Cannot Burn Audio CD's - Freeze

I've been a user of iTunes since Christmas '04. I've burned multiple CD's for my private use, but recently I have been unable to burn Audio CD's.
Data CD's burn just fine, but for a while I haven't been able to burn Audio CD's.
What happen is this: I press the 'Burn' button, and it checks playlist and media, and then freezes. A few things I've noticed are
- The 'checks' go grey while they're checking the playlist, but when it freezes they're back to blue
- The nuclear icon iTunes uses for burning stops spinning when it freezes.
- Just iTunes freezes
- Any song that was being played still plays and continues, but you can't use any of the player's functions
- It's only started happening since the iTunes v5 upgrade

hi Molly!
hmmm. a few of the burning issues from 5 appear to have been fixed by 6 (i've seen a couple of reports). but best to get some additional input into whether the upgrade helps with your particular sort of issue.
b hi y'all! anyone got past a "burning freeze" by upgrading to 6? any words of experience gratefully accepted!
love, b

  • Cannot Burn Audio CD

I followed the instructions on how to burn an audio CD, as itunes now seems to default to burn a data CD. I went into Edit > Preferences, click Advanced, and clicked Burning. I selected Audio CD as the Disc Format. Then it instructs me to press OK...... but I cannot find this button. Where is it? Everytime I exit out of this screen, it is still set to burn a data disc. Please help. Thanks, Beth.

    hmmmm.
let's try an experiment aimed at working out if this might be a problem with the itunes preference files in your usual XP user account.
    here's the experiment.
head into your user accounts control panel and create a new user account with full administrative rights. (there's help documentation on how to do that at the left of the control panel screen.) while you're in that control panel, switch off "fast user switching" in your logging-on preferences.
now log out of the old account and log into the new account.
launch itunes. eventually you'll see a blank library screen. don't worry, this is normal. (your music is still safe in the library in your usual user account.)
head into your burning preferences tab in the itunes in that account. can you see the OK button in that tab?

  • Cannot burn Audio CDs (only Data CDs) since upgrade to Itunes 7

I'm having a problem and it is very frustrating. Worked fine with Ver. 6 but you had to download to ver. 7 before you could purchase any new music so I did. Big mistake! My problem is burning CDs. I can only burn "Data CDs." I went to "Edit" and then to "preferences" then to "Advanced" and then to "Burning" -At that point you have a choice to choose Audio CD burning or Data CD burning. I will not stay on Audio CD burning - keeps defaulting to Data CD burning and there is no "save" button or anything to stop it from happening. When it burns from the data cd it the cd will only play in my computer - not in my car or other player. Would you know how to correct this???? to stop the default? My ipod is fine. I hope Apple takes care of this soon.

Ok button was hidden by tool bar

  • Cannot burn audio CD - Error 4261

Please help. I downloaded the new version of iTunes & now I can't burn CDs. I had no problem before.
When I try to burn I get the error "The attempt to burn a disc failed. An unknown error occurred. (4261)."
How do I tell what this error means?

According to Toonz, 4261 is "Track following error"
Top fixes for any burn issue in iTUnes is...
    1) Goto the PC makers site and manually look for updates for your PC, especailly BIOs and chipset/IDE controller updates and firmware updates for the CD ROM (If it came with your PC when you bought it)
    2) Slow the burn speed from "Max" to something like 12x 8x or 4x. you do this by going to edit>preferences>advanced tab>burn sub tab
    3) Try a different brand or type of Blank CD
You can also goto Help>run CD diagnostic and copy/paste the whole report here (So we can help you) and on apples site here (So they recieve feedback about the issue and help them build a better CD burn engine in future versions of iTunes) http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/windows/cddiagnostics/

  • Can't burn audio CD with new iTunes 7.0.1.8

I installed iTunes 7.0.1.8 and now I cannot burn audio CDs. I can only burn data CDs. When I try to change preferences under "edit" "preferences" "advanced" "burning" to audio there is not way to save the change. In other words, there is no "ok" button. It reverts back to data CD and the button on the bottom right remains "burn data disc". Any suggestions?

I'm having troubles, too. If anyone could help, I'd appreciate it.
    1) How do I manually delete my podcasts now that they don't show up in my library any longer?
    2) Also, none of my non-music items are showing up anywhere in my library as they are not music. Items like books on CD that I downloaded and are genres for audiobooks but the system doesn't consider them audiobooks. Please help!
    Thanks.

  • Cannot Burn or Import CDs - Error 1450

    Help!
I cannot burn audio CDs or import from audio CDs in iTunes.
I have tried upgrading, downgrading, deauth'ing and auth'ing my PC, and looked on FAQs to no avail.
I have run the CD diagnostics and get error 1450 from it. Is anyone able to help me please?
    Thanks - Gordon

just to follow on from that - i have 'itunes music library' (that from what i gather reading on this site doesn't contain all the info about my playlists and playcounts) but when i find just the 'itunes library' and try to open it a box pops up from windows telling me it can't open it as it odesn't recognise it - i think this has something to do with the fact that a while back i moved my music from my c drive to my e drive.

  • Cannot open burned audio CD's any longer

I am running OS X Lion 10.7.5 with all updates and cannot open burned audio CD's anymore.  DVD's and store bought music CD's work.  Any ideas?

Memorex do not have a high reputation, and some superdrives are more picky than others.
What you could try is to make a copy of the DVD on a recommended brand of media, and see if that works on the iMac.

  • Can no longer burn audio cd's -- urgent -- is iTunes update defective?

I'm a composer-- we're getting ready to record another cd and I desparately need help here!!
I can no longer burn an audio cd from a play list! It burns but not as an audio. I also looked on directions and I'm supposed to be able to do this.
These are my tunes that I wrote and uploaded into the library and then moved to a play list
When trying to figure out what happened, I noticed that itunes had been automatically updated to the most current version on my computer --
I was still on 10.3 which doesn't support it -- I've since downloaded the 10.3.9 (plus checked other required software that's supposed to be updatyed) and still cannot burn the cd's
    Please help --

I won't pretend this is a welcome suggestion...but if worst comes to worst, you could consider purchasing Toast.

  • My burned audio CD/DVD from iTunes doesn't play on a CD/DVD audio player

If I burn audio CD or DVD from my iTunes, I cannot play this music on an external player. Any recommendations? Thanks
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Hi I just burned an MP3 CD straight from iTunes, and it doesn't play on any MP3 CD player I've tried it on (car MP3 deck, DVD player that plays audio CDs, and MP3s). Audio CDs burned from iTunes work fine though.
I've read somewhere, that when burning MP3 CDs from iTunes, iTunes burns it with Apples standard format, rather than CD players standard format of ISO 9660. And that is the reason why burned MP3 CDs from iTunes only plays on a Mac.
A work around I've done was select all the songs from my list duplicate them in another folder, and then reconvert them in MP3s (so that I don't have to search all over the place for each MP3 file). I then burned these MP3s onto a CD-R using toast's MP3 CD format. And it works on all my MP3 CD players. However, in doing this process, I've lost all the tags for each MP3. The only thing that comes up in the display is the name of the song. Artist, Album, etc... don't show up anymore.
Is there a way of burning an MP3 CD that will play on all MP3 enabled players, while keeping all ID Tags intact, in iTunes?
    Thanks.

  • Cannot burn dvd without theme

I cannot do what would seem to be the simplest step in imovie and idvd. I have created my customize movie in imovie (no canned themes or audio) and when I go to the shre menu and choose idvd so I can burn my movie, I cannot burn a dvd without first choosing a theme. I don't need a theme...I wnat my movie just the way it is. Please help. This is so frustrating.

  • Unknown Error 4300, cannot burn disk in iTunes

    Good morning,
I am having the problem of not being able to burn a disc in iTunes. I am getting the message of unknown error (4300). It acts like it's burning then I get that message.
I have did set the properties in my computer to burn audio disk and also unchecked includ cd text in iTunes in the burn options as suggested on another thread.
    Any other suggestions?
    TIA,
    Blondie

    Hey there,
I am also having the same problem. I recently upgraded my system from an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 3800+ and Asus A8N-E motherboard to an Intel Core-Duo E8400 and Asus P5Q motherboard. The DVD drive, an LG GSA 4167b, is the same. iTunes itself runs much smoother now, but for some reason will not burn CDs (unknown error 4300). This is curious, as I have burned many CDs with this drive using iTunes on my old system. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling as well as removing and old version (4) of a Nero Suite I had kicking around. I cannot seem to find a list of iTunes error codes anywhere and there does not seem to be any real answers to this error code. Yes, the drive is plugged in properly (sATA)
    thanks very much!

  • Drive Stopped Burning Audio Discs

My Disc drive (G5 3 years old) seems to have stopped burning Audio discs using Toast. It seems to be doing data discs ok, but it appears domestic and computer players will now no longer accept my audio discs (Even both my Macs). Its always worked fine in the past and nothing has really changed to my system. Is this the sign of an ageing drive and do I therefore need a replacement? Is there anything I can do? I have tried burning different speed settings.
    Thanks folks

If the G5 is also having trouble reading the discs it sounds as if the drive is producing really bad burns. Having either the cd or dvd side of things stop working properly is a classic sign of a drive on its way out. The drive begins to produce burns with much higher error rates, and more serious kinds of errors, than usual. All drives produce errors with each burn, but it's the kind of error and intensity of the error that matters. Drives have built in error correction circuitry that can handle the most common error type as long as they are below a certain level. Older drives often begin to either produce much higher error rates that the reading drive can't compensate for, or produce a non-correctible type of error. To make matters worse, the number of errors depends not only on the drive, but the relationship between the drive and disc being used. Each drive has firmware written to tell the drive how to write to different brands of media. Apple rarely updates the firmware on their drives, so after a few years the drive has to guess the writing strategy for each disc and this too can lead to high error rates. And to confuse things even further, companies that sell discs rarely make them, but buy them from oem manufacturers. So one batch of say TKDs may be Optidisc and another CMC and you have no way of knowing by just looking at the disc- you are thinking you are using the same discs but aren't.
So one or more of these factors is giving you burns so bad that the drive the disc was burned on is having trouble reading it, and that's a very bad sign. I would suggest from my experience with many drives that a drive behaving as yours is - one that is 3 years old - should be replaced. A new drive will only run you about $40, it will have new firmware allowing it to work with current discs, and should be faster also.
If you have access to a pc there are actually a number of programs that will allow you to test the discs and see what type and how many errors the burn has produced (I find this one of the few redeeming values of PC's). These programs are invaluable in situations like yours, and as I said, from my experience, the programs usually indicate with your symptoms very high error levels or errors that cannot be corrected.

  • How to burn audio only from a Video Single

I have a video single as part of personal mix in itunes. When I try to burn the mix, all of the tracks burn except the video single. The dialog box says that burning is disabled for this track. I assume this is because the video content is imbedded in the file.
This is somewhat confusing as the track was noted as a single and separate video at the time of purchase. Is there any way to convert the content so that it can be included on an audio CD?
    G4 Powerbook   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Due to DRM, you cannot burn purchased videos, except for backup on Data CD/DVD.
The only way to separate the audio is to use a capture application like Wiretap Pro or Audio Hijack (Pro). Latest versions can be found on versiontracker.com.
    Hope this helps.

  • Burning audio CDs - getting "skipping" on playback

Recently when I burn audio CDs from iTunes to my Sony i.LINK drive (CD-RW CRX160E), even after reducing the burn speed to 1X (!!!), some of the tracks are turning out unplayable -- they play with a sort of skipping-like interference. I'm using HP cd-r 52x 700 MB/80min recordable compact discs. Could it be the media? Any other suggestions? This drive has worked fine for years (at "maximum possible speed" setting, in fact). Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Man, this is frustrating (and wasteful).

    D: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-U20N, Rev HX12
I'm pretty sure that's the latest Lenovo-supplied firmware for that drive.
Force Optical Power Calibration before burn is turned on in the preferences.
I wonder if that's our issue? It's not a user-configurable preference (or at least, it never used to be), and it's set to off by default (at least it used to be in older versions of iTunes). But a transient issue might click it to "on", and the setting might now be causing the issue.
We should be able to reset it by rebuilding the iTunes preferences. For the basic technique, see the "Remove iTunes preference files" section from the "User-specific troubleshooting" section of the following document:
[iTunes for Windows Vista or Windows 7: Troubleshooting unexpected quits, freezes, or launch issues|http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1717]
Try running your diagnostics again after each rebuild to see whether the Force Optical Power Calibration before burn has been switched off. (I'm afraid I don't know which set of prefs it lives in nowadays.) Once it looks to be reset, try another experimental burn and see if she's still giving the 4450.
*Prior to doing the preference file rebuilds:* Best to make a note of any custom preferences you have set up for your iTunes. (Rebuilding pref files returns preferences to their defaults ... so you'll likely have to set some of those custom preferences up again from scratch.) Also make a note of any third-party plugins/add-ons you have installed. You may have to reinstall those after the rebuilds.
*Things to watch out for during the rebuilds*
Rebuilding the preference files in the \Local\ location causes the iTunes license agreement to run. So you'll need to agree to that again.
Rebuilding the preference files in the \Roaming\ location causes the iTunes Setup Assistant to run. When prompted to do so, *do not* add files to your iTunes library. (Otherwise you'll end up with a library full of duplicates.)
