Cannot Burn CDs Since I Transfered Itunes to an External Dirve

Hello
I need help with Itunes, Itunes does not open. Also I cannot burn Cds since I transfered Itunes to external dirve.
Please help.
Steve

iPods don't look for the library. iTunes does.
I recently moved my itunes music folder
Don't move your music folder.
Let iTunes do it.
Point iTunes prefs to the location where you wan tit.
Then go to menu Advanced -> *Consolidate library*.
This will copy the iTunes music folder to the location in iTunes prefs.

  • Cannot burn CDs or back up iTunes--error #4450

I can't burn CDs or back up iTunes. I keep getting error message 4450 (unspecified error). Does anyone know how to fix this? It sounds like a different problem than the one discussed in the earlier thread.

Same thing here. I was able to burn CDs on Saturday, but not today for some reason. Error 4450. However, I can play the same CD I just tried to burn through Windows Media Player. But iTunes won't recognize the disk when I try to reload it. Looks like Apple really screwed everyone who has a PC on this most recent update. Hmmmm...perhaps that's their way of 'encouraging' people to buy Mac. Maybe Steve Jobs should spend less time hanging out with Bono and more time developing software that actually works.

Finding this Post took some time but I thought it was me talking when I read it. I was having the exact same issue. I have a G3 I've been upgrading like mad, including a Sonnet G4-500 CPU a Maxtor 60gb & 80gb HDs 1gb of RAM a new LaCie Firewire800 PCI card Graphics card etc. the latest was installing Panther 10.3.9 on the new 80gb HD and also swapping out the old CD-ROM and replacing with the (Apple standard) Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-110D combo drive in it's place. got everything up and booted and poof! no burning. Toast worked read/write no problem. iTunes could read and import no problem, but wouldn't burn a CD.
Downloaded "PatchBurn 3.1.3" installed, re-booted and all is OK in burner land again :>)
I wanted to just post my additional thanks to the lead to Patchburner, and I'm going to donate to the cause. It's worth a $20 donation just for my joy of not throwing this computer out the window!!

  • Have tried everything in forum and cant burn cds or import them. itunes says to reinstall but doesn't fix problem.

Hi.  I have had a message each time I open Itunes. It has varied but includes the following:
Itunes was not properly installed. If you wish to import or burn cds you must reinstall itunes.
Itunes helper not installed correctly - Error 7

I went through tons of steps that I found online including all of the steps to Fix Gear Drivers.  I did the registery steps, I updated my CD & DVD drivers, I uninstalled and reinstalled Itunes, Bonjour, Quicktime and all else in the long list.
Nothing has helped.  What else can be done?  The message has changed as I have done all of the self-fix steps but it won't let me burn disks still and still get errors.
Help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks,
FYI, the step that has me add back Upperfilters causes Itunes to no longer recognize the drives so I can't do this step.  I have tried everything listed.

I cross posted also but this forum looks better.
I've had the same problem. I notice that my Superdrive justs looks at the disc for a bit and then spits it out.
When I boot from my clone of my 10.4.10 setup, I can mount and burn a CD-R in iTunes, although the names of the tracks and disc are screwed up (while the actual data is correct).
But in 10.4.11 and Leopard (also testing that on an external drive) the blank disc won't mount at all.

  • Cannot burn Audio CDs (only Data CDs) since upgrade to Itunes 7

I'm having a problem and it is very frustrating. Worked fine with Ver. 6 but you had to download to ver. 7 before you could purchase any new music so I did. Big mistake! My problem is burning CDs. I can only burn "Data CDs." I went to "Edit" and then to "preferences" then to "Advanced" and then to "Burning" -At that point you have a choice to choose Audio CD burning or Data CD burning. I will not stay on Audio CD burning - keeps defaulting to Data CD burning and there is no "save" button or anything to stop it from happening. When it burns from the data cd it the cd will only play in my computer - not in my car or other player. Would you know how to correct this???? to stop the default? My ipod is fine. I hope Apple takes care of this soon.

  • I noticed that iTunes is making all my imported music m4a, instead of MP3, now I cannot burn cds.  Can you change m4a's to MP3's?

I noticed that iTunes is changing all my music I import into m4a, instead of MP3.  Now I cannot burn MP3 cds.  Is there anyway to change the m4a into MP3 so I can burn cds & listen to the cds in my car?  The M4a do not play in the car.

  • I cannot burn cds with itunes

i cant burn my music in itunes a error always appears

    Hi Micko1965,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities!
What alert message do you see when you try to burn the CD? The article below is a good place to start, it provides general tips and links to other specific troubleshooting articles.
Can't burn a CD in iTunes for Windows
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1436
Can't burn a CD in iTunes for Windows
    Symptoms
Find out what to do if you can't burn an audio CD using iTunes for Windows. Sometimes an audio disc may not burn as expected. Here are some things to check.
    Resolution
    Update iTunes
Download and install the latest version of iTunes for Windows.
    Check for unauthorized songs
iTunes will stop burning a disc if you purchased one or more of the songs in a playlist from the iTunes Store and the songs aren't authorized to play on your computer. This message should appear: "Some of the files can not be burned to an audio CD. Do you still want to burn the remainder of this playlist? For more information on why some files can not be burned, click below."
To find out which songs aren't authorized, play each song in the playlist. Songs that play are authorized. Songs that don't play aren't authorized. You'll be asked to authorize any unauthorized songs.
Make sure your playlist will fit on a single CD
If there are too many songs in a playlist to fit on a single CD, iTunes should ask if you want to burn multiple discs or cancel the burn. This message should appear: "The songs in this playlist will not fit on one Audio CD. Do you want to create multiple Audio CDs with this playlist split across them? This will require more than one blank CD to complete."
If you click the Audio CDs button, the burn will continue and you'll be asked to insert blank CDs until the playlist is completely burned. If you click cancel, the burn will be canceled.
To make the playlist shorter so that it will fit on a single CD, select a song to remove from the playlist and chooseEdit > Clear. Repeat this step until the duration of the playlist is between 60 and 80 minutes. The duration appears at the top of the playlist window. Most CD-R discs can hold 60 to 80 minutes of music.
Check how many times you've burned the playlist
An unchanged playlist that contains songs purchased from the iTunes Store can be burned no more than seven times.

  • Cannot burn or copy CD in iTunes 8~ tried everything!

    Hello,
I hope someone can help, I'm at my wits end!
Since updating to iTunes 8 I haven't been able to burn or copy a CD on iTunes or Roxio. I followed the directions from Warlock in this thread
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8345138#8345138
too have had the same problem and the problem is the result of the "UpperFilter" having lost or broken its link to the Gear CD / DVD driver that Itunes install. The fix I used is not easy but if you take your time you should have no problem. 1. Remove all iTune and related componets. Here is the Apple support site http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925?viewlocale=en_US. You can try to download and reinstall iTunes at this time but when I tried it still had the same error so I continued with the following: WARNING the gear driver is used by some other programs, review the Gear site to see if any other program you have could be affected. You may need to reinstall the affected programs. 2. Then manually uninstall the Gear's driver and this is the Gear site http://www.gearsoftware.com/wiki/index.php?title=DRIVERS:Windows_-_Updating%2C_removing%2C_64_bit_versions%2C_etc#Manual_Removal_.E2.80.9 332-bit. 3. Download and install itunes. iTunes will reinstall the gear driver.
After reinstalling iTunes I get a message "iTunes Setup Assistant-
iTunes was not properly installed. If you wish to import or burn CDs. you need to reinstall iTunes." I did uninstall and then reinstall and got the same message.
Now what? Anybody got any ideas? My computer has Windows XP.
    TIA

I have finally been able to nail this problem down on this particular 32bit XP system, and while it may not be the correct solution for everybody I'm going to tack it onto the end of this thread in the hope that it might save some time for anyone Googling the problem.
I have wasted literally days on this problem with multiple uninstall, install, reinstall cycles of iTunes, Gear drivers, Gear driver removers, QuickTime and other assorted Apple sundries. I have made more Registry edits than I can count. All to no avail.
The basic problem, at least on this machine, was that the Gear drivers simply refused to install onto the system regardless of whether they were coming from the iTunes installer or the stand-alone Gear installer. I could see the installer reporting the attempt to install, and I could check the installer logs and see the same thing, but upon rebooting the drivers just would not be there. No entries in the Registry, and no .sys or .dll files in System32.
In the end the following worked for me, so here it is for reference. It may be possible to miss out some of these steps but I'm not going back to check!
*1. Uninstall EVERYTHING Apple related; iTunes, QuickTime, iPod drivers, Bonjour, the lot. Reboot between each removal if necessary.*
*2. Uninstall the Gear driver installer if used.*
    *3. Reboot*
*4. Download and run the latest iTunes installer. When the installer has finished DO NOT yet click on the OK or reboot button. Leave the installer window(s) open.*
*5. Navigate to C:\Documents And Settings\All Users\Application Data and look for an alphanumerically named folder containing an 'x86' subfolder. Mine was called {3276BE95AF08_429F_A64FCA64CB79BCF6} but it might change from system to system.*
*6. Copy this folder to the Desktop.*
*7. Complete the iTunes installer operations. If no reboot is required, uncheck the box to run iTunes on completion.*
    *8. Reboot.*
*9. Open the copied folder on the Desktop, open the x86 sub-folder, right-click the GearAspiWDM.inf file and choose Install.*
    *10. Reboot.*
*11. Run iTunes and hope that the drivers have installed correctly.*
As I said, there's no guarantee this will work for anybody else but it worked for me and I had tried just about every "solution" as posted in the various forums. On the surface it looks to have been a simple case of the installer copying the Gear install files to the All Users subfolder, but then not actually running the installer.
I really do hope this information helps someone else avoid the days of frustration I have suffered with this issue.

  • Cannot Burn or import music from itunes

every time i open itunes i get a pop up that tells me that i must reinstall itunes before i will be able to burn or import music.
i have gone round and round with tech support trying to figure out why i can no longer burn discs. i was told that my internal cd/dvd drive must have gone bad and that i needed a new one. i went and purchased one, an external drive, and STILL CANNOT BURN OR IMPORT MUSIC! I can copy CDs and DVD from my internal drive so i now know that my drive is not bad and that the issue is not with my computer it is with itunes. my question is how do i get itunes to recognize that i do infact have a working drive? and if i cannot burn music from itunes how can i get it somewhere else on my computer so i can?
i am SO fed up with itunes and am about to just give up on it completely!
    please help! ANYONE!!!

Could you post your diagnostics for us please?
In iTunes, go "Help > Run Diagnostics". Uncheck the boxes other than DVD/CD tests, as per the following screenshot:
    ... and click "Next".
When you get through to the final screen:
... click the "Copy to Clipboard" button and paste the diagnostics into a reply here. (Use your Ctrl-V keyboard shortcut to paste.)

I am able however to import with no problems.

  • Cannot burn CDs-Calibration Error

I get this error when trying to burn CDs from Itunes, "The device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media." Any suggestions? Is it broken?
    Thanks
    Bill

I have been looking around for an answer for you as well, I did find this post on another board, it may be of some help.
"If you're having trouble burning a CD or DVD, check the following:
Make sure you're trying to burn a CD or DVD from a playlist (a list of songs) that you've created in the iTunes Source list. You can't burn a disc directly from your library, from the Radio, from a shared playlist, or from a playlist that's on your iPod. For more information about creating playlists or a CD, click "Tell me more."
If you're not seeing the songs you expect on a CD or DVD you've burned, or if nothing happens when you click the Burn Disc button, make sure the selected playlist includes the songs you want, and that the songs are checked. Only checked songs are burned to the CD or DVD.
If you want to create an audio CD, make sure you have an Apple CD-RW drive or SuperDrive. Some third-party CD-RW drives may also work with iTunes. To see if iTunes works with an external drive, choose iTunes > Preferences, then click the Burning button. If your drive is listed, it will work with iTunes.
Make sure you've chosen the correct disc format for the files you're trying to burn to your CD or DVD. To create an audio CD, you need to choose Audio CD in the Burning pane of iTunes Preferences. To create a CD with any type of audio file that iTunes supports (MP3, AAC, AIFF, and so on), you need to choose "Data CD or DVD" in the Burning pane of iTunes Preferences. For more information, click "Tell me more."
If your playlist includes songs that were purchased from the iTunes Music Store, you can only burn seven copies of the playlist to an audio CD. You may have exceeded the number of times you can burn this playlist.
If your playlist includes songs that were purchased from the iTunes Music Store that have not been authorized to play on this computer, CD burning stops. To authorize this computer to play the music purchases, double-click the purchased song (where CD burning stopped) and enter the ID and password for the account with which the song was purchased. If you've already authorized five other computers to play the song, you won't be able to play it on this computer until you deauthorize one of the five already authorized computers. For more information about authorization and deauthorization, click "Tell me more."
If your computer or monitor goes to sleep while you're burning a CD, you might encounter problems with the disc or with iTunes. To keep your system from going to sleep when burning CDs, increase the sleep timing settings in the Energy Saver pane of System Preferences. For more information, search for "saving energy" in Mac Help.
If you've made a CD and it seems to stutter when played back in your external CD-RW drive, try playing it in your internal CD drive or in a stereo system. Some external drives may not play CDs properly.
If your CD burn is unsuccessful and your external drive becomes unresponsive, turn its power off and on to reset the drive.
If you can't eject a blank CD after you've inserted it, click the Eject button in iTunes.
If the playlist you're trying to burn to a CD or DVD includes AAC files, make sure you don't have MP3 CD selected in the Burning pane of iTunes Preferences. You can only burn a playlist that contains AAC files using the Audio CD or Data CD format.

  • Registry settings for burning CDs/DVDs missing when Itunes installed

I have recently had to reinstall ITunes following a computer crash. I am unable to burn to CD - when I start up ITunes I am told that the "registry settings are missing" and am told to reinstall, which I have done without success. I have not loaded any other CD/DVD burning software, and can burn CDs using other programmes. Any ideas? Thank you.

I'd start with the following document, with one modification. At step 12 after typing GEARAspiWDM press the Enter/Return key once prior to clicking OK. (Pressing Return adds a carriage return in the field and is important.)
