Cannot Burn on iDVD '08

I am not able to burn anything in iDVD '08. I have made several attempts to burn a DVD. However, after five minutes of "rendering menu video assets" on the "process menus" stage, my computer becomes completely frozen and must restart my MacBook Pro after each attempt. During each attempt, I have waited anywhere from 0 seconds to 8 hours to restart. This is very frustrating; thanks in advance for the help!!

I have a similar problem with my relatively new 17" MacBook Pro (perhaps exactly the same as some others on this thread). I have tried repeatedly to burn and even left it running overnight thinking I may be over eager. I have made sure I have the most up to date software and reboated several times to be sure. I would love to hear another solution other than those proposed already. I have also removed various non-apple codecs from Quicktime as suggested in another support area on the apple website.
My crash seems to repeatedly occur when rendering the part 2 of 2 in the main menus. Much frustration on this end.

  • Cannot burn in iDVD 2008: maximum content problem on small file!!

    Hello all,
I am having a very weird problem with iDVD '08. I have a file that is only 15 minutes long that I edited in iMovie. The file is about 840mb, and with the menu and everything, it comes up to about 866 mb. iDVD shows everything as fine, encodes, previews, etc..
However, when I go to burn the DVD, it says "Your project exceeds the maximum content duration. To burn your DVD, change the encoder setting in the Project Info window."
In the project info, I have it set as "Best Performance", and that, according to the movie should be ok because the movie is only 15 minutes!!
I have tried everything that I can think of, and it is driving me crazy. I have tried DVD+R, DVD-R, and I have even tried saving the image to the PC, and then burning with Disk Utility.
When I try to burn with Disk Utility (the file is 849mb), it says the DVD does not have enough free space!
Can anyone shed some light on this for me?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello
I'm having the exact same problem, my file is only 12 minutes @ 424 mb! I'm still trouble shooting as we speak so if anyone hears of a worthy solution please pass it on.
With a file containing only 424mb, space should not not a problem. One problem could be the DVD-RAM recordable disk I'm trying to burn to. I was told it would work.
Could it be that my video comes from my new Oylmpus Stylus 820 camera that the apple dudes said would be great for importing video to imovie then sharing to idvd so I could burn with no problem. hmmm.
Is there some crazy application that I have to download to supplement idvd?
    Please help.

  • Cannot burn in idvd

Help! Just when I think I have it solved, another problem crops up.
I am on a Powerbook G4 with 10.5. After spending a few hours figuring out imovie, getting a trial movie done, it will not burn to dvd using idvd. I get the little movie theater type window where it says 'drag you movie' into the space. I go to the folder where the film is, click on and it plays. When I insert the disc to burn, the burn dial appears, I hear it doing something, but it pops out with the message pop up saying 'insert blank dvd,' when these are blanks I just bought.
How can I know if my computer supports this software. Obviously, I have it on the computer, but how can I know what is going wrong in this case? Any help would be very appreciated.

  • Whats going on when after i have put my new project it tells me that cannot burn because my encode it too large for DVD

I am trying to convert a video into a dVd i did one and it will not play on my blueray, but, at least it will do on my computer.  Now i am trying to do a different dvd and it tells me after i have downlowed my new project, that i cannot burn the idvd because it is too large check my encoded?

The reason why your DVD will not play maybe your choice of disk.
    Was it a DVD + or DVD - ?
Always use a good quality DVD blank disk, at least Verbatim and check what format your player will play.
Next, to achieve the best quality export from iMovie, Share your Project to Media Browser.
Then open iDVD and use the media button (bottom right) to import your movie.
A possible reason that you are getting a too large error message is the time length of your DVD.
The default setting in iDVD for Encoding is Best Performance (60mins) and you need to change this to either High Qualirty or Professional Quality which will allow more to be encoded on the disc (120 mins).
iDVD > Project > Project Info > Encoding to change this setting and see on the Capacity slider if your project will fit.
Otherwise check how much free space you have on your HD.
    Z.
PS Slow your burn speed down to x4 for error free results.

  • Problem with iDVD - cannot burn DVD.

Problem with iDVD - cannot burn DVD.
Self has a MacBook Pro, which al new software.
My problem is, when my burn a slideshow, prop process ever before burning.
Box show: Multiflexing and burning: write Lead-in, then the process stops and ejects the disc.
I have burn a Movie test – no problems.
    Self use Verbatim DVD-R
Who can help - what should I do?

How did you create the slideshow and get it in iDVD?
As a general comment try following this workflow to separate the encoding and burning processes:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the  File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

    Update March 9, 2012:
After reviewing the comments regarding this matter on several posts I contacted Apple support. I had to make two calls. The first call left me very frustrated, completely due to the fact the support member was as helpful as sand paper in a sh*t storm. The rep told me "iDVD is no longer available nothing we can do" then proceeded to say "hope we helped you out today".....
I decided to call again when I discovered none of the third party burning software I came across was equal to iDVD, yet would set me back $$$ for something I should already have on my system. This time the rep listened while I camly explained my dissatifaction with Apples choice to not offer this software. In addition, they haven't issued a proper explanation for doing so or rerouted customers to options equal to or greater than their own software upon making the original computer purchase.
Outcome? a copy of iDVD has been mailed out, which I should expect to be here in a week. I appreciate the reps response in making it happen, but it doesn't change my position Apple dropped the ball on this matter. Furthermore, if iDVD is cancelled then how was it so easy to mail one out? Why not offer it as a free download in the App store? etc etc etc....

  • I cannot burn my movie onto IDVD.

I cannot burn my movie onto IDVD. Says multiplexing error. Tried rerendering it as suggested on error code.  Apple wants to charge me $29 to look into it and says the money is non refundable. Suggested I come here.  Can anyone help me?  Please...

I went to the TROUBLESHOOTING desk yesterday at our APPLE store.  I got 15 minutes free.  They told me that IDVD is no longer supported by APPLE and my Mac Mini is 5 years old, therefore, I'm out of luck.  They told me to download new software and I thought the technician said the software is called IM DVD, but of course, I get home and I can't find it.  Now what?

  • Cannot burn an iMovie project to a DVD because the computer can't find iDVD.  Anyone know how to accomplish this task.

Cannot burn an iMovie project to a DVD because the computer can't find iDVD.  Anyone know how to accomplish this task.

Macs don't come bundled with iDVD anymore. If you have an older Mac that came with an iLife disk, you can install iDVD from that.
If your Mac didn't come with iDVD, you can still find iLife '11 disks in some stores.
There are other programs that can create DVDs, but I've never used them. From what I've heard, they're not as good as iDVD.

  • IDVD 7.0.2 - motion menus too large, cannot burn disc

    Hi there,
Can someone help me out with this. I'm burning a dvd I made for christmas presents, and I need to figure this out before the weekend when I need to hand out the gifts ahh!
I finished the dvd, tried to burn it and get the error that reads basically, "motion menus are too large, adjust and try burning again". All menus have photos only - there are no videos in my menus, this is why I'm confused. Could this mean the songs are too big? - I've already reduced the songs to be 2 min for each menu. I really don't want to create the entire thing again, as I'm really close to deadline and the project is completed. Any ideas?
Could it be these: too many buttons in one menu?, videos in each menu are too large? one slideshow I have is 32 min. long, and has 5 songs spliced together for a 32 min. song.?
FYI it is a widescreen project, but may have been started as standard, i can't remember.
    Please help!
    thanks.

    Hi
    a. try to do a DiskImage and see if it works OK
    b. You could try to see what happens if You turn off animation/motion menu
Else it can be a problem needing to be trouble shooted and cured. See list.
*Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows:*
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
    • Hard disk is untidy: Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple Disc Util tool)
    • Delete iDVD pref file - *or rather start a new user/account* - log into this and re-try
    • Program miss-match: iDVD 5.0.2, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK - DON’T work under Leopard
    • Program miss-match: iDVD 6.0.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
    • Program miss-match: iDVD’08 v. 7.0.1, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
    • iDVD (08) v7 Locate theme folder. Move out iDVD1, iDVD 2 and eventually iDVD4 folders to desktop - re-try
    • Try a Cleaning CD/DVD that cleans the laser lens on the DVD burner/player
iDVD 6.0.4 and iDVD 7.0.1 are compatible with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard
iDVD pref file resides: Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences and is named:
    com.apple.iDVD.plist
While iDVD is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
    Now restart iDVD.
Last resort: from Craig: Solved the problem!! Finally!!
I deleted every iDVD application and folder from my boot drive,
emptied the trash and then installed iDVD 08 using the customize option
and I am up and running.

  • Cannot burn dvd without theme

I cannot do what would seem to be the simplest step in imovie and idvd. I have created my customize movie in imovie (no canned themes or audio) and when I go to the shre menu and choose idvd so I can burn my movie, I cannot burn a dvd without first choosing a theme. I don't need a theme...I wnat my movie just the way it is. Please help. This is so frustrating.

  • I cannot burn anything using this program

I have read the instructions, I have read the Hot Tips, and I have even saved an image file and nothing. I have checked settings and preferences and wasted years of time trying to use this so called cool program. I am using an external burner and it is recognized by the program. What the heck is going on and why isn't this program working. The DVD is encoded as well. It even gets my hopes up and runs through the burning process and then burns the disc with nothing on it. Pointless! This is DVD 6.

I'll try the disk image again. I have created on before, but don't actually get to use it. I'll open the disk image file and it has, of course, two files in it. It doesn't prompt or I haven't seen info in iDVD to burn the image. I'll check the link you sent me.
After you have created your disk image, you can test it to see if it works properly. Open DVD Player (Applications folder). Then, click on your disk image to mount it on the desktop. Now, you should see your movie start to play using DVD Player. If it plays correctly, you should be able to burn it.
To burn a DVD from a disk image, open Disk Utility ( Applications->Utilities->DU). Drag your disk image into the left panel. Click on it to select it, then click on 'Burn' on the top left. Follow the instrucions re: inserting your blank DVD disk. You should get a burned DVD in a few minutes.
(These instructions should be one the links I posted...).
The disc will go through the burn and eject the disk with the message burning completed.
You actually get that message, the disk is ejected, but nothing is burned onto it? It won't play in the computer or on a DVD player?
Then when I try to shut the program down it won't. A message of "cleaning up" prompts in the program and never completes.
You mean that you cannot close your iDVD project? Even if you have problems at this point, your disk should have burned already.
Are you referring to your iDVD project as 'the program'?
When you try it again, start with creating a disk image. Be sure to 'delete encoded assets' before you have iDVD make the disk image.
Also after iMovie there is an option to send to iDVD so themes and what not can be added. I usually send the movie that way.
Sometimes that process causing double rendering. Try saving and quitting your iMovie. Open your iDVD project, or better, create a new one. Then, drag and drop your movie into it from within iDVD, via the 'media' pane.
Honestly, it should not be this difficult for you to get a 10min movie burned to disk

  • Burning in iDVD 08; Multiplexer error at end of burn?

Burning in iDVD 08 (vers. 7.1.2), came with new iMac, late June 2011.
This is a project with (3) iMovie projects, on (3) DVD-9 (i.e. Dual-Layer) disks, encoded to Professional Quality for replication.
Disk 1 burned fine, has 220 min of content, 8 video presentations. Tested OK on TV and PC.
Disk 3 also burned OK with 217 min of content, 8 video presentations. Tested OK on TV and PC.
Disk 2 gives repeated errors at end of burn (i.e. - after 3.5 hours of burning).
Multiplexer error; for more info, see XXXXX, which is totally irrelevant doc re: encoding.
Bengt W, have read through your excellent long list of possible problems in reference to burning problems, made a few changes, cannot find any thing else to change.
    Here is what throws me.
    1. Disk #1 and #3 burn without problems, with similar theme, drops, text and titles, longer content.
    2. Disk #2 burns OK with only one of the video presentations. But gives multiplexer error with 4 video projects.
    3. Am using Memorix DL disks, but worked fine with disk #1 and #3.
    4. Tried 5 times (5 different disks) to burn; all failed at end he same way. Been working on problem for 3 days.
    5. Cannot reach Apple Support. Express Lane not working. Feedback line not working -"server error; try again later" from apple.com. Phone service seems unavailable and they do not list hours for phone support. Quite frustrating. Have searched Apple Support Comminities for different descriptions of this problem, and also Google search, etc. without any success.
Other related into. Using new Intel iMac 21", Snow Leopard ( 10.6.8),
Most grateful for ideas into this problem and promise to bow down in respect to anyone who can help me solve this problem.
    Thanks in advance,
    Michael

    Hi
    • Memorix DL disks - Usually a problem maker - If You have a Verbatime - try this - else
    a. Set down burn speed to x4
    b. secure a minimum of 25Gb free space on Start-up (Mac OS) hard disk - others can't take this task
    • There are three major things (as I get it) that give Multiplex errors
    a. Use of strange material eg .avi, .wmv, .mp3 etc
    b. Using other letters than A to Z and 0 to 9 - in titles and sub-titles eg / usually can give this
    c. Turn on TV-Safe area in iDVD and secure that no button or object goes beyond this or even touching it.

  • After downloading lion does not recognize blank discs or dvd´s cannot burn anything

I downloaded Lion and now my mac does not recognize any blank cd or dvd and I cannot burn anything, not with Toast 10, or with iDvd still not recognized.  Can someone help me??

    Hello
I have been trying to fix a similar issue on my wife's PowerBookG4. I cannot pin point when it started, but she noticed it a couple weeks ago when she tried burning a disc. We have come to discover that her drive will no longer mount any discs at all (blank or otherwise burned discs or software). If I had to make a guess it had to have started in the last month or so after some recent update. Maybe 10.5.2? I am not sure.
I am getting extremely frustrated with Apple though on this matter because I have been browsing multiple forums and seeing this exact issue over and over again and nobody seems to have a solution or correct diagnostic for it.
I have tried zapping PRAM, I have tried many types of discs, brands, etc. and nothing works. I know this is a Software issue, it has to be. There are a LOT of people reporting this issue. If necessary I will start linking to all the different posts that I found in the last few days.
Please post some help, ASAP. This has been a major inconvenience and I cannot believe that Apple hasn't discovered the problem with how many people have been reporting it.
    Thanks

    Erasable: No
    Overwritable: Yes
    Appendable: Yes
    Write Speeds: 2.4x, 4x
and for some reason I cannot burn a 7.85GB movie onto a DL 8.5GB disc...any help would be great. I have tried to change the settings in "Project info" in iDvD but with no avail. it only gives me 2 options 4.4Gb and 7.7 Gb why not the standard 8.5?
Message was edited by: Anything works

The total GB burnable includes the contents of all the menus and submenus. Could that be enough to exceed the disk's capacity when added to the GB of your movie?

  • Cannot burn, getting error msg. #34506

Am trying to burn a 50 min. project and at the end of the 5 hour loading, I am getting an error message that the program cannot burn, #34506. Looking at the tree at the bottom of the page, everything looks ok.

    Hi
    a. free space on start-up hard disk (others of no interest), How much ?
I set for a minimum of 25 GB when ready to burn.
    b. trashing the pref file - most often a good idea
    c. use of DVD material
    I use Verbatim - only
I use DVD-R disks (My G4 can not use DVD+R and RW doesn't work either)
    • I make a DiskImage (File/Save as a DiskImage) and
    • test this with DVD-player tool then I
    • burn this via Disk Util tool and set down burn speed to x4 or x1
a 50 min project can take several hours to calculate in a G4-Mac
my G4 (600MHz) took about 18h per hour of movie + menu
iDVD only cares about duration - and menu can take up to 15 min or even more
resulting in that a 50 min movie + 15 min menu exceeds one of iDVD encoding qualities
as it is limited to 60 minutes
iDVD 08 & 09 has three levels of qualities.
iDVD 6 has the two last ones
    • Professional Quality *(movies up to 120 min.)* - BEST
    • Best Performances *(movies less than 60 min.)* - High quality on final DVD
    • High Quality (in iDVD08 or 09) / Best Quality (in iDVD6) *(movies up to 120 min.)* - slightly lower quality than above
