Cannot bring up Home Sharing option in iTunes dropdown menu on my computer

I have confirmed that I have the required version of iTunes (11.0.4) on both of my Macs and can bring up "Home Sharing" on the left hand top dropdown menu on one of them (with OSX 10.8.4) -to which I want to transfer my iTune library - but not on the other computer (with OSX 10.6.8).  Don't really want to change other computer to OSX 10.8 - but that shouldn't matter?  Can anyone help.

Welcome to the Apple Community.
The option is for turning it on, which you have now done.

  • I cannot connect to Home Sharing on iTunes, so that I can send movies and TV shows to another computer.  The other "library" does not come up in the box on the upper right side of the iTunes screen.  I tried disconnecting each computer from Home Sharing.

I cannot connet to Home Sharing on iTunes, so that I can send movies and TV shows to another computer.  I cannot find the name of the other computer in the "Library" box on the upper right side of the iTunes screen.  Do I need to have the other computer connected to the Cloud?

Mkae sure you have enabled Home Sharing using the same AppleID on both computers.

    Hi, Dave.
If you're using the BlackBerry browser, you can't configure anything to bypass the RIM servers.  I believe you may do so by using the Opera browser, but I haven't tried it myself so cannot comment with authority.
I hope that clears up the issue for you.
    - If my response has helped you, please click "Options" beside my post and mark it as solved. Clicking the "thumbs up" icon near the bottom of my response would also be appreciated.

  • Home Sharing option not appearing

I cannot see a 'SHARED' folder or Home Sharing option even after authorising homeshare on all 3 computers.  Any ideas why I can't see this and how to get this up?

You are trying to use home sharing, you are logged into the same account for sharing on both computers (and they are connected to the same wifi network), and what happens when you try to copy your library ? Can you update your iTunes so that they are the same on both ?

Home Sharing is designed to work on your local network not across the internet/cloud.
Stuff is accessed under the Computers column where your local iTunes library on a local computer would appear.
Home Sharing would share your iTunes content (i.e. stuff stored in itunes on the computer, not in the cloud) with AppleTV or an iPad etc on the SAME network.
AppleTV2 will not be able to see itunes content on the work computer over the internet.  It's not designed to.  if the work computer was on the home network it would.
iCloud is in it's infancy and is not a mature product - iTunes TV Show purchases appear on AppleTV, but currently music does not unless you are subscribed to iTunes Match. I find this rather odd to be honest, along with the inability to buy music on AppleTV2.  Movies purchased in iTunes are not authorised for iCloud viewing currently either.
Maybe it has something to do with iTunes Match 'getting in the way' - i think they assume you'll use that whereas you really want to be able to access Purchased music from the cloud without subscribing to itunes Match which is overkill for some.

  • Can i have two internet connections connected to two airport extremes separately without disturbing the home sharing option.

can i have two internet connections connected to two airport extremes separately without disturbing the home sharing option. i want to have both the airport extremes to use a single imac for streaming music or video to my apple tv's at different places where one apple tv is in the range of one airport extreme.it's not a problem if both airport extremes have different wifi id's with separate internet. The imac which i use for streaming the music and videos is only in the range of only one airport extreme.is it possible if i can stream music or videos to my apple tv which is not in the range of same airport extreme which i use for imac but in the range of other airport extreme.
Finally what i need is i want to use two internet networks as my highest possible internet bandwidth is about 1mbps.and i know that i cant mix both the networks and make it as 2mbps.

Yes, that is possible. Please check out the following Apple Support article for details on how.

  • Have to restart Apple TV to get Home Sharing to work, iTunes 12, Yosemite

I am running Yosemite 10.10.2 and the latest Apple TV software 7.0.3 and using the latest build up iTunes 12.
Nearly every time I sit down at the Apple TV to connect to my iMac through the home sharing system that is accessed when you click "Computer" on the Apple TV, I am unable to load video content. The videos just load (spin) forever. My Apple TV has a wired connection to a Apple Router being used as a Ethernet hub. Everything has a wired connection, but Home sharing only works intermittently. The sure fire fix is restarting the Apple TV which will restore connectivity. I have had this exact same set up for a while but have only recently experienced this issue after upgrading to Yosemite and iTunes 12.
I have tried changing the name of he iMac which restored connectivity after Yosemite was loaded initially, but I am still unable to figure out why I have to restart my Apple TV every time to get home sharing to work.

On the ATV go to settings and test your network. You must choose the proper network speed you have, its mostly a guess so you'll need to try again if needed. Once done then sign out of home share on the ATV and on the Mac then sign back in and finish by restarting the ATV. This was my sequence of events to get home sharing to work. Airplay is a good backup though.

  • The home sharing option disappears. ??

I have two PCs and I am trying to turn on the home sharing and I go through the steps until it says "Home sharing is now on." etc. and the button says "done" and if I click it, the home sharing option on the left disappears. Why!?

  • HT3819 What's the difference, other than the 24.99, between Home Sharing (free) and iTunes Match (24.99)?

What's the difference, other than the 24.99, between Home Sharing (free) and iTunes Match (24.99)?

Home sharing allows you to share content between computers and devices on your wifi network - so if you have your library on your computer's iTunes and you want to access it on your iPad then both your computer and iPad have to be turned on, iTunes open on your computer, and both need to be connected to the same wifi network.
iTunes Match will upload your music library to the cloud (including music copied from CDs and from other sources) allowing you to accces it from your computer or iPad without requiring your main computer to be on - and if you have access to a network when not at home you can download or stream music from it. It's also acts as a second backup of your content (you should still maintain your own backup of your library).
    iTunes Match, from http://www.apple.com/itunes/itunes-match/ :
Once your music is in iCloud, you can play it from any of your devices. Just browse the complete list of all your music stored in the cloud and tap to play to it. You can store up to 25,000 songs in iCloud (more if songs are purchased from the iTunes Store), but only what you play or download is stored on your device. Tap the iCloud download button to download music from an artist, album, or playlist. So you have immediate access to a huge music library without having to worry about the storage space on your device.
But whether it's worth it only you will know. Personally I don't use it, I keep and maintain my own backup of my content and sync it to my devices so that I don't have to rely on being online to access what I might want to listen to,

  • Home sharing locks up iTunes

I have windows XP and am trying to initiate home sharing.  When I en my ID and password into ITunes and select create home sharing, ITunes completely locks up.  I'm using the latest version 10.2.2.14, does anyone have a thought on how to fix?  I have tried numerous times with all applications closed, firewall off and antivirus disabled.  Thank you!

Oh... just to make it more bizarre, I have a second iMac and was able to set it up with Home Sharing but since it's not the main computer, I only get Music and Podcasts or something. Still attempting to figure out the other mess though.

  • Can't find Home Sharing from 'File' on the menu bar as suggest by Apply Support. Help?

I am trying to set up Home Sharing. Have followed instructions to the menu bar, "edit' drop down however do not see the 'Home Sharing' option as noted in Apple Support. I am a relatively new to the "Mac" family and would like to know if I am doing something incorrect. Thanks.

    Hi TCL67,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. Based on what you stated, it sounds like you do not see Home Sharing under Edit or File on the Menu bar. I would recommend that you read these articles, they may be helpful in troubleshooting your issue.
