Cannot boot with graphics card installed

Specs:
MSI R9 280 TWIN FROZR
ASRock H97M
Core i5 4750
Corsair 750W
8GB g.skills
First time builder. Build was turning on (CPU/case/GPU fans running) but going to a black screen with no bios or POST. No mobo beep codes because somehow it doesn't have speaker bumpers. With the R9 unplugged, it gets to bios fine. I triple checked the power cables and seating of the card. Made sure in the BIOS it was set to PCI-E as the default graphics source. Looked on ASRock's site but couldn't find compatibility info.
Is the card a dud, or is there anything else I should try?
Thanks so much

CPU socket was fine. I switched the bios to internal graphics and kept the GPU installed, BIOS could see the card in the slot fine.. which at first I thought meant the gpu was definitely busted. But then, I switched the PCI-E Speed from "auto" to "Gen2" and default GPU back to the PCI-E slot and lo, it worked and booted. Tried "gen3", didn't work. Switched the switch at the top and tried Gen3, and it worked!
Weirdly, messing around again I un-switched the switch and put it back to "Auto", and it still boots fine now..
EDIT: Never mind, still need gen3/switched to the left

  • KT4AV will not boot with SATA card installed and no SATA drive

I put a Promise brand SATA II card in a KT4AV motherboard. There is an IDE drive and a DVD drive hooked up to the IDE1 port on the motherboard. That IDE drive has Windows XP Pro SP2 loaded on it.
If I have a SATA drive plugged into the card, the machine works fine. If I remove the STAT drive and leave the card in, I cannot boot to Windows. If I remove the card, it works fine. The only time there is a problem is when the SATA card is plugged in and there is no drive on the SATA card.
As one possible solution, I tried to boot to a Windows CD to reload Windows. It will not even allow me to reload from the CD, it says there is a file missing from the CD. If the SATA drive is hooked up, it will work fine on the CD. Also, I tried multiple CDs and they all give the same message. Because it makes a difference whether the SATA drive is connected or not, I do not believe the CD is the problem.
I have tried looking on Promise's web site for a FAQ or an updated BIOS or for other information about this problem and I found nothing. I have e-mailed them and they did not reply yet.
There is no reason to think this is the fault of the motherboard, but I wanted to see if anyone had any ideas about this problem. Because of the symptoms, I believe it also cannot be the CPU, memory, PSU, video card, etc. Sorry if that makes this post off topic.

Have you tried to disable card in Device Manager when you don't use it? What is the model number of the card you are using?
It is a SATA 300 TX2, which means that it has two SATA ports and one IDE port. I have never used the IDE port, only one SATA.
I have never tried to disable it, but I could try, just to see what it did. It sure would be a lot more work to disable and enable it so that isn't a good long term solution. Among other things, it would mean that I would have to boot up in order to remove the SATA drive. Since it won't boot with the drive removed, it will require more planning.
Will post the results once I have tried. Still no reply from Promise :-(

  • WoN't boot with Graphics Card in.

Hello guys, I am in abit of a pickle here. I just got my new PC working and running with a MSI Z77 MPower motherboard. I get a signal on the monitor using the HDMI on the motherboard and if my graphics card isn't in. But once I do put it in the PCE slot, it wont boot. What is the problem?
I got a HD76950, and a XFX ProSeries XXX Edition 750W PSU. Everything is new ex the graphics card, it worked perfectly in my old case and motherboard.

Refering to https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=165995.msg1215931#msg1215931 that I made on friday. This is a brand new motherboard that I recived today. MSI have offered to service the "old" after I bought another one, so this is starting to become really fun. This has never happend with my two other PCs that I built or my friends that I helped.
    "" Dear Mathias,
Based on the pics you sent us our Headquarters has decided we will exceptionally service your motherboard.

Any chance this is a matter of a file getting deleted or corrupted or is this certainly bad hardware? The router sans Wifi appears fully functional.

You should be able to RMA the device. Search the forum for a post on the limited lifetime warranty:). They explain it good there.

  • Problems with graphics card with CS5

I am working a freelace gig using a G5 computer with Lion.
When using CS5 photoshop there seems to be a problem using
Mode/Index/Custom when using the eyedropper to select colors.
I use the work around "key command" which is totally anoying.
There is also a bug with the color picker/eydropper within the documents.
I read that this has to do with the graphics card.
Which graphics card do I need to resolve this issue?

There are known issues/limitations with graphics cards in earlier machines.
Known issues | Adobe on Mac OS 10.7 Lion
Tested video cards | Photoshop CS5 - Adobe

How do you know if you have more than one graphics card installed? My MacBook Pro does not provide a connectivity to TV via HDMI.

You can go to <http://support.apple.com/specs/#macbookpro> find your Mac's technical specs.
Depending on what kind of video output port you have, you should be able to get an adapter to HDMI.  For example a Mini Display Port to HDMI (I have one of these).

  • H9-1130 Won't boot after new graphics card install.

    Alright, here we go.
I recently bought an EVGA 750 superclocked for my PC. The first time I installed it, I got a black screen. Popped in the old GPU and checked the BIOS. Ended up updating it.
Now, here's the interesting part: I install the EVGA back into my computer, and it ends up getting stuck at the HP boot logo. I went to another thread on this site regarding pretty much the same question, and the people there recommended checking the PSU and the graphics card. Well, I brought my GPU to a friend to plug into his computer, and it booted up just fine. I did check my PSU aswell, and all seems to be fine there. So, yeah, any suggestions on how I can get this card to work on my mobo?
     SPECS:
    AMD FX-8120
    (old) GPU: AMD 7670
(new) GPU: EVGA 750 1gb Superclocked
    PSU: HP 650w
    mobo: Gigabyte 2AC8

    Hi,
I have no suggestions on how to get the EVGA GTX 750 to work in a HP PC that has a legacy version 7 bios (non-UEFI).
I do have one suggestion: Contact EVGA and ask for a remendy other than replacing the motherboard or buying a new PC. Don't expect HP to provide a version 8 UEFI BIOS update for your PC.  HP didn't start producing UEFI BIOS consumer desktop PCs until the middle of October 2012.
You might try Sapphire as they offer both NVIDIA and AMD graphics that are designated UEFI and those that are not designated UEFI.  You need a card that is non-UEFI designated.

  • Install sol 9 08/03 with graphic card Intel 845GV

    Hi,
I have a problem with the installation of Solaris 9 08/03 with the graphic card Intel 845 GV, because i choose in installation time a vesa graphic card or vga card (is not in list of compatible graphic cards) and probe it: i see ok the bitmap with 256 colurs and 800*600 and continue with the installation....
when restart the machine, after copy the microkernel in hd, start solaris, start GUI and i see a violet screen ( i can open a graphic terminal, push right button of mouse) but not see the installation program that install the software cds
My problem is i have not the driver and i dont know where install it in installation time, in case that i have the correct driver.
    Somebody can help me, please??

Well I too had the somewhat the same problems with Intel GBEV2 Motherboard. Infact, it did not install drivers for the builtin VGA. Well, I switched over to GeForce2 as it did support. If anyone has a solution, please do tell me too...

  • New Graphics card install just beeps, stuck at boot screen

I purchased a NVidia GEFORCE GT730 that I installed in the spare graphics card slot. But when I boot up it just beeps at me. The monitor displays the HP screen but will not respond to keyboard input. I've been into the BIOS and Legacy is enabled but there is no option to disable "Secure Boot". Do I need to get my money back is this graphics card not compatible? I did notice this card recommends a 300w power supply and this PC has a 250w but I didn't think a 50w difference would'nt allow the card to be recognized by the PC.
    Thank you.

Your power supply is pretty weak for that card.
Here's one that would do the trick and it's not expensive. Just something for you to consider.

  • Cannot use seconf graphics card with Hp envy Recline

The HP recline has 2  display adapters , INtel integrated 4600 and Nividia Gt730A. I tried to force use of the Nividia card by selecting it in the nividia control panel as the default card but it does not work. I ran dxdiag and it still show intel as the default card.
I  tried to run 3DMark11 buy selecting Nividia but it wont run and I gethis error message:
"Workload Single init returned error message: No outputs found on DXGI adapter"
3Dmark11 will run with either Auto or Intel graphics card selected (but with very poor frame rates )
So now I am not sure whether the GT730 is working of not  or is there something wrong with DXGI? , DX11?
    Advise please.

The 3D mark11 support forum informed that this is normal.  Explanation is as follows:
    Quote:
"This is due to how your system is set up. The dedicated video card has no outputs - it isn't connected to a monitor. Instead your system uses some fairly elaborate gaffer tape in the video driver to render things in the dedicated card, then copy them to the integrated card video buffer which then displays them to the monitor.
In systems like this only "auto" will work. It should still use the dedicated card (score should be different from using just the integrated one forced). "
    End Quote:
At end of the 3DMark 11 Tests , the summary did indicate that GT730A was used .  So it's not really an issue but rather the way the dual graphics cards work in the HP Envy Recline.

  • Bios freezes on Hp IPISB-CH2 with new graphic card installed

I own HP Pavilion Elite HPE H8 1010cs. Motherboard is HP IPISB-CH2. I bought new graphic card GAINWARD Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 4GB together with 600W PSU Corsair CX600M. First I tried my new PSU with my old GPU nvidia 550Ti. It worked perfectly. But when I replaced old card with new GTX 970, bios freezes on the first power on window. Escape does not work. Should I return new graphic card, or is there still some hope in this?

    Hello @Tomas83,
I understand that you are having issues getting your HP Pavilion HPE h8-1010cs Desktop PC towork with your Gainward GeForce® GTX 970 Phantom 4GB Graphics Card. I believe the reason you are experiencing this issue is the the break in the downward compatibility on the PCIe slots was broken at around the Gen 2.1 mark and you are trying to put a Gen 3.0 card in a Gen 1.0 slot. This in essence makes your computer incompatible with the graphics card you have chosen to use.  I am providing you an article on the overclock.net website titled The final answer to the controversial PCIe x16 version compatibility., where the author explains what I described and goes into how he made the determination. I would advise you review the article if you have any questions concerning the issue you are facing.
I hope I have answered your question to your satisfaction. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • K9A2 CF-F troubles with graphics card

My specs are in my signature.  This is a new build.  Everything went without a hitch until I tried to install my video card.
I'm getting the following error in the Device Manager: Code 10 "device cannot start"
When I boot up the computer tried to load CCC and then displays an error message like "Ati device no present or drivers are not working properly..."
This is what I've done so far:
    1) Tried a different video card -> same error
    2) Uninstalled and re-installed video card drivers (and different versions) -> same error
    3) Tested PSU with a voltmeter -> same error
    4) Set motherboard to "failsafe" and rebooted -> same error  >:(
    5) Tried it with 1.3 bios and 1.5 bios -> same error
    6) Tried video card in second PCI-e slot -> same error
    7) Tried it with drivers on the install disk and with updated drivers via MSI Update -> take a guess
Here's the kicker: this is my second board.
I RMA'd the last one because of this issue.  NOW, I'm thinking "user error".  I'll gladly eat crow if I could just get my video card to work.
    Help please.

Either you have something creating a short, or there is something else preventing detection of the ATI card, like not seated properly. You do have motherboard drivers installed, I suppose.
How about something from the old school? Put the initial ATI installation CD in. Enter Device Manager, choose to update the driver for the graphics card, and point it to the CD.
Thanks for the feedback but I tried that already.  The driver clearly installs but the error comes up after I try to start CCC.  Also, the display property tags are not present (via 'right click' Properties from desktop) Thing is I get the same error with the 8800GTS (Code 10 device cannot start).  I'm hoping it's a simple OS error that will clear up when I reinstall tonight.
    I'll let you know.

  • Problems with graphics card running windows on bootcamp..

I currently have Windows Vista 32 bit installed on my mac with bootcamp. The reason I have it installed is I want to run an MMO RPG (DDO) on my mac and it is only supported on windows.
However it will not allow me to play it as it says that no graphics device could be located (Game error 122 for those that play it)
My question is how I utilise the graphics card from the mac onto windows, as the VGA adaptor doesn't seem to be sufficient??
Either that or does anyone know of a way I can play DDO through MAC OS??
    Any help much appreciated.
    Thanks.

Just tried what you recommended, but still to no avail..
    What's confusing me is the following;
1)When checking system performance it tells me that my graphics are as follows
Graphics - Desktop performance for Windows Aero
Gaming Graphics - 3D Buisness and Gaming graphics performance.
2)http://svc.systemrequirementslab.com explains that I cannot run the game due to my graphics being inferior (I highly doubt this).
Minimum: 64 MB video card with Hardware T&L
    (NVIDIA GeForce 2+ / ATI Radeon VE+)
You Have: Standard VGA Graphics Adapter
    3)Just as the game is about to boot up it gives me the following message;
[Game Error 122] No suitable graphics device was found. Are you running through a rmeote session or a VM? If not, please check your video hardware capabilities.
I'm literally 30seconds away from throwing this macbook out the window, please can anyone help?!
    Thanks x
