Cannot burn CDs after installing Tiger

I recently installed Tiger on my G4. When I try to copy a CD in Toast Lite, I get a message reading, "The volume...could not be unmounted. All open files and programs on this volume must be closed first." However, I have no trouble burning individual audio or other files to a disc, the problem only occurs when I try to copy a CD, even if it is not copyright protected. I also tried to access the Lacie website to see if I need any updates, but I have not been able to access the Lacie site for some mysterious reason.
Any advice would be most helpful. Thank you!

I don't know why but some time ago, when I found this problem, after "The volume...could not be unmounted. All open files and programs on this volume must be closed first." I clicked OK, then I tried to record again and when I clicked for the second time everything was fine.
It seems the solution is try twice, one after one.

Finding this Post took some time but I thought it was me talking when I read it. I was having the exact same issue. I have a G3 I've been upgrading like mad, including a Sonnet G4-500 CPU a Maxtor 60gb & 80gb HDs 1gb of RAM a new LaCie Firewire800 PCI card Graphics card etc. the latest was installing Panther 10.3.9 on the new 80gb HD and also swapping out the old CD-ROM and replacing with the (Apple standard) Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-110D combo drive in it's place. got everything up and booted and poof! no burning. Toast worked read/write no problem. iTunes could read and import no problem, but wouldn't burn a CD.
Downloaded "PatchBurn 3.1.3" installed, re-booted and all is OK in burner land again :>)
I wanted to just post my additional thanks to the lead to Patchburner, and I'm going to donate to the cause. It's worth a $20 donation just for my joy of not throwing this computer out the window!!

Cannot burn CD after installing Itunes

I recently isntalled Itunes and cannot now burn CD's outside of Itunes. Whenever I click on the CD-RW drive i get the error message "incorrect fucntion". There is also now a tab missing from the properties of the drive. I can update the registry setting for this drive to let windows know it is a writebale drive (change the type from a 3 to a 2) and that gives me back the missing tab but then Itunes complains that it needs to be reinstalled because the CD settings have changed. When Itunes gets re-installed the drive type goes back to a 3 from the 2 and I can no longer write CD's using the drive! A work colleague of mine appears to have the same issue (we have the same laptop type and are running the same version of windows). Has anyone else experienced this issue?

do you have an old version of Easy CD Creator on your PC? usually that symptom is associated with that. see:
"Incorrect function" error message when you access the CD-ROM drive, the DVD-ROM drive, or the CD-RW drive
if you don't currently have one of those versions of Easy CD Creator on the PC, have you ever had oneinstalled on the PC? if so, leftover device filter entries in your Registry may be conflicting with the itunes device filters, causing the issue. if that's what is going, the techniques from the following document may be of some help:

Is anyone else having trouble burning CDs after installing Snow Leopard?

I received Snow Leopard plus iLife and iWork for Christmas and installed it on Wednesday. I burned two playlists to four CDs on iTunes Tuesday but today when I tried to do the same things using the exact same discs and the following message popped up on iTunes: "Disc burner or software not found." This is obviously happening because of Snow Leopard or the new iLife and iWork I installed. Any thoughts? How can I fix this? Do I need to install something else to be able to burn discs again? I need help really fast because I need these CDs right away. Thanks.

No to the subject question. However, I've only burned boot discs for DiskWarrior and a Snow Leopard install disc, not music ones. Launch System Profiler in Utilities and select Disc Burning under Hardware. On my iMac it reports:

You should see something similar or your burner's gone south and that's a hardware issue.

iPods don't look for the library. iTunes does.
I recently moved my itunes music folder
Don't move your music folder.
Let iTunes do it.
Point iTunes prefs to the location where you wan tit.
Then go to menu Advanced -> *Consolidate library*.
This will copy the iTunes music folder to the location in iTunes prefs.

Cannot Install OS 9 After Installing Tiger ???

I've recently upgraded from a Beige G3 MT to a G4 Digital Audio. When I received the G4, it had OS 9.2 on it. Having larger (newer drives) in my G3, I swapped the 30GB in the G4 for 200 & 80GB drives that I had in the G3. Both drives are on a ATA/133 PCI card. I installed Tiger on the larger drive and the machine has been running fine since. The original CDRW has also been replaced with a Pioneer 107D
However, I now need to put 9.2 on the machine but no matter what I try, I cannot get it to boot up with my OS 9 install disc. I've tried the "C" method, the Startup Disc method and "Option" method. When holding the option key, it only shows the drive that has Tiger but not the OS 9 CD.
What am I missing?

one (white label, gold 9), or a model-specific one?
It's the retail version (white label, gold 9), one that I've had through my last 3 or 4 machines.

Cannot burn CDs. "Disk recording not found."

I updated itunes and now it will not burn CDs for me. I have no other software that would interfere with this. I attempted to uninstall and install GEARS drivers after some google searchs and it did nothing. Might not have done that right though. It says I have no drivers when i run diagnostics. Any help would be appriciated.

That is the key statement out of the whole error message you posted.
It looks like it's having trouble loading the CD/DVD drives. Try doing a repair install as it notes there, and also check to see what other burning software you have installed on your system as some of it can conflict with iTunes. You may need to uninstall the other CD Burning software.

LOST EVERYTHING!!!! after installing Tiger

OK, there's the situation. I had Tiger installed on my iMac. I then aquired Leopard from someone and installed that. After the installation on Leopard, the computer ran very slow. I the re-installed Tiger and lost everything So, is there hope...?

I assume that to reinstall Tiger you did an Erase and Install. If so then you lost everything unless you have backups. If you don't have backups, then you should plan for them in the future to avoid this happening again.
Basic Backup
Get an external Firewire drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
1. Retrospect Desktop (Commercial - not yet universal binary)
2. Synchronize! Pro X (Commercial)
3. Synk (Backup, Standard, or Pro)
4. Deja Vu (Shareware)
5. Carbon Copy Cloner (Donationware)
6. SuperDuper! (Commercial)
7. Intego Personal Backup (Commercial)
8. Data Backup (Commercial)
The following utilities can also be used for backup, but cannot create bootable clones:
1. Backup (requires a .Mac account with Apple both to get the software and to use it.)
2. Toast
3. Impression
4. arRSync
Apple's Backup is a full backup tool capable of also backing up across multiple media such as CD/DVD. However, it cannot create bootable backups. It is primarily an "archiving" utility as are the other two.
Impression and Toast are disk image based backups, only. Particularly useful if you need to backup to CD/DVD across multiple media.

Although you can buy a complete FireWire drive system, you can also put one together if you are so inclined. It's relatively easy and only requires a Phillips head screwdriver (typically.) You can purchase hard drives separately. This gives you an opportunity to shop for the best prices on a hard drive of your choice. Reliable brands include Seagate, Hitachi, Western Digital, Toshiba, and Fujitsu. You can find reviews and benchmarks on many drives at Storage Review.
Enclosures for FireWire and USB are readily available. You can find only FireWire enclosures, only USB enclosures, and enclosures that feature multiple ports. I would stress getting enclosures that use the Oxford chipsets (911, 921, 922, for example.) You can find enclosures at places such as;

All you need do is remove a case cover, mount the hard drive in the enclosure and connect the cables, then re-attach the case cover. Usually the only tool required is a small or medium Phillips screwdriver.
