Cannot burn dvd in ilife 6

I recently upgraded to ilife 6 and am encountering two problems.
1. In the edit menu of imovie it will not allow me to add any of the edits because the clips need to be 3:49:15 long.
2. When burning a dvd in Idvd it will go through the whole process of doing everything required up until the final burn stage and then it says that there is an error in it but not what the error is.
Could these problems occur because I am running Ilife 06 with an older version of OSX

Hello jendougmac,
1. Do you mean adding transitions? If so you'll need to shorten the transitions using the slider underneath the preview window.
2. Could these problems occur because I am running Ilife 06 with an older version of OSX
That's possible. I'm actually surprised that you could install it. See the iLife system requirements:

  • Power Mac G5 Dual 2.5 GHz running 10.5.8 cannot burn DVD+R

    Hello all-
I have a Power Mac G5 Dual 2.5 GHz running 10.5.8 and I cannot burn DVD+R. Does that make sense?
If I insert a DVD+R into the drive, it just spits it back out. I've tried several discs so it's not a faulty DVD.
    Help.
    Thank you.

I've tried several discs so it's not a faulty DVD
I trust that is several different brands, not several different discs from the same spindle/pack?
    Media varies.
    http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm
If you haven't tried a different brand, try a Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden.
You might also try burning in a new user account to rule out account software troubles.

  • Problem with iDVD - cannot burn DVD.

Problem with iDVD - cannot burn DVD.
Self has a MacBook Pro, which al new software.
My problem is, when my burn a slideshow, prop process ever before burning.
Box show: Multiflexing and burning: write Lead-in, then the process stops and ejects the disc.
I have burn a Movie test – no problems.
    Self use Verbatim DVD-R
Who can help - what should I do?

How did you create the slideshow and get it in iDVD?
As a general comment try following this workflow to separate the encoding and burning processes:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the  File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • Cannot burn dvd without theme

I cannot do what would seem to be the simplest step in imovie and idvd. I have created my customize movie in imovie (no canned themes or audio) and when I go to the shre menu and choose idvd so I can burn my movie, I cannot burn a dvd without first choosing a theme. I don't need a theme...I wnat my movie just the way it is. Please help. This is so frustrating.

  • Suddenly I cannot burn DVD on my Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-112D

Hi, bought 100 DVD's of a brand I always used and suddenly I cannot burn these DVD's. Tried it with the Mac utility, Disk utility and Roxio Toast Titanium 10. No success. These DVD's do burn on myMacBook Pro running under the same MacOSX 10.6.8.
Re-installed the OS, ran Applejack to repair any errors, but no success. Phoned Mac in Holland, no idea. What could be the cause and how do I repair it. I have 2 SuperDrives and both exhibit the same behaviour. Pioneer has several Firmupdates but only for PC, not for Mac.
    Regards,
    arnold

Later (higher speed) DVD-Rs can require the latest firmware update in older drives to burn successfully.   I believe the DVR-112D is up to v.1.28: look here:
    http://www.pioneer.eu/uk/support/software/tax/950/index.html
Even if there's only a "PC" updater, you still need to do the update.  Easiest way - temporarily install the drive in an external USB case, and connect it to a PC, and run the update from there. A pain, but necessary.

  • Cannot burn DVD (Domain users)

Am experiencing a problem in my employer's network with regards to burning DVDs from Final Cut Pro X.
When we click Share > DVD and hit go, the program starts "Processing", and once this bar fills up, it disappears without burning. The disc drive does not even spin up. I can tell why this is, becuase the Sharing Center window does not open.
This only affects our domain users - logging on as a domain admin or a local admin on the same mac works fine and sharing centre will open. When logged on as a domain USER, the button to open sharing center isnt even present, its just entirely missing.
We have to use domain user accounts, and right now they cannot burn from FCPX!! Does anyone know a solution for this one? I can only think its some kind of permission issue, but I can't think where to look to try anything.

Why not simply "burning to HD" and then use an external tool (i.e. Toast) to burn the actual DVD? I always write to HD first for a final quality check.

  • Satellite L300D cannot burn DVDs

I have Satellite L300D and Ii have had about a year but I never tried burning DVDs. Now I can burn and read CDs perfectly and read DVDs but when it comes to burning DVDs it have problems as Toshibas programme that came with laptop does not work to burn DVDs and other various programs like Nero and imgburn do not work. I am always getting write error and other things. HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T50N ata device
Can anyone help me please have tried everything restoring my factory settings to when I first bought the laptop as new and still no joy desperately need help.
    Any answers lol ?

Lot of people have problem installing WXP on new notebook because of missing SATA driver. Without this driver HDD will not be recognized properly and WXP installation cannot start because of missing HDD.
To avoid this SATA settings in BIOS can be changed from AHCI to compatibility. This is OK but HDD will not run on default speed and with full performance. So it is better to install WXP with SATA driver and AHCI settings.
Now when the WXP is installed you cannot change this BIOS settings. it will probably end with blue screen at start up. So if you want to have well working WXP on your notebook you must install WXP again (AHCI mode in BIOS).
In this forum you can find hundreds of threads with good explanation how to do this.
If this will help with DVD I don't know but I don't see any reason why you should not be able to use optical disc drive for burning DVDs.
I have Satellite A300 with WXP Sp3 and NERO. It burns all empty medias.

  • Satellite Pro L875: Cannot burn DVD in Recovery Media Creator and Win 8

    I have a Satellite Pro L875 with Blu-ray Burner.
I tried to create DVD Recovery disc, the burning process stopped and had error prompt asked me to check if the disc was damaged or scratched. After the burning process, the DVD was not blank and had some data written on it.
I tried to burn data disc in windows 8. the burner did not start. I only able to add files to the drive.
I play Blu-ray movies and dvd movies, the blu ray drive was fine.
I found information about the appropriate dvd disc speed that matched the burner speed.
How do I know what speed the burner support?
How to burn DVD or Blu-Ray in windows 8? ( I have looked at Microsoft forum but the solution did not work.)
It would be great if anyone answer and make the drive burn some discs.

At first it will be interesting to see why you cannot create recovery discs.
Have you used empty DVD-R media? If not please use it and buy some high quality product like Verbatim or TDK.
Is there option to create recovery USB stick?
Burning under Win8? Have you tried to use some burning applications like NERO?

  • Premier Elements 12 Cannot burn DVD Get error message of internal software failure

Cannot butn DVD with Premier Elements 12 Get error message of internal software failure.

    Great news JMD103.
There should be a big red pop-up, when one adds a Stop Marker to the end of the Timeline, saying "Do NOT do that!" That Stop Marker will almost always yield a failed Project output to DVD.
    Good luck, and happy editing,

  • New mac mini - cannot burn dvd

I have recently purchased a mac mini. I already had an external dvd burner, but I can't burn dvd projects from iMovie since no idvd is on the mac. HELP!

Tbirdvet, thanks for the suggestion. That is what I planned to do today unless someone can suggest another idea. I can always use a usb extended Mac keyboard anyway. And a mouse is certainly cheap enough.

  • Cannot burn DVD...

Hi, for the last several weeks, my iMac G5 (iSight) does not burn DVDs. I did a little research and found iMac is very picky with DVD media. Recently I quit using Toast and changed to us Finder to burn DVD. Then an error code 536870198 appeared and could not burn. Similar media error happened when I was using Toast. It showed error 3-5 minutes after clicking 'burn' icon. I used optical drive cleaner, made sure the blank DVDs were without dirt or dust. I even tried different brands of blank DVDs - no success. Tried Staple brand blank DVDs (at the beginning, no problem), Maxell blank disk (no problem in the past), Sony... name a few, none works now. I do not know what else I should do. If someone knows how to solve this problem, I will appreciate your advise. I've thrown away so many DVDs because of this...

You need to update from Toast 6.0 to 6.1.1. The update is a free download from the Roxio site. 6.0 had the buffer underrun problem. In later versions you can turn on buffer underrun prevention in the Recorder Settings window (I think it is on by default).
Meanwhile, as you found the missing AUDIO_TS folder isn't necessary. It's empty on DVDs anyway. When you tried burning using Apple's disc-burning tools the disc was formatted as HFS+ & ISO 9660 rather than as UDF. That's why it wouldn't play in a DVD player. To use Disk Utility to burn your DVD you must first download and use DVDImager to make a UDF disc image.
    But I prefer Toast.
If you want to just copy the existing DVD the easiest thing to do is choose the Toast Copy window, select the DVD and click the burn button. Another option is, instead of clicking the burn button, choose Save as Disc Image from the Toast File menu. When the disc image is finished, select it with the Image File setting in the Toast Copy window and click the burn button.
If you have a VIDEO_TS folder on your hard drive you can use Toast 6.0.7 and above's DVD video from VIDEO_TS option in the Toast Video window.

  • MacBook Pro Cannot Burn DVDs

Both my MacBook Pro and my iMac will not burn DVDs.  They will burn CDs but not DVDs.
They used to but not anymore.
I even tried a Aplle Branded DVD and had no luck.  Also TDK and Fuji Film.  Alll of these disks worked before I have half empty 100 packs to prove it.
I believe there is an issue of some sort of software or firmware upgrade that made this happen but I am not interested and reinstalling an old version of OSX to get the optical drives to work properly.
Has Apple acknowledged and offered a fix for this yet?
If I don'y find a solution here there's going to be some warm fuzzy words exchanged at the "Genius" bar this evening.
Yes I blew out both drives with compressed air and quite frankly I don't feel I should have to buy a large sellection of different brands of DVDs to find one that might work.
    Thanks in advance

2.16 Intel Core Duo 17" mac Book Pro OS X Ver 10.6.6

The Blank discs are fine.  I am very meticulous.  I've also zapped my Pram and this also makes no difference.
I spoke to a tech at Apple this AM and he agreed that there is a software problem with the OS and he offered no solution.
The drive will recod CDRs however.
I think Apple wrote my laptop out of the OS and they don't care.
    Love you to Apple.
8 Macs and close to $24,000 invested and this is the love I feel.

  • I cannot burn DVDs in either iDVD or iMovie.

The DVD ejects before the process ends, and is blank.
I have an iMac running Lion. Significantly, nothing at akll comes up about disc burning in the 'About My Mac' utility.

Hi again Frank - I am happy to report that I solved the problem and managed to burn DVDs that I can view in my DVD player.
The solution required a certain amount of lateral thought, as follows
    (dramatic pause)
    - if at first you can't burn DVDs on your own iMac, use your wife's iMac instead.
Mrs Cromercrox1 has an iMac that's a more recent model than mine, so I decided to give it a go (I asked her first, of course.) So I exported the m4v file from my own iMac onto a memory stick, loaded it onto my wife's iMac, formatted it in iMovie, prettified it in iDVD and burned the discs.
The video quality was rather poor but the audio was better - but I am not really complaining as I was just so pleased to have been able to have burned the darned things at all. So all's well that end's well

    Help.

    Anyone else have this problem?

Sounds to me like you have a LaCie d2 dual layer burner or one of the LaCie burners that has issues. LaCie has created an updated driver to fix this so check the support site:
