Cannot buy another logic pro licence as it is already installed on machine

I know this is no Logic thing, but I definitively hope that anyone from Apple is reading along.
Started a new business and keep that old SL machine already equipped with Logic Pro + MainStage. The other licence will get used by the other business. As of this I would like to buy a new licence for this machine. What do I have to do to keep my current environment (not loosing anything) just replacing the licence. Tried doing this in App Store. It asks me if I am safe to buy this licence anyways. When saying yes it that the buy cannot be finished as Logic Pro is already installed on this machine. Does this mean I have to completely setup everything? Hopefully not!
This is my first experience with App Store. What I see until now it does not replace the good old glossy paper box.
Any help would be highly appreciated. Thanks.
BTW: This does only partially fit here. I had to login with an 'emergency' apple-id I created once as I could not login with my normal Apple-ID. It asked me to login twice and in a further dialog to pick a username. The point is, that this other account is related to my Apple Developer account. Maybe a person could get in touch with me to please correcting things.

Ok. The current version on this MBP was installed from a DVD version. The other machine (where this DVD version will/or already is - don't know) is NOT under my control or even accessible.
I don't want to setup everything new as things are perfectly working. But I definitively want to BUY A LICENCE. It does not bother me to have a foreign licence number and name in this id file as long as I legally bought a licence that nobody can telling me you stole it.
Hope this clarifies the situation.
Don't cannot reinstall this machine from scrap because of this:
$ df -h
Filesystem               Size   Used  Avail Capacity  Mounted on
/dev/disk0s2            698Gi  503Gi  195Gi    73%    /
...it is heavily loaded.

  • If I buy Logic pro, how many computers can I install it on?

if I buy Logic pro, how many computers can I install it on? will the spp-store let me download again if get new computer?

The license agreement for the DVD version of Logic is different... and  only allows for you to install it on two computers (Specifically one desktop and one laptop) In additiont you are supposed to only actually run Logic on one of them at a time and not both at the same time...
So in your instance, you should, according to your license agreement, remove Logic from your older Macbook in order to install it on your new MacBook Pro....
However, if I were you, I would contact Apple to confirm this as there is some discussion as to if this license agreement is still in force or if Logic, once it is updated via the App Store Update routines in Mountain Lion, then is covered by the App Store agreement which allows unlimited installs of Logic Pro on any computer you own...
It's a very grey area... and there is nothing stopping you from installing Logic on all three Macs except for that license agreement as the physical check that used to be present in Logic Pro, to prevent you using it on more than one Mac at a time, was removed a while back... so read into that, what you will.
Again, to be absolutely sure, legally speaking, contact Apple and ask them for guidance... (and if possible get it in writing from them, if they give you the go ahead to install and use Logic Pro on a third computer)

José, if you buy and download Logic Pro in App Store now, the best option would be to buy an upgrade to Logic Studio. I don't think Jam Packs are available any more in Apple Store, besides it will be more expensive buying them one by one than upgrading to Studio.

  • Logic pro 9 additional content won't install and iMac 27" late 2012 won't start in Safe Mode

    Hi,
I have bought Logic Pro 9 and have encountered problems installing the Additional Content pack. I am using late 2012 iMac 27" (with fusion 3TB drive) and OS X Mavericks (10.9.1).
For some reason the Additional Content pack does not install when downloaded from Logic Pro menu and it does not install either when using the .dmg file. I noticed that many users are facing the same problem, but they have resolved the issue installing the Additional Content in Safe Mode. However, my iMac does not boot in Safe Mode (other users are encountering this annoying problem and it remains unresolved by Apple, see https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5485131?start=0&tstart=0).
This is extremely frustating, because I am using my iMac for my work and therefore it is impossible to backup my data reinstall the OS X. Additionally, I am using the computer for my music projects and I am completely stuck, because I cannot use insrument patches that I need.
Does anyone have solution for this?

Install on my Core2Duo 17" MacBook Pro went flawlessly, but install on my 8 Core Mac Pro suffered this problem.  Many thanks for the solution Don, it worked for me ;-)
I am trying hard to supress an ironic chuckle though, reading other posts in this thread .... suggesting that people should call Apple Tech Support and expressing incredulity that people weren't doing this as their first option.
Well I can say say that after several calls to Apple Tech Support, amounting to several hours on the phone, and well over an hour on the phone with them today, I was informed that this problem is a known bug, and that Apple are working on a solution.  They couldn't tell me what the bug is, what machines are affected, or what else might trigger it, or when a bug release might be due.
Their troubleshooting steps basically involved various reboots, repairing disc permissions, reseting the user home directory via terminal, booting up in recovery mode (but not safe mode as per this solution) trashing various preferences files, and, as a final step, uninstalling and reinstalling from scratch.
Only when all that failed was I told that there is a known bug that Apple are working on.
I came here to see what the community was saying, as the Tech Support guy did say there was likely to be some info on the forums.  Lo and behold, a solution is posted and it works.
Why are Apple's Tech Support (in the UK at least) not aware of this?
Oh well, at least I'm up and running on my Mac Pro now.
    Thanks again Don,
    Cheers,
    Nigel

It sounds like an issue of trying to run XI on VISTA. That combination does not work. Info on both the Acrobat full version (including sub-version) and OS would help. It might also be an issue of running 11.0.0 on a system that needs the updates to work.

  • I had a code to get logics pro for free and after it installed its asking me for a serial number does anyone know what to do from here.

I had a code to get logics pro for free and after it installed its asking me for a serial number but it never gave me one to put in, it just started downloading and then asked me. Does anyone know what to do from here.

I really don't think that is anywhere near on track.
Most likely the trial version was installed earlier, is that correct?

  • Which Mac Pro to buy for Logic Pro and Final Cut Pro X?

Hi, I'm considering to buy a Mac Pro for my personal studio. I have 2 choices in my mind: 1st one is the "Quad-core (one 3.2GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon) with 6GB RAM", and the 2nd one is "12-core (Two 2.4GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon) with 12GB RAM". I'll be mainly using Logic Pro 9 and hardcore video editing in Final Cut Pro X. I know the fact that having higher GHz than more cores may benefit you at some point, and only those software applications that are well-written for using multiple cores will be able to utilize the power of 12-core. So, I need to know that are Logic and FCPX are such apps? Are they able to utilize the power of 12-cores or a Quad-core with more GHz will be better? I'm looking for fast operation and smoother workflow, and I'll also be using this computer for a very long time (so, its a major investment!).
So, the ultimate verdict is to whether to go for more clockspeed or more cores? Money is not the problem here, and I will add more RAMs, SSD according to the need later after couple of months, but considering nothing else I need you to compare between these two machines! If the 12-core machine is even 1% faster I'll go for it, but I don't want to end up spending more money on the machine with will have less power and utility.
    Regards.

    6 core 3.33 1st choice
    8 core 2.93 or higher

  • Device, driver loaded properly. Can hear through device 'phone input. Cannot hear through Logic Pro.

I successfully loaded the driver to my brand-new Steinberg UR22 interface. The device shows up in Preferences > Audio as the input and output. I can hear a signal through headphones plugged into the headphone jack on the Steinberg.
I cannot hear anything in Logic Pro, however. I've created a track, but cannot get my guitar to generate any movement on the LED fader on the lower left, or change rigs using the guitar amps/effects library on the right.
    What am I doing wrong?
Why isn't there anything in the user's manual related to this?

You've created an Audio Track, correct?
Have you set the audio track to the correct input?
The UR22's second (#2) input should be used with the Hi-Z switch enabled.
Input gain at 1/2  also make sure the Master Output is up.
You have a monitoring knob labeled Input/DAW
If you wish to monitor both set the know to the halfway point, balance from that point.
By Master Output I was referring to the Output level on the UR22

A Basic Guide for Migrating to Intel-Macs
The Knowledgebase article <a href="http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1963?viewlocale=en_US">Intel-based Mac: Some migrated applications may need to be updated</a> refers to methods of dealing with migrating from PowerPC chips to Intel with the Migration Assistant safely. The authors of this tip have not had a chance to verify this works in all instances, or that it avoids the 10.6.1 and earlier Guest Account bug that caused account information to get deleted upon use of the Migration/Setup Assistant. However, a well backed up source that includes at least two backups of all the data that are not connected to your machine will help you avoid potential issues, should they arise. In event it does not work, follow the steps below.
If you are migrating a PowerPC system (G3, G4, or G5) to an Intel-Mac be careful what you migrate.  Keep in mind that some items that may get transferred will not work on Intel machines and may end up causing your computer's operating system to malfunction.
Rosetta supports "software that runs on the PowerPC G3, G4, or G5 processor that are built for Mac OS X". This excludes the items that are not universal binaries or simply will not work in Rosetta:
    >Classic Environment, and subsequently any Mac OS 9 or earlier applications
    >Screensavers written for the PowerPC
    >System Preference add-ons
    >All Unsanity Haxies
    >Browser and other plug-ins
    >Contextual Menu Items
    >Applications which specifically require the PowerPC G5
    >Kernel extensions
    >Java applications with JNI (PowerPC) libraries</li>
    See also <a href="http://developer.apple.com/documentation/MacOSX/Conceptual/universal_binary/univ ersal_binary_exec_a/chapter_950_section_1.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/TP40002217-CH 210-TPXREF101">What Can Be Translated by Rosetta</a>.
In addition to the above you could also have problems with migrated cache files and/or cache files containing code that is incompatible.
If you migrate a user folder that contains any of these items, you may find that your Intel-Mac is malfunctioning. It would be wise to take care when migrating your systems from a PowerPC platform to an Intel-Mac platform to assure that you do not migrate these incompatible items.
If you have problems with applications not working, then completely uninstall said application and reinstall it from scratch. Take great care with Java applications and Java-based Peer-to-Peer applications. Many Java apps will not work on Intel-Macs as they are currently compiled. As of this time Limewire, Cabos, and Acquisition are available as universal binaries. Do not install browser plug-ins such as Flash or Shockwave from downloaded installers unless they are universal binaries. The version of OS X installed on your Intel-Mac comes with special compatible versions of Flash and Shockwave plug-ins for use with your browser.
The same problem will exist for any hardware drivers such as mouse software unless the drivers have been compiled as universal binaries. For third-party mice the current choices are USB Overdrive or SteerMouse. Contact the developer or manufacturer of your third-party mouse software to find out when a universal binary version will be available.
Also be careful with some backup utilities and third-party disk repair utilities. Disk Warrior 4.1, TechTool Pro 4.6.1, SuperDuper 2.5, and Drive Genius 2.0.2 work properly on Intel-Macs with Leopard.  The same caution may apply to the many "maintenance" utilities that have not yet been converted to universal binaries.  Leopard Cache Cleaner, Onyx, TinkerTool System, and Cocktail are now compatible with Leopard.
Before migrating or installing software on your Intel-Mac check <a href="http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20060126094146180">MacFixit's Rosetta Compatibility Index</a>.

<a href="http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25773">Transferring data with Setup Assistant - Migration Assistant FAQ</a>
Because Migration Assistant isn't the ideal way to migrate from PowerPC to Intel Macs, using Target Disk Mode, copying the critical contents to CD and DVD, an external hard drive, or networking
will work better when moving from PowerPC to Intel Macs.   The initial section below discusses Target Disk Mode.  It is then followed by a section which discusses networking with Macs that lack Firewire.
<b>If both computers support the use of Firewire then you can use the following instructions</b>:
    1. Repair the hard drive and permissions using Disk Utility.
    2. Backup your data.  This is vitally important in case you make a mistake or there's some other problem.
    3. Connect a Firewire cable between your old Mac and your new Intel Mac.
    4. Startup your old Mac in Target Disk Mode.
    5. Startup your new Mac for the first time, go through the setup and registration screens, but do NOT migrate data over. Get to your desktop on the new Mac without migrating any new data over.
<b>If you are not able to use a Firewire connection (for example you have a Late 2008 MacBook that only supports USB:)</b>
    1. Set up a local home network: <a href="http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1433">Creating a small Ethernet Network</a>.

If you need to transfer data for other applications please ask the vendor or ask in the  Discussions where specific applications store their data.

  • Can I buy Logic Pro 9 on its own?...

Or only as part of the Logic Studio suite? The Apple Store website doesn't seem to have an option for buying Pro 9 on its own.
What are the main differences between Pro and Logic Express.

Think of Logic Studio as buying only Logic Pro 9, but getting a whole bunch of extras for free.
And it's still half the price, and ten times the content, of what Logic Pro used to be on it's own.
And Logic Pro, came with all the optional extras which used to make the full Logic Platinum twice as much as Logic Pro was.
When I was first starting out, I was lucky enough to sort of intern at a studio, where I composed for commercials and very bad corporate videos and such. I was barely 18 at the time, and among other gear, the hallowed music production workstation I was trained on to do this work was the Fairlight series 3. By then the Fairlight was already a bit past its prime (this was the early 90s), but just to make a point - the thing cost like 100 grand. And was significantly less capable than one instance of the EXS 24. In fact, the laptop I use now, does more than everything we could do in that whole studio back then, outboard gear included. OK I'm not counting the mics and preamps. Nor the acoustically designed control room or recording rooms. But you get the point.
Ok I sound like grandpa going on about you young whipper-snappers, you have no idea how good you have it etc.. But I'm a pro musician only in my mid 30s, so it wasn't really that long ago.
499 bucks for everything I had access to in a multi-million dollar studio back then? Sounds like a more or less reasonable deal to me.
