Cannot change icon on DVD/CD

Hi all,
I an older G5 Mac, and I cannot change the icon for DVD/CDs that I want to burn. I am using 10.4.5 and when I go to get info on the blank disc, I cannot paste an icon in. I could do this no problems when the machine was running 10.3.9
I have a Quad 2.5 G5 as well and have no problems doing this.
I have tried repairing disk permissions and still cannot do it.
Any ideas?
Thanks

There have been major changes in Finder disk burning in Tiger. It now uses burn folders instead of hidden disk images. The CD icon that appears on the desktop when you insert a blank CD represents the burn folder not the CD and does not behave like a normal disk.

  • CANNOT change Icons in the dock or other places like I used to in 10.5.8

I found a nice set of icons that I would like to set to my MBP that I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard. So far I really haven't had any real problems that I wasn't able to work through except for this one. I've even opened up the "Info" box and changed the sharing and the permissions and changed them so that as an administrator I could change the icon but no luck! On my G5 tower I have no problem at all using the standard procedure but when I apply it to my laptop it just doesn't want to work. I'd appreciate any suggestions.
    Thanks

I've been playing around with that problem for a bit now: Apple changed it with Leopard and Snow Leopard and it's not as easy as it was with Tiger... but I found a way around it:
When you control click on any of your folders (to the right of the System Prefs icon), you need to have the following checked:
    Sort by: Name
    Display as: Folder
    View content as: List
Having changed icons dozens of times, I found that any other setting will keep your pretty icon within a Finder window, but as soon as move it to the Dock, it'll revert to the stock view.
So, once you choose above settings, go ahead and change an icon on one of your folders and then drag it into the dock. It should work - mine have been there for 2 weeks now.

  • Cannot change icon UI property on node in hGrid's tree

    Hi,
I created region of style hGrid (ID HGridRN).
Under HGridRN I created region of style tree (ID TreeRN).
Under TreeRN I have members and I want to set some dynamic property for nodeDef2 member.
    HGridRN
    __TreeRN
    ____members
    ______nodeDef1
    ______childNode1
________nodeDef2 <- I want dynamic icon on this node
    ________childNode2
I try to use next sequence of statements:
    OAHGridBean hGridBean = (OAHGridBean)webBean.findIndexedChildRecursive("HGridRN");
    OAWebBean treeBean = hGridBean.findChildRecursive("TreeRN");
    *if (treeBean != null) {*
    *..OATreeDefinitionBean nodeDef2 = (OATreeDefinitionBean)treeBean.findChildRecursive("nodeDef2");*
    *..nodeDef2.setAttributeValue(ICON_ATTR, new OADataBoundValueViewObject(nodeDef2, "NodeIconAttr", "ComplectVO1"));*
Setting ICON_ATTR attribute doesn't change the icon in hgrid.
If fact I can even write nodeDef2.setRendered(false); but the node still exists in UI.
How to get reference to nodeDef2?

    Hi,
It looks like, that yout context node V_HOME.1 has no elements ( = no data ), try to fill your context node by some data ( by supply method for example). Or you can try change cardinality of your V_HOME.1 node to 1..n.

  • Cannot change Icon for dashboard?

Greetings, I have done some research, and I can change all of the other Icons in the the dock except the dashboard icon. I can change it in the applications folder, but I can't drag it into the dock. When I try to do this it uses only the original icon every time. Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks.

    powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

    Grant,
I'm sorry it didn't work, I have a few more suggestions though:
    Restart (Worth a try)
Delete the "com.apple.dashboard.client.plist" and "com.apple.dashboard.plist" files from the preferences folder within your user's library.
Re-launch the dock (Sorry but I don't know how to do this. I know it can be done but can't remember how)
That's all I can think of though. Apart from using a program such as Candybar. This may/may-not interest you?
"The dashboard doesn't even appear in the force quit menu?"
I think that this is because it is a part of the dock/finder.

  • Cannot change Icon

I have a MacBook Pro w/ Leopard 10.5.4 using boot camp and running Vista on a second partition on a single drive. I was able to change the icon of my hard drive on the Mac side but I'm unable to rename or change the Vista hard drive icon which resides on the desktop with the Leopard drive icon. Is this something that I'm going to have to live with or is there a way to change the Vista drive icon to reflect what it really is?
    Thanks

    Glad I could help!
    Thanks for the !
Well I tried your suggestion and renamed it in Windows and voila the name changed to what I named it. Thank you for the solution to 1/2 my problem. I will now chase down the link you gave me to change the icon.
    Ron
You don't need any links to change the icon.
Just follow the steps in my reply here.
    Good luck!

  • I cannot change any user account icons

I cannot change any user account icons. Under the Default icons it says "No Items". Any new users are set up with a tennis ball with no other options. In the initial set up, there were a lot of choices. Now they're gone. It there a missing file?

Yes the missing user icons is unexplained and nothing I've tried has resolved it.
It seems to have occurred as part of the 10.8.2 update for me.
No user shows any of the default or custom user icons available in the users system preference. All the Apple icons are present in the /Library/User Icons folder as well as custom icons but they do not appear within the system's panel period. No icons appear there. You are able to add icons to it -per user. Any done in this manner are saved in that user's preferences so this does not affect the system level. I have tried removing preferences. I have tried removing the icons and adding them back including as root but all changes are applied to the user only. I have run Diskwarrior, repaired permissions, etc. And nothing changes this.
I cloned the image to another laptop, deleted all preferences from main library, restarted, logged in expecting it to be a preference issue. Still no user pictures shown for default user. In case the original users were corrupt, I created a new user and logged in with it. It was given one of the OSX pictures randomly chosen by the system. I logged in as user and still no pictures are shown. Tried to do a reinstall of 10.8.2 combo update and system refuses saying I cannot be done. Booted from recovery partition and it  allowed an internet recovery.
No change. Took a brand new laptop and used user migration to copy the users over to it with all settings. Broke that system as well. Repeated creating new users, etc and no change. This is really annoying. I can repeat migrating users only and then partial settings to try to narrow it down but its time consuming.

  • Change icon sizes on ipad

How can I change the size and spacing of desktop icons on the iPad Retina Display?

You can't. You cannot customize icon sizes like you can on a computer. You can use Zoom on Settings>General>Accessiblity>Zoom>On in order to enlarge everything on the screen, but that's probably not what you have in mind.

  • Cannot change caption in offline previews

I want to change the caption in several images.
I CAN CHANGE the captions for those images that reside on my disk.
I CAN CHANGE the captions of preview images for images I have on CDs.
I CANNOT CHANGE the captions of preview images for images I have on CDs when the caption was initially generated in PSE 6.
I CAN CHANGE all other fields of preview images for images I have on CDs when the caption was initially generated in PSE 6.
I am on Windows XP.  The images that I am trying to change are jpegs.
I searched through the forums and have found that people are/were having problems changing this field, but none of those problems seem to be exactly the same as the problems I am having.
So, how do I change this field?  I still have 28 days in the trial period to decide if I want to pay for Lightroom or just stick with PSE 6.  There seem to be a lot of bugs in Lightroom.  Is there a list of bugs anywhere?  Is my problem on that list?
    Ray

Frankly, I doubt if it is something people would expect to do.  If you had save metadata to file automatically set what would you expect to happen?
That said, I would also encourage you to not rely on CDs or DVDs, which have been shown to be pretty unreliable.  Disks are extremely cheap now and makes life much easier.  I keep originals and two backups and am trying to figure out where to keep the second backup out of my house but easy to access.  I tried offline via the internet but have concluded this is not a good solution.

    Hi Zenos,
    thanks for responding so quickly.
What I mean is I still do see the "Change Color Icon" on the work bar. - the 2 square little blocs -. When I click on either of them the "colorpanel" to chose a color from appears like it should.
But after selecting a color and clicking on "OK" nothing happens with the selected text nor with background of the email
I have re installed a much older version of Thunderbird. The problem remained the same........?
I deleted this older version and re installed the latest TB version 31.3.0. . The problem is there again....?
Made me think that perhaps the origin of this problem might not be Thunderbird but another program or malware.
I ran my anti virus and Malwarebites: nothing abnormal was detected...........?
Note. at almost the same time my Firefox 34.0.5 browser also developped a problem. It does not load my chosen Startpage (Google.com) anymore but loads Google.es ( es = Spain/Europe, where I live)

  • Big Permissions Problem: "You Cannot Change The Contents Of This Folder"

I installed Tiger some time ago (and need to upgrade now from 10.4.6 to 10.4.9).
I haven't used it much since some of my software will only run under Panther.
In any case, I'm using it now and have been having big permissions/user accounts problems.
I have two users on the computer "robert" and "ra", both with admin privileges (I set up two because I was trying to get around these problems -- I'd be very happy with just one).
I have 10.4.6 installed on an external HD and boot from that into Tiger (I have Tiger on another external HD as a backup, and my main HD in the iMac has 10.3.9 -- that's what I boot from when I need to run older programs).
In any case, both "robert" and "ra" have ADMIN privileges. But I get weird ownership problems. For instance, if I am logged in as "ra" and try to play a Realplayer file streaming from the web (in Firefox 1.x), I get the error
/Users/robert/Desktop/307e6wz7 could not be saved, because you cannot change the contents of that folder.
I check the ownership of the "Desktop" folder -- read/write for "ra".
If I right-click I can save the Realplayer file to the desktop.
    Same with other links.
I've also noticed other ownership problems (blocked folders at finder level) but can't duplicate tonight. Is this an obscure error, or is there something amiss in ownership recognition? Is there some way I can sort all out? Login in as "root" and set all right?
    Thanks
    G4 iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Yes they do. When you installed them you dragged these particular apps to the Applications folder. Doing so automatically attributes the program with the ownership attributes of the account owner who installed them - 'robert.'
Proper application installers install apps under the system/admin ownership. You can try to fix these apps by changing their permissions:
Select the app and CTRL-click to open the contextual menu. Choose Show Package Contents from the contextual menu. Select the Contents folder and press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window. In the Ownership and Permissions section click on the tiny arrow icon to expose the panel. Click on the little lock icon to authenticate. Change permissions as follows:
Owner = system with Read/Write privileges
Group = admin with Read/Write privileges
    Other with Read-Only privileges
Click on the Apply To Enclosed Items button. Close the lock by clicking again on the lock icon.

  • Cannot show icon images

I just try to upgrade my 6i application to 10g web base. I sucess to run my application on browser. However, I cannot show icons image. I have followed the doc "Forms9iAS Forms Services How to deploy Icons", but still failed.
Is there any doc teach me how to deploy icons in Forms Services 10g? (not 9i)
or any hints can tell me?
    Thanks a lot !!!

    Hello,
    1) if you choose to have icons as gif, use the following in a batch file:
    rem====
jar cvfm iconeweb.jar *.gif --- name the file: jar_icons.bat
    rem=====
put the icons images in a directory together with jar_icons.bat
    2) run jar_icons.bat
you should see a new file in the directory: iconeweb.jar
copy that jar file in the directory /forms/java of your developer install directory.
    3) open the formsweb.cfg which you can find in /forms/server in the directory where you installed developer 10g
Look for the line that has: archive_jini
Add the following: at the end of this line: ,iconeweb.jar
    save formsweb.cfg
if you are running your app from a named config, you should also make the change to that section too.
    4) restart your browser that the new jar is downloaded.
    5) open your java console: it is the small coffee icon you see in the systray. In it, you see a line with iconeweb, If you don't see it, it means the jar file is not found. Then, you should make sure that the forms/java path is indeed in the forms_path registry key .

  • Changing Icon Size

Desktop icons are smaller than I prefer. I am sure that back in Panther I could use a slider to change icon size, change snap to grid options but cannot remember where it was. Does Leopard have user adjustable options for desktop icons?

Yes it does. You can control click on the Desktop and from the Contextual Menu select "Show View Options." There is a slider for both icon size and, new to Leopard, one for Grid Spacing as well. The option for Snap to Grid is in the "Arrange by" drop down menu. Don't get TOO carried away with the Grid Size slider, or you will start getting the names of things truncated. Another new thing in Leopard is that you can put your items anywhere you want them (with Snap to Grid turned off) and they will stay where you put them, and this includes the drive icons. Love that!
