Cannot Capture - HVX200 - Half-Sized Frames - P2 Card

When I set the hvx200 for tape recording it works fine but when I set it for P2 recording I get a message saying that the camera is sending "half-sized" frames and so cannot be captured.
Changing the tape mode to sp, as indicated in the error message, seems to be irrelevant, especially since tape mode works fine.

hi Louis
forgive my ignorance but what exactly is a Sony 1080i ? is that a camera or a deck or a monitor? Some camera's are switchable (can play and record both PAL and NTSC). If, for example, you have a Sony Z1U then you only need to switch it to PAL (50i) and you should be able to use that for capture.
cheers

  • With Half-Sized Frame and SP/LP error, am I getting lower quality?

Seven years ago, I recorded some videos with my Canon ZR miniDV camcorder.  I want to preserve the quality of these videos by archiving them on my Mac.  The read head on this camcorder is broken. So, I'm borrowing my brother's Sony Digital Handycam DCR-PC110 NTSC to play these miniDV video tapes.
When I use iMovie 6 to import, I get this message:
"The camera is sending half-sized frames, which iMovie can’t accept. Check your camera’s record mode (this is the setting that affects recording quality, which determines the total recording time on a tape). The mode must be set to “SP” or “LP.” If that doesn't help, try removing all the cables and batteries from the camera, wait a minute, replace them, and then reset the date, time, and record mode."
The recording mode is already set to "SP". However, I still cannot import. Every time I try to play the video, it shows a fraction of a second of the video and then it stops. If I disconnect the camera from the Mac, I can play the video without a problem. It seems that iMovie 6 will not allow me to play this video.
Does anybody know what the problem is?
With my brother's miniDV tapes, I don't get this problem on his Sony Digital Handycam.
From some research, I read that it might have something to do with playing a PAL recording instead of NTSC.  However, my cameras are NTSC.  I've never (consciously or remember to) use PAL.  iMovie 6 is set to 29.97 bps frame rate, which is supposedly NTSC.
I tried the suggestion from this posting:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/1808010#1808010
    Which is:
    -  I disconnected the camera from the Mac.
    -  Started up iMovie 6.
    -  Started playing my miniDV tape.
    -  Connected the firewire from the camera to the Mac
Now, I can play and import the miniDV video on iMovie 6.  However, I'm curious as to whether iMovie is inputting NTSC and saving into PAL, or vice versa.  Therefore, I'm concerned about the possibility of losing quality.  Would anybody know if I will be losing quality?

"..the last 43 minutes of clips, cannot play well on my Canon camcorder.."
Run through the tapes to see how many total minutes of material you have on these tapes. A miniDV tape records a maximum of 63 mins at Standard Play rate, and up to about 90 mins at LP (Long Play) rate.
If you have more than 63 mins of material on these tapes, then the recording was made at LP rate.
At LP rate, the tape moves at 2/3 the speed of SP, which means that the video tracks recorded on the tape are very narrow. This means that when those tapes are played in a different camcorder the heads may read the tape properly, because there's no margin for error on these very narrow tracks. When replaying an LP tape, the camcorder's heads may not properly align with the recorded track, giving the 'half frame' error you mentioned.
No camera manufacturer guarantees that any LP material will play correctly on any camcorder other than the one on which it was recorded (because of these narrow LP tracks). [Sony created the professional 'DVCAM' speed - one-and-a-half-times normal SP speed, so two-thirds the recording time - to provide -w-i-d-e-r- tracks than normal, and thus ensure that professional DV recordings can be played back and edited on equipment other than the camcorder which was used
    for shooting the material.]
The only solution for LP tapes is to try importing from as many different camcorders as possible till you find one which will do the job. (I had to do exactly the same thing last week, and found that various other Sony 'consumer-grade' camcorders - the material was recorded on a Sony - couldn't 'lock onto' the LP track, but professional or 'prosumer' (more expensive) Canon (XLH1) and Sony (FX1) camcorders could play the old LP material.)
Before trying to play old tapes, whether SP or LP, always wind them fast-forward all the way to the end, then rewind them - at least once - to make sure that the tape layers don't stick together, and to ease the stresses in the tape. You should also do this once a year to every recorded tape, to avoid stresses, pinching, and 'print-through' (seepage of magnetism from one layer of tape to others).
P.S: Have you tried cleaning the 'broken' head on your old Canon? Dip a cotton bud in methylated spirits - or, better still, carbon tetrachloride 'dry cleaning' fluid - and slowly turn the head drum, and wipe up and down it, over and over again ..making sure NOT to catch cotton wool in the sharp narrow gap between each of the (two) heads, which are each halfway round the head (at 180 degrees to each other). Wipe carefully, then examine the cotton bud and see if there are any brown stains on it ..if so, you've cleaned old muck off the head. Repeat with a new cotton bud until there are no more stains on it. Leave the head drum to dry for 10 minutes, playing gentle (half) heat from a hair-dryer on it, but don't melt the plastic camcorder - so that the fluid evaporates and doesn't stick any tape to the head! - then try importing again.
P.P.S: "..It seems that iMovie 6 will not allow me to play this video.." iMovie's tolerance for damaged digital video frames is far tighter than any camcorder's: a camcorder will often replace 'damaged' frames with detail from the undamaged frame before, so doesn't give a clear idea of how damaged the video data may be. If it won't import, it's damaged, possibly through head misalignment, or through a weak or dissipated signal. (Earlier versions, such as iMovie 2.1.2, were more tolerant of 'dodgy' video, and could import material which later versions, e.g; iMHD6, won't allow accept.)

  • PAL/NTSC half-sized frames SP LP ****

Here's the rub: I have a SONY DCR-HC90 (NTSC)... which iMovie can and does import flawless NTSC recorded DV. However, when it comes to importing PAL DV it is struggling. If I change the frame rate to 25fps, iMovie throws up "the camera is sending half-sized frames, which iMovie HD can't accept.... blah blah. Setting the frame rate to 29.75fps (NTSC), causes the iMovie to abort the import.
The end result is that I can't import PAL from my NTSC handycam!!! (By the way, the camera's plays both perfectly on TV and in it's LCD screen.
    Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks

I think it isn't possible to import to a PAL project from a NTSC camcorder even if a TV accepts it. Most current PAL TVs can play NTSC just fine but iMovie might not be so tolerant.
    [digs old posts]:
My PAL Sony TRV320E VCR menus have a setting VTR SET/NTSC PB/ON PAL TV or NTSC 4.43. My setting has always been "ON PAL TV".
The TRV320E (PAL) manual says this about the NTSC PB setting:
"ON PAL TV: To playback a tape recorded on your camcorder on a PAL system."
"NTSC 4.43: To playback a tape recorded in the NTSC colour system on a TV with the NTSC 4.43 mode."
Googling around indicated that NTSC 4.43 is a variation of NTSC where the signal is encoded using the PAL subcarrier frequency and chroma modulation. Also known as PAL60. Or:
A variation of NTSC-M where a 525/59.94 NTSC signal is encoded using the PAL subcarrier frequency and chroma modulation. It is NOT PAL, nor is it encoded as PAL, but rather i! t is NTSC color just using PAL's subcarrier frequency. Most (but not all) multi-system Vcr's will support this mode, but only multi-standard monitors are capable of reproducing it."
    Also:
If you have a DV cassette recorded at 30 p/s (from a NTSC camcorder...), and play it on a PAL TRV-900, that machine will output a non-standard signal at 30 p/s with either NTSC 4.43 color encoding or PAL color encoding (choice in the menus). Most TV will play it fine, but VCRs won't record it. From that tape, it will also output a standard NTSC DV stream via firewire.
    Or vice versa:
If you have a DV cassette recorded at 25 p/s (from a PAL camcorder...), and play it on a US TRV-900, that machine will output a non-standard signal at 25 p/s with NTSC 3.58 color encoding. Most TV will play it fine, but VCRs won't record it. From that tape, it will also output a standard PAL DV stream via firewire.
Out of curiosity I set my PAL Sony TRV320 to VTR SET/NTSC PB/ from "ON PAL TV" to "NTSC 4.43".
This setting didn't seem to have any effect when importing old footage or new footage to an iMovie HD PAL project. I could apply titles as usual.
I then created a NTSC project and tried to import from the camcorder to it but (as expected) iMovie had an error message that it couldn't import half frames or something like that.

  • Half sized frames

i did a 2 year search and found others had my symptoms, some had answers relating to hd issues, others went unanswered. i have a simple sony digital 8 camcorder. used to import great. recently i couldn't import into quick time (latest version)(just black screen, "no data recorded") tried imovie 6 and got a "half size frames" error. did as they said; unplugged all cables, reset date, time, rec speed to no avail. imovie 8 will import but plays back fast. same with imovie 6. i can import bursts but time code breaks every few seconds stop it. (and playback is fast) tried switching frames rates on imovie, switched from dv input to mpeg 4, same results. went through all the menus on my sony. same problem if i play back dv tapes, old hi-8 through the conversion or av-dv using vhs. as i said used to work great. (well imovie 6 had import issues forever which there are many threads about) but i can't think of anything that changed.

  • Can I capture the video from the TV card or video capture card to publish

Can I capture the video from the TV card or video capture card to publish?
I tried to use the USB camera, it's OK. But, will the TV card or video capture card also work?

    Hi,
iChat will set up a Video chat window that takes in to account your Processor speed and Internet Speed and to some extent the Buddy's speed.
This then denotes the pixel content of each frame.
OS X 10.6.x tells me this is iChat 5 which in turn mean you have  at least an Intel Core 2 Duo Processor.
This should be capable of 30 frames a sec at  about 640 X 480 pixels  (Check the Connection Doctor (Video Menu) and the Statistics tab during a Chat).
iChat 5 cannot do HD  (Max of 4:3 ratio at the above figures)
After that it depends how you are recording the chat.
    Quicktime X would do it.
iChat will do it itself (if the Buddy agrees)

  • Anyone ever use a Canon XH A1 with FCP 5.1.4? I cannot capture at present.

I tried to start a new project with different setting for SD, and all the settings I originally had for my HD project changed, now I cannot capture anymore. It took me a while to configure all the settings for HD with the 2:3:3:3 pulldown, but now I'm just plain confused. Anyone know a solution?

I shot in HD in the 24F mode on a Canon XH A1. I've been capturing fine, but now the camera is not recognized ever since I created a new project with different settings.I created those project settings thinking they would only apply to that project (an SD one), and now I cannot figure out the steps to get back to where I was. This is what I wrote down to for my "In System Settings" that worked:
    Video Quality: Dynamic
    Frame Rate: Full
    Pulldown Pattern: 2:3:3:2
    Frame Offset: 4
    Record (Full Quality).
    Easy Setup - HDV-1080i60
Then I set my compressor for HDV 1080p24.
Now this simply doesn't work and I cannot capture.
Is there a way to revert back to my old settings before I created a different project?
Very confused why I cannot recognize my camera.

  • Cannot capture with Premiere CS6 with canon XA20

Just recently purchased canon XA20 and tried to capture form this device, but states device is offline.  I recorded media AVCHD, , recording mode 18MPS LPCM (59.94P).  In premier put device type canon.  of course the XA20 is not  listed for Device type not sure what to put.  I just used standard and it does not recognize camera.     Anny help in setting I would appreciate it.

    Hi Dakota,
You cannot capture AVCHD files. You copy the card to the media drive and then ingest them via the Media Browser in Premiere Pro. Hope that helps.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

  • I have a 2008 black macbook and access UK tv through a purchased proxy site. I want to buy a sony bravia internet connected tv to watch the channels in more comfort. Sony tell me this won't work - that the tv cannot capture my macbook content. Any advice?

I have a 2008 black MacBook and acess UK tv through a puchased proxy. I want to purchase a Sony Bravia internet connected tv and stream the site through a tv - Sony tell me this won't work - that a latest model tv cannot capture content and sites from a MacBook - is this true???? Surely there is a solution? Any help or advice welcome.

They are correct.  The only stream you can wireless connect the TV to a Mac is through an AppleTV, and that's purchased content on iTunes, and your own homemade content that is H.264 MPEG-4 that is 1800kbps.   Conversion of commercial video to that format is illegal, and hence how can not be stated on the forum.    Alternatively, as long as the TV is HDMI, you can wired connect it to your MacBook using the same advice here:

  • This content cannot be displayed in a frame

    Hi all
    i use Jdev12c, windows8.1
I generate task form from human tasks and deploy them on application server.in my workspace i initiate a process in popup form and then save or submit it.then i see it in my task list after i click on task , it should show detail in below frame but doesn't show anything.
I try all browsers just IE11 said "This content cannot be displayed in a frame" and show me a link that open my task in new tab.
by the way, i can see my task detail in app server correctly but when i use my local pc by typing server ip:portNum/bpm/workspace as URL it doesn't work.
also, when i use webform as UI instead of ADF forms it works correctly.
you can see server log as below:(it concern me about security issue)
<oracle.bpel.services.common.ServicesLogger> <ServicesLogger> <__log> <<.> WorkflowService.getWorkFlowContext() - The application with context path: /workflow/Project3 is unsecured. It is strongly recommended to secure task details applications. >

this seems to be DNS issue. In PS6 you could login EM and in your deployed processes click your process (left pane) and scroll down to Component Metrics and open you HT. Check the host name whether it is written with a domain name or IP. It could be a localhost there.

i am planing to buy license of premier pro.I wan to capture picture from my camera .which card  i want to install ??

If you're asking about Live Capture, where you record the camera feed direct to hard disk, then you need a Firewire interface or one of the (few) supported HDMI/SDI cards such as the AJA Kona, Matrox MX02 or BlackMagic Intensity Pro - however those have very specific motherboard requirements so you need to research them carefully before buying anything.
For an intro to Live Capture I suggest you read the manual: Adobe Premiere Pro Help | Capturing and digitizing footage

  • Content cannot be displayed in a frame

    Hi there,
I need your help as this is the first time I have run a server and Apple Care seems to be stumped by the issue. I am a complete novice at this.
I decided to set up my own server to host email and my website. I have two domaine names: jeffhargrove.com and jeffhargrove.net.
I set up the server for email and webservices for jeffhargrove.com. Then to test if everything was working, I first changed the dns of my .net domain to point to my server. I specified that jeffhargrove.net and www.jeffhargrove.net were alias of jeffhargrove.com.
Under this configuration, email and the site www.jeffhargrove.net worked fine. I changed some text in one of the html files on my server to make sure that the site was loading off my server. It was.
As everything was working, I then pointed jeffhargrove.com domain to my server. Email works fine and any mail that is addressed to jeffhargrove.net arrives in my jeffhargrove.com inbox. Mail alias seems to be working.
www.jeffhargrove.com works fine, but www.jeffhargrove.net works partially. Pages load until there is a reference to "http://wwww.jeffhargrove.com/portfolios/.…html" This reference appears because iWeb uses an iFrame to load a slideshow that I created for my site. In Safari, the frame just does not load and there is an empty space where the slide show should be. In Firefox, it returns the message:
This content cannot be displayed in a frame
To protect your security, the publisher of this content does not allow it to be displayed in a frame.
Apple Care did not know of any setting on the server that would prevent this from happening. The rep did not know about Apache modules which he said might be able to enable loading content in frames. I checked out the different modules available and cannot seem to find one that might resolve the issue. The rep did have me check all the permissions on all my web files and they seem correct.
Would you happen to have any idea what might be causing this issue. My site was hosted on a commercial server service with the same files and same alias and worked fine. This leads me to believe that there is a setting on mac os x server that is preventing content in frames to be displayed.
Thanks for any help you might offer!
    Jeff

Apple Care called me back and gave me a solution to the problem after the tech researched a bit.
New server software (from what version I do not know) changed the default display option of content in frames. By default it is blocked. There is no option to change this in the UI. The change has to done in an Apache config file. Here are the steps:
First stop your web service in Server Admin from your admin account, then:
    1. Log into your server as root.
2.In the finder, pull down the "go" menu and select "go to folder.."
    3.Type "/etc"
    4. Look for a folder called "apache2" and open it.
    5. duplicate a file called "httpdteamsrequired.conf" by renaming it or moving it to the desktop
    6. Open the file in TextEdit
    7. Find the string "x-frame-options"
    8. It will be located in a three line paragraph which begins with "<IfModule…." and ends with "</IfModule"
9.Place a pound sign (#) at the beginning of each of the three lines.
    10. Save
    11 logout of root
12 login into your admin account and restart web services in server admin
    Problem should be fixed.

  • Dialog box throws error "This content cannot be displayed in a frame"

I have disconnected a SP2010 db and re-connected to a new SP2013 farm. The visual upgrade is not yet done and decided to continue with sp2010 UI for now. In SP2013, I get the following error when I click "Add new item" in a list and "New
user" in a SP Group. Any dialog simply throws error.
This content cannot be displayed in a frame.
To help protect the security of information you enter into this website, the publisher of this content does not allow it to be displayed in a frame.
    I have also added "<WebPartPages:AllowFraming runat="server" />" and  <meta http-equiv="X-Frame-Options" content="allow">
to the master page but no luck.
    Your assistance wil be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi,
This error is generally specific to Internet Explorer and has two possible causes. The most likely explanation is that your browser has unusual browser security settings. I would recommend you try
resetting your security settings to defaults (varies by version but all essentially the same). You may also have to turn off
Protected Mode which is enabled by default on some systems. If you’re seeing this error (or a version of it) outside Internet Explorer, you may have a server-level setting that is preventing your content from being framed.

  • Quicktime Player-Cannot Capture

Had no problem with Quicktime new screen recordings until the last couple of days.  It starts to record fine and then about 50 mins to 1 hour 30 mins it comes up with a box saying "Cannot Capture" and just stops recording!!  Anybody have this problem?  I have Mountain Lion.  Thanks.

I'm capturing the whole screen and using the internal microphone for sound.
I keep checking but still have the same problem.
I noticed that there was a recent security update 2013-003 which had an effect on Quicktime, I wonder if this is causing the problem? Can anybody shed any light on this?
I have attached an image below of what pops up when it just stops recording.
