Cannot burn cd's in itunes 9

Every time I try to burn an audio cd I get the message "the attempt to burn a disc failed. The burn failed because of a medium write error". What is the problem is it itunes or is something wrong with my device?

I cannot copy my playlist onto a CD so I can play it in my car.
I insert the disk into the computer and nothing happens. It looks like it searches for the disk and nothing happens. I just got i-tunes 9.1.
I was able to do it before and now nothing.
Could anyone help? I would appreciate it.
Thanks

  • I cannot burn a CD from iTunes...please help!

I desperately need to back up all the music I have purchased and I cannot burn a CD from iTunes for some reason. I went through the trouble-shooting on this website and still had no luck. I tried to load the songs into my iPod and transfer them to my laptop iTunes as a backup but there's no way all my music will fit on my Nano. So I'm wondering if there's any other way to back up my music files...can I copy them to a zip drive or external hard drive? I am so not tech-savvy and I have so much money invested in my iTunes library. Thanks in advance!

If iTunes still isn't burning after the repair install, bob, could you post your diagnostics for us please?
In iTunes, go "Help > Run Diagnostics". Uncheck the boxes other than DVD/CD tests, as per the following screenshot:
    ... and click "Next".
When you get through to the final screen:

  • Cannot burn to DVD in iTunes 6 - unknown error occurred [261]

I'm having issues burning a playlist to DVD in iTunes 6 - it rejects the DVD and gives me an error message "The attmept to burn a disc failed. An unknown error occurred [261]." If I try to burn the same playlist to a CD, there is not a problem. In my "burning" preferences within iTunes, I have selected "Data CD or DVD", but when I pull the preferences up again, it only says "Data CD". I click this option again and it gives me "Data CD or DVD", but never seems to keep the "DVD" part of the option.
I have been able to burn to DVD from playlists in the past, but I believe it was before I upgraded to iTunes 6.
    Any suggestions?

Correction: I cannot burn CDs or DVDs of playlists in iTunes 6.0.1. I have no problem burning CDs in other applications and could burn CDs prior to updating to iTunes 6.

  • Cannot Burn CD-R from iTunes

About week ago, could not completely burn CD-R on iTunes...was able to burn two out of 15 attempts. The error message "Attempt to burn a disc failed. Burn failed due to a medium write error." No such problems since bought this Mac little over 3 yrs ago (yes off warranty)
I am using Sony CD-R's and have tried using different speeds such as 2X and 4X. Have generally used Sony CD-R's without any problems until last week.
Am using iMac 27 OS X 10.5.8 with 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. The SuperDrive is OPTIARC DVD RW AD-5630A.
    Any help appreciated!

Sorry, Walter. I can' t help except to say I have the same problem. The Itunes burn process either keeps prompting to insert a disk when I have put one in the tray., or it displays the message "The Attempt to burn a disc failed. The disc can't be burned; it might be incompatible with this disc drive. Please try a different brand of disc or try try burning at a slower speed".
    I was trying a speed on 1x. There isn't a slower speed.
What settings do I need to make the CD burn to work?
These are the details of the CD burner
    OPTIARC DVD RW AD-5630A:
    Firmware Revision: 1AHM
    Interconnect: ATAPI
Burn Support: Yes (Apple Shipping Drive)

    Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, CD-Raw, DVD-DAO
Media: To show the available burn speeds, insert a disc and choose View > Refresh
The CD being used was a Sony CD-R 50cdq80sp5a. Haven't got a CD-RW to try but I do have 47 more CD-Rs ....! have raised a call with Sony

  • Cannot burn CD after installing Itunes

I recently isntalled Itunes and cannot now burn CD's outside of Itunes. Whenever I click on the CD-RW drive i get the error message "incorrect fucntion". There is also now a tab missing from the properties of the drive. I can update the registry setting for this drive to let windows know it is a writebale drive (change the type from a 3 to a 2) and that gives me back the missing tab but then Itunes complains that it needs to be reinstalled because the CD settings have changed. When Itunes gets re-installed the drive type goes back to a 3 from the 2 and I can no longer write CD's using the drive! A work colleague of mine appears to have the same issue (we have the same laptop type and are running the same version of windows). Has anyone else experienced this issue?

Whenever I click on the CD-RW drive i get the error message "incorrect fucntion".
do you have an old version of Easy CD Creator on your PC? usually that symptom is associated with that. see:
"Incorrect function" error message when you access the CD-ROM drive, the DVD-ROM drive, or the CD-RW drive
if you don't currently have one of those versions of Easy CD Creator on the PC, have you ever had oneinstalled on the PC? if so, leftover device filter entries in your Registry may be conflicting with the itunes device filters, causing the issue. if that's what is going, the techniques from the following document may be of some help:

Ok, that gives some usefull info.
Mostly this occours with iTunes for Windows on Windows systems.
On Mac it is most likely a permissions problem. This can happen sometimes after major system updates.
    First Aid
    Close all running applications
    Go to Disk Utility
Force a permission repair to your harddrive ( e.g. MacIntosh HD)
Ignore upcoming messages like "could not repair permissions on file xy" There caused as you perform the task on a running system and opened files could not be touched.

  • Cannot burn cd's from itunes - frustrated to say the least

I have created a playlist from cd's of my own and a few from itunes. I bring up the playlist and click on the burn cd circle and it asks to "insert a blank cd". After I do so and close the door it then says "checking media". After a minute or so it spits the cd out for a few seconds and the cd door closes again and then nothing. I tried to change the burn speed to 4 and it did nothing. I've tried to use different cd's. I've updated all drivers to no avail. It worked one time before after several attempts, but that's it. Does anyone know what the heck is going on?

  • Hi, i have a lot of problems, artwork muddled and losing tracks, cannot download latest version of itunes, unable to burn onto disc. Can anyone help, i am not great with these things!!

Hi lots going wrong with my music library, artwork is muddled up and also losing tracks because of this, also unable to download latest version of itunes and finally i cannot burn my music to disc. i have an external hard drive and a fairly large library, around 30,000 on it. Any suggestions!!

Log in to the Developer forum. You will find instructions on how to install the lastest beta. Your problem is the beta you have installed has expired. All of them did on October 5; you will find hundreds of threads discussing this. If you have a beta it is assumed that you will continue as a beta tester, so a simple update using iTunes will not work.
If you no longer want to be a beta tester install the GM 7.0.2 by restoring from iTunes using DFU mode.

  • HT2953 After I burn a CD onto iTunes, I cannot find it in my iTunes library

I want to burn an Album onto iTunes. It is imported. However, it does not come under that artist.
    What do I do?

    Hello Marks232,
There are two places I would check, the fires would be in iTunes in the movies sections. There should be a Rental tab in that section. If you do not see it then check out the following article to see if the file has been downloaded to your computer.
Where are my iTunes files located?

If you still cannot find it, then refer to the following article for issues about your purchase.

  • Unknown Error 4300, cannot burn disk in iTunes

    Good morning,
I am having the problem of not being able to burn a disc in iTunes. I am getting the message of unknown error (4300). It acts like it's burning then I get that message.
I have did set the properties in my computer to burn audio disk and also unchecked includ cd text in iTunes in the burn options as suggested on another thread.
    Any other suggestions?
    TIA,
    Blondie

    Hey there,
I am also having the same problem. I recently upgraded my system from an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 3800+ and Asus A8N-E motherboard to an Intel Core-Duo E8400 and Asus P5Q motherboard. The DVD drive, an LG GSA 4167b, is the same. iTunes itself runs much smoother now, but for some reason will not burn CDs (unknown error 4300). This is curious, as I have burned many CDs with this drive using iTunes on my old system. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling as well as removing and old version (4) of a Nero Suite I had kicking around. I cannot seem to find a list of iTunes error codes anywhere and there does not seem to be any real answers to this error code. Yes, the drive is plugged in properly (sATA)
    thanks very much!

    Please help.

iPods don't look for the library. iTunes does.
I recently moved my itunes music folder
    Don't move your music folder.
    Let iTunes do it.
Point iTunes prefs to the location where you wan tit.
Then go to menu Advanced -> *Consolidate library*.
This will copy the iTunes music folder to the location in iTunes prefs.
