destination - Fail.
I'm thinking 3rd party driver required? Any thoughts surrounding this would be helpful!
If anyone can shed any light on the issue, fantastic - If not, well, then it'll be an RMA for my client as this machine is out of warranty as of Feb 2009.
    Cheers, Mike.

    Hello,
Its just to let you know that HP laptop are the worst in the world they have a Graphics chip error in almost every model especially in DV6000 and otherDV. Then, DVD/CD does not detect at all and its all motherboard hardware error. As, i do repairing myself I tried to resold all the joints for the connector for the DVD/CD it worked but as i took off DVD and replug it its as good as dead its motherboard failure.
Now, about cameras DV9000 have a very big issue for failure of builtin cameras i think these both problems have some common reason as both Builtin camera and DVD connector on same side of the MOBO.
Please help People save money and time. Stop them to buy HP. A sincere request.

  • Satellite A100 PSAA8E: Cannot boot from USB after Bios update

    Hi
I downloaded the latest bios (v6) for my satellite a100 (psaa8e) and after updating the old bios, I noticed I can't boot from USB. Is there a way to restore the old bios or will this problem be solved?
    Cheers

I used to press F12 after restart and choose from USB. After downloading the bios, the system refuses to boot from the USB (external CD drive). However, if I place the same CD into the unit's CD drive, and choose boot from CD after pressing F12, the unit boots fine. This only happened after the bios update.

  • Cannot boot Retail 10.6.3 DVD i7 Core Macbook Pro

    Hi,
Hope someone can help as I am totally at a dead end.
I have a unibody Macbook Pro i7 and am looking to perform a restore (to remove the system files and have a clean slate without my brother's excess files getting in the way) the system boots fine.
The macbook is mine now but unfortunately he has lost the restore DVDs, I do have a 10.6.3 retail disk and also a 10.6.1 iMac restore disk but the Macbook Pro fails to boot either.
When I hold C or Hold option and select the DVD it will just stick on the grey apple logo screen and nothing ever happens.
Any ideas please I am a total loose end and don't live near enough to an apple store to have it looked at.

Do you happen to have the installation DVD that came with the MBP?

  • Hyper v enabled for macbook pro

Ive heard that Bootcamp doesnt allow for Hyper-V to be enabled in its bios althought the CPU supports it. Is there a workaround for this avaliable?
I bought the Macbook Pro 15" Oct 2013 edition hardware with the intention of virtualizing in Windows 8.1 Pro and doing labs for certification.
    Thanks

Did you try to boot in osx - install all the latest updates for your software and then reboot in windows and try to install hyper-v again?

  • Can't reliably create a PDF enabled for commenting in Reader

I've hit a brick wall trying to find out why my Acrobat Pro 7.0.8 is broken. As of yesterday, I cannot reliably create a PDF that is enabled for commenting in Reader. I get an error message: "You do not have permission to write to this file." However, this message is halfway false Acrobat does indeed create a PDF where I tell it to. It's just not a reviewable file, which you can tell when you re-open it and see the special dialog box that first pops in front of you, and there's a key/starburst icon in the lower left corner of the Acrobat window. So the resulting output file isn't really enabled, and I've made no progress.
All I know is that before May 1st, this Acrobat Pro feature worked flawlessly every time I used it.
I tested my own file on two other co-workers' PCs and they also cannot save my file as enabled for commenting. One of them has Acro. Pro 7.0.5 and the other one has Pro 7.0.9. Nor can they save other PDF files as enabled for commenting. But creating a short (one-line) PDF from Word or WordPad DOES work, and I can save that file as enabled for commenting.
I tested a few of my existing PDFs: some of them can be output to the reviewable format without any problem, but some of the more recent ones I can't especially if they're larger. Even a Word file as small as 9 pages will not convert. I tried both printing it to the Adobe PDF printer as well as using PDFMaker. Neither one works on this file. But I was able to create reviewable PDFs from simple Word files and some older (April 2008 or earlier) Word files that were longer.
I think some incompatibility happened because of the Windows updates that get silently shoved to our PCs every Tuesday (I work for a large company). But I could be wrong to blame Microsoft.
Would the new Acrobat Pro 7.1.0 update fix this problem?
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=3948
My system: Windows XP, Svc. Pack 2, Word 2003.

After I removed the comma in the filenames of my problematic test files, this solution worked for me, too. I was able to again save the PDFs as enabled for commenting in Adobe Reader (to make them reviewable).
    Thank you, thank you!
This definitely looks like a bug to me, because a comma IS allowed in filenames in both the PC Windows and Mac OS X operating systems.

  • Satellite L840/020 - Cannot enter BIOS after enabling fast boot option

I have a Toshiba L840/020 (PSK8LA-020007) notebook. I recently installed an Intel 330 Series SSD and Windows 8 Pro RTM 6.2.9200 MSDNAA on it and enabled Fast boot option in the BIOS (Boot speed > Fast).
Now I can not get into the BIOS no matter what I do. I tried pressing power button while holding down F2 (as suggested by few other forums) , up on failing that I tried all F keys and Esc, but nothing works. I also tried repeatedly pressing F2 while booting, connected an external USB keyboard and pressed F2 on that , but no matter what I do I cannot get into the BIOS.
When I go to Download section of Toshiba support > Windows 8 64bit, I can also see a BIOS update for my notebook, but when I try to install that I get the following error :
    Error
    Flash process will be terminated!
Current platform have secure boot feature, it must provide NV storage location by IHISI interface.
Please contact OEM BIOS engineer to add the feature.
Without this IHISI interface, the authenticate variables will be modified or cleared by flash process.
If you understand the risk and still want to flash.
You can add the following setting in platform.ini to ignore error.
    [EngineeringErrorDisable]
    SkipSecureBootProtectionCheck=1
    OK
I didnt change platform.ini and flash, without first seeking help from the community.
Please let me know how to get into the BIOS. Thanks.

    Hi
Try firstly INS button and then F2 button.
Then you should be able to access the BIOS I recommend disabling the fast boot in the BIOS if you could successfully enter the BIOS.
    Regarding the BIOS update.
I checked the Toshiba AU driver page and it seems that the BIOS v6.20 is the same like for Win 7.
I think that the BIOS update should be done running the Toshiba preinstalled system since Win 8 is not officially on the market yet and from my knowledge there are some big restrictions updating the BIOS running Win 8

  • Freeze at startup, cannot boot and access bios?

Guys, I'm in very weird situation. After resize one partiion in my hard drive (using Gparted), at startup, I press ESC to access the BIOS options menu, following info displayed on screen Processor Type: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4460 CPU @ 3.20GHzProcessor Speed: 3200MHzL1/L2/L3 Cache Size: ...Memory Size: 4096 MB DDR3Channel 1 A: XMM1 4096 MBBIOS Revision/Date: v80.05 02/05/2015 Press the Esc key for startup menu Then the computer freezed, cannot boot to my OS (Linux Centos 7), I press Esc key but nothing happened. I've tried to reset the BIOS by removing the jumpers and CMOS battery. It works (OS loaded successfully) , but after rebooting, the same problem occur. I'm very confusing. I just bought this desktop recently. Please help me to figure this out. Thanks.

I would suggest doing what is known as a *Safe Boot* on your MacBook. To do this, hold down the shift key on your keyboard during startup. Among other things, this forces a check of your hard drive's directory, which is equivalent to using *Disk Utility* to repair the disk. It may or may not be successful. Note that the Safe Boot process takes a while. Keep holding down the key.
    Best of luck.

    Thank you.

Please restart the Notebook and keep tapping F10 key during the startup to access the BIOS. Once you get to the BIOS please select System Configuration and then go to Device Configuration. Now here you need to look for either BIOS Virtualisation or VT-X and enable the same.

  • After BIOS Update cannot boot Satellite C640 using USB Stick

After upgrading my Toshiba Satellite C640-10E (PSC02E) bios to 2.00 WIN, I cannot boot the laptop using USB Stick, When I checked the BIOS using F2 I was stunned because the USB connected to laptop was labeled as FLOPPY drive. Is there any option to downgrade the BIOS?
    Thanks

From my experience the BIOS is able to boot from
    - USB FDD (floppy disk)
    - Primary HDD,
    - USB Memory stick
    - Network (LAN)
So I dont think that your USB memory is recognized as a USB FDD but the USB FDD appears as a separate boot device.
It would be interesting to know if another USB flash memory would act as your old USB flash stick.
PS: as Tonny suggested: you cannot downgrade because you dont have previous BIOS version only Toshiba service agents are able to downgrade the BIOS using traditional BIOS.
