Cannot change graphics card/Old preference pane

Just received my new Macbook Pro 2.53. Loaded up just great was able to use all the features, but after transferring all of my old data via ethernet I cannot change the graphics card mode! I no longer have the option to. I have the OLD 'Energy Saver' preference pane! I do not even have the larger graphics card under the system profiler.
Any ideas?
Running build 10.5.5 9F2114

After a lengthy call with a rep at applecare, checking this, sending that. He had me remove the battery, unplug the wall outlet and hold the power button for 7 seconds. Popped the battery back in, plugged in the AC and it's back!
It wasn't so much I had an "old energy saver" pane, but rather the new one wasn't recognizing the 2nd video card.

  • Cannot change graphics card

I thought I had this fixed:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1755849&tstart=0
But now after this happening again, I cannot get the same results after repeating the same steps. Basically the section in the energy saver panel that dictates which card to use-- is missing and I'm stuck on the 9400M. The other card does not even show up in system profiler.

I had this problem too, after migrating from a hackintosh time machine backup. Also, I interrupted the out-of-the-box setup process, and when I resumed the set up various things were glitchy, got trapped in the wireless setup phase, had to force restart.
The symptom was that in the energy saver pane of system preferences, it didn't list the graphics options, and some text saying "this will require log out" or something like that was splayed over a couple of buttons, all glitchy-like.
Anyway, I did a clean install of OSX and all's well so far with the graphics card options now appearing in my energy saver control panel -- it's been a day. Haven't migrated again, probably won't. If it reappears I'll post back.

  • Changing Graphics Card Settings

    Hi there
I have a 24 inch iMac and when I run Maya (the 3d software) the timeline does not show up at the bottom of the screen.
It works fine on my old G4 so what is the problem here?
I figure I need to change graphics card options somewhere but have no idea where to find them.
    Please help!
    THANKS

I use maya alot, the timeline will be nothing to do with your graphics, if it was the nothing would show up, just hold space to bring up your hotbox go to display / UI elements and make sure time slider is ticked on, if all else fails just trash your prefences and relaunch maya, im going to presume your not a professional maya user? just assuming since your using a iMac for it which isn't the best chose, also what version of maya do you have? learning edition, 7, 8 or older?

  • Changed graphics cards, now doesn't detect monitors

*I changed graphics cards on a Mac Pro and now its not detecting the monitors despite booting OSX10.5!*
    Mac Pro
    2 Monitors
Replacing radeon card with a geforce 7300gt
    Unplugged everything
    replaced card
Plugged everything back in, power last.
    Powered on
Monitors are blank (cannot detect signal, autocycling between analog/dvi searching for one)
I've tried plugging just one monitor in and just a mouse/keyboard.
    I've tried reseating the card.
I've tried plugging the card into 16x slot #2.
*Whats so infuriating about this is the computer actual BOOTS!* The keyboard dvd eject button responds, and I can explore the contents of this Mac Pros hard drive through the local network.
    Any ideas?
What am I doing wrong! ><

What is the video card you are installing? Is this an ATI 3870? If so did you read the installation instructions before installing? You were to install the software drivers before installing the card.
Also check that you got the Mac version of this card.

  • LR screwed up after changing graphics card?

After successfully working with LR since version 4 over a long period with thousands of photos I now have a strange problem which I can´t find a solution for on my own.
    What´s wrong?
-LR doesn´t show any images, neither thumbnails in import mode nor full images or thumbnails in development view
-There is only a grey area where the photo should be.
-Old photos or newly imported pics all have the same problem.
-switching between files causes loading progress with plausible duration, but the image does not appear
-Histogramm, Metadata etc. are shown correctly, but no image nowhere
-Photoshop/Camera RAW on the same computer with the very same files work without any problem
What did I try to fix it?
-renamed the catalog file and created a new one. No luck. Same effect while importing and after that in the development view only grey again...
    -renamed the previews, no luck
-renamed the agprefs file to start with fresh settings which seemed to work because I had to set the user language and so on. But - no impact on the problem.
-searched the faq and several boards, discussions, Google. No answer. Only one user with the same problem, he also got no answer...
What I may have done to get into that kind of trouble:
-I changed my graphics card some time ago. I had a NVIDIA 9800 GT before and changed it to a NVIDIA 640GT.
-I took every OS update, NVIDIA driver update and Adobe CC/LR Update and did not use LR after a couple of such changes.
    Some facts about my system:
    -Win8, Core i7 920, 6GB RAM, SSD/HD with enough space
    -LR 5.3 latest update
    Please help. Thanks in advance.

I would first suspect the video driver.  Video drivers can cause weird problems, sometimes affecting only one program.
Things I would do, many of which you may well already have done:
First off, set a system restore point, so you can recover what you do.
Check the video driver, and make sure it's the right one.
Try earlier versions of the driver.  The NVIDIA 640GT is not new, and may work better on older drivers.  My GTX 550 doesn't like the current drivers, and is significantly faster with earlier ones.  You can also go into Device Manager and roll back the driver to previous versions.  I don't update video drivers unless there's a reason: to fix a problem, say. New NVIDIA drivers are usually only to support new hardware.
Try removing the driver (in Device Manager, use Uninstall for the video card).  That makes Windows default to a basic VGA driver, and then get Windows to update the driver (in device manager, update driver).  That will get what Microsoft reckon is the latest driver, which is not generally what NVIDIA think is latest, but may be more stable.
If you've still got the old card, try that (just to check whether it is a video card issue).
    Uninstall and reinstall LR.
I know that's the obvious stuff, which you've probably done.
PS - as ssprengel says, check the monitor profile. Definitely the first thing to do!

  • Loss of visual display wen changing graphics card

I want to change my graphic card on my dual 500 G4 (currently running on 10.4.11), however I am concerned that once the old card is out I will loose all visual display and therefore will not be abe to follow on-screen instructions when installing the new Driver. Is this a real problem? if so, how do I carry out this procedure?

I have installed cards whose instructions called for installing the new drivers before installing the new card. If your new card falls into that category, no problem.
If drivers need to be installed AFTER the new card is in place, I don't think there will be a problem either. OSX has pre-installed drivers for most cards already; they aren;t the newest but are usually functional. Even without drivers, most cards allow the pass-through of 2D video. Example: new drivers no longer provide graphics acceleration under OS9 any more, but the computer has usable 2D video in OS9. I think you will have no trouble with on-screen assistance.
For what its worth, this is the forum for the very late PowerMac G4s, the "Mirrored Drive Doors" model and the FireWire800. The older G4s get a separate forum here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=113
You can get help either place, though. The forum software doesn't make it obvious that the other forum is for the early models,

  • Where is the option where you can change graphics cards?

I got a new Macbook pro yesterday for $1,499.
Well I wanted to switch the graphics card so I went into System Preferences>Energy Saver.
The thing is, I thought it was in the Energy Saver option, but there is nothing about the Graphics cards.
How can I change the graphics card for my Macbook Pro?

If your MacBook Pro is one of the models with a dual graphics card, the option to switch between them is at the top of the Energy Saver window: Graphics: • Better battery life, or • Higher performance. The MacBook Pro models with dual graphics cards are: 15" (2.66 and 2.8 GHz) and 17" (2.8 GHz). The 13" and 15" (2.53 GHz) MacBook Pro models have a single graphics card - for these models you will not see the Graphics option in the Energy Saver window. Which model do you have?

  • Change graphics Card macbook pro, is it possible?

Hey, Im just wondering if it's possible to upgrade the graphics card on a macbook Pro, late 2011 model. if so, what's the price?

No, any attempt to remove or change components on the logic board will void the warranty...because Apple and authorized apple service centers will not attempt to do that.

  • Cannot update graphics card BIOS, MSI Live upate 6 will not work.

Live update 6 does not support "MSI Radeon R9 280x Gaming 6G" graphics card.
Live update 6 does not run.
Even tried mass loading Live update 6 to the point it had 800+ "Live Update.exe 32*" processors running in task manager and they soon disappeared 20 seconds later.
    No UI.
    No Error message.
If the program is not running it is clear it does not support any of the hardware in my system including "MSI Radeon R9 280x Gaming 6G".
As a result I cannot update to latest BIOS for my graphics card.
Operating system: Windows 7 64bit (last update 05/09/2014 6 days ago)
    CPU: AMD A8-6600k APU @ 4.60GHz
RAM: 8GB Dual channel Crucial Ballistix Tactical Tracer DDR3 1866MHz CL9
    Motherboard: Asrock FM2A88M Extreme4+
    GPU: MSI Radeon R9 280x Gaming 6G
    GPU details:
Am I required to have an MSI motherboard to be eligible for a graphics card BIOS update?
The reason why I seek this is because the entire line of R9 200 series graphics cards are plagued with screen flickering due to ULPS. BIOS updates for other vendors of the card; "Gigabyte", "Asus" etc have been reported to fix the monitor flicking ULPS causes however since I have an MSI GFX card I cannot use Gigabyte and Asus BIOS updates.
I no longer have the flickering issue due disabling ULPS and overclocking the graphics card however it's causing the card to operate at a constant 48 degrees and chew power.
With the overclock values and stress testing it with Unigine Heaven Benchmark 4.0 (extreme preset) the card reaches a max of 74 degrees over the course of stress testing for 4 hours.
But I would like to be able to have my card at factory clock settings with ULPS without the flickering and I'm wanting to see if the staff at MSI are fully aware of the bug in their product line and if the latest BIOS version for the graphics card would fix the issue.

No but live update is flakey at best and i wouldn't trust it.... (seen far to many problems with it)
if you want a Updated VBIOS if one is available please supply these 2 things and then one of the other mods will be able to get you what is needed!
1: Serial number of your card (leave off the last 3 digits and then there is no unique information about your card as the rest is all just manufacture data to all the cards from that batch)
2: click the little icon to the side of your BIOS version number and save a copy of the VBIOS to a file and uplaod it to somewhere and give us a link to the file... (use somewhere like Dropbox)
once we have those 2 pieces of information someone here will be able to get one if Available for your card

  • MSI P7N SLI - PC Wont Boot - Video error code but changing graphics card no help

((Apologies, I think this should be in the forum for Intel Core 2 Duo/Quad boards))
Hi. Brief description of the issue.
Last Saturday there was fan noise. I ignored that, left the machine on, went out. By Sunday morning the machine had turned itself off. I opened it up, identified the problem as the graphics card fan, failed to fix but put the PC back on figuring I'd have to see about a new card soonish.
Later on it had turned itself off again. Got to bios with a system32 config error. I figured that was why it'd been shutting off and went through the long process of manual recovery from that. Turned the computer on, all good, played games.
Until I thought to check the GFX temp... 133 degrees Celcius. Turned it off right away, ordered replacement card - which has now arrived.
But the machine won't boot at all. I get one long tone then two short. This is the same with both the old and the new cards. Blue light comes on, all the fans come on, then the beeps.
But the 'long' isn't long like if it was a RAM issue. I'm googling AMI bios post codes and seeing 1 long + 2 short is a video error, but also that '3 beeps' is a memory problem.
I've swapped my RAM sticks around and tried each stick individually and get the same beep code.
I've reset the CMOS by holding in the button on the back for 5 seconds, with the power cable unplugged and after discharging the capacitors.
The only other suggestions I've found is that it could be a failure of the PSU to power the card. But it should be giving ample power.
Now I am stuck for ideas.
    MSI P7N SLI, MS-7380
    Intel Q6600
    Antec Neopower Blue Modular PSU
    Zotac 8800GT [OR Asus GTX 260 212]
    OCZ Platinum 2GB (2*1) DDR2 800
    Western Digital HDD
    LiteOn DVD Rom
    Windows XP

With a 94000GT (no power connector from PSU) the machine is now running.
But there's still a problem somewhere (and that's a pretty poor graphics card I don't want to be stuck with) so I'm still keen to find out what to do, or what's wrong.
My 650W Antec with 2 12 volt rails should have no issues powering the other cards.

  • Change graphic card

    Hello everybody,
    I have an Intel-based iMac.
    Processor : Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E8335 @ 2.93 GHz 2.93 GHz
    RAM : 4.00 Go
Graphic Card : NVIDIA GeForce GT 120
I'd like to know if it's possible to change my graphic card ? Which ones are compatible ? It's especially to play video game in a better resolution.
    Thanks !

I'd like to know if it's possible to change my graphic card ?
The only user upgradeable part in an iMac is the RAM, some iMac's can have the HD replaced by end users and no iMacs can have either the graphics card or CPU upgraded.
