Cannot burn disk of slideshow

I have made slideshows with audio tract successfully in Aperture, exported to iTunes, MobileMe Gallery and to desktop.
Toast has been unable to burn the slideshow to disk.
I noted now that the exported file to desktop is a "protected MPEG-4 movie".  Does that mean this is a file which can only be burned and used in Apple proprietary products?  I have made disks before but they may have been Quicktime files.
I'm lost, confused about that "protected" statement in Info.

Great idea but I had already done that and the "protected" was still there.
So I exported the file again from Aperture as "Custom" to the desktop and I got a QuickTime movie (no mention of "protected"!
Previously, I had exported as AppleTV, iPad (720p) (plus iTunes) and that gets me the "protected" file!
(so I got to go back and export a lot of slideshows as Custom <sigh>)
Thank you for help!

  • Unknown Error 4300, cannot burn disk in iTunes

    Good morning,
I am having the problem of not being able to burn a disc in iTunes. I am getting the message of unknown error (4300). It acts like it's burning then I get that message.
I have did set the properties in my computer to burn audio disk and also unchecked includ cd text in iTunes in the burn options as suggested on another thread.
    Any other suggestions?
    TIA,

    Hey there,
I am also having the same problem. I recently upgraded my system from an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 3800+ and Asus A8N-E motherboard to an Intel Core-Duo E8400 and Asus P5Q motherboard. The DVD drive, an LG GSA 4167b, is the same. iTunes itself runs much smoother now, but for some reason will not burn CDs (unknown error 4300). This is curious, as I have burned many CDs with this drive using iTunes on my old system. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling as well as removing and old version (4) of a Nero Suite I had kicking around. I cannot seem to find a list of iTunes error codes anywhere and there does not seem to be any real answers to this error code. Yes, the drive is plugged in properly (sATA)
    thanks very much!

  • Reading lots of forums but still cannot burn disks

    Hello,
I have tried numerous ways to burn a dvd disk, but I cannot seem to be able to.
I have tried with toast, I'mtoo DVD and Disk utility.
I have repaired disk permissions, updated, and currently working with 10.5.4. Even tried the gimmick of changing the languages in system preferences.
    I can read DVD's still.
The blank DVD's I am using worked perfectly a couple of weeks ago.
The other thing I have noticed, is when I place a blank disk in the drive, nothing comes up on my desk top, although disks with content are seen on my desk top.
When attempting to burn from the disk utility, the error message is "the device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media".
When attempting to burn from toast 9.0.1, I get the error message "Sense key = medium error Sense code = 0x73, 0x03" The lead in process does not get to start either.
I currently have 12 GB spare on my HD.
    My specs are listed below.

  • Cannot burn DVD+R DL disks.

The problem seemed to start around when I installed Leopard, maybe that's just a coincidence. At first some of the DVD DLs burned, but most would skip or not verify or have some small problem, and some of them would just fail. Now it's impossible to burn any at all without it failing. Since the problem gradually seemed to have gotten worse it may also be dust. I bought compressed air and blew inside, didn't work. Opened up the Mac Pro and took out the DVD drive, thoroughly blew inside, it didn't work. Maybe a laser cleaning disk from Walmart might help or something, but I'm still not sure that's the problem.
I have tried Memorex brand AND Verbatim 2.4x brands, both fail. Both these brands worked in the past, I used Verbatim often. I usually burn with Toast. I had Toast 8 and I upgraded to 9, still got the same errors. The Toast error is the following:
    The drive reported an error:
    Sense Key = MEDIUM ERROR
    Sense Code = 0x0c
    WRITE ERROR
    then:
    The drive reported an error:
    Sense Key = ILLEGAL REQUEST
    Sense Code = 0x72, 0x03
SESSION FIXATION ERROR - INCOMPLETELY TRACK IN SESSION
After Toast clearly didn't work I tried Disk Utility, which has given me the following error twice:
"Unable to burn '<disk title>'. (The burn failed because of a medium write error.)"
And also an error about being unable to calibrate the laser heat or something.
The last time I burned a CD or DVD they were fine, DVD+R DLs are the only problem. From what I see this may be a common problem among a few people? Are there any solutions? Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Hi all,
I just discovered my SuperDrive (OPTIARC DVD RW AD-7170A) in the Mac Pro (Early 2008) didn't want to play ball with my Verbatim 8x DVD + R DL either, put I popped it into my second drive (LITE-ON DVDRW LH-20A1H*) which worked fine.
Unless you're using that space for an extra hard-drive I really recommend pushing in another good drive for $30 in there to get faster burn times, burn two discs at the same time and get LightScribe support

  • Problem with iDVD - cannot burn DVD.

Problem with iDVD - cannot burn DVD.
Self has a MacBook Pro, which al new software.
My problem is, when my burn a slideshow, prop process ever before burning.
Box show: Multiflexing and burning: write Lead-in, then the process stops and ejects the disc.
I have burn a Movie test – no problems.
    Self use Verbatim DVD-R
Who can help - what should I do?

How did you create the slideshow and get it in iDVD?
As a general comment try following this workflow to separate the encoding and burning processes:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the  File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • IDVD - Burning Disk : cont'.

After 7 days of torment, I continually have problems with making, burning, a DVD slideshow.  Have always thought Mac was THE user friendly machine, but finding this not the case.  Finally thru iDVD help and Apples Discussions (OT) guidance have "created a new slideshow program" in iDVD from iPhoto.  Reset aspect to 4:3 as directed, setburn speed to 4x, ran a successful review....all well and ready?  Nope !!!...  window warning during burn...........""Error during rendering/encoding,... burning process cancelled."       Ejected, and reviewed program..looks fine. Reburn: warning keeps appearing every time .    What now ???????????????????????   Is that disk corrupted ?????   What do I need to correct??????????    Do I need to start a new program from the beginning?  The only two things I can think of is the disk was formated on a DVD player prior to installing on Mac, but the initial burn, altho blurry on TV, was successful.  Now nothing......  Using a -RW disk, ‘iDVD help says -RW is okay.  Maybe not best as OT says tho, but should burn...  ??
    what now?

Memorex are not highly regarded round here - most of us use Verbatim DVD-R.
There are many ways to produce slide shows using iPhoto, iMovie or iDVD and some limit the number of photos you can use (iDVD has a 99 chapter (slide) limitation).
If what you want is what I want, namely to be able to use high resolution photos (even 300 dpi tiff files), to pan and zoom individual photos, use a variety of transitions, to add and edit music or commentary, place text exactly where you want it, and to end up with a DVD that looks good on both your Mac and a TV - in other words end up with and end result that does not look like an old fashioned slide show from a projector - you may be interested in how I do it. You don't have to do it my way, but the following may be food for thought!
Firstly you need proper software to assemble the photos, decide on the duration of each, the transitions you want to use, and how to pan and zoom individual photos where required, and add proper titles. For this I use Photo to Movie. You can read about what it can do on their website:
    http://www.lqgraphics.com/software/phototomovie.php
(Other users here use the alternative FotoMagico:  http://www.boinx.com/fotomagico/homevspro/ which you may prefer - I have no experience with it.)
Neither of these are freeware, but are worth the investment if you are going to do a lot of slide shows. Read about them in detail, then decide which one you feel is best suited to your needs.
Once you have timed and arranged and manipulated the photos to your liking in Photo to Movie, it exports the file to iMovie  as a DV stream. You can add music in Photo to Movie, but I prefer doing this in iMovie where it is easier to edit. You can now further edit the slide show in iMovie just as you would a movie, including adding other video clips, then send it to iDVD 7, or Toast,  for burning.
You will be pleasantly surprised at how professional the results can be!
To simply create a slide show in iDVD 7 onwards from images in iPhoto or stored in other places on your hard disk or a connected server, look here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1089

  • IDVD burned disk does not start at main menu

The IDVD burned disk starts randomly in the middle of the disk. Cannot access the main menu. I started with an IMovie with chapter headings, videos and pictures. Then shared it with IDVD, created themes, music, changed the headers, etc. Burned the disk using the File Burn DVD command. The disk takes over 1 1/2 hours (IMovie orginal is 15 minutes) to burn.

Hello to all of you first-timers here!
    Welcome to the discussions.
First, are you using iMovie 9?
Did you set chapter markers in iMovie? Did you follow the Chaper Marker Rules?
RULES: No marker at the beginning of your movie, no markers within 2 seconds of the beginning or end of the movie, and no markers on or within 2 seconds of your movie.
Next, did you put your movie in iDVD and then go make any changes to it? Sometimes that causes the chapters to default to the same spot in the movie. The only solution is to recreate the iDVD project.
You should first try deleting iDVD's preference file. You can find this by closing iDVD, going to your Home file (YourUserName)/Library/Preferences/com.apple.idvd.plist
Drag this plist file to the trash. iDVD will create a new one when you relaunch it.
    Reopen iDVD.
Try creating the disk image file again or burning a disk again.
If that results in the same problem, create a new iDVD project. Then, drag in the iMovie project from the Media/Movies pane in iDVD instead of sharing it from iDVD.
Post back if that does not resolve the issue.
