Cannot boot into Mac OS X after partitioning in Windows

My Mac is a Macbook Pro 17", I got it from my friend (no original disc).
So after upgrading it to Mavericks (I was unable to install Windows using Boot camp of 10.6.8), Boot Camp successfully let me install Windows 8.1 Pro (x64).
However, after installing, whenever I install the Software Support in Windows, Windows always show Blue screen after showing the logo. I was able to restore Windows back. Therefore, I am now using Windows with only basic components, no Boot Camp driver.
The problem is that, I shrink the Boot Camp partition, and create another NTFS partition. Now, I cannot boot into Mac OS anymore. Holding Command + Option + R does nothing, holding Option while startup shows a hard drive named Windows (instead of Mac HD).
Can I make the Mac bootable again? And if possible, is there any available driver for Windows 8.1?

At startup, hold down the Option Key (alt) to choose between Mac OS X and Windows.
To select what system you want to boot into by default:
- when in Windows go to the Control Panel ->BootCamp ->Installed Startup Disks
- when in Mac OS X go to System Preferences->Startup disk.

Cannot boot into mountain lion after I have set the start volume to CD drive

Previously I need to boot from CD so I have set the start volume to CD drive by pressing command+option+P+R at the same time and change the start up volume to CD drive.
But right now, it can just start from CD but cannot boot into Mac OS (Mountain Lion) which is installed in the hard disk.
I have tried to press command+option+P+R at teh same time during bootup but seems like right now it doesn't recognize this command. I have tried pressing "X" or "option" or spacebar, etc during bootup but still it tries to boot from CD.
Anyway I can change the start volume back to my internal hard disk?
I have even disassembled my iMac and the CD drive to remove the previous CD as well. Then it still tries to boot from CD drive but now saying the device is not bootable and ask me to insert a bootup disk. I then tried to put the Mountain lion installation DVD (I previously created the installation DVD by following the DIY way from this link http://www.cultofmac.com/180925/how-to-make-a-bootable-disk-or-usb-drive-of-os-x -mountain-lion/) there in the drive but it still said the device is not bootable.
I have disassembled my iMac again to remove the mountain lion disk right now. So the CD drive is now empty. Anyway I can change the start volume back to my internal hard disk?

Have you ejected the CD/DVD by holding mouse button on bootup?

Dell Venue 7 3740 No-modem: Cannot boot into droidboot after update

Hello!
I bought tablet Dell Venue 7 3740 No-Model for my Mom. Today it is an update from Dell. After the update, I could not boot into droidboot to Wipe cache partition. Does it's mean that Dell remove droidboot option?

P.S. I try to boot into droidboot via Volume Down + Power, but nothing happend, tablet boot as usual.

Dell's update change fastboot, you still should be able to use adb to get into adb.

Macbook pro will not boot into Mac OSX

When i got my MacBook Pro it would boot into Mac OSX fine. Now it wont even give me the option and will only let me boot into Windows which i have running through bootcamp. I have tried reinstalling MacOSX but my OSX installion DVD will not get recognised and i cannot boot off it either. I have tried using 2 other discs still with the same issue. The confusing thing is that the CD/DVD drive works fine and the MacOSx discs work fine in other macs as i have tried it in my brothers machine.

I don't think that the laptop even has Mac installed anymore becuase in an attempt to reinstall Mac the partition was formatted. And I can't boot of the disc becuase it just ejects by itself after a few seconds in the drive.

Cannot boot into Windows XP, should I replace hard drive?

THE PROBLEM: I have not been able to boot into or use Windows XP (SP2) for almost 3 years. I have been using Linux instead for 3 years and am using it now. The Windows Recovery process only half works, it works up until you have to boot up the computer from the hard drive. Then it no longer works. The computer will load the files from the TOSHIBA Recovery and Applications/Drivers DVD that came new with the computer onto the hard drive. But when you get to the point of booting off the hard drive, with newly added Windows & Toshiba files, nothing happens. It does not boot up into Windows XP. In fact I can see the newly added Windows & Toshiba fileson the hard drive when I boot into Linux (Live) off the hard drive.
THE HARD DRIVE (Specs below): I ran a SMART Data check using a Linux (Ubuntu) Disk utility on the hard drive and it passed everything except for Reallocated Sector Count. There are 20 bad sectors. I called the Toshiba 800 # on the DVD and they told me that the problem may be the hard drive. A new TOSHIBA Recovery and Applications/Drivers DVD costs $40. Toshiba also said there is no Windows XP Recovery Console on the DVD.
CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM: I think, and TOSHIBA agreed it is either the hard drive or corrupteD files on the TOSHIBA Recovery and Applications/Drivers DVD
POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS: I have found a couple of sites that seem to have instructions for making a Windows XP Recovery Console CD. And I have thought I might try to run some Windows XP Recovery Console commands from such a CD, such as fixboot, fixmbr, etc. The try to see if I can boot into Windows XP from the hard drive. If I can, then that might suggest he problem is corrupted files on the TOSHIBA Recovery and Applications/Drivers DVD. If I still cannot boot into Windows, then maybe I should replace the hard drive. This should be very easy to do.
QUESTION(S): Does anybody have any comments or suggestions? Does my approach sound good? Do you have any other suggestions?
I have a TOSHIBA Satellite L25 S1216 that I bought new in early 2006. It has a 40 GB (5400 RPM) Enhanced IDE (ATA-6) 9.5 mm height hard disk drive in it. User removable, i.e., it is easy to replace.

My plan is to try to use the TOSHIBA Recovery and Applications/Drivers DVD to load the WIndows XP files onto the hard drive, then use the Windows XP Recovery console CD I downloaded from here

by using commmands such as fxmbr, fixboot, etc to see if I can get the computer to boot up into Windows XP.

A backup plan would be to obtain a Windows XP installation CD from eBay or wherever. They are super cheap now. Then you could install Windows clean and add the drivers and utilities from the website here. Or you could use it to repair-install Windows.

You are entitled to activate Home Edition for free. I understand that even after Microsoft no longer supports Windows XP (in April), they will honor activation attempts.
I wouldn't mess with SSDs. And stick with IDE PATA drives. You won't need to worry about advanced-format technology since that didn't come along until the very recent SATA drives. Your BIOS should support 120GB (KB303013). Some here.

Cannot boot into safe mode

Have a later '09 MP (3.3 quad). Aside from the main OS drive, I formatted a separae drive with a fresh OS and still cannot boot into Safe Mode from either drive. It does start to enter Safe Mode but the progress bar ends about a third way through and the MP restarts. Even tried disconnecting all externals and restarting into Safe Mode. No diff. Note, there is no separte chime when starting the OS (hasn't been for quite some time). Though, there is a multiple chime (3) when resetting the PRAM. Also did the SMC reset. An suggestions or idea?

Three beeps on startup means there is a problem with the memory. Try removing and reseatng each memory module. If that is still a problem, look at your memory map from the apple menu, About This Mac, More Info, System Report, Hardware, Memory and see if each module shows correctly.

I ran onxy, all appeared ok,
I booted from installer DVD,- repaired the drive, - nothing wrong with the drive,
and repaired disk permissions, twice, as a few permissions were incorrect
The only app which automatically logs in user account is KeyCue, and has done so always, and I don't know what what it belongs to. Nothing logs in automatically in the admin account.
I intermittently have a problem with DVDs not mounting, and a safe boot fixes the problem.

normally when i boot in safe mode, when its starts up and reaches the login screen, above this are the words in red safe boot. As the words were missing from the login screen I had assumed that I was not in safe boot. I currently have about 94 GB of HD space. Other than this booting process appears to be normal. What prompted the safe boot was a DVD which mounted ok on insert, had unmounted when I went to eject, a restart and holding down the shift key ejected the disk, and I then tried to do the safe boot. Since I ran disk utility from the installer disk the same DVD has mounted and ejected just fine. The vanishing disk problem started 4-5 months ago, and has always been fixed by a safe boot

Did you purchased the Full Perpetual License from Adobe for $149.00?, if so then what has happened is that you probably downloaded the Creative Cloud trial version which has now expired.
The license key for the perpetual version will not be accepted to activate the CC version.
Uninstall the existing Lightroom and then download the one available from the link below. The uninstall process will not affect your Catalog, Preferences or personal files but will just remove the application. Install the new download and you license key will be accepted.

OK. Start with:
1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to two (2). Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Click on the Erase tab in DU's main window. Select one of the two partitions, preferably the first one, change the Format type: to MSDOS then click on the Erase button.

Can't boot into Mac OS after Windows install via Bootcamp

Hello.
Last night I installed Windows 7 on my Macbook Pro early 2011 via Bootcamp.After some major complications I was able to finally install Windows 7 and boot into it. Now I can't boot back into my "Macintosh HD" partition, it shows a no entry sign.
Hard Disk : 320GB Internal Sata
Partitions : 3 -> Mac, Bootcamp and 10.8 Recovery Partition
The good part is that I can still access the Mac OS partition in Windows and Windows is working perfectly fine. As a matter of fact right now I'm on the bootcamped windows.
I have a full time machine backup but still I am looking for a way to solve this without formatting the HDD.
Things I have tried:
1. Resetting NVRAM and PRAM
2. Booting into 10.8 recovery partition and running DU.
SMART Status : Verified
"Macintosh HD" grayed and Not Mounted
Successful Verify Permissions (Twice)
Is there a way to solve this? Though the Mountain Lion partition shows when I press the Alt/option key on startup but I can't somehow boot into it.

Your problem is OS X is refusing to boot.
There is still a bootable volume on the Macintosh HD partition, it's just not working.
You can #8 Reinstall Just OS X while command r booted from the Recovery partition, as long as you don't use Disk Utility to erase the Macintosh HD partition, your files and programs remain.
Hook the computer via Ethernet cable to a router (or modem, power reset required) with a fast relaible internet connection, you will need your AppleID and password to reinstall OS X.

problem:
Adding 90 gig partition for Windows 7, now won't boot to either Mac or Windows
After a little bit sticky install of Mavericks, I had the thing running fine. I downloaded support sw onto the USB drive as per Bootcamp instructions, and started going through the wizard to install Windows 7.
First try: "error" while creating the partition. I ran the Disk Utitliy, Verify Disk, found an error, ran Repair, it fixed the error
Second try: it started making the partition again, and then apparently just zipped through the partition making real fast (it finished so fast I could hardly catch it), then shut down in an apparent restart (as it's supposed to?), and from then on it won't reboot all the way. I get about 15 seconds of gray screen, the Win 7 disk jerks a little, then screen goes blank and silence. No hd activity. Tried restarting with all the usual key combinations (Command-R, "X" key, Option key, etc, etc). Nothing will bring the Mac login screen up again.
What gives? It is such b.s. for this stuff to be so flaky. This is all totally current software on the Mac side, running fine for days, and an apparently ok partition created. Fix me, Apple.

Got it. Thanks for the help. Isn't there any boot disk thing that I can just stick in there that will jerk the OS sideways and give me the Mac login screen, or did the Bootcamp/partition attack just wreck everything? I don't see why I have to do an entire scrape of my totally updated and formerly working OSX just to retry a routine Bootcamp partition, which the girl at the Mac Store in Seattle here assured me has worked for them all the time. It really is a crock. Maybe I shouldn't bother trying to put Windows 7 on there at all if all these latest versions are so flimsy. I wouldn't want to have to do it all again. But it looks like I'll have to at least once. And send Apple the bill for my wasted time. I ain't feelin' the glamour.

Cannot Boot Into Archlinux After Install

I'm trying to install Archlinux on my Lenovo Z570 laptop. I've already installed Windows on this computer, and I'm installing this in another partition I've created (created 3 partitions when I installed Windows with the default Windows tool).
I'm using a bootable USB drive and have tried both downloading the complete .ISO file and downloading the .ISO for the netinstall and booting through that. Both times I follow the steps in the install guide (as detailed https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/In … ion_Guide) and after I reboot the system, my computer does not boot into anything. I'm trying to use syslinux as my bootloader, although I've tried the steps with Grub and they don't produce any better results. Additionally I installed it with my friend (he installed on his computer) and he used syslinux so I'd just like to keep our system with similar configurations (so I'd like to make the install work with syslinux).
My partition table (extra partitions created with cfdisk) is laid out as:
sda1 primary ntfs
sda5 logical ext4 bootable
sda6 logical ext4
sda3 primary FAT16 (empty formatted drive)
sda4 primary (windows)
I've set sda5 to be my root and sda6 to be my home. They are 15 and 85 gigabytes respectively.
My syslinux.cfg file (/boot/syslinux/syslinux.cfg) is the standard generated file modified such that
APPEND root=/dev/sda5 ro
for both arch and archfallback.
I've also tried the steps in (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Sy … al_Install), specifically using the altmbr, by entering:

However the results are the same.
I've tried the steps in the guide where it mentions setting acpi=off and booting - when looking at a terminal with a wall of text (that I can't move through). I can type but everything I've tried to type, but it always says "Cold not find kernel image: <text>", where <text> is whatever I entered. If I type "boot", it says "Invalid or corrupt kernel image."
I would greatly appreciate any help as I've been trying this for a while.

Any advice on what diagnostics to run? All my config info I posted through viewing my system by inserting the USB drive and booting into a live Arch image - as it is there's nothing I can do by booting the computer without inserting this (or another live medium). Thanks.
