Cannot cancel a shared folder

hi,
I shared my video folder with another session/user on my mac then I i deleted the said session. Now I can't "unshare" the folder. I can't uncheck the little box in the informations of the folder and can't delete it the the preference system/share. Plus, every time I move a file in that folder it asks me my password.
Any thoughts?
(I'm on Lion, if that changes anything)
Thanks

I am still waiting for some one to respond with a solution. Seems somebody ought to have an answer for us, Greg. I am at my wits end.  All of my firewall setting are as they should be on both computers.  I just don't understand why I can share from the xp to the windows 7 but not from the windows 7 to the xp. Somebody? Anybody! Now that I think about it I think it has something to do with the Windows 7 because before I had Windows 7 installed I am sure I had no problems sharing from both computers.  i forget which version of Windows I had on here but I'm sure it was the lastest one before Windows 7.

  • Cannot access a shared folder Error code: 0x80070035

    Hello Experts,
I have been working on this issue for like three days without a solution. I am truly desperate.
My company just purchased a new Cloud Server that we will use as our development environment for a software project. In order for all the developers (which are all over the US) to access the development environment, we need to have a few shared folders on
    that new server.
As soon as we got the server I did the following:
    1) Installed Active Directory
    2) Created a directory and made it shared - yes IT IS shared.
    3) I created a few new users on the new active directory domain
    THE PROBLEM:
I can't access the shared directory.
Other developers have been successful in connecting to the shared folder (so the share is working) - all except me.
when I open explorer and type \\IPADDRESS\SHAREDFOLDER instead I get this error (I am not even asked for credentials)
    Network Error
    Windows cannot access \\IPADDRESS\SHAREDFOLDER
    Error code: 0x80070035
The network path was not found.
    Things I have already tried:
    a) Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP - on all adapters - still did not help
    b) Disable IPv6 - I am not sure how to check if it truly disabled
    c) Turned off all firewalls - did not help
    d) Mapping a Drive using different credentials - I just get asked for credentials over and over
    e) Ping - yes I can see the server
    f) My credentials are correct because I can Remote Desktop with the credentials with no problem ( I am administrator)
    My Machine:
    Brand New Asus G Series
    Windows 7 Home Edition
    Any ideas?
    Sorcerdon

In my case it was that the OU that my system was in did not have firewall rules for network file and printer sharing enabled. I enabled all of the rules for Domain policy and that fixed it.
I noticed a lot of comments about turning off the firewall not working. I can't be 100% sure, but in my experience with Server 2008 and Windows 7, if you want to configure a service that uses the network the base filter engine and the firewall HAVE to be
turned on while you configure. You can turn the firewall off after configuration, but they have to be active during configuration.
    Good luck!

  • Cannot access a shared folder in TC with Windows XP

I have a Windows XP machine that has a network share to the time capsule. Basically, when I click on it, the folder opens as expected and displays the same contents that I see on my mac. But when I click on a shared folder within the TC folder, there are no contents in the folder - but actually there are hundreds of files within that folder.
I installed Bonjour on the XP machine, but it appears to be a printing application or something? plz help - it will save me headache.

How did you put this shared folder onto the TC?
If you copy a file/folder to the TC manually (drag&drop), any computer with access to the TC will be able to read it. I don't think an XP machine will be able to use a folder that was backed up to the TC using Time Machine.
If you manually copied the file/folder, and still can't access it from the XP machine, make sure that you've set the "workgroup" in the TC setup to be the same as the workgroup on the XP PC. Default for XP is Mshome. Also make sure that sharing is set to "read/write".
Have you tried connecting to the TC by clicking my computer/my network places/windows network/workgroup/time capsule, rather than using a network share?

  • Afp sharing bug with static IP ? cannot connect to shared folder via wireless router

Does anyone ever try this ?
i got 2 macs (imac snow leopard 6.6 and macbookpro leopard 10.5.8). connect to a wireless router using UTP cable and set using static ip , connection  is ok, ping is ok, ftp between two mac is ok, browse the internet is ok. But i got on problem , i can't connect to shared folder. Error : 'connection failed' . i can see the other mac's icon on the shared section in finder, but i can't connect to it. The problem is fixed if --> The only way  i can connect to shared folder is if i changed the ip from static to dhcp. Or if i want to keep my static ip, i have to connect mac to mac (using crosscable or airport) without the router , then the sharing folder will work fine.  Anyone got similar problem? The problem only happen while sharing using afp and smb method. I have no problem with ftp, ftp sharing is working perfectly in any situation above.
My conclussion : afp sharing is having problem when apply with static IP and connected to router (or wireless router only ??) is this an afp bug on snow ?
    Any idea ?
    Thanx

I did pay the 12 dollars, but I think the program remembers with the free one.  If you didn't ever have to do port forwarding in the past, then you likely won't have to do it again.  I couldn't get modern warfare to play properly without it.  But your situation might be different.
If you had it in the DMZ, then that is a work around to doing port forwarding, so that will still work for you as it did before, and if you reset it properly, then yes you will have to put the ps3 back in the dmz.
just keep in mind if you changed your WiFI SSID or Password, it will reset to the default, and the default is found on your sticker that is on your router.

  • When accessing shared folder - 'You might not have permission to use this network resource" .. A device attached to the system is not functioning

On a Windows 2008 R2 server that had been working fine, all of a sudden some shared folders became inaccessible.  Clicking on them returned the following: "<Folder> is not accessible.  You might not have permission to use this network
resource.  A device attached to the system is not functioning."
If I create another share with a different name for that same folder, it works fine.  If I delete the original share then recreate it with the same name, I get the same error.  However, if I right click on the problematic share and select 'map
network drive' that works.  So this would not appear to be a permission issue.
I discovered this problem because the path for mapping the home folder as a property of their AD account stopped working.
I have tried most of the common things found on the internet.  I've tried accessing via IP, same issue.  While I only have a couple 2003 servers, those can access this resource.
At this point, I'm pretty much out of ideas.  Any help would be appreciated.  I also have some reports of potential issues with some printer mappings too which I will have to investigate in the morning.
If anyone has a solution to this I would be extremely grateful.  Thank you.

    Hi,
Can you access the shard folder locally? Is a specific server cannot access the shared folder? Please try to Boot your server in Clean Mode to check if some third-party software cause the issue.

  • I cannot open my movies folder after enabling sharing

    Hello,
I recently purchased the mac mini server with osx 10.8.4. I changed some folder settings on this computer to include file sharing (guests with read only access etc.) - some through finder and some through the server app. This includes the main "Movies" folder which is on a partition called "Server HD".
My first clue that something has screwed up is when the file sharing pane within the server application went all grey, and it added another folder with the name "Movies-1" (with the exact same icon that you would normally see in your library - the one with the reel on it).
My second clue was when my guest computer (also mac mini - older, which could read all my other shares including iphoto and other folders) would say "cannot find the original folder" each time i clicke on the Movies folder.
Now I'm stuck - I can't change the settings on the main mac, it says "you have unknown permissions".
An ls -el or ls -l both deny me any access to who owns this folder / group etc. Results pasted below:
    bpmac:~ bpingali$ ls -l
    ls: Movies: Permission denied
    total 0

    drwxr-xr-x+  4 bpingali  staff   136 Jun 22 16:47 Public
I tried removing DS_store to no avail
    bpmac:~ bpingali$ rm ~/Movies/.DS_Store
I just get a dialog saying "you do not have permission to access its contents" when i double click.
Please help! This is a super new computer with lots of content in that folder which I would love to be sharing on my home network over this weekend!
    Thanks in advance.

    Back up all data.
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out these instructions.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below to select it:
    sudo chmod -R -N Movies
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C).
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. Confirm. You don't need to post the warning.
If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator. Ask for instructions.
The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear. Test.

  • Other Users Cannot Connect To My Shared Folder. Only Displays VNC

I set my account up to accept File Share.
When my friends access my computer through the "share" tab in finder, it says that they are connected through VNC and gives them an option to do "screen sharing" but thats all that they can do.
They cannot see the public folder.
    How can I fix this?
    Thanks,
    Jake

you can also remove all the preffered networks in your computer and reconnect to the network using the new setting that you have placed on the router.

  • Other Mac users cannot see my shared public folder

Other users on my network cannot see my Public shared folder. I can see their public folders no problem. I can connect to my computer from another Mac and "connect as" myself and see folders.
I have File Sharing turned on. Permissions look copacetic. It says I'm the owner of the shared folder.
IT's has a profile on this same machine – its Public folder shows up for other users. When I set up a new account profile, its shared folder shows up no problem.
It may, just may, have to do with me changing my short login name after migrating to this machine. Problem is, I have no idea how to confirm that. Finder shows proper ownership and permissions in the info windows. I think there's something deeper down in the account system level that is wrong, but I don't know where to look.

If you have admin rights, you can create a new account in System Preferences and see if that shared folder shows up on the network. If it does, then it could be related to changing short name (which I have heard you aren't suppose to do). If not, it may be something in the system. Give that a try and post back what happens.

Why cannot QuickVPN reach into the shared folder behind WRVS4400n ?
I can remotly log onto the router WRVS4400n through QuickVPN from my WinXP PC, but i cannot reach into the folder behind the router. • User cannot access shared folder on a single PC.

This one has got me thoroughly confused.
Over the weekend I'm moved a shared folder from an old file server to a new one. Move went well. Added share and security permissions. Changed user scripts. Check ever users system to insure they had the new share drive and wouldn't notice a thing. All worked well.
    Except one user.
She cannot access the share at all. She can access other shares on the new file server. She can access the needed share on other systems. Other users who have access can access the share on her system.
Does anyone have anything I can do beside wiping her profile/system?

  • Cannot delete file from shared folder

While I was looking for another file in my shared folder, I discovered a jpg file named shannonhenry.jpg. All it appears to be is a school photo of a boy, maybe 14 or so. I tried to move it to trash to delete it because I do not know who this kid is, and I got an error message saying that I do not have sufficient priviledges. Anyone know what this file is or could be????

Well Kelley, that photo did not come with the system so it had to come from you or someone else putting in the Shared folder.
Choose the file and "get info" (command- i) turn the dislclosure triangle on "Ownership & Permissions" make sure you can "read & write" and make yourself the "owner"(open the lock and enter your admin password).
Then check under General, turn the disclosure triangle and be sure the "locked" box in NOT checked.
    Let us know.

  • Cannot access OS X 10.7 sharing folder from Windows OS

Since we need to scan documents from copier, and those files will be saved to User's computer sharing folder directly.
For those users who are using OS X 10.6, share 'scan-files'
At Windows XP, net view \\computer-ip-address.
Can show the share name below. So the scanning is successful.
    Share Name                           Type

    scan-files                                      Disk             scan-files
For those users who are using OS X 10.7.2 or 10.7.3, share 'scan-files'  (These users upgraded their OS to 10.7 recently)
At Windows XP, net view \\computer-ip-address.
"System error 5 has occurred. Access is denied." error message is appearred. So can't scan file from copier to their computer directly.

  • Java Applets cannot work in IE when PAC file is in shared folder

I have a PAC file (proxy auto config) residing in a shared folder, i.e. \\fileserver\share\proxy.pac. My IE and firefox is configured to point to the PAC file. Java applet is working fine in Firefox but fails to run in IE.
From the Java console, the applet seems to be trying to access the internet via DIRECT connection. The applet works properly when I configured IE to point to a PAC file in a web server, ie http://webserver/proxy.pac or in the local drive, ie file://c:\proxy.pac. My objective is to configure IE to point to a PAC file in a shared folder and make it work. Can anyone help?

Did you ever resolve this issue ? We have recently moved from a http based pac file to using file://netlogon share/proxy.pac. Recievng similar errors as you describe with various applets. Seems to work ok when using the same pac file launched by http rather than file. Seems to be various BUG's marginally related to similar issues but nothing to confirm that its a real problem.
Be great if anyone has an answer to this.
    Thanks
